Hi Everyone,

Today we released Google Earth 7 for Desktop. This new build comes with complete, immersive 3D maps of select metro areas and preloaded tours and placemarks that allow you to fly throughout landmarks around the world.

If you have any feedback, respond to this thread. In your post, please include:
  • Your Earth version number and OS and (Ex. I’m running Google Earth 7.0.1.8244 on Ubuntu 12.10).
  • Your graphics card and driver information.
  • Also, indicate whether or not you can consistently repeat the behavior you experience. This will make it much easier to reproduce your experience and know exactly what you’re talking about.

Even if we can’t respond to every post, we’ll absolutely be listening.

Thanks,
Daniel

Version: Google Earth 7.0.1.8244-r0
OS: Ubuntu 12.04.
Graphics card: Integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000
Driver: i915 driver.

Description: Google Earth crashes immediately upon opening. The Google Earth splash screen shows up, but then closes without any notification that the app had crashed. I didn't have any issues opening Google Earth 6 on the same setup. Rebooting my computer did not solve the problem.

I have attached a crashlog.

After upgrading Google Earth starts but I only see a transparent globe. This is only stars and some borders and markers but no map data. Ho can I fix this?
I remeber changing something in the installation of version 6 to get fonts fixed but can't remember exactly what that was. Re-installing the package after a purge did not help either.

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Klaus Krtschil 11/1/12 7:52 AM
I installed a GL lib (see http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Google_Earth) and copied the libGL lib to /opt/google/earth/free. Now Google Earth starts but the earth appears to be transparent (no maps can be seen). So unusable again

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Simon X 11/1/12 10:07 AM
My system: Ubuntu 12.04, Intel Pentium M processor 1.86GHz
Google Earth Version 7.0.1.8244, installed 32bit .deb package from earth.google.com

and here's the problem:
  • (Screenshot 1) Application starts succesfully, but doesn't show any satellite images (only country's frontiers)
  • (Screenshot 2) When zooming in, the background turns grey.
  • (Screenshot 3) 3D-buildings are visible

I think my problem is similar to Klaus' problem (Link)

Bugfix please!

Google Earth 7.0.1.8244 (beta)
Build Date 10/29/2012

Renderer OpenGL
Operating System Linux (3.0.0.0) (Linux warbird 3.0.0-26-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 25 17:19:22 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux)

Starts fine but graphical performance is noticeably worse than previous version with noticeable "tearing" and stuttering when rotating the globe or panning an area quickly. Some "jiggling" of latitude and longitude labels when moving the mouse over a static area.
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux smyl 11/3/12 9:01 AM
Hi,

On an updated Fedora 17 64-bit system, I tried to install Google Earth from the rpm but it keeps crashing with signal 11.

Method:

# yum localinstall google-earth-stable_current_x86_64.rpm

Yum also installed (dependencies):

redhat-lsb-submod-multimedia-4.1-5.fc17.x86_64
qt3-3.3.8b-41.fc17.x86_64
perl-Pod-Plainer-1.03-1.fc17.noarch

GE complains about a bad ELF interpreter:

$ google-earth
/usr/bin/google-earth: ./googleearth-bin: /lib/ld-lsb.so.3: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory

Resolved by (not really a 64-bit application ..):

# yum install redhat-lsb.i686

Yum also installed (dependencies):

redhat-lsb-submod-security-4.1-5.fc17.i686
redhat-lsb-submod-multimedia-4.1-5.fc17.i686

redhat-lsb-cxx-4.1-5.fc17.i686
redhat-lsb-desktop-4.1-5.fc17.i686

But now it just crashes (silently, if launched from Applications/Internet desktop menu; with error message "Google Earth has caught signal 11. [...]", if launched from command line):

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Zimmer 11/4/12 1:38 PM
GDB shows that /usr/lib/libexpat.so.1 crashes trying to parse an XML file.
Searching with Google I have discovered that the file is /etc/fonts/conf.d/65-fonts-persian.conf (a symbolic link to /etc/fonts/conf.avail/65-fonts-persian.conf).
Removing that symbolic link, GoogleEarth 7 starts correctly ... but ...

