Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Ninja of the Interwebs 4/1/12 9:53 AM
I love Google Chrome, don't get me wrong. But, sometimes as I randomly surf the "interwebs" I'll have roughly four or five tabs open. As I attempt to switch tabs, no matter where I click on the tab, it'll close it. I don't even get a "Are you sure you want to leave this page" if I'm doing something important. And if I try to go back one page in my history, It'll open that one page in a new tab.

It also makes my toolbar on my computer useless, I can't exit out of it.
This never happened to me on any other browser. I can't even click the minimize button nor the options button or anything else.

I have no extension on chrome...Help?

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. wár17 § 4/1/12 10:01 AM
You can close on tab if you click on the x at the right of the tab.

What toolbar are you referring to? Chrome does not have much of a toolbar.  The settings are under Wrench icon.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Ninja of the Interwebs 4/1/12 10:04 AM
I know that, I'm not new to the internet. The point is, if I click anywhere on the tab I want to go to, it closes it. I don't even have to be near the "x".

The toolbar I'm referring to is not a part of Google chrome. It's the bar on the bottom of your screen where you can see what windows you have open and other various doodads.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. wár17 § 4/1/12 10:16 AM
If you accidentally close a tab, hit Ctrl + Shift + T to open up the same tab again.

You are saying that Chrome browser is freezing your Windows taskbar or covering it up?  Does other program do that?  Hit F11 to take you out of full screen mode and see your taskbar again.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. †Tommy G.† 4/1/12 4:46 PM
Chrome thinks you are middle clicking.  Try a different mouse and test.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Ninja of the Interwebs 4/1/12 5:54 PM
I just did.

Both my tablet and my other mouse didn't fix the problem.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. †Tommy G.† 4/1/12 5:56 PM
For some users, just shutting down your machine completely, waiting a few minutes, then rebooting, has solved this problem.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. PDX photoman 5/3/12 9:16 AM
I agree that this is a problem. The suggestion to shut down your computer works ... but only for this session. It will recur. On a Wacom tablet, changing to the pen has no effect. Nor does using the right mouse button. There is a glitch in the program somewhere.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. caver_tim 5/3/12 12:01 PM
So this is normally caused when chrome thinks you have a right mouse button held down. when you click with the left this = both which is used to simulate a middle click.
This closes tabs when you click on them, means the wrench menu does not work etc
normally affects people with a laptop with a touch pad with 2 buttons

most people who report this can clear it by clicking a few times left, a few times right and maybe both.
This seems to clear the belief that the right mouse is down.

There have been suggestions that some track pad or mouse drivers are more prone to this than others

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. PDX photoman 5/3/12 1:02 PM
I use a Wacom Intuos 3 and have not had this problem until this week. It followed installation of Acronis True Image 12. The problem seems to manifest itself after I've awakened the computer from sleep state.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. jsugumar 5/14/12 5:52 PM
Even i have the same problem, left click on a tab in google chrome closes it. The back button on the toolbar opens a new tab!!
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. PDX photoman 5/14/12 5:59 PM
My problem seems to have evaporated since upgrading my Wacom driver and rebooting. I had upgraded the driver before without rebooting, but this extra step seems to have solved the problem.

see my post above.
Also if  you have a wireless mouse, try changing or charging the batteries
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Ninja of the Interwebs 5/15/12 6:47 AM
I did that. Nothing new happened. I also got an app that lets my iPod act as a computer mouse and Chrome still acts funny.

I think it's how the program/coding reacts to computers that's the problem.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. rossmcm 5/22/12 5:22 AM
I have had this occurring as well.  I'm pretty sure its because my mouse (Logitech wireless) is suffering from contact bounce, and when I click it once, it actually generates 2 clicks, and the tab I clicked on closes.

