Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. 阿珠 4/2/11 10:17 AM
Hopefully I can find a definite solution to this problem.  I just wasted hours searching and reading through past discussions but all have the same end - NOT SOLVED.

It just happened last week.  Whenever I open Google Chrome this appears:

"This webpage is not available

The webpage at http://www.google.com/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error."

I already did the following:

1)  uninstalled and reinstalled
2)  ran CCleaner
3)  uninstalled and reinstalled avira anti-virus

The same problem keeps repeating :(.

PLEASE HELP.
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. wár17 § 4/2/11 10:45 AM
Which webpage are you trying to access?  Does the problem occur on another browser?  What version of Chrome and operating system are you using?  What extensions do you have installed?
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. 阿珠 4/3/11 8:41 AM
Chrome Version:  10.0.648.204
Extension Installed: NONE
Operating System:  Windows XP Home

No webpage can be accessed :(.  No problem with other browsers, only Chrome.

PLEASE HELP.
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. wár17 § 4/3/11 9:25 AM
You have run antivirus, but not check for malware.  Remove malware. Run TDSS Remover and/or Malwarebytes.

Run TDSS Killer

If no ;joy, download and install Malwarebytes. Run updates. Run scan
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. 阿珠 4/3/11 10:31 PM
OMG, thanks so much wár17 § !!!  That did it !!!  Ran both TDSS Killer and Malwarebytes.  TDSS Killer didn't find anything, but Melawarebytes found a total of 55 threats!  They're now quarantined and....VOILA!  Chrome worked again :D!!!  I'm so happy, thanks so much for your time in helping me ^_^!

Last question regarding this topic, should I delete the 55 threats in quarantine?  How often should I run these 2 programs?
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. wár17 § 4/3/11 10:38 PM
Glad you found the problem. Yes, delete the 55 threads in quarantine.  TDSS Killer is for one specific malware that Malwarebytes does not detect.  Since you had an issue, run both programs once a week for the next month to make sure you do not get back any malware.
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. 阿珠 4/4/11 12:34 AM
Will do that ^_^.  Thanks again for all the help ^_^.
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. Zayan1277 4/18/11 6:27 AM
Same thing happens to me, but.. I cant access other browers either, and I cant access any websites as well. Will this help me if I download and scan and delete the malware threats?
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. wár17 § 4/18/11 7:53 AM
Zayan, if you have malware, you should remove them. But I do not know how malware directly affects your browsing of internet.
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. wár17 § 4/18/11 8:51 AM
Download Accelerator Plus have been known to carry virus and malware.  They supposedly cleaned their act and not download all these programs.

Uninstall DAP and the other programs.  If you need a download manager,  use Internet Download Manager
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. wár17 § 4/18/11 9:27 AM
Did you run Run TDSS Killer?
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. markxster 4/20/11 4:37 AM
HERE IS YOUR FIX********************************************************************************************

I just uninstalled Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) and Speedbit Video Accelerator.  My computer rebooted and now Chrome is up and running.  It really sucks that these programs were giving me that error and killing my browser.

Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. d.u.d.e 6/15/11 11:46 PM
After installing W7 64bit, I can only use IE9 64bit.  All microsoft can say is to reset IE (the worst browser ever).  Anyway, I uninstalled speedbit accelerator and the 32bit browser popped up because speedbit want to know why i am uninstalling.  Days of searching the web and tweaking services wasted.  You're the man MARKxSTER! and thank you.

malware.org catches malware.trace (virus/malware) but this stupid virus keeps coming back. What's making it come back???

I even have Malware software ON while browsing yet somehow this malware keeps coming back.

Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. alfredkong 12/12/11 6:57 AM
I am facing this problem as well. The difference is, I am not able to use any of the browser to connect to the internet (either wireless nor LAN). Chrome shows Error 137 and I did everythg I could including running TDSS, Malwarebytes seems to be unable to use on my computer (tried installing and uninstalling it several times, shortly after launch the program, it just crash), I tried restore to earlier system point but fail at every junction. I am using Windows 7 ultimate. I dun use DAP or speedbit, only IDM. I know my laptop is in problem as the other laptops and desktop in my house seems to be connecting to internet fine. This is only happening today and I dun get it what is happening. I restart the router modem several times but to no avail. Help!!!
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. luciensabre 12/13/11 5:38 AM
I tried all that you said (install and scan with Malwarebytes, run TDSS Killer) but nothing works; the page I'm trying to see (www.frail-frivolity.net) is yet not visible.
Chromes gives me the " Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error." message; IE show the classical "Oops! Internet Explorer could not find www.frail-frivolity.net" message; Mozilla Firefox gives me the "Unable to contact server" message.
I'm gonna try and see if Opera works - but it's unlikely as I unistalled Opera due to big issues with the browser itself. >_>
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. Boiano 12/13/11 10:50 AM
Hello,

This error is normally due to malware affecting your system. To resolve it, you have to do a scan on your computer but not with an antivirus. You have to install an anti-malware and spyware remover.
Most of the anti malware softwares do not detect this threat, that's why I'll give the link of a software which will detect and remove this spyware.

Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. jaybksu 1/9/12 11:19 AM
Hey,

I just starting getting this error after i erased an old antivirus, and some apple's itune player. The problem i'm having is that neither internet explorer or chrome works. So i'm unable to download anything off the internet since i can't get on due to this error. Is their a way around this problem?
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. clownz 2/4/12 2:23 PM
Ok well If this problem was caused by malware why would every device on my network have this problem with only one site? I designed the site and it worked fine last night i wake up this morning and wow i cant get to it on chrome firefox comodo ie maxthon 3 ie 8 or 9 opera safari or evn photon mobile flash browser! however i can get to it on jondofox which is a privacy browser! So i logged into my cpanel and unblocked all ip's incase my ip was blocked and i still have the same issue!!!!!!!! Its not malware so what could it be?
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. wár17 § 2/4/12 2:41 PM
It could be coding error.  Chrome runs on strick HTML5.
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. Vader400 2/11/12 6:25 PM
I would  like some help.

I was using the internet fine tonight , on all browsers when suddenly I couldn't  access a number of websites, including, Hotmail, Yahoo answers,  twitter, face book, and some others, most forums. The only sites  that work are you tube and google.

I get this message when I try to access a page : Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error.

I cannot  even download  a malware remover like a previous poster suggested, as I cannot access the page

What is wrong?

cheers
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. wár17 § 2/11/12 6:36 PM
Vader400,

Do you have problem with all pages, or one page only?  If you use another browser, can you access the website?

Change your browser cache and try again.

Can any program connect to internet?  Did you remove some virus recently?
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. nornaimah 2/25/12 9:28 PM
i have the same problems with Vader400. and apparently, this is not only occur to my google chrome, but other internet browsers too.. i think the internet is fine because now I'm using foxyproxy since this is the only way to get to the websites but if I changed it back to my default proxy or completely disable the foxyproxy, the same problems happened.  and my bittorent is working as usual.

I also has scan my computer by using TDSS Killer, but it said no malware objects found.. so, what should i do?

Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. Pawno 4/10/12 1:33 PM
SOLUTION :

I have tried everything (system restore/virus scan/cmd commands/uninstall programms) but nothing from here works, so i have downloaded Trojan Remover (my favourite software, love him) and there just simply clicked on Utilities --> Reset Windows HOSTS file . Worked for me

Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. caciah 4/19/12 10:32 AM
I have to believe this is some type of coding/server problem because the Google reps keep calling to tell me they are getting this error on my website and they are removing it until it's fixed. At work, I cannot view the website on IE 8 or Firefox. At home, I can view it on my Mac in every browser.

When I view properties the error link says: res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm

Any masterminds have a solution? I REALLY need to get my site on Google.

Thanks!

Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. QRAnswers 10/3/12 12:06 PM
ANSWER
Step 1 Click windows button in lower left and above is a search search(.cmd)
Step 2 Hold (shift + ctrl) and then hit (enter) to open command as administrator
Step 3 Type (netsh winsock reset) and hit enter. This resets network settings
Step 4 Restart computer
Step 5 Give me a plus because that was a super easy, no new software hassle solution

Chrome should have this solution below the error!
Chrome should have a some kind of solution with every error that doesn't involve anything like software.

P.S Maybe Chrome has suggestions after you get problem fixed to prevent it from happening again and has recommended solutions page after error is fixed that company's pay Google to advertise.

Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. Jason DSilva 10/19/12 11:41 PM
The problem is related to DNS. Change your DNS servers to something else, example 8.8.8.8 or 208.67.222.222.

The problem is that the dns response is timing out

- I get "Error 137" on all my browsers and programs dont connect to the internet

- On my main admin account all of my shortcuts got taken off and cannit function properly

I am typing this on my phone which has internet, so what program should I have and run  on my computer? I have a USB for Phone-to-Computer

Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. marjogs 2/8/13 6:44 PM
Found a quicker way. It seems that all of my four internet browsers fail to communicate properly with ... the internet. When I changed my proxy server settings, the problem was gone. I checked in with other people and it doesn't seem to matter if the proxy is on or off. It just needs to be the other way around for some reason. Proxy settings are located in the Network section in the browser's main menu. Just turn it on ... or off. Hope it works for you too! God damn Chrome, you guys!

Well, it worked for me

You need to think what programme you uninstalled as that would be part of the problem, look for program files in your computer logs that you no longer have installed and delete them, then do  the proceedure again.

you don't need to scan your computer in safe mode as that will not solve anything.

Try what i suggest then run your Anti-Virus software.

I also recommend IObit Malware Fighter which is totally free to install and let that help trying to solve what is wrong too

Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. 01thetrainguy 7/3/13 9:34 PM
The only option left is to uninstall your web browser and re-install, also return your computer back to first turn on, but you will lose everything on it

I install avast! antivirus, cc cleaner, combofix, malwarebytes, TDSS killer, Ad-aware, rkill but non of these softwares solve this error.
By the way, I think mine is different case. I still can browse the net, this error just occur sometimes. Normally i just have to refresh the page for several time and it's ok again. This problem is very annoying and i want to get rid of it...
Re: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. 01thetrainguy 7/19/13 9:41 AM
Given everything else as failed, eventhough your case is different in that you can browse the web, the only other option is to put your computer back to the very first time it was turned on.  If you have not backups made of everything on your computer you will lose all content as system startup will delete everything.  You will get all your Microsoft updates again over a 18 hour time frame, give or take

Good Luck
