|Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||x-shaney-x||10/28/11 1:35 PM|
Before upgrading to Chrome 15, I had 4 sites pinned and the other 4 slots left for most used sites.
After the upgrade, the pinned sites are still pinned but I am unable to pin new ones?
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||†Tommy G.†||10/28/11 5:50 PM|
The pinheads at Chrome, removed the ability to pin.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||virusavatar||10/28/11 8:46 PM|
Google has done it again, they change stuff without asking who REALLY wants it. It sucks, give me my old layout back with your new animations and UI if you want, and while you're at it, throw in the ability to PIN THE TABS YOU WANT to your new page layout. I hate this crap about most visited, I don't visit XE.com everyday, yet I want to click it WHENEVER I NEED IT.
Listen to your users please Google...
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||SENSINATI0N||10/29/11 3:30 AM|
Why the hell I can't pin the pages any more????? What is the point of this page if I can't pin web pages I like ??? Oh and NO I don't want your crappy Apps!!! And what's with the huge bar at the bottom???? It is really annoying, as it's always there and no matter what theme I choose it's always grey. Fuck you Google, that's it!!! I'm installing Firefox, bye....
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||x-shaney-x||10/29/11 10:21 AM|
The only way seems to be to create a new page and drag links to it, thus creating a "favourites" page.
It only creates icons instead of thumbnails though.
Sorry if this reply appears several times in various forms but I keep posting but next time I look it's gone again.

We would like to hear more from you about what you think about the new tab page in Chrome 15 (15.0.874.106 m). Please send us your feedback by taking a short survey in Ref below.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||x-shaney-x||11/1/11 12:57 PM|
@ Sie Deen
You have marked this as the best answer but it doesn't answer anything.
The "survey" just takes me to the main forum page and it won't even let me mark the answer as unhelpful.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||x-shaney-x||11/1/11 1:01 PM|
The only feedback you need is that pinning should NOT have been disabled and it needs to be brought back ASAP!
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||Oakden||11/3/11 4:47 PM|
I agree with everyone else. Pinning should not have been taken away!!!
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||ManasTheMarveL||11/3/11 10:00 PM|
You can not pin the thumbnails like you used to do in Chrome 14 and earlier, but you can still pin your favorite sites as an App.
1. Drag a thumbnail to the bottom bar where two thick lines "most visited" and "Apps" are present.
2. When you drag there, a 3rd line appears, which takes you to a new page for pinning apps.
3. Release the dragged thumbnail there, the site will be pinned in the 3rd page as an app.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||shaneydroid||11/4/11 2:22 AM|
I know that but the sites are then shown as a little box with no thumbnail, just a small site icon in the box.
Not exactly "at a glance".
I don't see what the problem is with having the new tab page as it is now but simply allow pinning as before.
Why is that so difficult?
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||RalphWhitnall||11/8/11 3:31 AM|
Please reinstate the pin function and the drag and drop function on the new tab page. These are such useful tools! Why is an update acting to degrade by removing features?!
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||Sie_Deen||11/8/11 9:39 AM|
Thank you for all your feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to complete the quick survey, and will take all your feedback into consideration as we continue to work on the new tab page to make it a better experience for you.
As @ManasTheMarveL has mentioned, I wanted to chime in that you can create your own personalized section by adding any most visited sites, favorite apps, most used bookmarks all into a single section so that you can view them all together.
- Simply drag a most visited thumbnail or app into a new section.
- Or drag a bookmark from the bookmarks bar into the new section.
- You can also add an existing tab that you have open, by clicking on the favicon (from the address bar of the existing tab you wish to add), dragging it into the new tab page, and dropping it in your new personalized section.
To find out more about what you can do in the new tab page, please refer to Ref below.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||nice2bme||11/9/11 10:40 AM|
No one has commented on it but I hate having to flip pages to get my most used apps and most visited pages. I am not exactly sure how the new look is an improvement - its taken away functionalities while simultaneously complicating what was essentially a very clean and elegant design.

bring back the pinning!!!!!!
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||AK1309||11/17/11 3:37 AM|
Bring back Pinning !!!! And don't update without asking !!!
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||Chutoy22||11/18/11 7:02 AM|
I'm am too frustrated that Google decided to removing the pinning function from their new tab home page, but I found the fix all end all. Install this extension, and it'll solve most of your complainants until Google brings back the pins. Its called 'speed dial," and you can add your favorite sites in addition to change the number of tabs you want in the home page.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||RawringTaters||11/20/11 7:59 PM|
I'm annoyed by the fact that I also can not re arrange the tabs. I have to delete all and then go through a ton of sites to get them where I want.