I didn't realise double-clicking a tab in Chrome closed it until I read this thread.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. ianrey 5/30/12 8:55 AM
Also happens to me, I also have a Logitech wireless, and I agree it is reacting to one click as a double click.  I think this is a hardware problem for me, not software.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. stevenam 6/4/12 2:34 PM
Hey I just got the solution.... the same thing was happening to mine.... I have a mouse (wireless, but I don't think being wireless was the problem). it is the mouse with the know, wheel (whatever it is called) in the center between the right and left click. for some reason it actual prevents the mouse from doing its job if pressed to long.... after a hour or two when I was out of option... I thought of clicking on the wheel... and bam chrome started working and everything went back to the way it suppose to work..... so the cause of the problem lies with the mouse I would say.... not anything that have to do with chrome or the setting.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. shmstech 6/13/12 4:51 AM
Had the same problem using Windows 7, Chrome 19.0.1084.56 and Lenovo thinkcenter M90z w/ Lenovo Keyboard + Mouse.  I do not believe this is a hardware problem.

After testing, I found that Chrome thought I was holding the right mouse button when I wasen't, causing a single left click to close tabs.  I was able to reproduce the issue reliably in Chrome, but testing this against other "Middle Mouse Button" (or, right + left button) aware applications did not reflect that I had the right mouse button down.  Chrome seems to be using it's own "On Click" event management to sense mouse clicks instead of using the OS.  This is a buggy way to manage mouse events, but makes sense knowing how OS independant the rest of Chrome is.

To solve the issue without rebooting, just double right click a few times anywhere within your chrome session, this allows chrome to see that you're no longer holding right mouse button down.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. RJ85 6/19/12 6:21 PM
It doesn't work.  I tried what you did with my laptop.  I have a Toshiba Qosmio X500 series laptop.  It's got those buttons on the side that automatically react when touched.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. madiha90 6/20/12 8:18 AM
I used to get that problem all the time and now whenever i get it i click the left and right together a couple of times it resolves the issue.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. MindyBot 6/23/12 5:38 PM
Thanks so much! I had the SAME problem with a wired logitech mouse. I just clicked the wheel, scrolled up and down and just like you said, it went back to normal!!

Just had the same issue with my HP laptop and Lenovo wired mouse.  My scroll wheel was the problem.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. ally1410 7/4/12 12:10 AM
i have tried clicking on a tab in chrome and closes . i use the laptop pad  and the issues doesn't come with I.E ........so i believe it's a software issue
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. ally1410 7/4/12 12:16 AM
i have also re-installed chrome too ........issues still persists
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. caver_tim 7/4/12 12:30 AM
reinstalling will not help.
chrome thinks you've got a mouse butotn held down.
have you tried swapping mouse or clicking to convince chrome that the button is not held down?
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. mporsuk 7/5/12 3:14 PM
My scroll wheel also solved the question, I have Win7, Logitech mouse, I was not using the mouse it was turned off but the problem happened then I opened The mouse and scroll up down and click everywhere then it solved.

Thanks

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Agent 3o6 7/10/12 12:55 AM
If you are currently using a laptop computer with a mouse pad consisting of just two mouse buttons (i.e left mouse click and right mouse click), then it is probably a driver failure. Here are a few steps that helped me to recover from this very problem.

(Warning! Please do not try these procedures if you do not have the basic idea of using a computer via only a keyboard!)

1. Open control panel and open up mouse settings

2. Go to "Device Settings" tab (this is the tab where all the driver configurations can be altered, which is also the last tab in most cases)

3. Click "Disable" or any similar button (this depends on the type of mouse pad and its relative driver)

Now your system will request for a reboot. If it does not, perform a manual reboot. After system reboots, you mouse pointer will not be visible anymore (as we disabled it earlier).

4. When the system has settled to an idle condition, open control panel once again by using the keyboard. (Start button > control panel)

5. Open "Device Manager" and you should be able to see an exclamation icon next to the mouse pad hardware name.

6. Scroll down until the the relative item is selected by using the navigation keys (arrow keys)

7. Press the menu key (next to right ALT key in most keyboards) and a menu will pop up. Select "Enable" option and manually reboot you system.

