How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Ofirko 9/7/10 11:55 PM
Google Chrome version (type about:version into the address bar):Operating System:Error Message:Extensions installed:
Please describe your question/comment in detail (for example, steps to reproduce the problem):
The Chrome search bar has been "taken over" by Babylon search, so every search is redirected to Babylon search. I'm trying to remove it, but it seems to have no trace in my control panel. I tried reinstalling Google Chrome, but that didn't solve the problem either.

Does anyone have an idea?
(Beware - Babylon are spammers!)
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Cokey Burgy 10/6/10 4:23 PM
Just click on the tools (the wrench icon in the upper right corner), and go to "Options". There you will see your startup page, and you can change that from "http://search.Babylon.com" to "http://www.google.com",

Then below that you will see a pulldown tab that says "Default Search" and it will be set to "babylon search" - just pull down the tab to pick another search provider - I assume you want Google so pick that.

Make sure you go to any other browsers you use (Firefox, IE, etc) and also reset your homepage to whatever you'd like, because Babylon automatically set your default homepage as "http://search.babylon.com" in ALL your installed browsers.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? kmbi 11/5/10 7:39 PM
I had the same problem, even after uninstalling. To the right of the address bar, there is a smaller white search engine bar.  Click on the arrow next to the search engine icon (probably Babylon!) and a menu will drop showing all your search engines. At the bottom, it says "manage search engines".Click on this. It will show a list with icons, including Babylon.  Select Babylon and click Remove.  Poof gone Babylon from your toolbar. And from your search engines.

This after uninstalling Babylon, deselecting it from the toolbar, resetting my home page to Google.  Have not restarted the computer to see if it holds, but so far so good.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? edwinsequeira 6/18/11 10:18 PM
Its Very EASY ... I understand your frustration..... Just follow all these steps and you will be FREE of that basterd babylon from GOOGLE CHROME only..

First do a normal uninstall by going to "Control Panel" then Add/Remove Programs.

After that
1. Go to Start > Run > Regedit
2. On the left panel go to the top of the list
3. Press F3 and search for the word Babylon.
4. Regedit will find the first one – press delete
5. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you’ll get something like: “Regedit did not find….”

Then follow the steps described by Cokey Burgy above which is click on the tools (the wrench icon in the upper right corner), and go to "Options". There you will see your startup page,  There you will see your startup page, and you can change that from "http://search.Babylon.com" to "http://www.google.com",

Then below "Toolbar" you will see a pulldown tab that says "Search" and it will be set to "babylon search" - just PULL DOWN the tab to PICK / CHOOSE / SELECT another search provider - I assume you want Google so pick that.
While ur at that u will see "Enable Instant for faster searching and browsing" check that box..

I hope u found this to be helpful and it rid you of that pesky babylon shit.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Melecio 9/10/11 7:48 AM
Go click the wrench on the upper right area and then go to Options and then click Manage Search Engines. Delete the Babylon by hovering over its search bar and click the X. The Babylon bar should disappear. Now set the Search back to your default (if it was Google before, Switch back to Google, Or if Yahoo, Switch back to Yahoo.) search engine. But if you re-enter it directs your default website into the Babylon Search, Here is how to remove it: Go click the wrench on the upper right area and then go to Options. Find Home Page. Go to the Bookmark and look for the URL of your original search website, Remove the Babylon from the Home page and paste the URL there, and VOILA! ( Note: Babylon also is applied to your other browsers (such as Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer). Since they have different controls, You have to remove them with different ways, I was able to help because I had posted this after removing the Babylon search problem. )

Hi guys,

Belated reply, but here are some troubleshooting steps to try in the future (also see the article in Reference 1 about removing suspicious software):

1) Run an anti-virus scan and remove anything that sounds suspicious.

2) If you've enabled any extensions, try disabling them one a time to see if that does the trick (type chrome://settings/extensions into the omnibox/address bar)

Please be careful what you download/install on your computer!

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? New Websites 2/22/12 11:01 PM
Google is wrong to support Babylon. Babylon is powered by Google and receives its money from Google adsense.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? New Websites 2/22/12 11:03 PM
By the way Taylor (Google employee),

Babylon doesn't ask permission to install its search engine that you power, it sneaks it onto other downloads. If you want to help, please have it booted from your system.

Yes Your method worked. I forgot about my regedit...I haven't used it in years.

Thanks so much that program was driving me crazy, it didn't slow anything down but i don't like when a program doesn't give you a choice. Thats computer rape...

Thank you

right ive tried all of these and none of them have worked, on the wrench on my google chrome there isnt a options to click on. So i have no idea how to get rid of it
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? nne18 5/3/12 9:13 PM
Like others, there's no "x" to delete it as the default browser.  I have no idea what to do.  I tried deleting it from my control panel and C drive, and it's still showing up.  I even did a system restore, and no-go.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Craig Long 5/3/12 10:48 PM
Wrench > Settings > Basics > Search > Manage Search Engines.  I have a Babylon option listed but I use Google Search.  You don't need to delete Babylon, just choose Google Search.  Don't go to default Browser.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? ixtis 5/4/12 1:18 PM
Did that no option in drop down ??
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Craig Long 5/4/12 5:45 PM
Click on Wrench > "About Google Chrome" and check for updates to Chrome.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? frontieraitalia 5/15/12 4:07 PM
Did not worked for me. I went to the extension manager in the settings and deleted the extension that I installed by installing a webdownloaded program. Just disabled it. Now Chrome works fine.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? DarkKnight1971 5/28/12 4:42 PM
Hey guys ... a few notes (in case anyone had problems following the advice like I had):

1) There is no 'Options' selection when I go into the 'wrench' on the upper right in Chrome! Rather, you can go to 'Settings', and 'Manage search engines' option is 2nd from the bottom.

2) You can look for whatever search engines in the list that pops to, to delete them (Babylon is in there!) BTW, I was surpised to see how many search engines I don't want have gotten into that list! ...

3) The first time I did 1) and 2), Babylon's icon was STILL in the Chrome icons to the right of the search bar. From here, I right clicked it, and a drop-down list has a 'Remove from Chrome' option in it. So, I clicked on that ... now Babylon is gone.

Just another method that I hope helps anyone still struggling with this. Now, if I remember the quick and easy way to get rid of freakin' vGrabber, I will post it here too ;) ...

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? DarkKnight1971 5/28/12 4:46 PM
P.S. Oh yeah ... as many people have already said, don't forget to also remove any  Babylon progams through the Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall programs over <----------

Good luck! And your right ... I thought Google's mantra was 'Don't be evil'. That Babylon thing is just awful! ...

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Lzee 5/29/12 8:02 AM
I did everything that was suggested including the editing the registry and it was still showing up. Then I did this:

Go to Wrench
Settings
At very top, look for "On start-up". There are three options:
- Open the New Tab page
- Continue Where I left off
- Open a specific page or set of pages, and then "Set pages"

Bingo! The last one was set to Babylon. I changed it to "Open the New Tab page". That's what fixed it for me.

I have tried many things directed by the forum but there was one thing that I found that was left out...
Go to the Wrench, Tools, Extensions, Click on Settings, Look for "On Startup", Click on "Set Pages".  I found Google and Babylon.  Delete Babylon.  Once I did that Babylon finally went away.  I also Emailed Babylon and told them I was not happy with them.  I have no idea how Babylon got on my pc.  Good Luck.

