|Images not showing in newly uploaded documents||Kabuki Adam||8/7/12 7:55 PM|
When I upload a document from my computer (with conversion turned on), the images in the document don't appear in the document when I open it in Google Docs. I just see grey rectangles with a spinner insider them in place of where the images should be.
I've tried this with a variety of file formats: docx, doc, rtf and I get the same issue in each case. This only affects newly-uploaded/converted files. Files that had previously been uploaded/converted correctly still look fine. I've also tried this with different Google accounts...same issue.
To reproduce this:
1) Using the Google Docs/Drive web interface, upload a docx, doc, rtf file that contains images inside the document. Make sure conversion is turned on.
2) Open the document in the web interface. The images will not be visible, and grey rectangles will appear where the images should be.
It looks like this issue has been going on for at least the past 5 hours or so. Is this a know issue? Any ETA on a fix?

Which computer OS / browser?
What format are the pics in within the original doc? How big are they?
|Re: Images not showing in newly uploaded documents||Kabuki Adam||8/8/12 6:17 PM|
PLATFORMS: Chrome & Safari on Mac (Mountain Lion), and Chrome on Windows 7.
DOCUMENT TYPES: .docx files, .rtf files, and .doc files containing images.
IMAGE SIZES & NUMBERS: mostly small-ish images (less than 512x512), but also some medium and large images. Documents with one image, documents with lots of images.
IMAGE TYPES: tried documents with both jpeg & png images
I've also tried this with several different google accounts. A few of my customers have also emailed me about this exact same problem.
Every combination of the above produces the same result: The converted document does not display the images. It shows a grey rectangle with a spinner inside it where the image should be. This does not seem to be an "edge case" of any sort, it seems to be a big obvious problem that is easy to reproduce.
HOW TO REPRODUCE:
I've attached some sample documents that will reproduce this problem. Each document contains a 474 x 485 image and a couple lines of text. Try uploading the document to Google Docs via the web interface (using conversion) and then open the converted document in Google Docs. I've also attached a screenshot of what it looks like when I open the document in Google Docs

Thanks for the extra info - I have escalated for you.

I am also facing the same problem. Documents (with images) that I uploaded some days ago, if I attempt to upload them again i see this problem (images don't load, just funny spinning circles).
How soon can we get a fix? I think this is pretty urgent.

Thanks Gill, I appreciate it. Is there a way to track the status of this issue?
|Re: Images not showing in newly uploaded documents||Kabuki Adam||8/9/12 6:35 PM|
I should have mentioned that, as Peter mentions, this is a new problem that just popped up a couple days ago. Prior to that everything was working fine for me, and then all of a sudden it wasn't. I'm guessing that Google pushed out an update that changed things (as other threads have noted other changes as well).

I have the same problem.
All the images in uploaded Google Docs documents are spinning circled even after 24 hours.
Please fix it as soon as possible.

Same issue for me.
Uploaded both .doc and .docx. Conversion on. Images show as grey boxes with spinner.
Only thing I've found possible is to individually re-insert each image.
- Save a copy of the image to disc.
- In Doc: Click on "Insert Image"
- Click on "Choose an image to upload"
- Upload file
- Image correctly appears in Doc
(original images in Doc still show grey boxes with spinner.)
Obviously this is not viable on an on-going basis.

We're (all the people in my office) are having the same issue. Pasting an images captured with the Windows & snipping tool, or using "insert Image" is fine, anything else seems to fail. Has any progress been made with this? it seems like a pretty big bug.

People in my office are also having the same problem. The images are not showing. Just rectangle boxes with spinners in them. Is there a fix yet?

It seems the problem has somewhat fixed with my account.
Photos in new uploads today are all correctly shown in documents.
Photos in documents uploaded between Aug 8 to Aug 14 are still all corrupted (spinning wheeled).

cheers for letting us know, it's the same for me, uploading new Word docs now seems to retain the images. Happy days again ;-)
|Re: Images not showing in newly uploaded documents||Kabuki Adam||8/15/12 1:26 AM|
Yep, it is fixed for me for new uploads. Thanks!
|Re: Images not showing in newly uploaded documents||Gill||8/15/12 11:30 AM|
Thanks for that. Can you re-upload the corrupted ones, or import the images separately?
|Re: Images not showing in newly uploaded documents||Kabuki Adam||8/15/12 8:03 PM|
Yes, I have re-uploaded the corrupted ones without a problem.

|Re: Images not showing in newly uploaded documents||Gill||12/20/13 9:54 AM|
Please tell us which computer / browser you are using. You are talking about a Gdocs-format document aren't you? Did you import the images separately, and if so where from, and what format were they in? Or did you import a whole doc that already included pictures?