It is very slow.
It crashes on exit.
Panoramio photos are displayed but, clicking on them, nothing happens.
Missing a lot of features available in the Windows version.
The "coordinates bug" has come back for non US/EN users (GE displays the wrong location).

In short, as usual, GE for Linux is pure garbage!

To solve the coordinates bug:
edit (as root) the script /opt/google/earth/free/googleearth
before the line LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH ./googleearth-bin "$@" add

export LC_NUMERIC=en_US.UTF-8

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux rafaelfri 11/5/12 7:47 AM
Hi,
I upgraded to GE7 this morning (uninstalled 6 and than installed 7) on my Ubuntu 12.10 and it is crashing.
I am running Ubuntu on a Dell Latitude laptop - can tell the exact model but is if fairly new - about 1 year old with Intel Corei5 CPU.
Graphics card is showed in Ubuntu as a generic Intel.

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Richard B. Kreckel 11/6/12 1:06 AM
With version 7.0.1.8244-r0 on a Debian wheezy (amd64) system with an NVidia GT216 [Quadro FX 880M] textures are not displayed: the globe stays black. This happens both with the Nouveau driver and with NVidia's closed-source driver (version 304.48). A fix would be appreciated.
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Zimmer 11/6/12 5:56 AM
As I have written before, it seems that (at least, on openSUSE 12.2 64 bit) GE 7 crashes because of /usr/lib/libexpat.so.1
In turn, /usr/lib/libexpat.so.1 crashes trying to parse an XML file.

Searching with Google I have discovered that the file is /etc/fonts/conf.d/65-fonts-
persian.conf (a symbolic link to /etc/fonts/conf.avail/65-fonts-persian.conf).
Removing that symbolic link, GoogleEarth 7 starts correctly.

Keep in mind that the "coordinates bug" has come back for non US/EN users (GE displays the wrong location).
To solve that bug:

edit (as root) the script /opt/google/earth/free/googleearth
before the line LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH ./googleearth-bin "$@" add

export LC_NUMERIC=en_US.UTF-8
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Klaus Krtschil 11/6/12 1:14 PM
I investigated further and found the following:

gdb googleearth-bin results in that crash message:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0xa71e9603 in glsl_symbol_table::get_entry(char const*) () from /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri/libglsl.so

My system uses /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1.2.

Any ideas?

On Ubuntu 12.10 (64-bit) with Unity (3D acceleration) on an AMD/ATI card, I get the crash a few seconds after the splash screen appears.

I sumbitted a bug for Fedora:

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Chris Howells 11/10/12 8:48 AM
I now seem to see the splash screen (I installed some Ubuntu updates, not sure if they changed things), here's a more useful backtrace:

Yes, I have the exactly same problem as you, just on a 64 bit system. There is still no fix, nor any official comment to this :-(. It's just a pitty.
Isn't there any kind of official bug reporting system available, where direct communication with Google about this problems can be handled properly?

There is the "Google Earth issue tracker", but again, not answered :-(

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Marko Kaligarič 11/19/12 5:03 AM
I have Ubuntu 12.04, amd64 installed on my machine.
After running the command ''google-earth'' in the terminal, the splash screen appear, but after that GE crashes immediately.

THIS IS THE OUTPUT FROM TERMINAL:
mark@Skyred:~$ google-earth
Google Earth has caught signal 11.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Google Earth has crashed.
This is a bug in the program, and should never happen under normal
circumstances. A bug report and debugging data have been written

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux taidoka 11/20/12 1:13 AM
Don't know if I use it right, but there was no other button ;)

GE doesn't work in my T61 running LM 13 64 Bit (Intel GMA X3000) with latest kernel (3.2.0-33-tp) & x-swat drivers.
No textures are visible. Though Streetview works fine. GE 7 does work on an Acer Aspire 5610 running LM 13 32 Bit (NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300) with latest kernel (3.2.0-32) & x-swat drivers. No rendering issue.
Version 6.2 appears to be running without these problems. You can download it from Patrick Wiens shared folder: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32779532/google-earth-stable_current_amd64.deb