Try this:
- Go to wrench
- Look at top left corner and see "extensions."
- Hit "extensions."
- See Babylon tool bar.
- Hit delete.

See if that works.  I just did it ... with any luck it will not return.

I hope.  (Bastards!)

Well I used Settings (if you can't see Options) as in last post and it seems to have worked - no sign of Babylon. I would recommend it as a simple way to fix this annoying problem. Funded by Google - is that correct - insane.

Search Providers and clicked and all the search engines came up and there was Babylon and I clicked and clicked "Remove" and I think it is gone.  I also found it on the "internet options" under "Tools" and changed it.  I don't know if this will work but hope it does.

EDIT: If you remember or can identify what software/extension/toolbar triggered this change, please do let us know what it is and where you had downloaded it from.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those of you who are new to this thread, Chrome's page for managing Settings has changed since this post was first created.
If you are seeing Babylon search in Chrome instead of your usual homepage/default search engine/startup pages, please check the following for traces of Babylon.
  • If Babylon pages are opening up each time you start up Chrome, check in Chrome menu (previously Wrench icon) Settings On Startup > next to the radio button for Open a specific page or set of pages, click on Set pages > remove any unwanted URLs by hovering over the URL until you see an "X" appear to the right side of the URL.
  • If all searches that you perform in the omnibox is returning with results from Babylon instead of your preferred search engine, check in Chrome menu (previously Wrench icon) > Settings Search Manage search engines > check the list of Default search enginesOther search engines, and Search engines added by extensions, and remove suspicious entries that you are not familiar with. Depending on your extensions, you may not see the last section for Search engines added by extensions.
  • If Babylon is opening up when you click on the Home button, check in Chrome menu (previously Wrench icon) > Settings Appearance > select the Show Home button checkbox > check if the URL that appears below it references Babylon.
  • Also check that there are no extensions installed that may be causing these changes. Go to Chrome menu (previously Wrench iconSettings Extensions > if you see any unfamiliar extension that you do not remember installing, try disabling/removing the extension to see it was causing these changes. To disable, uncheck the "Enabled" checkbox next to the extension. To remove, hover over the extension until you see a trash can icon appear, and click on the icon.
If you are seeing another behavior for Babylon, please provide us with more details about it.

These changes are usually caused by a 3rd party software that you may have installed. Some of these software will bundle toolbars, or other extensions/programs as part of the installation causing changes to your default browser's startup pages, search engine, and homepage settings. If you do not remember installing any Babylon specific software around the time that this change took place, it is advisable to perform a malware scan to make sure that there are no other suspicious programs remaining that could make changes to your settings.

You can go to settings (wrench sign)then click settings.Go to On startup and select link for set pages. Cancel the babylon page and click ok. Go to Control Panel - Programs and features - Uninstall a program to uninstall it if installed on your pc.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? nikkipoy 7/4/12 1:00 PM
Yeah yeah yeah... the wrench fix does not fix the entire problem--nor does uninstalling it or removing it from the registry.... or restoring your system to before you  downloaded it... it still pops up as a separate tab if you open Google Chrome...

Thank you, thank you, - nothing else worked until your directions.  This is truely an Evil program.  Absolutely nothing in a download recommended in Drudge report for updating video viewer about getting Babylon.  I have suffered with this b&stard program for months.  Whoever or whatever company that so deceptively programs something to make it so pervasive and difficult to remove should be punished.  If google did design this, it confirms my decision to purchase iPhones for my entire family for our recent move overseas.

go to windows epxlorer and go to C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions\
with me it didn't even show in extensions and had to delete it here.
Or if you got windows do a search on your c drive and delete all babylons that you see folders and all files in babylon folders. Did worked for me, also did reg etc first but still popped up in new tab and search, also reboot should help after actions and do same steps.   This program should be banned and apps that have this crap in installer (laptop of girlfriend had issue beacause of installing and not deselecting this bogus) Greetz

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? McPraveen 7/8/12 9:32 PM

This is for people using Windows 7 and Google Chrome browser.

Ok I tried all the suggestions that are mentioned below and still the Babylon was showing up on my browser. I found one answer below useful. I will elaborate on it as it was not Windows 7 specific.

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Go to Network and Sharing Center.
3. You will see internet options (mostly on the down left corner), click on it.
4. Go to Programs and click Manage add-ons.
5. Click on Search Providers, and select Babylon, even it shows disabled.
6. In the down part you will see the two boxes; unselect search in address bar; and click on Remove on the right hand bottom corner and Close.

Mostly this should work as it has worked for me.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? hollykat 7/11/12 5:10 PM
GOT RID OF IT!! whop whop (after 2 hours of frustration)

Here's EXACTLY what I did...(I'm not very good with computers but followed others instructions carefully and tried a few things myself so hopefully if you do the same you'll be Babylon free) Remember whereas I am using windows vista your computer may be slightly different so the second steps may look slightly different so don't let this put you off.

STEP ONE:
First all of the obvious but essential things...

1. In 'customize and control' (i.e the little wrench beside the eye in the top right hand corner of google chrome.) You go to settings then change delete babylon from every angle in 'On Startup,'When I had the problem I was told to go into this and click 'Open a new page or set of pages and take babylon off.  Then leave it back on 'Open new tab page' if this has changed.

2. Then in settings again go to 'Search' and click 'Manage Search Engines,'again taking off babylon. After this unclick (if it is not done already) the 'Enable instant for faster searching' box.

STEP TWO:

Go to Start (the icon at the very bottom left of your computer) click on 'Control Panel.' From here click on 'Uninstall a Program' under the heading 'Programs.'From here you will be able to view all of the Programs and if Babylon is there to uninstall- do so.

STEP THREE:

This is something I did as a precaution, so I included instructions for anyone who wishes to do the same...

Type 'Malwarebytes Antimalware' into your search engine and download their free malware protection. 'Babylon Search' is of course malware (grrrr!!!) Follow their instructions and run a scan.

STEP FOUR:

I should also mention I already had something called C Cleaner on my computer, which removes stuff you don't need and makes space on your computer. It's not malware but I said I'd include everything I did. This is a brilliant device which gets rid of soooo much crap from your computer so everyone should have it anyway...If anyone wants it then just follow the same steps as STEP THREE typing in 'C CLeaner' into the search engine instead of 'Malwarebytes Antimalware.'

STEP FIVE:

After all these steps have were followed I uninstalled Google Chrome itself using the same steps as in STEP TWO. I firmly believe that as with many people who just tried to uninstall it that this would not have worked had I not done all of the rest first.

STEP SIX:

I re-installed Google Chrome and once I did it was all ok. POW!!! Take that Babylon ya big &%@*

STEP SEVEN:

Change to Mozilla Firefox; My boyfriend convinced me (as he had been trying over the last few months) to change back as nothing like this ever happens with it and I have to admit he may possibly be somewhat close to half probably not-entirely wrong (that hurt).