Next time you systems boots up, you problem should be solved. If not, I recommend you acquire assistance from a professional at this field :)

Seeing this as well. Very annoying.

Using a Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical (http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-D66-00029-Wheel-Mouse-Optical/dp/B00006B7HB).

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. neilgoldman305 7/14/12 1:00 PM
Even worse, it does it when I either right or left click a tab. Spamming the mouse buttons doesn't make it work again either.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Kru1552 7/14/12 9:05 PM
I know exactly what you mean. I also can't open my settings/tool options to see if i accidently made any changes.

I have the problem without even having a mouse.. and no right and left buttons on my touch pod + no wheel :) :/ Now what?
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. nelsonl. 7/27/12 4:52 PM
to make this go away, go to your settings, click show advanced settings and unclick the "use web service to help resolve navigation errors" i had the same problem and it fixed it for me.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Jerioke 8/4/12 11:33 AM
I also had this problem today. This was the first time that has happened to me with chrome. I was unable to load settings without using Alt+F because clicking didn't do anything. Clicking back opened the page in a new tab which I would left click and it would close. None of my bookmark bar folders would open, but left clicking a bookmark that did not belong to a folder would open it in a new tab which would then close when I clicked to go to it. Clicking inside of a website would work as per normal. Clicking in any other browser would also work as normal. Clearly a problem in chrome.

I decided to try left clicking my extension/addon buttons and they would work fine. I then middle clicked them and finally right clicked them.

Surprise! Everything works fine again. I believe that just the action of using the other mouse buttons within the menu/navigation zone of the browser was enough to reset it.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Merlin333 8/10/12 4:15 PM
I had the problem. It is completely eliminated. When I installed
windows7 for fun I activated the pop-up keyboard. I never actually
used it. In the most recent iteration of Chrome I encountered the
"tab-closes-on-click" bug.

I eliminated the bug by turning off the pop-up keyboard window uses.

The problem is gone on my laptop!

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Kewell74 8/13/12 8:04 AM
I am convinced this is a mouse problem, bcos I design games using a game programming language and noticed that the mouse clicks are showing up different codes then normal for left button click, right button click etc today.. Then when I use google chrome, the tab dsaapears as well. However yesterday, I did not have the problem.. Am sure that shutting down and rebooting will resolve it.. Will try that later..SO in conclusion, not chrome problem but Windows XP's communication protocol with its input devices..
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. the kevin bates 8/14/12 5:33 AM
This worked for me.  Left clicked, then right clicked and then middle clicked about a dozen times: went back to normal behavior.

Sticky keys on a mouse or trackpad?

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. IK THE ANSWER LOL 8/29/12 11:00 AM
I used auto clicker, used the middle click button to click everywhere then stopped and it worked fine, wasted hours on finding the answer, but came up with auto clicker all by myself O:)
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. consigliere1 9/21/12 12:54 PM
i have the exact same problem.  i have a brand new asus laptop with win 7, ive restarted, reinstalled chrome, restarted my laptop, and this problem cannot be fixed no matter what i do.  ive tried external mouses. ive even reformatted my entire computer for another reason and re-installed windows and its the same issue.  if i click on a tab in crome the tab will close.  see this video i made:  http://screencast.com/t/ugFo8otBJ6

anyways, I AM GOING TO STOP USING CHROME UNTIL THEY FIX THIS PROBLEM.  its not just my computer either.  a few members of my family also have this issue and its a pain to deal with and its impossible to get help from anyone at Chrome to get it fixed.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Joshua0853 9/28/12 10:42 PM
I don't know if this is a Google Chrome problem or a "mouse" problem overall, but I had the same problem today. I read somewhere that the browser "thinks" the middle mouse button is being clicked, which will close the tab. After clicking all three buttons multiple times, the problem vanished for me. Worth a try!

