I really love the pinned tab feature but I would like to customize it's behavior. My understanding of pinned tabs is that these tabs should not leave the website they are on. For me this even includes typing a new address into the address bar. When I do so I'd like chrome to open a new tab. Would be nice to have an option for that.

I know if you click external links from the pinned tab page they open in a new tab, but nice suggestion!

Definitely want this!  Only problem is how would the browser be able to tell if a link is not part of the local page if the logic is not built into the web app.  For example, would links which used the same domain still load in the pin tab?  I could see this being a problem if someone pinned http://sites.google.com and wanted to browse through the subpages.

Better to make forcing links in pinned tabs open a new window an option (defaulting to current functionality of using the same window) so user can choose based on their usage of pinned tabs.

I'm happy with the link behavior in pinned tabs so far. I'd like to see the exact same behavior when typing an address into the address bar. If the address is external open a new tab, if not stay in the pinned tab.

I agree. New addresses entered into the address bar should open in their own tab.

I would really like an option to remove the addressbar outright in pinned tabs.

Also, pinned tabs DO NOT force all links into new tabs. To test this, go to reddit.com, pin that tab, and click any of the links. The link will open in the current pinned tab.

I really don't see the point of having a type of persistent tab, such as pinned tabs, that get so easily overwritten. Either make pinned tabs behavior such that they will stay on the current site, or don't make pinned tabs persistent between browser sessions.

yup, another annoyance. this really should be changed or at least made into an option.

I agree. I cant understand, why doesnt work that way. The pinned tab must be stay at the pinned address and when i type a new address, it should be open a new tab...

Totally agree with this.

I also think pinned tabs should be permanently pinned. So if I restart the browser, they are still there. I'd like my homepage, gmail and calendar open all the time and pinned. At the moment I have no reason to pin anything, other than to make the tab smaller, which isn't really a problem.

@gateian. As far as I know, if you pin a tab(s) and restart the browser, the tab(s) stay there even if you restart the browser.

@daaaveeeee hmm. It does not appear to work for me. I will try at home and see if there is a difference.

I just tested and it definitely works in the current stable release, dev release and chromium.

Excellent. I checked to see what my latest version was and it seems I needed a proper relauch to update. I have done that and now it works for me. Now pinned tabs make sense :) Sweet. Thanks Daveeee

I agree. Pinned tabs must be stay at the website they are on when they pinned. If I type a new address, it should be open in a new tab.
I think it is logical.

Maybe Just remove the address bar completely for Pinned Tabs!  This would be an easy work around for a Chrome Extension Developer....such a thing exists for FireFox already. BUT... I would much rather see the Pinned Tab Address Bar simply (or not so simply) open any newly typed websites in a new tab if possible.  If there is an extension to remove the address bar please post it here :)

Also may I add, make it so that clearing browsing data does not close the Pinned Tabs!

Anything new on this? I love pinned tabs but just having switched from Firefox to Chrome, I like the way pinned tabs work better in Firefox. I don't want my pinned tabs to leave the page they are pinned to - they should always open a new window. Is there an option for this yet?

I agree.