Anyway I hope this works for ya'll because I know how head wreaking it is and my apologies for the over simplistic instructions for those in the know- was thinking about generations that didn't grow up with pooters strapped to their faces. PEACE! ;)

This does not work, Babylon installs itself in other ways, it will always revert back to it even if you change the homepage. I have yet to find how to get rid of it without uninstalling chrome, which is a realy pain in the ass and I'm not willing to do that, theres always a way to get rid of these things without messing with your install

The Chrome search bar has been "taken over" by Babylon search, so every search is redirected to Babylon search. it delays my search engine and also my google toolbar. my home page is google default search engine is google chrom. hence, i want to uninstall babylon  to restore google home page and google chrom as my default search engine
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Fumanaz 7/28/12 7:17 AM
It is not just one Google Chrome people. Its on your computer period! Open each one of your browsers and you will see. This is a computer issue, not a Chrome issue. Don't understand why most continue to point at just Chrome.

Removing all regedt32 entries, will update once I am finished.

Paste this on your web address field..
chrome://chrome/settings/search
search for "tab" in that search option provided on top.

click on set pages

There you delete that site address...

Solved..  :)

I had the same problem. Tried "everything", until I put some bits and pieces together and this is the solution to delete Babylon completely. I would have typed it over if it wasn't as long but open the link and I promise you this will solve the problem for Firefox and Chrome...

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? helpadvisor 8/10/12 4:13 PM
This particular item is a bugger! I have NO idea how it was installed on my computer, but it was. It is not just on chrome. It is on your programs configuration of your computer and every web browser you have on your computer. Therefore, there are many steps to be taken.
Of course the first step you will want to do is remove the program through the control panel. (DO NOT USE THE UNINSTALL if it came with Babylon. It is a Trojan Virus.)
Go to your control panel and find "programs and features" for windows 7. Open by clicking the icon. Once the new page opens, remove the program from there. Don't worry, you are not going to loose anything important. Click on Babylon Search to uninstall. Once that is completed, close the window and open each web browser, one by one. Unfortunately, each browser has it's own method to remove the software from the default.

For Chrome: follow instructions to click on the wrench on the top right. From here you will want to click on settings. From this page will be the following settings: Sign In, On start up, Search, and user.
Under advanced user, at the bottom in blue text select the blue font "use default settings". This will turn the default reset all back to defaults.
Next select, "Open a specific page or set of pages below the text, "On Start up"
After selecting the blue font "set pages", you will see Babylon as what is selected. There is an option to type in a new selection such as Google or chrome. Go to search then manage web browser. Delete Babylon from there. Finally, select a browser to make Default.
Good luck!

.

Go to setting from right hand top corner trench menu. You should see " On Startup"  in top 10 lines. select the " Open a specific page or set of pages " and you click the set pages. It will pop up and highlight the pages name. Just remove the unwanted Babylon from there by clicking on cross. You are done !!!

So CNet are now deliberately bundling this malware with their downloads [and presumably getting paid handsomely to do it] - see:

So it's goodbye to this formerly great site.

I went to CNET looking for a free photo editor. Their recommendation was Photo Pos Pro. That is when I got the Babylon Toolbar and the changes to Chrome. I have AVG Antivirus and it missed it. That makes me mad too.

Babylon and that other parasitic search engine 'FunSearch' somewhow attach themselves and take over Google Chrome when downloading and installing Google Chrome.  While they cannot be removed (not visible) in Control Panel or via a local search, they can be blocked via Settings on the Gmail site (if that's your provider) or via the Internet Options of Microsoft.  Great pity that these verminous sites cannot be destroyed to free us from such invasive behaviour!

None of the tips worked for me - Spybot removed a lot of junk but it was not a permanent fix. I had to uninstall Google Chrome, after exporting my Bookmarks. There was no entry in any of my files for "Baybalon" after I re-installed Google Chrome it was gone!

I would suggest one other idea that i have not seen posted anywhere else. I went on the Microsoft website and downloaded their free PC health check. It pick out two "stumbleupon" malware (which AVG missed). It removed them for me. It then prompts you to restart your pc. Babylon disappeared. Worth a try when all else has failed.

Best of luck.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? RichXF904 9/16/12 8:25 AM
1) remove babylon search using"add or remove programs"
2) click on the wrench then "view background pages", remove babylon search here
3) click on the wrench, go to "settings"; change babylon search in the "set pages" option under "on startup"
4) also on the "settings" page go to "manage search engines" and remove babylon search from there.

This should hopefully work. I didn't see step 2 posted anywhere else. It has took me half an hour to figure it out.

Thanks Rich  -   worked a treat.  These parasitic web sites attach themselves on to Google Chrome and each time a download and installation is performed they take over the browser.  Can't an organization the size of Google take affirmative action to neutralise these parasitic sites: there ought to be a law agin it!

Babylon is not a normal toolbar that you can remove simply by uninstalling from control pane. it is a malicious program, a virus that should be treated like a virus. to get rid of babylon redirect  search malware or babylon toolbar, you have to install an anti-malware tool like Malware Bytes or Hitman pro or Microsoft Security Essentials. you may also try manual removal method to remove babylon virus be deleting its components, proesses and registry values, babylon virus removal tutorials can be found on internet like this one

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? RoundR77 9/22/12 7:15 AM
yes I hate the babylon thing, that like start now toolbar, ask, incredimail, my websearch. They don't help at all I normally will go into start>control panel>programs> and un install it from there.

However when the browser is all messed up sometimes the best thing to do is un install the browser (Chrome or Firefox) and re install a fresh one.

Interesting to note it's good to un install the toolbars and such or they will try to re install themselves on the fresh browser.
I have a very helpful tool that allows you to sort of do it yourself (make computer fast and remove viruses) if you need additional options.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Computerfreezing 9/22/12 7:23 AM
if the browser is still redirecting after removing babylon from programs list you could try http://virusgoaway.com/computer-freezes-randomly/ as a sort of virus removal and tune up only instead of paying someone else and having computer tied up in store you do it yourself.
If the computer has babylon search....that's not all that is has...it has other annoying malware as well.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Gerard Computer 9/27/12 1:05 PM
You have to uninstall Babylon from your list of programs....start>control panel>programs    then highlight anything Babylon and uninstall
I know that was a quick suggestion but usually there are other areas of the computer that are effected. I would suggest downloading a virus scanner such as Super anti spyware and doing full scan http://gerardcomputer.com/redirect-virus/

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Gerard Computer 9/27/12 1:10 PM
you may consider trying to uninstall it from your programs and perhaps uninstalling Google Chrome as well....and then reinstalling Chrome fresh
But the key would be to uninstall the toolbar or whatever it is from programs
you know....start...control panel....programs (programs and features or whatever) then highlight the offending program or toolbar and uninstall

Click the customize button at the extreme right end of the address bar, then click Settings go to Search button.Below it you will find drop down menu.Select it as Google.Besides the drop down menu there is one more button i.e. Manage search engines, click it and then a Dialog box(Default search settings) will open. You can see few links viz. Google, isearch, Yahoo, Bing. Hover the mouse cursor over the Google link and you will see a "make default" button, click it and delete the rest of the search engine links if you wish.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Crytos 10/4/12 10:21 PM
I found the fix!

So I went into extensions and removed everything babylon related, then i went into settings and managed my search engines and removed all babylon related stuff there too.

But after that when i opened chrome it was still opening this babylon POS! OMG.

So hopped into setting again and the sneaky thing had changed my 'on startup' setting to 'open a specific page' and in there it had set the babylon homepage rubbish. I deleted that and set it to just open a new tab on start up and now it's gone.

