I accidentally quit Chrome and when I reopened it, the tabs were in a larger, different font and boxier. The gray across the top was lighter, the back/forward arrows look different and the three horizontal bars on the right are now 3 vertical dots. The drop down URL bar of suggested sites as I'm typing is a new font and color as well.
It doesn't look as smooth, I hate it and I'd like it back, but I have no idea what happened.
I tried uninstalling Chrome, resetting the browser and signing in and out. Nothing worked.
I'm on a MacBook Air, using El Capitan 10.11.5. The only extensions I have installed are Google ones (Docs, Docs Offiline, Sheets and Slides). I'm attaching a screenshot.

what happened is that yout got an automatic update, and the new version has this new ugly appearance. I suspect they did it on purpose so that chrome looks the same on all platforms.
Maybe it's time to switch to safari.
Yeah this is happening to me accept the search bar when the results come down in the list. Its black, Also i think it screwed up my Adblock because the icon is screwed up Its also a little slower now.
Ugh, it stinks this seems purposeful. It looks really bad, like I'm using the wrong screen aspect ratio or something.

Are you facing this issue on Chrome Beta? If yes, please check if the issue persists on Chrome Stable. If it does, this seems to be a part of the new Chrome Update. I'd appreciate your feedback about the same using steps from this help article. In the meantime, please give these steps a try to see if they make a difference:
Does the issue persist in incognito mode?
Clearing cache and cookies can be useful.
Just to make sure we eliminate malware from the scenario, please follow the steps from this help article.
Try resetting the Chrome browser to see if that helps.
Also, creating a new user profile on your Chrome can be helpful.
If the issue persists, download and run Chrome Canary. It is the cutting edge developer version of Chrome that can be installed alongside Stable Chrome. It's possible the problem won't exist on a future version.

Go to chrome://flags/#top-chrome-md and set it to "Non-material".
I would really love for a way to change the size of the font.

Happened to me on my Mac as well. The new theme is absolutely horrible. Probably switching to Firefox or something if this isn't quickly resolved.

In the meantime, please give these suggestions a try:
- Type ClearType in the Windows search box then click on "Adjust ClearType Text" in the search results.
- Run the tuner, check the "Turn On ClearType" checkbox, then go through the rest of the screens of the wizard.
- If after running the tuner text still looks fuzzy or blurry, try turning off anti-aliasing in Windows. This might be particularly helpful on very high resolution displays. To do so, they can use the following process:
- Open the control panel. Click "System and Security" then click "System".
- On the left side, click "Advanced system settings".
- Click the "Advanced" tab, then under "Performance" click the "Settings" button.
- Under the "Visual Effects" tab, uncheck the "Smooth edges of screen fonts" checkbox, click "Apply", and restart Chrome.

Thanks Ash Reedy. Worked like a charm. That other design with the bigger fonts and tabs looked really clunky. For a second when Chrome relaunched with the update, I thought my screen resolution somehow automatically got lowered, since everything was bigger.

Ah, to be more accurate, it's just the font size in the tabs that stopped working for me with the 53 update. The tabs themselves are still the old smaller style. Everything else, the menu bar, the bookmarks bar, the settings icon are still the old style and smaller font size. Those big fonts threw me off.

Thanks, Ash. When I first saw the change, I thought it was a virus or spyware or something, especially with that stupid info icon at the beginning of the address bar. The last time it happened, about two days ago, I reset the laptop to a previous date, but when it happened again I was determined to track down the cause. Apparently it's just a stupid bloody chrome thing. Why did we not have a choice; or at least a fucking warning that it was going to happen? So once again, thanks for helping me get back to bloody normal.
The tabs are so super-ugly, I don't want to look at them. I can sense UX-people's handiwork there, oh man. Hopefully there's a classic skin or something available.
FIX the tab size for cripes sake, and let me adjust size of url line again. I can't adjust to show all my active extensions. I'll deal with / adjust font size, and color changes. The disproportionate size of the huge tabs and tiny fonts is SO distracting. Doesn't google "get" the huge impact to productivity when users have to deal with unexpected visual changes.

The "Find" box (f3 or ctrl-f) is also now unbelievably fugly. Used to look like part of the UI, and now it looks like a completely white text box that doesn't care AT ALL what color schemes you like. (Seriously, I have a mostly black theme, my Aero is all very dark, and find box used to look like it was part of something. Now? It sticks out like an elephant in a chicken coop. Also it doesn't go red for no results on the 0/0 anymore.) Seems to be like it was changed around the same time. Is this also "intended behavior"? To make things look worse? (Tabs looking fuzzy, I'll deal with. Font shrinking I may learn to deal with. This find bar however is just ugly and doesn't mesh at all in any way.)
