My Computer has the Windows 2000 Professional built on NT technology . Is the google Chrome Browser compatable with it .?

I've tried using Chrome on Windows 2000, and I am positive it will work in it. Though, you will need Windows 2000 SP4. As I tried installing it, but didn't have the latest service pack.

Well I have W2k Pro SP4 and then some (about 100 post-SP4 updates, current as of this week) and Chrome will not install on it, because the download page buttons (http://www.google.com/chrome/?hl=en) are disabled when loaded under W2K. And the installation file itself is not available for direct download it seems, so even if you have a workaround for XP-program installs, you have nothing to work with.

I've even tried copying the entire Docs & Settings Chrome program folder from an working XP install to my W2K system, it won't run.

I don't understand why this XP-capable program can't easily be allowed run on a W2K system.

What the heck is SP4  ? Where do I get it?

@hcjensen: Google is your friend. Try googling "windows 2000 sp4"

You don't even need to google it; in Internet Explorer on your W2K system, just go Tools, Windows Update.

"It may work" ... "positive it will work" -- that's good positive thinking, but HOW do you get it installed? There's no installation file to download, and their install web page disables installation if viewing from a W2K system.

I have Win2K SP4 and even when downloaded the install file dosnt let me install, it moans about incompatible OS.

Sadly the people in charge of Chrome are utter morons. Chrome does indeed work in Windows 2000 (provided you install Service Pack 4 plus another hotfix).

There is no technical reason for it not to run on Win2k, yet both the web page and the installer check the OS version and discriminate against it.

2. why not link to the .exe files directly?
3. why make people go through the bloody EULA instead of showing it as part of the install process like every other software on Earth?