I'd never heard of babylon before now and now i hope the company dies a horrible death for being so intrusive. Idiots.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? GOPE 10/5/12 1:52 AM
Yes you are right Crytos! We need to delete the babylon link from "On startup" in "Settings".Just have to make sure that only google homepage or any other desired URL is there as Startup pages.

I have been complaining about it as well; Unistalling google and reinstalling didn´t do any good too, nor regedit, except this: unistalled chrome, I unistalled Google with Iobit advanced system care, in order not to get any trace of it then spent a lot of time typing bab in the windows search box and removed everything;then reinstalled chrome. It has been ok for now but I´m still sacred it gets back to taking over the browser.
The worst part of it though is tah google doesn´t give a s*** about this issue.

Hey All

In order to remove the Babylon Software follow these Steps :

Go to Control Panel, click Programs (software).

Uninstall "Browser Manager" + "Bprotector" + "Object Installer" + "Babylon Toolbar on IE"

Then depending on which browser you use , follow the relevant steps:

Thank you! This worked like a charm. I had installed something recently that forced Babylon search in all my browsers, which I successfully removed in the others. However, I don't use Chrome regularly so I just today discovered it had hijacked my default opening page and I couldn't reset it. So I Googled and found your solution. Thank you!

Too true! No CNET ever again for me! I still can't get tid of that Babylon on Firefox. Chrome, however, is babylon free. Any help with that one? I'm exasperated!

Watch out for scorgeforge too, their software usually comes with some annoying malware or adware too. Imo torrents are safer! Ain't that something??

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? evan.macgibbon 10/31/12 5:25 PM
Here's the solution.  Do everything folks say...delete the Babylon file from the registry...go to Chrome Settings and change the search option to Google and set the page for Google...delete Babylon.  BUT....you have to have admin rights to the computer for this to work.  So if you do not/not have admin rights you need to change that.  I am using a friend's computer...he added me so I can sign in with my password.  His Chrome was affected so he deleted the files and made the setting changes and it work.  Bye, Bye Babylon.  But it didn't work with me.  He gave me admin rights...made the changes and it worked.  He took me off the admin rights list and Babylon was back!  The key is to set the rights and don't change them. I had been trying to get rid of this for a few weeks now and was about to give up.  This solution should work for you, too.  How Babylon can crawl into the Admin Rights arena is beyond me.  Any ideas on how they do this?  Thanks
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? evan.macgibbon 10/31/12 5:41 PM
you have to have admin rights to the computer to make the changes stick.  Delete Babylon files....change chrome settings as discussed previously....BUT make sure you have and maintain admin rights.  This works.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? R sharma 11/10/12 2:48 AM
Babylon search is very annoying! but i managed to delete it.

First of all click start
Then Computer or my computer
Then C:
Then Program Files(x86)
Then the Google file

if there are any files related to or on babylon, delete them.

If this doesn't work o the following,

Click start
Then computer or my computer
On the top right search babylon
then click on computer again which should appear
you will get a number of files related to babylon
Delete them

It is likely that you would be unable to delete them as something will stop you, therefore you need to keep clicking try again continuously, the refresh the page and that file should be gone. Continue doing this with each and every file.

Now open google chrome, go to settings, where it says on startup click 'Open a specific page or set of pages' next to it, it should say set pages. Over here delete babylon and add google instead.

This should work

Good luck!

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? PetrN 11/16/12 7:52 AM
Revo Uninstaller does not remove babylon program completely, because they changed the name to browser manager. You have to remove both babylon AND browser manager. Also, if you are using syncing, it is better to disable it and get rid of babylon on all affected computers.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? lovesgreatreward 11/16/12 9:57 AM
The worst thing about these tag-along softwares is that they are now being bundled with download.com installations.  One would think that cnet would be above such intrusive behaviors and would safeguard its users against these pernicious programs.  If I want the damned software, I'll go find it on my own.  The problem is that even when you opt-out of them at install, when you click "accept" you are accepting the very program you were opting out of.  Perhaps I am wrong, but this has been my experience in the last year, or so, with download.com.  Where now to get beyond the hostile takeover of my computers!!!?  Thanks for the steps.  They seem to have helped (for now!!! This thing keeps coming back and I'm afraid a registry edit might be in order.)

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? gguy 11/17/12 4:09 PM
I've been looking for ways to delete the worst of the malware lurking on the internet such as the babylon toolbar, funmoods and searchnu.com with limited success.

I've had them completely removed from Firefox and to some extent on IE by downloading a program that prevents searchnu.com from being the start page. So while I am no subjected to having to see searchnu.com as my start page it still is there on my computer using IE9.

My major problem was with Chrome with babylon toolbar, funmoods, searchnu.com opening up in their own tabs. I had deleted Chrome and all possible files on my desktop re-installing Chrome only to find them all again every time, until following Cokey Burgy's excellent solution to the problem. Thanks very much Cokey Burgy.

I've worked my way around these malicious programs but never have I been able to
rid them completely until now, thanks to you, edwinsequeira and Cokey Burgy and both your resolutions posted here.

But still with IE have not been able to get rid of http://www.searchnu.com/614
was unable to locate it via the registry method as I have done with Babylon, funmoods.

Thanks again very much.

1) On Chrome, click on the 3 horizontal bars (for some it is a wrench) at the top right.
2) Click on "Settings"
3) On "Start Up" > "Open a specific page or set of pages", click on the link "Set Pages".
4) Put the mouse on the name of the damn thing and a "X" will appear at the righ of the damn name. ERASE IT!

Hi there,
I've tried everything you said but unfortunately it didn't work!

I can't find any folder in my PC containing any babylon files. I've tried changing the search engine and the default pages in the settings on chrome and have also tried to erase that from IE. Nothing.
It's still there.
I'm running a malware scan but that's not finding anything either.

I am sure I downloaded it by accident when downloading an extension from the Chrome extensions store but I have removed that one as well.

Thanks!

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Computerfreezing 11/27/12 6:47 AM
Rather than try to give you a page of instructions you may want to try un installing any babylon stuff from start>programs (the list of programs on your pc) then you may consider un installing Chrome altogether than installing Chrome fresh this may be a quick fix to have a clean browser free of babylon...the other way would be to go into the settings of Google Chrome and remove and or disable any babylon stuff. Best wishes

•        Uninstall the Babylon in Programs and Features.
•        Check if the babylon Toolbar is still there in Tools>Manage Add-ons>Toolbars and extentions, if it still there, disable that(select and hit disable button)
•        Remove the Babylon homepage(Tools>Internet Options> general>Homepage(change it towww.google.com or use blank).
•        Check if the babylon is raising up when we open a new tab in the same window( Click on add tab in the Internet explorer)
•        if it is comming up:
•        Take a Regestry Backup and follow the steps:
•        Windows+R on desktop> Type Regedit and hit ok button> Select computers> hit Ctrl+F> Type Babylon in the search box and hit "Find Next" button.
•        That brings up the Babylon regestry control just Delete it(Hit Del and Enter),Search again(Just hit F3) and delete all the babylon controls.
•        Repeat the above step untill search says: "Finished Searching through the Regestry" when you hit F3.
•        Click ok button.
•        Restart the computer(Optional)
The babylon nomore bothers you. It has been completely removed from your system.