Good luck

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux taidoka 11/20/12 7:13 AM
If GE doesn't even start, try this - in a terminal:

wget http://librarian.launchpad.net/7037027/libGL.so.1 -O libGL.so.1

sudo cp libGL.so.1 /opt/google/earth/free

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux gonzalo rivero 11/20/12 12:16 PM

I've tried with GE6.2 and it work just a little less worse than GE7... but still can't use it:

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux taidoka 11/20/12 12:28 PM
@gonzalo rivero
What grafik card do you have?
If it's Intel Integrated card then you can try updating your drivers
There's a ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
Include it via sudo add-apt-repository and update/upgrade your drivers.
Check also your /etc/X11/xorg.conf if it's avialable. Look here for more details: http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Grafikkarten/Intel (translate it if it's not your native language).

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux gonzalo rivero 11/20/12 12:51 PM

as I've said in my previous post, I have a  GeForce 210/PCIe/SSE2 with
NVIDIA 304.48 drivers on a amd64 debian testing.

By the way, google maps (mapsGL enabled) in iceweasel works fine (I don't know if it have something to do)
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Jonek 11/21/12 9:50 AM
Hi Dino,
thanks for the link to the issue tracker! The bug you are referring to is NOT the bug I am experiencing. You referred to a bug with a crash. My Google Earth is starting fine and not crashing. In my case satellite images are not drawn on the globe's surface but some other data like borders, roads, city names or image positions are drawn correctly.

I reported a new bug.
Please vote for it if you experience the same problems!

Thanks, Jonek.

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux William Graham 11/22/12 7:04 AM
After much fuddling I discovered that the following always works when Google Earth behaves as you describe on my Ubunto 12.10 nvidia system

Discover the location of libgoogle_free.so in /opt.  Trouble is, I have fould it as shown below, but also as /opt/googlearth or /opt/google-earth

sudo rm /usr/lib32/libgoogleearth_free.so 2>/dev/null

# The target below may have to be discovered and updated

sudo ln -s /opt/google/earth/free/libgoogleearth_free.so /usr/lib32/libgoogleearth_free.so

So far, as soon as something removes it during system updates, reestablishing the link has always corrected the bomb-outs to login.  Of course, the real cause would be sweet to know.  keepass2 and other programs (like emacs) that also quite start working again too.  Strange.
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux re_nelson 11/22/12 4:02 PM
I have an educated guess about what MAY be happening with the current Google Earth with timestamps of 29 OCT 2012. Like many, I faced the signal 11 and the report in the crashlog showing "libgoogleearth_free.so" in the stacktrace.

I fixed it by copying all of the "libQt*so.4" libraries from the older 6.2.2.6613 version into the "/opt/google/earth/free' directory. That fixed it for me. The platform is a 64-bit machine, ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P8Z77-V LX (Quad-Core Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2380P @ 3.10GHz) running Gentoo AMD64.

Here's what I surmise. The newer Qt libraries packaged with the recent Google Earth may have been built with the "-mavx" optimization flag. It's well documented that the AVX flag causes Firefox and Thunderbird to segfault on Sandy Bridge chipsets:

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-893300.html

Whether or not that conjecture is correct or not, using the previous release's Qt libraries allows the current Google Earth to run without fault.
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux taidoka 11/24/12 1:51 AM
@William Graham
@re_nelson

If I remove libGL.so.1 from /opt/google/earth/free/ then I can't start GE 7. I then receive an error-11-message.
I tried your suggestions but with no luck.
Running gdb I get almost the same report as Chris Howells on Nov, 10th.

On http://www.ubuntu-forum.de/artikel/52174/und-wieder-google-earth.html someone replaced
libgl1-mesa-glx with libgl1-mesa-swx11. That's because libGL.so.1 is part of that package. And maybe that's the crux of the matter.
But since libgl1-mesa-glx is a native package (LM 13 64 Bit) it would remove a lot of stuff. So I will leave it that way and waite for an updated version.

If I remove libGL.so.1 from /opt/google/earth/free/ then I can't start GE 7. I then receive an error-11-message.
I tried your suggestions but with no luck.

I've done further research on the matter  and will recalibrate my original suggestion to use the Qt libraries from a previous version of GE. On my system, that merely addressed the symptom and obscured the real problem. What I explain here is a case of "worked for me" and may not be universally applicable.

