|Why is google drive's download so slow? (1.7 to 2.5Mbps on a 100Mbps fibre connection)||dcforeman||8/13/12 5:08 AM|
I have just upgraded google drive, and it now has the 205GB of storage. Yay!
I have a Virgin Media broadband connection with 100 Mbps downloads and 5 Mbps uploads.
Uploading is fine, it seems to use the vast amount of my bandwidth, the problem is downloading. I did a Control Alt Delete and had a look at my network data. It's coming in at just 1.7 - 2.53% of my total network speed at a link speed of 100 Mbps, so it's obviously downloading at just 2.5 Mbps, why am I getting such an insanely slow speed?
I am not using wifi, this machine has a direct wired connection to my router.
I checked with speedtest.net and a few others, I don't get anything less than 40Mbps, and I get 103Mbps on speedtest specifically.
So why is Google drive, a service I'm now paying for delivering content at such a low rate?
And why the hell is there no LAN sync option?
Sorry google if this keeps up I'll be dropping my package next month and upgrading with either dropbox or skydrive.

Google Drive is excessively slow still and almost useless. It's a known problem and there has been almost no discussion of a fix. For now I would use DropBox and bump up by 3gb by using the Camera sync feature.