Hi,

I also facing this issue. Somehow, what i did as belows still not able to remove it.
- Follow the steps as mentioned. (remove from page start on and remove particular search engine.
- Uninstalled Babylon toolbars and remove all related files.
- Even did a clean uninstall within remove registries of Google Chrome.
- After installed back, once open it, the Babylon Search Engine still appear in first page.
- Deleted all possible Babylon registry and even tried to set some google registry to go to http://www.google.com, but still same
- Ran anti-virus (Symantec.cloud), but yet can remove the it.

But i have found out another good thing is, if i create another user account, i log in on it, it wont happen..

Can i say now the only thing i can do is recreate my original user profile on the notebook?

Just on google chrome, there are A LOT of people out there who have found your toolbar magically install itself without permissions and piggy backing onto peoples pcs through downloads. In my opinion, that is a virus, so I suggest you pack up and fuck off because you have a lot of nerve posting help in this forum
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Bloctopus 12/3/12 9:05 PM
I had the same problem, every solution seems to just cover up the problem by setting the home page to google.com. but it still comes up in the new tab page.

After 2 hours of this crap. I stumbled on a youtube clip of someone mentioning that Babylon search was also called 'Linkury Smartbar' in the computer.

So i installed Revo Uninstaller from CNET. (4.5 star rating. pretty trust worthy) and then looked for the application called 'Linkury Uninstaller'and did an advance uninstall of it.

and it should be gone next time you open your internet browser. if it's still there, just simply change all the settings in your browser (eg. on start up open - and set to blank or whatever, and home page settings)

I actually cannot find anything on the net that did this.

hope this helps.

I found this on my computer when my son tried downloading Minecraft.
Despite trying all of the instructions Babylon didn't show up when searching, they seem to have found a sneaky way of ensuring that it remains hidden when looking under settings as suggested in the instructions posted previously in this thread.
But by searching for 'Linkury Smartbar' (thanks your Bloctopus!!) in the installed programs and uninstalling it I finally seem to have something that has worked.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Computerfreezing 12/10/12 4:45 PM
Yes its a pain one spot it hides is in "programs" list and it can also be found in the actual browser settings themselves. Whether I.Explorer or Chrome...I usually encourage people to simply uninstall babylon from programs list but also to uninstall (without saving settings) Chrome and reinstall fresh install of Chrome. A heavy handed but effective way of fixing I.Explorer is simply to do full reset open I.E>Tools>Internet Options>Reset>Full Reset. However I usually find that if babylon toolbar has made its way on to the p.c there are usually other forms of Malware. For an inexpensive and safe fix for speeding up computer and doing virus removal a do-it-yourself tutorial can be found at http://computershoptutorials.com/

Anyways I deleted linkury smarbar from control panel > uninstall a program and its now gone!

Not sure if its been addressed yet, but I use the free Revo Uninstaller

It hunts down the registry files associated with the program while its uninstalling it.  I found that just uninstalling babylon and removing it from chromes options wasn't working, so I nuked the bitch haha.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Gerard Computer 12/16/12 11:26 AM
great question, 1. go to Start > Control Panel > Programs...this varies on different computers. Simply click on any program called babylon and select un install. So babylon may be under a different name but 1st thing is you should uninstall it from ur p.c...the thing with babylon is it hides itself in the "browser settings" like Internet Explor. or Chrome or Fire Fox. I will cover I.Explorer...open I.Explorer go to tools or little sprocket in top right corner.
TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > PROGRAMS (tab)> ADD ONS > MANAGE AD ONS ...then right click and remove or disable anything fishy. With other "browsers" you don't have to but I suggest simply uninstalling them and installing a fresh version or crome or fire fox...NOTE: you will lose bookmarks and such...if you have any. http://buy-bug-out-bag.com/computer-survival/

It was so annoying when inadvertently I got it installed on my own laptop that I decided to write a tutorial on How to get rid of it, here: http://www.ubertechblog.com/2012/12/how-to-remove-babylon-toolbar.html
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? diva42 12/25/12 3:55 AM
Hi Sie_Deen I installed 3gp player from 3gpplayer.org and it silently installs this babylon and claro search even though when you install the player you can untick to not install it still installs I spent my whole christmas eve removing this as it is found not only in browsers installed on the users machine and add/remove programs but the registry, appdata and who knows where else I used adwcleaner, malwarebytes, spybot, hijackthis, roguekiller, aswMBR,OTL,Minitoolbox,Farbar Service Scanner and removed a few by myself one in the registry who knows if I got it all.

I have the install log and an xml file if your interested I can get it to you just tell me where to send it.

Merry Christmas!

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Stefan Hummel 12/25/12 2:09 PM
I also did have this annoying issue. The sucker kept coming back even after
re-installing Chrome.
I tried adware removal software, none of these helped. It is also not easy to find a useful piece of advice, because either someone wants to sell you a piece of software or advice or even worse will you infect with another virus.

The way this piece of malware works is as follows:

1. A service called "Browser Manager" is being started on your system
   (check with services.msc)

2. You registry does several entries to Babylon or "Browser Manager"
   (check with regedit)

3. In your temp folder some left overs of malicious exe might exist.
4. It is not possible to fix the system at runtime, this is being prevented by the malicious exe file called "Browser Manager"

That's how I fixed it:

1.  Run msconfig ,deactivate all services and reboot the system in secure mode
2.  Find the "Browser Manager" in Program Data and delete the sources

In my case source was located in C:\ProgramData\Browser Manager\2.2.565.25\{16cdff19-  861d-48e3-a751-d99a27784753}browsemngr.dll

Also delete any Babylon files, if still around

3.  Run Regedit:  Search first for Babylon, there will be a reference from "Browser Manager"
    Next search for "Browser Manager".
In both cases delete entries as well as references in the registry.

4. Deinstall Chrome, Clear entire IE and other Caches
5. Install Chrome

Hopefully someone from babylon will be held accountable for the damage done !!

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Sidharth Khattri 12/25/12 2:21 PM
I was also seriously pissed off when I got it installed on my laptop, but i followed simple steps, removed it from every browser, used a removal software that's free(mentioned on my blog above as i thought I'd be helpful for others as well), and then searched for babylon files simply by using the search function, and it never retured back. You don't have to use such a long procedure.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Gerard Computer 12/25/12 3:16 PM
nice, it's sometimes tough if someone isn't used to working on the browser settings...like Firefox, Chrome, I.E. My normal way of doing it is simply to un install Chrome and Firefox completely (and not save settings)...then go into Internet Explorer settings (cause I can't uninstall it)
Open Internet Explorer> find "Tools" or click on little sprocket in top right.
Go To "internet options"  >   "programs" or "manage add ons" delete and or disable anything fishy like...babylon, ask, start now, bleko, incredimail....

and of course my first move is to try to uninstall anything babylon from programs list.
For a full virus removal and tune up...the do it yourself way there is a nice package at http://buy-bug-out-bag.com/computer-survival/
I put this together and it covers the stuff shown above in detail

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Patricia Stanton 12/26/12 11:08 PM
I stupidly installed Adobe Flash Player on December 15, 2012 when a reminder showed up on my computer that it needed to be updated and it has a place to check whether you wanted this new search engine or you wanted to stay with Google and I, of course, checked Google, but that is not what happened at all. I have since uninstalled this program, but am not sure how to reinstate Google???
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Stefan Hummel 12/27/12 3:19 AM
You don't need to re-install Chrome. It should be sufficient to re-set the serach options.

