The New Tab Page Bookmarks wastes space and makes users click and click and click... jasonvaritekfan 9/22/11 1:17 PM
The just released (Today!) new New Tab Page Bookmarks in Chrome 15 (beta) wastes A LOT of space at the button of the page and does not show all bookmarks in a folder, which makes users have to click and click and click to get to a bookmark that's buried in a folder and subfolder.

The new New Page tab is wonderful in concept, and for the most part is fun, but you are right, it needs some work.  We've lost the ability to pin thumbnails, move them, and hide them.

In my case, it only shows what's on the Bookmarks bar, and with all that space, they could list my folders from Other Bookmarks.

Yep. The new NTP looks nice and I like that I can rename and create new panes, but some well established features are gone. And for me, the worst thing is that I can't view all my bookmarks, I have to click on the Show all link. It's just too many clicks.

I wonder if this was a case of rushing out something that wasn't fully baked or tested. I know we're on the beta channel, so things aren't final, but I think features that Chrome users have come accustomed, like those you mentioned, to are probably gone.

I delete my browsing history at every end of month, what's going to happened to my most visited sites if I don't pin them?

Echo. Waste too much space and I like to open a new tab with the most visited/ pinned thumbnails and having above the most used bookmarks.

I dislike the new New Tab page as well. I like having the bookmarks at the top of the New Tab page only (not all the time). Its too many clicks to get to the recently closed pages and is in an inconvenient location. So long story short, I much prefer the old New Tab page

I want the old NTP back, and I'm not someone who just hates change, I love new stuff, but there is nothing better about this and it's all worse. It's a clumsy, extra-clicks interface.

Just fire the buffoon who pushed for this design, revert to the old page in next update however minor and we'll pretend this monstrosity never happened. Or we can, you know, switch browsers.

I tried to adapt, failed.  In 15 versions this is the first change I disliked.

Don't like displaying the bookmarks bar all the time, like it on the new tab page.
Don't like to switch tabs to launch bookmarks vs most visited.
Extra click to open previously closed tabs, boo.
Lost the button to open all previous tabs.

Agree with everyones comments here, its definitely a step back.

Maybe we can have the old layout in the options somewhere? I'm sure the new layout is useful for some people, but having to pick BETWEEN 'bookmarks' and 'most visited' for the load-up screen is intensely frustrating, and the first thing I did today was to create bookmarks for all my 'most visited' pages.

Also, did the incognito page new-tab used to show your bookmarks, or am I misremembering that? I use the Incognito feature on a daily basis to keep my harddrive as clean of cached data as possible and it -seems- a lot more arduous to use now, but I'm not sure if I'm subconsciously doing something different given the New Tab re-arrangement.

Really wish I could roll-back this update (though don't get me wrong, I do think the folks at Google probably put a lot of thought into the redesign... it just honestly doesn't mesh with me at all).

Hi everyone,

As you may have noticed, on the Beta channel (Chrome version 15), we have removed the Bookmarks section from the "new" new tab page for now, while we continue to make the new tab page better. We have also reintroduced the floating bookmarks bar that appears on the new tab page, to allow for easy access to your bookmarks.

I'm going to close out this thread as it no longer relevant for the current new tab page. Stay tuned as we iterate on the new tab page.
