|My font on Google Chrome for most pages is in Italic.||IainTheDestroyer||11/17/08 7:03 AM|
I tried using the tweaks and the font is supposedly in normal, not italic. How do I change the settings so that text on webpages isn't all italic? This has only been a recent problem, it started yesterday, I did uninstall some programmes but would that affect the font face on Chrome? Thanks.

I had the same problem until I found this thread:
As mentioned in that thread, just opening the Arial font in the Windows font folder seems to have fixed it for me.

Use the Start Menu, goto Control Panel then Fonts. This actually opens up the font directory. Then double click the Arial.ttf file. Close it and re-open Chrome.
Dunno why, but it worked for me.

yep, works, thanks
start -> control panel -> fonts -> open "arial (truetype)", close font, restart chrome

What worked for me is redownloading the file from here:
Talk about one annoying problem!

What worked for me too is to re-install the arial font...
The problem for me was that the original arial font was removed and it only had arial italic and arial italic bold.
|Re: My font on Google Chrome for most pages is in Italic.||fighterpilot87||9/8/09 9:44 PM|
actually it didn't work... after restarting system, the italics came back. For some reason the "Arial.ttf" file is missing and keeps disappearing after each restart

Problem solved after system restoring 2 days before occurrence of the italics in web browsers.

Re-installed my font...it worked! Thanks!

Opening and closing the font had no effect here. Reinstalling Arial via the link provided by ArchaeologyAngel worked.
Using a Windows 7 install upgraded from Vista and just uninstalled a bunch of games to make room for a new bunch of games. Apparently, some installer is eating Windows' Arial font.
|Re: My font on Google Chrome for most pages is in Italic.||cookiecaper||11/21/09 7:35 AM|
However, I have to reinstall it every time I reboot. Anyone know a way around that?
|Re: My font on Google Chrome for most pages is in Italic.||colddx||4/3/10 4:33 PM|
The problem is you're missing airal.ttf and verdana.ttf, and it's reverting to the italics as a backup
Copy these 2 fonts from another machine or off the internet, install them, and restart your browser.

I tried reinstalling the font form elsewhere, but it kept on being gone again at restart. The solution on my Win7 64 machine was to select restore font defaults in font settings.

Absolutely ridiculous this. I had this problem on my desktop PC (which was rather old and ran XP). Couldn't solve it then.
I bought this new laptop with windows 7 pre-installed and STILL the fonts appear as Italic Bold on a fresh install of google chrome. This is solely Google's fault and needs sorting. Twitter is the worst for displaying this.
I've tried re-installing the fonts (via the exe files) and it still doesn't work. Shame on you, google!!!

if you notice this problem early, you can resort to a system restore (Control Panel: Backup and Restore) from a day or two previous. Likely it was some installer that messed with your fonts, so this will take care of it and you can go back and figure out what exactly was messing with your stuff

I had this problem and read every fix posted on the web but didn't get the right answer to this until I found it out on my own.
What's causing it to turn Bold Italic is that my I have my Helvetica fonts conflicting with chrome. What I did is I removed all Helvetica fonts that are named after a number (ex. Helvetica 65 Neue Bold Oblique, etc) and left just the basic ones (ex. Helvetica Reg/Italic/Bold, Helvetica Condensed, Helvetica Compressed, Helvetica Neue etc.)
In Windows 7, it won't let you delete font that is currently being used so the technique to avoid other fonts that are being used by other program getting deleted is to make sure you close Google Chrome. After closing it, start deleting the said Helvetica fonts. You will be prompted by an error message that says it is being used by another program and can't be deleted so SKIP that.
Open Google Chrome and it should work fine now.
Experienced this "Bold Italic" Problem on the following sites:
and some others.
Hope it helps.

yep have this problem too. downloading arial sorted it though

I had this same problem except all of my text was displaying bolded. I use FontExplorer X (on a Mac) to manage my fonts. It seemed as though my Arial fonts had been deactivated. Once I activated them and restarted Chrome, it returned to normal.

none of these solutions worked for me. I downloaded ariel and times new roman and websites still showing up bold and italics. help!!
|Re: My font on Google Chrome for most pages is in Italic.||jfpritchard||3/31/12 3:07 PM|
Hey I've had the same problem it its been frustrating the heck out of me. It seemed that the Arial Regular Font was missing from my systems font folder. It only had Arial Black, Arial Bold, Arial Bold Italic and Arial Italic. So I downloaded this update http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=0ec6f335-c3de-44c5-a13d-a1e7cea5ddea and then restarted google chrome.
Problem fixed :D

Did you try doing the "Restore default font settings" option? (Windows?)
Downloading fonts did not work for me. After reboot the problem just came back.
Also, just to be clear -- this is NOT a Google Chrome issues, it occurs system-wide. (For other readers, not you specifically :) I actually noticed the font issues first in FireFox then switched browsers.

For me, using Windows XP on one PC, the problem does not appear using Chrome 18.0.1025.168 m, nor with IE8, nor Opera 11, nor Firefox 11.0
On another PC (also Windows XP) the problem appears only with IE8 and Chrome 18.0.1025.168 m.
Both versions of Windows XP are SP3 and are up-to date with Windows' updates.
In Chrome the default sans-serif font is Arial, shown as non-italic, but on a web page which has font-family: "MS Reference Sans Serif", Verdana, "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; defined as the default, the text is italic except where it is bold without italic.
It's difficult to reconcile the different ways this problem is manifested!

This problem just happened to me, running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. After I uninstalled a program, I noticed text being BOLD AND ITALIC on many websites, like reddit.
What I found was that uninstalling the program had deleted some normal fonts from my computer, at the very least Verdana. When I went to C:\Windows\Fonts, the only font where Verdana was supposed to be was "Verdana Bold Italic", the annoying font I was seeing all over the internet.
SOLUTION: Go to this site http://web.nickshanks.com/fonts/microsoft-core-web-fonts and download and install the fonts you're missing. I installed Verdana and the problem was fixed.