Chrome is just showing the symptoms, but the root cause for redirecting the search is the "browser manager".

And that can be pretty dangerous, since you have a program running of unknown source which is in control of your web traffic.

To get it clear: that piece of malware could harm your system very badly.

So it is not only about browser settings.

And one last thing:

I found it difficult to find the solution to this on the web.
What I found was:
1. Not-working pieces of malware removal software
2. People claiming to be helpful, but just eager for your money
3. Dubious software downloads potentially virulent as well

=> it is not only Babylon benefiiting from that virus. There are even more intrest groups who claim to be on your side and just want the best from you:
Your money ;-)

My daughter downloaded Minecraft and babylon seems to have come with it.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Gerard Computer 12/28/12 12:47 PM
To remove it you can go to

1. Start > Control Panel > Programs or Programs and Features or Uninstall Program

2. Highlight anything babylon or any toolbars ect..and "uninstall"

3. Now the second part is that babylon is in the browser (s)

4. Internet Explorer > Open I. Explorer > Tools > or lil sprocket in top right > Internet Options > Programs/Manage Add Ons > Remove and or Disable anything fishy like babylon, start now, ask, incredimail, bleko, ect.

5. If you want you can do a full reset of I.E, Internet Options > Advanced > Reset > Click Check mark for full reset (or whatever it says)

6. For the sake of time if it is Google Chrome or Firefox you can go into settings...they are different from I.E,

7. ...Or simply uninstall Chrome and or Firefox (without saving any settings!) and then download free Chrome or Firefox and install it fresh...not you will loose bookmarks and favorites...if you have any.

With babylon there is sometimes other stuff on the p.c like a virus for full virus removal and tune up check us out http://buy-bug-out-bag.com/computer-survival/ sorry if that's spammy but it is a very inexpensive way to speed up computer and remove viruses.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Gerard Computer 12/28/12 12:56 PM
RESPONSE TO Patricia Stanton

simply do a search for Google Chrome... remember this is a totally different "browser" than Internet Explorer...I.Explorer is the blue E that comes built into the comptuer.

The confusion is that sometimes a person will use Internet Explorer with Google as the search engine, and or home page....as opposed to MSN, or Yahoo,

So again someone can use Internet Explorer and set Google as the homepage, and search engine.

Or someone can download Google Chrome...the icon looks different from Internet Explorer and it is a different "browser"

just like Firefox, or Safari is a different browser than G Chrome.

Not sure if that made sense...below is a link to Google Chrome Browser free download and official site.
https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/

the next link is a website for virus removal and tips on speeding up computer

I then put my operating System back from 3 year old discs,(so they were not infected) I went to Norton site to re download my internet security, and when that was complete, I downloaded Chrome, and guess what? once I downloaded Chrome, there was Babylon again!! I couldn't believe it. I downloaded from google chrome site as well. Google Chrome YOU need to do something about this NOW!!!!  Please!!!!

I just down loaded chrome from google website. This time no choice given on babylon; but at least its only on chrome. Unlike last time you screwed up all my browsers. Apparently babylon search is still paying big bucks to worm onto my computer. You should be embarrassed by this tactic. Billesque. So now I can learn how to remove babylon search from chrome or more easily remove chrome and go back to firefox. Keep up the support for alternative browsers that respect my computer. Still disgusted.

I haven't been able to get rid of babylon but I have a workaround that may help others who use Chrome.

When you select a new tab, go to google within the tab. Then type your search. It works for me and when I occasionally forget, as soon as I see the babylon symbol, I close that tab and go back to google.

This note presumes that you have google search as a choice within a new tab.

- uninstalled from Add/Remove prgs,
- deleted all registry entries corresponding to Linkury and Babylon

Still the problem resides in Chrome. When I start Chrome, Babylon page opens. Please help.

just check my postings before.  It is not about browser settings . There is a piece of malware which has been installed.

I posted two comments in this forum.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Babylon Support 1/9/13 1:48 AM
Hey try to solve this manually :

•        Uninstall the Babylon in Programs and Features.
•        Check if the babylon Toolbar is still there in Tools>Manage Add-ons>Toolbars and extentions, if it still there, disable that(select and hit disable button)
•        Remove the Babylon homepage(Tools>Internet Options> general>Homepage(change it towww.google.com or use blank).
•        Check if the babylon is raising up when we open a new tab in the same window( Click on add tab in the Internet explorer)
•        if it is comming up:
•        Take a Registry Backup and follow the steps:
•        Windows+R on desktop> Type Regedit and hit ok button> Select computers> hit Ctrl+F> Type Babylon in the search box and hit "Find Next" button.
•        That brings up the Babylon registry control just Delete it(Hit Del and Enter),Search again(Just hit F3) and delete all the babylon controls.
•        Repeat the above step untill search says: "Finished Searching through the Regestry" when you hit F3.
•        Click ok button.
•        Restart the computer(Optional)

Dear Babylon,  Please remove Babylon from the internet and from our lives.  It has no value that I can see and no result other than to confuse and invade.  Anything with this much traffic and consternation about where it came from and how to remove it is clearly malware - despite whatever unscrupulous company allowed you to ride in on their small print.

Thank you.

I unfortunately have been infected with the dreaded Babylonian Search link in my startup window & have done EVERYTHING mentioned in these posts. I do know that it didn't appear until I downloaded "doubleTwist" & realized that's where I got it from when I noticed the "lnkry" in the url. Linkury is one the programs bundled with "doubleTwist" & apparently removing it from my programs wasn't enough to get rid of Babylon. I just want Google back. Not sure what else I can do besides sending "doubleTwist" a taste of their own medicine. Please help.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? grrlfang 1/21/13 10:55 AM
Babylon was fairly easy to extract from Chrome, it's firefox that makes it almost impossible to rid the browser of that insidious hijacker! Google the issue, you'll have more options to consider and reviews, threads, and detailed instructions on how to kick Babylon's ass off Chrome for good. I'm sorry, I wish I had taken a screenshot of the step by step instructions, but if I did it it wasn't that complicated!! A tech I am not. LOL!
I'm appalled that the actual google website allowed this shyte to download with Chrome! I downloaded something from CNET, vlc I believe, and "search the web with Babylon" was EVERYWHERE! Easily removed from IE and Chrome, but with firefox it get's in the registry!! I am not proficient enough to successfully remove it from firefox, so be careful when using CNET and scourgeforge (personal experience!) and as a rule, most sites that offer freeware but aren't the actual site for the software. Downloader beware, eh?
Good luck!

Hi the way to get rid of Babylon altogether is go to settings the button under the x on the right hand side of the screen when the page opens go to were it says( on start up) and were it says open a specific page or set of pages at the end of it it says set page(IN BLUE WRITING) click on that and yo will see Babylon and probs some other search engine delete Babylon  and type in at the bottom the search engine you want and that will do the trick hope this helps SEAN.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? mikesl1938 2/4/13 9:12 PM
Hey guys, it's gone way beyond that with me.  Babylon won't even let me open Chrome.  Icon acknowledges double click, then stops spinning the cursor in a few seconds.  My three uninstall programs don't see Babylon.  Babylon's all over my registry.  I downloaded a new Chrome, and Babylon prevents the install from running.  Malware, spy and Avast! anti virus don't find it.

