|Spreadsheet chart settings have changed?||Mister Chun||7/14/11 7:04 PM|
I have a chart depicting the buy/sell exchange rate for a three banks over many days.
The chart's range covers Date on the X-axis, and Rate on the Y-axis, taking data as below:
DBS Sell 1.31 1.3252
UOB Sell 1.316 1.325
OCBC Sell 1.3145 1.3265
DBS Buy 1.294 1.3092
UOB Buy 1.299 1.308
OCBC Buy1.295 1.307
This used to work, giving me 3 lines for buy and 3 lines for sell values on the chart.
A few days ago I receive this error message on the chart.
Error message: Column 4 cannot be of type string, it is a data column.

I just found this same error today. A chart I have been using for four years suddenly doesn't work and simply says "Column #4 cannot be of type string, it is a data column"

I get the same error on a Google Visualization Chart since a few days now, while it was working for months now and nothing has changed!

Same here, a chart I've been using for several months just started getting this same error.
Well, to be precise I just *noticed* I'm getting the error. Now I'm thinking it may have been broken for over a week. Nice.

Well obvious some changes have happened in the back end without our notice. Don't know if Google will come to our rescue any time soon, so the only solution now is either making multiple simple charts or directly read the values from the spreadsheet..

Several of my documents had the same error. I just found that if you enter a 0 (zero) in any field that does not have data, it will clear the error. Hope this helps.

I think the problem is that it will not accept blank fields anymore. Something has to be there. Good luck all. I fixed mine.

That kinda solved the problem! However entering 0 will cause the entire graph to resize to include zero as well, so I'll probably rearrange the entire table to minimize that.
Thank you so much bob and portfola!

I tried it. Not only did it resize the chart, as MisterChun said, it still didn't cause it to appear where embedded. Sticking with the image version for now.