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Richard Andrews 10/3/12 4:36 AM
I also had this problem and found that clicking right, left amd middle buttons randomly a few times makes it work again and also pressing ctrl-alt-del and selecting task manager and then closing task manager resolves the problem. I have also un-ticked the above option in settings but have not used it long enough to see if that stops the problem coming back.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. PONPONPON 10/3/12 9:35 AM
When that happens to me, I open a new tab, and middle click it. then the left click works fine! I hope this was helpful ^-^ And good luck!

yep it worked for me!  It was because my wireless mouse was turned on in my bag.  When I took it out it stopped closing tabs because i think the right mouse button was held down!

This has been going on for at least five months.  Solutions offered work for some people, not for others.  Why doesn't Google fix it?

There are other bugs in Chrome but I don't want to take the time to describe them.

I've switched to Firefox.  It's not without bugs, but so far it's better than Chrome.

It happens to me too. Very frustrating indeed. Even after closing it and reopening it still acts this way. I can't for the life of me understand why!
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Xiao Gu 10/26/12 1:42 PM
this problem happened to me also after waking up the laptop from sleep.
seems to be caused by a stuck key probably being held down the instant before entering the sleep mode.

after tried many keys, the guilty one seems to be the mouse wheel button.
by click it few times, it solves the problem.

TL;DR :
Click mouse wheel fix it
holding down mouse wheel and click on a tab closes it

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Laxila 10/31/12 2:47 AM
Having the problems since yesterday without changing anything in the last few month. This is VERY annoying. I tried few of the solutions mentioned here, nothing worked. Downloaded FF, no problem at all. I like Chrome and I want to keep it, I just cant because its impossible to work under those circumstances.
Hope you guys find the problem soon and I can swith back.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. rmandrews36 10/31/12 2:54 AM
You should just need to press the middle button/wheel of the mouse and the problem will right itself, there seems to be a problem whereby if you press the middle button it freezes everything up. i have found that randomly pressing the mouse buttons frees it up again. hope this helps
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Laxila 10/31/12 3:06 AM
Thanks but it does not. I tried all "solutions" mentioned here and right now the only solution is FF as i dont have the time to "play" with a browser at work. Oh my !

Sometimes things go wrong and you need to do a little work to fix them.
At some point you'll run out of browsers if you swap whenever the one you're using has a problem :-)

Hmm...I wonder if it's an issue after resume-from-standby or resume-from-hibernate with the Synaptics touchpad driver.  Left-clicking on the menu button didn't work for me either...it took a reboot to fix the issue.

Lenovo ThinkPad W520 with Win7-64 here.  Will post if I can reproduce again.

okay, this whole thing is really starting to make me mad. i do the left click, then middle click then right click, and NOTHING happens. Ive always told people that chrome never works. and this just helps prove my point unless someone has a legitimate solution
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. caver_tim 11/13/12 2:41 PM
sometimes it takes more that one click for chrome to notice you're not holding down the button

It could also be that your wireless mouse batteries need replacing

a couple of people find its a problem with their mouse drivers.
One person recently found he only had this problem when he'd plugged in a graphics tablet

"chrome never works" perhaps "chrome normally works, but for some people they end up with a system that just has that one in a million conflict and it fails to work"

I was having this exact problem (thats how i found this)

Clicking a tab would close it....and clicking back opened a new tab,

I just the held the middle button down on my mouse for a couple seconds.

Must be a little worn from all that scrolling.

Fixed it.

I Googled this problem extensively and NO ONE seems to have a fix. Well, changing from a Logitech to a Razer Mouse fixed it for me. I have had no issues at all in over two days while using this mouse and I had it happen with several Logitech mice. Good luck!
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. caver_tim 12/12/12 7:22 AM
This has been around for a long time and its been discussed a lot.

the problem is that Chrome thinks you're clicking on the tabs with the middle mouse button.
why? well it seems that chrome thinks you've got the right mouse button stuck down. that way a left click is seen as a click with both which is used to simulate a middle click.