But I am very very upset about the lack of pin. It means that at times my browser changes certain ones and I have to take a ton of time to search through :| Change it back.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||Mwewe||11/26/11 3:23 PM|
Hi. I'm using Chrome version 15.0.874.121 and I'm not seeing these complaints at all. I right-click a tab and the "pin tab" option is there and it works. Also, re-arranging the tabs works here too, I can drag them into any order I want, drag them off the tab bar and they become a new window, and I can drag a window into the tab bar and it becomes a new tab. Am I doing something wrong?
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||fbgamewolf||12/15/11 2:54 PM|
I used pinning constantly. Bring it back. Not only do I want the sites *I* want pinned to my new tab page, but it was really handy if I had to reference a site frequently for a while but then didn't need it any more. I could pin it, use if handily & then delete it when I was done. Now I have to wait for it to show up in the new tab page & by that time it may be too late to be useful. Not to mention I want the google search home page pinned to my new tab page & no matter how often I type in the URL it does not show on the new tab page. I detest searching from the location bar. I should have the option to pin the google search home page and any other page I want.
Bring back pinning *now*.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||BornAProphet||12/21/11 4:33 AM|
I removed some of my pages to add new ones and realized I can't pin them. I have well over 100 bookmarks in various folders, having to go through them all to find the site I want to visit sucks, Not having a warning that it's going to happen sucks. Microsoft at least warns you and has a advocacy group that helps to make decisions. Maybe Google should consider that. Google used to be badass now it seems like your trying to mimic other search engines. Its not necessary. Keep it simple and give us back ability to pin our pages, The new "New Tab" sucks. That's what I think. Maybe you can win back most visited site from Facebook if people can actually get to it off of Google?
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||ekelks||12/24/11 5:53 PM|
Also, as a user with MS who has difficulty with my hands, I find being forced to use two hands to drag and drop extremely maddening. PLEASE bring back the simple thumbtack pins. Please.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||robgambrill||12/30/11 12:29 PM|
Really was shocked that pins were removed. That was one of my favorite features. Hope they bring pins back.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||Robricebooks||1/2/12 2:51 PM|
Please bring back the ability to pin sites to the Chrome home page. It was elegantly simple, very handy, and you wouldn't have all this smoke about it if there wasn't a fire of surprise and unhappiness about the unasked-for change.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||3dZiggy||1/12/12 1:20 PM|
Cear and simple, if Google has any good reason to remove the pinnig feature, it will probably be related to advertising/tracking your moves.
If they do have a good reason I would expect to see it mentioned and explained by a google employee.
If they do not have a good reason, ...they should just put it back in!!!!!
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||3dZiggy||1/12/12 1:25 PM|
By the way, this page has a stupid mistake built in as well. want to edit your reply? click "edit" and see you only have the choice to remove it????
"Remove" would be a better text on the button, since there are no other choices!
I expect an "edit"button to open the possibility to EDIT !!!!!
It seems that the crisis is hitting google so hard they have to let apprentices do the layout of chrome...
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||shaneydroid||1/15/12 4:28 AM|
Well it looks like the new style tab page is here to stay whether we like it or not.
They keep pointing to the fact we can drag websites to the new tab page and have a mix of apps/websites etc.
While the apps look very nice with a shiny icon and title (Gmail for example, the gmail logo with "Gmail" printed neatly beneath it).
So then I drag a website I want to keep next to it, I just have a box with a tiny favicon in the corner and a cutoff web address beneath it.
It looks terrible, I can't configure how many of these boxes I want (2 rows of 4 like the most visited page, for example), I can't edit the title, I can't choose to have a thumbail or even choose an icon for it.
THE NEW TAB PAGE IS RUBBISH AND SHOULD HAVE CHOICES TO SUIT EVERYONE
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||BNRBranding||1/21/12 6:54 PM|
There is a solution that seems to be working pretty well for me so far. You can drag bookmarks to the apps section. I just put everything I wanted on that page, and it supports up to 12 shortcuts if you put your apps in another sections. You can't start a new section with a bookmark though, you have to use an app to get it started then you can arrange bookmarks and apps on separate sections.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||Trenzer||2/19/12 3:53 AM|
Although they should enable pinning again, another solution is using a nice extension!
Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for 'new tab', you'll find several extensions for creating a personalized 'new tab'.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||shaneydroid||2/19/12 7:36 AM|
The problem with many extension alternatives is that they have something in the address bar so you can't just open a tab and start typing to search.
I can't help thinking the whole point of this exercise is to force people into using apps (or shortcuts as apps).
Just keep them separate and give us pinning back.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||steppres||3/29/12 4:51 AM|
Yes. They removed the ability to pin sites. It mades sense, mostly because I prefer to have things like Gmail, and YouTube on my NTP as opposed to COCK HUNGRY TRANNY SLUTS TAKE IT UP THE ASS and GAY CUM INTERACIAL GANGBANGS thumbnails littering the new tab screen. Being able to pin all 8 sites meant I didn't have to worry about that happening.
Apparently having tiny, ugly icons is "better", or something. From what I heard, the next version of Chrome will do away with the new tab page and have your Google+ profile there instead. Because Google+ is awesome (apparently). In fact, the version after that will do away with the address bar altogether because WHY EXACTLY DO YOU WANT TO NAVIGATE TO A NON-GOOGLE+ SITE?
Needless to say, I'm fucking livid about this. I'm mailed the dev team, I've done the NTP survey. And I still can't pin tabs. I mean, it's not an unreasonable request (aka: "please restore functionality you removed"), but it makes sense.
Obviously the New Tab Page doesn't fit in with Google's App Store scheme. I mean, you can't monetize a pinned tab. This is Google's way of shoving their agenda directly in your face every time you open the browser. And it's a real shame. I'm using a different browser now, because to me, this is indicative of a much larger problem with Chrome. Something as simple as a pinning function isn't being implemented by Google. And why? Because they're putting their own agenda ahead of their users wishes.
It's a problem that I'm noticing more and more. So yes, I've switched browsers and I get the feeling it's only a matter of time before I switch search engines too.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||Aramn12||4/18/12 2:03 PM|
This is extremely annoying! Being able to pin and unpin things and move the pages around was very useful. Apparently it's usefulness meant that Google felt it necessary to remove it. Seriously considering changing to another browser right now. It seems rather pointless to remain using one that gets worse when updated, rather than better!
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||HBAWS||5/27/12 12:10 AM|
Yes, please bring back the pinning ability. In fact, I have no idea why Google would remove it? It's extremely irritating to get all the most visited pages all mixed up and not having the ability to rearrange them again. Ugh
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||stellabela||6/8/12 6:08 AM|
Did you ever allow us the ability to pin to this page. Somehow I have removed one and it is blank and I cant put what I want or anything in the spot
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||steppres||6/27/12 11:43 PM|
Up until now I have been editing my preferences file manually to add and remove pinned sites on the New Tab Page, but as of Chrome 20 that ability has been removed. There is literally no way to keep the site I visit the most in that list and in the order I want.
I'm not sure why Google decided to remove this functionality that every nearly every other major browser implements. Perhaps they are trying to force people to use the Apps feature instead of Pinned Sites to draw more attention to the Chrome Web Store? Needless to say people enjoy the ability to pin their favorite sites to the New Tab Page. I'm sure there are lots of reasons why people don't want their most visited sites displayed instead of a their own list.
There are obviously quite a number of users who preferred the old system, and I can't see why Google would decide to not re-implement it in a future update. It makes the New Tab Page much more useful.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||paulgr||7/6/12 9:39 PM|
It was a very useful feature. No wonder it's gone. Now I just get "Recently Visited" links, NOT "MOST Visited."

I also would like to know the answer to this please, if anyone can help
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||Steelbreese||7/21/12 4:25 AM|
I accidentally deleted an important one and now I cannot restore it to the new tab page
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||HannesFury||8/12/12 10:01 AM|
As you can see, we are not satisfied with this. Keep it *simple* and easy to understand and use. Pinning and moving around was very useful! Now we're left with a front page we cannot control, and an apps page we don't use. I'm guessing you want to be different from Firefox. But in that case, do it better, not complex and less managable.
Occam's Razor, Google, don't you dare forget.
|Re: Pin sites on the new style new tab page?||Moosed||8/21/12 4:37 AM|
I don't mind the most visited page for chrome but the fact that I cant move my own pages around on it anymore, or pin the ones I want makes me very angry >:(

BRING BACK THE PINS.
Had to install Chrome on a new computer, and now my New Tab (home page) is permanently screwed.