It lets Internet Explorer operate, but changes the start page and search engine.  Looking in IE's setup, the questions to reset the start page and search engine are MISSING! from the wrench/wheel click.  I'm running Windows 7

Anyone have anything on this yet? REIMAGE will call me and run my computer remotely on Thursday, Feb 7 and promise a fix.

Lynne

Beware of Babylon Lynne - it is a mongrel to get rid of.

I suggest that you download Revo Uninstaller from:

download.cnet.com › ... › Utilities & Operating Systems › Uninstallers

and run it in Hunter Mode. Locate Babylon and click on uninstal.
When it gives you the options, it defaults at the 3rd level. Change that to the bottom (4th) level and uninstall. This will not only remove Babylon but will also remove registry entries and all files related to Babylon.
Once you have uninstalled Babylon, run your registry cleaner to make sure that all registry entries are gone.

Hi

In response to your request about wanting to know which downloads are contributing to these issues, this is what happened with me. I was looking for a codec to install so that I could see thumbnails of dng files on windows 7.

I tried installing FastPictureViewer free but what had actually downloaded and installed was FLV which would not let me continue without agreeing to install some babylon items. I meant to cancel the command but instead clicked on continue. As soon as I realised what happened I uninstalled FLV and reset what was obvious to me in chrome settings.

I did however have other issues like not having the home screen with most recent pages tabs. thanks to this post it is now resolved! I'm usually pedantic about what I download and this just affirms that in me.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Mark R. Thompson 2/24/13 7:37 PM
I have tried all these methods..deleted everything I can & still the page opens next to chrome.  I have tried deleting chrome & re-installing.  I think we need to let chrome know there are other engines that we can go to if they keep this behavior up.  Kill Babylon.  It is invasive and disruptive.

Do you know the associated names of this. Like the manufactures or something to be able to identify were it is?

This little bugger stuck me with all sorts of crap including Babylon.

That's what I get for not paying enough attention I guess.

This thing is a damn pain to get rid of though especially when all of its evil mates are installed with it.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Suvigya Agrawal 3/21/13 12:05 AM
I dunno if people found an exact solution, but this thing irritated me recently. So I'll share my way to remove it.

1. Remove the toolbar using http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html.. This help removing some leftover files and registry files.

2. After removing, make sure everything is deleted from registry. For that, please open run(Win+R) > type regedit.exe > give yes for admin permission, if it's there > then search for "babylon" in entire registry and delete each and every reference.

3. After this, open Chrome, then go to settings, in that we need to edit 3 things:
   a. On startup : In this, we need to set a home page, on start up or keep a blank, as user wishes. You'll see babylon search engine URL feeded there. Delete it.
   b. Appearance : In this, Show Home button > remove the URL from Open this URL.
   c. Manage search engine : Delete the babylon search by making Google default and then deleting the babylon one.

With these, it will be remove completely.

This isearch babylon spammy search toolbar gets whenever any website gives you torntv.exe file to run.

The worst part is I am paying Norton to show me if any download is doubtable and they cleared it with bright green light.

The culprit is torntv.exe

Thanks very much for this...it seems to have worked. I believe we got the Babylon problem when we downloaded a new edition of Skype.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Suvigya Agrawal 3/31/13 10:57 PM
Not a problem..
But I think this cannot come with Skype, because it never integrates 3rd party toolbar and search engines with it, as far as I have used, for past 7 years.
Also, it is merged with Microsoft, so chances are reduced.
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Louise Ransil 4/2/13 10:58 AM
I got stuck with Babylon Search by using the Babylon Thesaurus feature.  I look up (Google) synonyms a lot.  That takes me to a variety of thesaurus options.

I went to a lot of effort to de-install all the Babylon software.  When I used Babylon's thesaurus feature again, it all came back.

Perhaps blocking that thesaurus feature on Google will keep Google users from getting infected.

I had the same problem, everytime I opened Google Chrome it was my default page, when it should have been the Google homepage. Along with every time I went to open a new tab, it was Babylon. Even after I fixed my Set Pages,I opened a new tab it would open Babylon. Later on I discovered it was a Extention downloaded by a third party called "QuickShare Widget 1.4". After clicking the little check box to stop enabling it, everything went back to normal. -Beware of QuickShare Widget 1.4.-

People in the Forum,

Please be aware of Babylon and Webcake programs.
Mostly you won't be able to remove them from control panels using convention uninstallation.

As long as you are affected by these 2 viruses, don't do account transaction or deal with your sensitive data or type password to critical accounts on your PC.

Both the virus collects data from your PC and sales them off to 3rd party.
You might be prone to anytype of hack or fraud.

If you remove their hidden entries from the registry files, your computer will start to frequently hang/freeze.
You will start seeing frequent blue screens and finally get your PC crashed.

Please take help from professionals regarding their removal, these 2 virus are more devilish than they appear, please be aware.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Melissa Fan 7/2/13 9:48 AM
I have tried the suggestion of going through Chrome's settings and removing Babylon. This only works for one day, and when I open up my computer the next Babylon has made another reappearance.

I've done many scans with Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes, but there is no virus or malware on my computer. Every day when I open up Chrome, my homepage (MSN) appears along with Babylon Search in a different tab. When I go through settings again, Babylon is only present in the "On startup" section. I've already removed the extensions and search engines. So, I'd like to know why it keeps coming back up. It's nowhere else in my system, not even the registry keys!

Another forum suggested using OTL and aswMBR, and I have the logs for those scans but I don't understand them.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Mar M 7/2/13 5:47 PM

Set browser startup preferences

Do you start your day by checking your email or browsing a favorite website? If so, you should consider setting those sites as your startup pages. Startup pages open automatically every time you open the browser.

  1. Click the Chrome menu icon on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings. If you’re using a Chrome device, click Show advanced settings at the bottom of the page.
  3. In the “On startup” section, choose the options below:

see image
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Suvigya Agrawal 7/2/13 9:55 PM
Melissa, You can go through the steps I have mentioned. It did remove everything. You need to check out other browsers too.. Maybe something's left in them.

Mar M, your steps are a part of mine too.. but in later stages.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Melissa Fan 7/3/13 10:19 AM
I tried using your suggestion Suvigya, but the software couldn't find Babylon anywhere. I've already went through the registry keys and there's no Babylon in there. It's only found in the "On startup" section. I have it set to a specific page which is MSN, but Babylon keeps putting itself there too so I open it up.

I am going through those steps, Mar. Someone on the forum is personally helping me with my problem. So, let's just hope and see.

Thanks, but is it weird that Babylon has disappeared on its own? I've been getting rid of it each day via Chrome settings and now it's gone permanently. It's nowhere in my system or settings so I guess all that repeated removal finally cracked through?

