Launch Incognito Window From Task Bar Via Right-Click Removed in Chrome 21 duffman55 8/1/12 10:28 AM
Chrome 21 removed the ability to right-click on the Chrome icon in the task bar under Windows 7 and choose to launch an incognito window (or another normal window). Anyone else miss this or know why it was removed?

Also the shortcut pinned to the start menu no longer has the little arrow to the right side that let you choose to do these actions either.

Yep, I 'miss' it too.
You can use Ctrl+Shift+N if you already have Chrome running at least that's what I'm going to do.

Regards

This is one of a few annoying changes to Chrome 21.

I have Chrome set to restart each session from where I left off. I close my browser regularly for many reasons such as to (force/encourage) focus on other things, save memory, etc.

When set up to restore last session, start up of Chrome is slow. An incognito window is much faster to start up than a full browser session. For me, an incognito option is crucial for quick research tasks.

Other annoying changes include making the default print option "save as pdf" to my Google Drive. I have a PDF printer, and preset default printing preferences.

Google is not being helpful by assuming it knows what I want in these cases.

Opera and Firefox with sidetabs and instant launch private browsing are looking more attractive despite their own problems like memory leaks.

I found a workaround for now. Create a shortcut to Chrome with the '--incognito' flag:

The target of a Windows shortcut, Windows 7 in my case, should be:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --incognito

Let's hope Google returns to their roots and makes products that are addictive, powerful and encourage use on their own merits. These ongoing and escalating practices of trying to force use of their products are uncomfortable and unlike the old Google.

Same issue here, don't know what's going on - It seems kind of pointless if this change was intended.

I hope they switch it back, or at least give users the option of configuring it how they'd like.

Yes, very annoying changes going on.  At least make optional settings.  I'm going to give it another week, then I'll be changing browsers.

Yes, Please put it back!  Why did it get removed?  Anyone know?

Is this the only place we can ask it to be put back?  Is the chrome team looking at these posts?

This happened a while back, and then it was fixed again. We're on ver 22 in the beta channel now, and it's still not back.  Pretty annoying--maybe there's a better place to suggest a bug fix.

Same problem in the last few versions, but this fix worked for me. Took a few seconds but the jumplist is back.