Note i said that chrome thinks you've got the right mouse button stuck down. You might not, especially if other software is not having problems.
Fixes:
  • change the batteries in wireless mouse
  • swap to a different mouse
  • click a lot in the title bar or new tab icon areas with , left, right, middle / scroll wheel to convince chrome you're not holding down the right mouse button
  • sometimes a simple reboot helps
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Jeff Baylor 12/12/12 10:12 AM
This is not technically a Chrome issue, but given that there is a high likelihood of user (in my case) or hardware error, it would be nice to have a change in functionality or a user customization option.

A very satisfying solution for me would be to allow users to control how Chrome interprets a middle mouse button click on a tab.  My preference would be for it to ignore them.  I use ctrl-w to close tabs, so it never occurred to me to try the middle mouse button until I started hitting it accidentally on this new laptop (it lacks tactile indicators for the buttons).

I understand that many mouse drivers can change what event they send.  My track pad buttons are not customization on a per application basis and I need the middle mouse button click event for other apps.

Does anyone know if there is a customization option?  I am fine with hacks.

Thanks!

I have experienced this issue intermittently and usually reboot to clear it.  I found that this tip worked....

click a lot in the title bar or new tab icon areas with , left, right, middle / scroll wheel to convince chrome you're not holding down the right mouse button

...at least this time.  :-)  Thank you for the tip!

It happens to me all the time in Windows 8 64 bit on a vaio laptop. Very frustrating, but once I hold both mouse buttons down for a moment, the problem goes away for a while...
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. DaEMoN TReX 2/9/13 10:03 PM
Must be a mouse problem, just unplug the usb and plug the usb in your mouse (if you have usb mouse) or unplug and plug the wire (if you have wire mouse).
It works for me, but I don't know if it works for other peeps.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Vinas 2/12/13 1:01 PM
Turns out that the trackpad is multi-touch. Some how the OS was thinking that (I presume) the middle mouse button was held, even though the track pad has no middle mouse. Anyway, disabling the mouse "edge" gestures seems to have fixed the issue so far.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Jan Polatschek 2/17/13 2:04 AM
I clicked each side a few times....Did not help.  I disconnected the wireless mouse and then reconnected.   This solved the problem.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Ninja of the Interwebs 2/17/13 7:57 AM
Chrome freezes it, sometimes I can't open the task manager even. Its not in fullscreen, I dislike fullscreen.
I tend to try to not use other browsers, IE is terrible on my old machine (plus my mother downloaded about 20 attachments for it so it's incredibly slow).
I asked Best Buy but the Computer Services technician looked at me like I was stupid and that I should just avoid the "x". Urg.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Martin Graupner 2/22/13 4:04 AM
I switched mouse and had the same problem of tab closing on left mouse click. The tip to click the mouse buttons a couple of times left and then a couple of times right solved the problem.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. zants 2/24/13 2:42 AM
Personally what just solved it for me (advice from Yahoo Answers surprisingly) was using my laptop's trackpad and scrolling up/down the page, then everything was fixed.  Apparently the trackpad was stuck in a scrolling (middle-click) mode, so everything I clicked with my mouse was being middle-clicked (and thus closed or unable to open).
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. tamawlee 2/25/13 5:46 PM
Had this exact same problem. Personally what worked for me was this:

left click off screen several times, right click off screen several times, then kinda hold left and right click down.  It worked for me after I just fiddle with the mouse like that.

@JonasPalm: Maybe your Chrome is messed up, mine workes fine. Maybe try uninstalling it and re-intalling it. That usually fixes any problems. Also, make sure you have your google chrome up-to-date.

Some people just don't like google.

Fist off all I wanna say I Love Google and have had Gmail since they started.
I also had Googlewave, Buzz, and lately Google+ Non off witch worked.

Google is probably desperate when they are incorporating every thing to Chrome
(from the beginning a really good browser ) google+ witch nobody wants. And such things as pictures sync , loggin, keys/codes, and a lot of other function. Are impossible to config correct in a easy way. Therefore after several mail to google, without any response or action from there side. I decided I want to feel I are in control over my pictures some where I have intercourse with my wife , and my codes to my bank,Imossible to log of from public computer, Google sync Bookmarks on friend or public computer  and on and on.