This morning, I discovered that my Google Chrome has the same affliction. Every time I search in the address bar, Babylon Search is what pops up. I went to the control panel and there is no trace of Babylon (I uninstalled everything when I had this problem a year ago.) I went to manage search engines and lo and behold, Babylon is not there. Dear Sie_Deen. Thanks for your advice but it is no avail. My problems began after I downloaded a Babylon translator program (translation.babylon.com, I think). I carried out all your suggestions as well as using regedit, msconfig and HiJackThis to check my settings and registry. Excuse my language but this is a bastard of a virus that so effectively hides its identity on one's PC.
I note some of the graphics on this virus's search page (http://search.babylon.com/home?affID=10588&tl=gcn66989) are similar to the one which opens up a search engine for qvo6.com This last virus at least left clues of its identity in one's registry.

Sie_Deen has solved for me :D

I cleared the Setting>Search then Setting>Extension and now it's better than before.
Now I can easily type any words on new tab, in the past it would go blank with a notification (not responding).

There was videoplugin (from facebook) on Extension that makes automatic search when click a new tab.

I use Google Chrome everyday for my business.  I use Clio which operates from the cloud.  I have a "Delta" search tab and the "Babylon" tab.

I know I sound obsessive-compulsive but I just want a pure "Google" experience.  I think the appearance of these tabs is outrageous and I want to know how to get them out of Google Chrome.

It's just not good enough to say: "tell us what you signed into"  I want Google to kick some ass on this.  Slam "Delta" and "Babylon."

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Suvigya Agrawal 8/5/13 12:34 AM
Beverly, didn't get what you wanted to convey.

Walter, Delta and Babylon are customized layers over google search engine, which are built by some other developers. They integrate themselves in all the browsers available in your machine, till root level.

So in this thing, I feel no one can help or avoid, until and unless it is a paid one, not an open source code.

In this case, you will have to take extra care. :)

I'm having the same issue, its on start up and when I open a new tab.  I have already changed my start up options to go straight to google but that didnt change anything.  I recently posted a topic about this and even though my situation differs slightly my post is now linked directly to here.  This is all setting a horrible first impression for google chrome.

i still have the problem and babylon still comes up in new tab.

i had done a promo offer from www.wartune.com to download a software which in which i had removed the option to get babylon toolbar. i noticed the problem..uninstalled tat software n all components of babylon still the problem persists. i has tried to reset chrome settings also but my problem hasnt been solved

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? e1212 8/27/13 10:31 AM
For me the chrome settings didn't fix the problem completely. I had to run regedit (Start -> run -> regedit -> Edit menu -> Find -> Find what: babylon)

Then I deleted the results that appeared, and my browser searches now use google instead of babylon/yahoo

So far I think this has solved my babylon hijack problem. Thanks to all that suggested regedit.

Fixed it. After going through Malwarebytes and deleting a couple Babylon locations from the Registry, I had to delete all the default search engines (Bing, Google, and Yahoo) in Chrome. I then added back Google (and CNN as a test) search engine, set as Default, and now it works.

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Peter Corbett 8/30/13 6:25 AM
Babylon search has taken over all searches I conduct from the omnibox.  I have tried all the fixes Sie_Deen describes, but found no trace of Babylon or any suspicious extensions

For example, if I type "New York Times" in the omnibox, I am re-directed to a site with the following url:

http://us.yhs4.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?hspart=Babylon&hsimp=yhs-002&type=br112dm25&p=new%20york%20times

Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Rastislav Holecek 9/6/13 5:27 AM
THIS solved my issue:

If Babylon is opening up when you click on the Home button, check in Chrome menu (previously Wrench icon) > Settings > Appearance > select the Show Home button checkbox > check if the URL that appears below it references Babylon.

Please note that link is NOT VISIBLE unless you check the option "Display home button". After this you can remove the babylon link...

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Rastislav Holecek 9/6/13 5:34 AM
Would it be possible for Google to implement some blocking feature to Chrome, so that if its known that its spam/virus, it would not allow to install it as Chrome extension??

Or if a virus installs an extension anyways, Chrome could auto-fix itself on next startup (like update check, but rather check for browser consistence/security/etc)...

Why do we need to remove malicious link(s) from (multiple) Chrome settings manually? :) Be awesome, be google...

Cheers

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Rastislav Holecek 9/6/13 5:36 AM
In my case, Babylon DID ASK me if i want to install it and I SAID NO :)

It was installed anyways, even if checkfields were unchecked.

But I can't remember what software installer it was :(

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Suvigya Agrawal 9/6/13 5:46 AM
Rastislav,

Good to hear that you are free from the Babylon wrath :D
And when you checked on NO for install, the logic behind the installer was :

If(installCheck == NO || installCheck == YES)
IT WILL BE INSTALLED AND TROLL YOUR MACHINE..!!
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Jaguar Woman 9/6/13 10:33 AM
I have done everything possible but Babylon search is still coming up.

First I uninstalled ALL programs that were downloaded.
Second I went to the 3 bar tab and accessed Settings. At settings I adjusted the Home Page, Open specific page, deleted Babylon in Manage Search engines, made sure Google chrome is my browser, deleted cookies, emptied recycle bin and I have done this a few times and even scanned my computer but none of this is working.

How the hell do I get rid of this awful Babylon search?

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Rastislav Holecek 9/6/13 12:30 PM
Hi

- go to add/remove programs again
- uninstall google chrome
- when asked if set IE default browser say yes
- when asked if u want to remove all settings etc, say YES
- reboot
- open IE
- navigate to google.com/chrome
- install chrome again :)

Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Tim Maniei 9/9/13 6:34 PM
Here are some steps I’ve put together which should help you get rid of the Babylon Search bar.

1. Open Google Chrome Web Browser
2. On your keyboard hold down the ‘Ctrl’ button and hit ‘T’ to open up a new tab
3. Copy chrome://extensions/ and paste it into the new tab’s address bar after chrome://extensions/ is copied in, hit enter (this will bring you to your Extensions page)
4. You should be able to find Babylon Search in the list, you can disable/remove the Babylon Search extension from here – if this has not worked for you follow the steps from https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/113907?hl=en which is provided by Google themselves as to how you can remove and extension
Re: How can I uninstall the Babylon search from Chrome? Peter Corbett 9/10/13 5:33 PM
Thanks for this.  I think I've fixed it.  In my Chrome there was an extension named "Facebook ++ 2.1.2 Shortcuts for a faster Facebook navigation"  When I disabled it, the Boundary/Yahoo problem went away.  When I re-enabled it, problem came back.

Roots for Windows is its Registry. It is the heart of the OS. Any tweaks and changes affects it.

Open up chrome and go to the little three bars for settings. Open Settings > Extensions > Click the trash bin > Your done! However you might have to set your search engine again. Same thing go to settings > Scroll down to search > select google or whatever engine you use. Hope this helped a little

It wasn't until the 4th time I went over the instructions that I noticed this "extension" wasn't something I installed (it also mentions that the extension wasn't installed from the chrome store which I should've noticed).

Catherine,

This topic is actually for removing annoying Babylon Search Engine.

But as for image editors, you can Picasa, Paint(yes, default one), and you have many options to do that online too, which are totally free.

Babylon Search is a search offer that partners with a large number of software companies

who package this search tool with their programs in order to give you the option to use them for free.

This search offers allow the software developer to earn on his development and marketing effort.

In case you unexpectedly received one of these search offers by mistake,

You can uninstall them by following these instructions with no need to install any other software.

http://www.babylon.com/uninstall_search/index#chrome

These offers have a good support team who will assist you if these instructions do not solve your problem