To cut to the chase, running strace as follows revealed exactly where the problem was in version 7, qualified as beta, released 10/29/2012:

1). export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.
2). cd /opt/google/earth/free
3). strace -o /tmp/result ./googleearth-bin

        open("/etc/fonts/conf.d/65-fonts-persian.conf", O_RDONLY) = 9
        read(9, "<?xml version=\"1.0\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE "..., 8192) = 8192
        time(NULL)                              = 1353701563
        read(9, "<family>Koodak</family>\n\t\t\t<fami"..., 8192) = 1926
        --- SIGSEGV {si_signo=SIGSEGV, si_code=SEGV_MAPERR, si_addr=0x3} ---

The segfault was traced down to reading one of the XML font files and the "culprit" was libexpat. The remedy was to rebuild expat-2.1.0.tar.gz  with -Bsymbolic-functions passed along to the linker:

LDFLAGS='-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions' ./configure --prefix=/usr && make && make install

Then I was able to use the stock, as-shipped Google Earth binaries and libraries with no other hacks at all. Evidently, there are some UTF and XML symbol clashes between libexpat.so.1 and GE's libbase.so libraries. By using -Bsymbolic-functions in libexpat, overridden symbols in the GE libbase.so shared library are ignored.

All of the caveats apply. It may be highly system specific. This is with the current stable version of Gentoo AMD64, NVidia proprietary graphics driver, kernel 3.5.7 and glibc-2.15.

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux rklrkl 11/27/12 3:28 AM
Google Earth7.0.1.8244  crashes instantly (no windows displayed at all) on 64-bit CentOS 6.3, whereas 6.2.2.6613 works fine on the same system.

Bad things about Google Earth "64-bit" on Linux:

* It's not a 64-bit package! Binaries and libraries are 32-bit inside the "64-bit" RPM. This has been going on for several releases now and is highly embarassing - fix it Google! This means you have to have 32-bit libraries installed (particularly for your graphics driver - e.g. fglrx-x11-drv-32bit which I only found on ELRepo for CentOS 6).

* The version number isn't in the RPM filename - why? Yes, I can get it with "rpm -qip", but I shouldn't need to.

* Latest version crashes as I said (and seemingly on a range of distros) - this shows that little or no testing, particularly on 64-bit systems, seems to have taken place for this new Linux release.
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Marko Kaligarič 11/27/12 5:08 AM
I know that this will not solve this issue, but...It can be an alternative and I know it works for sure in Ubuntu 12.04 amd64(It will build the .deb file, which can be eventually converted to .rpm).

You can install googleearth 6.0.3 by using googleearth-package(Since 7.0 doesn't work and the Google Team doesn't want to post the bin for 6.2 version)

Open the terminal and type as follows:
sudo apt-get install googleearth-package
make-googleearth-package --force
sudo dpkg -i googleearth*
sudo rm GoogleEarth* googleearth*

Eventualy, you can try to convert it to .rpm for a .rpm based distro

1. removing the persian font mentioned in numerous posts;

3. copying libGL.so.1 to /opt/google/earth/free

What else is there to try? This is quite frustrating.

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Know-Won 12/3/12 5:21 PM
I have the same issue.

Ubuntu 12.04 and google-earth-stable 7.0.1.8244.

Would be nice if we could use google earth. However, this is one of the first times I have ever seen this crash in all the years I have been using it.

please fix this. ASAP.
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux NickJP 12/4/12 3:15 PM
Well, installing build 7.0.1.8283 has fixed the problem for me. GE now starts and runs correctly. With the previous build I was previously getting the signal 11 crash at splash screen (on Linux Mint 14 amd64).
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux simos_ 12/4/12 3:19 PM
I tried Google Earth 7.0.1 Build 8283 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 12.10 and it worked fine. Also, the issue with bad-looking fonts for Greek has been resolved.
Thanks Google!
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Klaus Krtschil 12/4/12 3:23 PM
Where do you get that version? The download page still offers the broken version.
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux kmb42vt 12/4/12 6:31 PM
Do you have a link for this new build by any chance?
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux smyl 12/5/12 12:11 AM
Yesterday night, I got it by mail from 'Daniel on behalf of the Google Earth team' as a link to a Google Drive folder.  I'm not sure whether Daniel will like it if I put the link in this forum.  I did not try the new build yet because I was not sure whether I could trust the rpm or not.  After installing the Google rpm key, I will give it a try later today.
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Klaus Krtschil 12/5/12 10:27 AM
At least this seems to be good news and that a fixed version will be published hopefully soon.