I decided to get a safe easy configured web browser instead

it is funny, I had same problem on my beloved chrome, and many says that it was a hardware problem and I HAVE NO MOUSE or WIRELESS MOUSE near my laptop at least for 1 month. I've tried to download other version of chrome (chromium portable) since I think it is because I delete some registry on cleaning purpose ( I might wrong deleting something useful) but new installed chromium just act the same ..the tab closed when i want to select it.
I'm thinking to reboot my laptop...please if anyone had same problem and solved post it here

thanks

I am also having this problem. After reading through the responses, I finally realized that the wheel on my Logitech Performance MX is stuck, probably due to it falling  far too often. I opened the Logitech software, re-assigned the middle button to the "Other" function: Unassigned, applied the change, and instantly solved the problem. Hope this helps.

Hey guys, I had the same problem and it was the hardware and especially the center  wheel of the mouse. The simple solution was that I "hit" the wheel a few times and the problem was solved! (Make sure that the wheel clicks when you "hit" it) ^^

Nope. I mean the toolbar as in the bar across the bottom of the screen and not attached to the web browser.

I don't think google Chrome has taskbars. Well, not to the extent of IE.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. rudysloup 5/18/13 10:40 PM
I just recently had this issue but I have been having other mouse issues so I thought I would let people know. It appears there is some very strange issue with  mice in windows, now it may be just logitech mice. But lets make sure we separate issues.

There are many reasons why you may have a bad mouse and it would cause these problems. Most of those people will easily solve this by messing with the mouse or switching it for a new one. I am not talking to you people.

I am going to focus on the people who have tried switching mice and everything. There appears to be some problem caused by a driver, or perhaps the motherboard that causes issues with USB mice. And the symptoms can be sparatic and very weird, it can depend on what program you are in. My symptoms are like this.

When I first turn the computer on and log in to windows I cannot click on the icon with the mouse, I am forced to use the keyboard. But once I get into windows I can use most things with the mouse just fine. However oddly, I cannot use the scroll wheel in internet explorer, but in chrome I have this problem with the tabs closing. Sometimes the mouse seems to get jammed up and cant click anything, but if I CRTL ALT DELETE, I can get the mouse working for most things, but it never fixes the problems with login.

System:
Windows 7 x64
16 GB ram on a sandy bridge based system with p67 motherboard.
Logitech g500 mouse (problem also occurs with a G400) so far no mouse works. Yet these mice work on other machines.
I am having a major problem with my mouse, all mice, which all happen to be Logitech do this on my computer.
First when windows starts at the login screen I cannot click anything. Hovering over things seems to have no effect. If I click on something it starts to depress but never finishes the click. Do you understand that, its sort of like when you press a button in windows and it depresses but you do not let up on the mouse to finish the action. Instead you slide off the button.
So I use the keyboard to navigate which works fine. Nothing appears to be frozen.
When entering windows behavior can seem a little erratic but something are very consistent. For instance scrolling with the mouse wheel does not work at all in internet explorer. Yet oddly it does work when looking around the settings in internet explorer, yet the mouse scrolls fine in MS word. I cannot click on anything in the Logitech gaming software at all. Every so often I seem to not be able to click on anything in my second monitor. I think that the mouse wheel does not work in one direction in tribes ascend.
I have tried:
Updating the Logitech software to the latest software listed on the G500 website
Windows restore to 2 different points
Clearing CMOS
Moving the mouse to different USB ports in different locations (ie probably not the same controller)
I tried to update the bios and it did not help, I went into bios and changed 3 different USB settings.
disable usb 3.0 support, disabled legacy support and one other setting none of it fixed the problem.

Running in safe mode appears to fix the problem, at least at the login screen. Is it possible NVidia drivers could cause this?

Its a P8P67-LE motherboard.

I will also say that I recently added a light boost capable monitor is anyone else with a similar problem trying to run lightboost?

