Mystart Incredibar has hijacked my New Tab Page. How do I undo this? Ralaren 7/8/12 12:11 PM
I have (I think) gotten rid of incredibar via Spybot S&D but the settings it had previously hijacked still remain. I changed my default omnibox browser back to Google but my New Tab Page remains hijacked and sends me to Mystart Incredibar homepage.

I have the exact same problems. I thought I had gotten rid of it, and I had made my default tabs Google, but nothing seems to be happening.

Same problem. 1st I removed Mystart... program by Windows and by Google in its Tools/Extensions list. Did not help. Then found  Webpage... program installed by the same company. Tricky move from the virus authors. I removed this one as well. Also by precaution I disabled all extensions  in Google list. all together, trouble disappeared. Then, to be on the safe side, I uninstalled Chrome then reinstalled it. Surprise the beast reappered. Closer look showed two extensions I disabled returned to service: one called New Tool for Chrome and Skype Click to Call. So, I disabled the former. Trouble disappeared. I checked on my other comp. that I did not have "New Tool..." at all. It seems nevertheless a legitimate software from some not Google affiliate comp. I guessed this ext. was hijacked. So I removed all the extensions for good (click on Trash can). From now on for the moment things are OK.

In the meantime I used Chrome in private mode. No trouble. Whenever I attempted to come  back to public one, the beast was there.

Finally, Mystart.. really used Google as search engine. I tested it worked OK. Wonder why Google does not detect such a "Monkey in the middle" substitution. Seems a default in Chrome's design

go to tools extensions then find "new tool" or something that isn't supposed to be there

I just solved it I'm not sure it will finish it but in Extensions
Disable or Delete New tab for Chrome™
Which says its made by Google.
after I disabled it my new tab page went back to normal so I tested
my theory I turned it back on and new tab went back to mystart turned
it off and no mystart and so on.

See if New for Chrome is they're if so disable it and tell me if it
works.

That's just what I found out yesterday you sir are very correct.
New tab for Chrome™ says its made by Google but it is a lie it
also says it works for Firefox which Mystart Hacks as well.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your findings about how to remove the extension/program that has caused the change for you! Keep posting your findings, as they may differ based on what the root cause was, and what has worked for you.

For folks who are new to this thread, the change you observed is usually caused by a 3rd party program that you may have installed. Some of these programs will install other programs/extensions/toolbars that changes your browser's settings instead (i.e. homepage, default search engine, start up pages, etc). If your settings have been changed, please make sure to check the following:
  • If unfamiliar pages are opening up each time you start up Chrome, check in Wrench Settings On Startup > next to the radio button for Open a specific page or set of pages, click on Set pages > remove any unwanted URLs by hovering over the URL until you see an "X" appear to the right side of the URL.
  • If all searches that you perform in the omnibox are returning with results from a different search engine instead of your preferred search engine, check in Wrench Settings Search Manage search engines > check the list of Default search enginesOther search engines, and Search engines added by extensions, and remove suspicious entries that you are not familiar with. Depending on your extensions, you may not see the last section for Search engines added by extensions.
    • To remove an unfamiliar search engine, make sure you select your preferred search engine first, and then remove the unfamiliar option.
  • If an unfamiliar page opens up when you click on the Home button, check in Wrench Settings Appearance > select the Show Home button checkbox > check the URL below it.
  • Also check that there are no extensions installed that may be causing these changes. Go to Wrench Settings Extensions > if you see any unfamiliar extension that you do not remember installing, try disabling/removing the extension to see it was causing these changes. To disable, uncheck the "Enabled" checkbox next to the extension. To remove, hover over the extension until you see a trash can icon appear, and click on the icon.
If you do not remember installing any MyStart (or anything from IncrediBar) specific software around the time that this change took place, it is advisable to perform a malware scan to make sure that there are no other suspicious programs remaining that could make changes to your settings.

Try going into settings, then extensions and disable "New Tab for Chrome" (or something like that).  I just did it and it seems to be working for me now.  Then I deleted it altogether.  Now, when I click to open a new tab, it is back at Google.  Although, I still wonder if it's lurking on my computer...

I agree i'm not sure if fixing the browser will finish this virus off. It still happens on other browsers so it could still do something bad to my Computer.

Thanks Driller1. Your solution knocked the problem on the head for me. I don't think the "Skype Click to Call" extension is quite what it seems...

I've had the same problem this morning after downloading AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2012. Was able to get rid of it by going to Extensions and removing AVG Secure Search.