Here is the link where you can download the version .8283 as .deb packages both for 32- and 64-bit:

http://www.webupd8.org/2012/12/download-google-earth-7-with-fixed.html

I installed it on my kubuntu 12.04 32-bit and it runs without any tweaks
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux David Breakey 12/8/12 8:52 AM
Minor nit-pick, on installation I get a This package is of bad quality warning:

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Eric Carroll 12/15/12 10:46 AM
Upgraded to NVIDIA 313.09 from the Ubuntu xorg-edgers ppa.

As before Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit.

r8283 is working well graphically.

I did notice that "sign in" results in an error page, "unknown protocol specified". I believe I had this problem on the previous build as well. So right now I don't seem to be able to log in under my Google credentials.

Interestingly, that appears to be a later build that anyone else has reported. Can I ask where you found it?
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Alexander Zubakov 12/19/12 12:37 PM
I found it in AUR package manager using:
$ yaourt -S google-earth

And it seems that this package uses http://dl.google.com/dl/earth/client/current/google-earth-stable_current_i386.deb.
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux markmthomson 12/19/12 12:56 PM
Thanks, it turns out that that build is also now the same as google-earth-stable_current_amd64.deb available at http://www.google.com/earth/download/ge/agree.html. I just tried it and get exactly the same result as you.

had similar crashe,   re-installed package ( arch-linux), read the post-install messages from aur package maintainer I missed 1st time..

did the proposed ( removed the 65-fonts-persian.conf ) , and it works now

these are the messages  from aur package install script, maybe they are relevant to other distros as well.

echo "NOTE: The binary is called 'google-earth'"

Happy New Year Folks,

Version: 7.0.2.8415-0 x86_64
Distro: Fedora 17 (GNOME 3 shell)
Kernel: 3.6.9-2
Graphics card: Integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000
Driver: i915 driver

After the latest update Google Earth starts up without crashing (yay!), however all terrain imagery is absent. That is, the all the terrain/map textures are invisible leaving only the wireframe outline of the countries. See the attached photo.  I've also attached an strace of googleearth-bin truncated after 100k lines.

I've played with the options: caching, graphics safe mode, texture color, high quality terrain, AF, and atmostphere.
I do have 3D rendering available:

$ glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ivybridge Mobile

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Cincon 1/22/13 4:26 PM
For opensuse 12.2 64-bit, I had to rename these files, added "backup" in front of the name

/etc/fonts/conf,d/11-suse-hinting.conf
/etc/fonts/conf.d/65-fonts-persion.conf

Google Earth 7.0.2.8415 then starts with no errors
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Hermann Herz 1/23/13 12:01 AM
Thanks, changed that two files and it runs on openSUSE 12.2 here too!
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux LandisTwo 1/24/13 1:31 AM
this 'fix' or work around of 'renaming' the two files, /etc/fonts/11-suse... and 65-fonts...
also worked for me on openSuSE 12.2 on KDE 4.8.5 r2...

... but, at first look, i'm not liking what i see, but that's another issue with google in general.

Thank You.
Landis.

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux kaczoanoker 2/5/13 6:23 AM
Dear Google,