So far I have yet to solve this problem and am close to doing a reformat.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Bruce Narasin 6/9/13 2:19 PM
Yes! Thanks Steve this worked. I tried all of the other suggestions with no joy. It seems that the wheel-in-the middle gets "stuck" and alters the command sensed from left (or right) mouse button clicks. Oddly enough, it only presents a problem in Chrome. Everywhere else, the left & right mouse button work fine, but in Chrome it didn't. I alternately clicked the wheel, tried the buttons; until the left & right mouse buttons started working.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Lisa Bender 6/14/13 2:16 PM
Clicking once on the wheel (in the middle of the mouse) clears the problem.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Matthew Lowis 7/25/13 4:48 PM
Your middle mouse button is messed up. Was happening to me after I stupidly spilled water on my mouse. I used software to disable my middle mouse click and my problem went away. However, for now, I have no middle mouse button. This also solved not being able to click on open programs in Windows. It was not a virus, for me at least.

I just faced the same problem. My laptop was on for a long time after which it went into hibernation. I powered it up again and started using chrome and all y tabs would just close.

I pressed the both left and right click simultaneously a couple of times because that acts as the middle button and the problem was solved!

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Steve Fishburn 8/13/13 5:32 PM
When this happened to me, clicking the middle/wheel button fixed the issue.  I do assume people are correct about this being an issue between the mouse and chrome.  Chrome for some reason thinks your are using the wheel instead of a left click.  For me simply clicking the wheel once returned things back to normal.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Matthew Kochis 8/15/13 11:35 PM
Thanks for the post.  Had mouse in the laptop bag and must have been pressed against the wheel button.  Clicked the wheel once and the scroll circle came up, clicked again to have it go away, then the mouse worked normal.  Thanks again.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Jefferson Carpenter 8/16/13 8:01 AM
I get those same symptoms in Chrome.  When I left or right click a tab, it closes.  When I hit the back button, it opens a new tab.  I can't click on any other windows, or on my taskbar.

I've been getting this problem on both of my Windows 8 computers, regardless of what mouse I use, and even if I just use my laptop's touchpad.

For me this problem is not chrome-specific.

My computer will randomly decide to only let me click on one window.  When that window is a chrome window, I get the chrome-specific symptoms described above.  When that window isn't chrome, I still can't click on my taskbar or on any other windows.

I can usually fix it by hitting ctrl+alt+delete and left clicking once.  But then the problem comes right back.

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Saptarshi Nath 8/25/13 1:42 AM
I am facing the same issue, I doubt it is the mouse because using the touchpad on my laptop gives the same result (closes the tab).

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. caver_tim 8/26/13 12:20 PM
no it may not be an actual problem with your mouse...
try it,...

Sometimes a reboot makes it go away
Sometimes a different mouse helps
If you have a wireless mouse, try changing the batteries
If none of the above helps, then people have found that clicking lots of times with the left, then right then both and middle (mouse wheel) can clear this "stuck button". click within the chrome window. try over the new tab button

Just click the middle mouse button....it gets stuck causing the browser to close...

You can also smack the mouse a few times... :)
this also helps...

Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. Billy Schorn 9/2/13 1:34 AM
It's the middle mouse button...
Try this...Hold middle mouse button, now left click on the tab....it will close...

so click or hit the middle mouse button...it's stuck...
things will work after that...

cheers

I'm adding to the success with the mouse middle wheel click, this fixed it instantly; I couldn't figure it out because I had since unplugged my logitech mouse from the laptop (clicking with both sides of the trackpad did nothing). Plugged it back in, clicked with the wheel, and bam: back to normal.
Re: Some times when I click a tab on chrome, it closes it. julieb202 9/23/13 7:40 AM
I have been struggling with this issue all day, but refused to accept that it was the mouse as it was still doing it when I unplugged the mouse. However after lots of uninstalling and system restores I finally accepted that it was the mouse. I don't know how it did it but it would still cause the issue when it was unplugged and I was using the touchpad, but as soon as I plugged the mouse into another laptop it did it on that one. So, unplug the mouse and throw it away. Then restart your laptop, use another mouse and it will be fine:)