Can you stop monkeying around and release a true 64-bit version of Google Earth? All modern desktops are now running 64-bit operating systems (especially the Linux community), and installing a 32-bit compatibility layers is annoying, counter-productive and unnecessary for most other software.
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux _________ 2/9/13 4:05 PM
Does it work with win2000? New versions are always linking to some specific libraries of XP or 7.0 to create "We do not support legacy windows" error. Anyway versions after 5.1 are real CPU killer. And after 6.0 they have unswitchoffable tilt incline. Last useful additions were sky, satellite images timeline, line selection with mouse, camera-icons streetview. No graphic card & CPU overloading features after that would interest me. Even banning streetview from all versions earlier then 6.0 didn't promote them to me. I just moved for maps.google.com to use streetview. Why should I've installed 6.0 or 7.0 if they have absolutely nothing new useful or interesting?
Re: Earth 7 update - Linux Fabian DT 2/14/13 9:17 AM
Hey Google Earth team,

same problem here! I have installed Google Earth 7.0.2.8415 on my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS box and the search function (wich by the way is the most important thing on it) does NOT work at all. Whatever I put there the thing just goes to the equator somewhere litereally thousands of miles off of the intended target. For instance if I search for New York City (which should be easy enough to find, since it's big enough) Google Earth points to the equator somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic. Well, hellooo Google Earth! I was not looking for Atlantis!

Please, please, please -- with sugar on top -- fix that bug.

And one other thing: I tried downloading the previous version 6.2 but just in case you haven't noticed: the links for version 6.2 you provide on your website also point to the botched version 7.0
Could you pretty please fix that, too? I mean: how on earth could that slip by you?! Haven't you even tested those links?

Now, I'm very curious to see whether I get any response from you at Google.

Thanks
Fabian

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux inshineum 3/5/13 2:18 AM
I wonder why on Earth they are creating Linux binaries at all? Their debs look like true pornography when it comes to system libraries and the way they're using it, obviously those guys who keep control over development have no idea what Linux is at all =)) Debian people use googleearth-package because that binary Google shares for download breaks system's standards.

Why not fire those MBAs that are heading the project, and hire an experienced opensource architect that could tell a commercial core code from its interface, write adequate specification, and gather opensource community developers to create an adequate piece of software that fits standards, instead of that pornographic crap made by some unknown slaves of craporative wow-buttheads… )))

Re: Earth 7 update - Linux teresaejunior 4/16/13 10:32 AM
Hi, Daniel!

The 7.0.3.8542-r0 works on Debian Wheezy, which is going to be released very soon. There is an issue, however, that is stopping me from wanting to use Google Earth 7: the disk cache is limited to only 1,3GB. I can set it to whatever I want from the settings dialog, but when unified_cache_leveldb_leveldb2 reaches about 1365 MB, it starts throwing those .sst files away. Unfortunately, I pay my Internet provider per data received, so using Google Earth becomes incredibly expensive, besides slower.

Thanks for your attention (I hope I catched it)!

Just installed the latest .deb (7.1) file on kubuntu 13.04. on x64 with AMD video drivers. Same problem as all the other linux users. Crashes on startup.

The solution appears to be use googleearth version 6!! which works fine,

I wont be trying to use the update until it looks like the forums confirm it is fixed.

Thanks

Same problem with /usr/bin conflict here. Please do not add /usr/bin directory to package. You can add contents of /usr/bin, but not /usr/bin itself.

I use also yum repository, where I am unable to find this new version. Please update also yum repos. Thank you.

It often crashes when opening unless I bump up CPU on my laptop to high speed (performance mode).  It is not so good about spinning the globe to the selected location.

OS is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit and up to date.

Hi !
You just have to add "to:" in front of the adress you demand.

Bump after more than one year...

There is something wrong with networking.

Google earth was working fine for me (running Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit on a Toshiba with AMD/ATI) until I installed other updates (and I'm not sure which one caused the problem) and now I'm getting the splash screen then nothing and these errors:
Google Earth has caught signal 11.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Google Earth has crashed.
This is a bug in the program, and should never happen under normal
circumstances. A bug report and debugging data have been written
 to this text file:

I've double checked that everything is executable and I checked on my drivers and nothing seems to help.

Qt-libraries got updated? The bundled libQt* are the most common reason why GE crashes. Here is a way to fix that, plus it fixes panoramio images. (Based on AmirPli's solution)

Hi'

Thanks for this info. If anyone that gets GE7 working on a 32-bit system, using this fix, would please post to this thread, it might help others. It would also make it easier for me to bring this to Google's attention.

Amirpli's fix works for most 64-bit systems unless there are other problems.

Thanks,
Alchemist

I removed my post as the solution borks searches completely.
