|Can't set google as my home page on google chrome.||superpancha||5/17/12 4:56 AM|
I had google as my homepage, but as of yesterday I can't seem to keep it as my home page. I know that in order to set my home page, I'm suppose to click on the wrench icon in the top right hand corner and look for the options button. But for some reason the options button isn't there. So now, I have no way of setting my home page. Could somebody please help me. It's driving me nuts!

IN the settings under Appearance make sure ' Show Home button' is checked. When it's checked a link should show up saying change. Click it and type in the homepage you want.

This doesn't load your chosen home page upon launch.

Okay. So I figured out how to set Google as my homepage. Click on the wrench and select Settings. Make sure you are signed in on your Google account. Under "On Startup" make sure that the "Specific page or set of pages" button is selected. Click "Set pages" and make sure that Google is the only page listed. If it isn't, enter the url address for Google and "x" out of the rest. If there is any. Under "Appearance" make sure the "Show Home button" box, is checked. Click "change". After clicking change, a window will pop up. Make sure the "Open this page" button is selected and type in the url address for Google. Under "Search" make sure that Google is set as your search engine. I know there's a lot of steps, but it worked for me. Hope it works for you as well.

No it doesnt work, I reinstall Chrome browser but cannot get set a home page If Google cant use a simple method to do this then I will dump the rubbish

When you think Firefox just shows the home or house icon which can be moved across when on any url to set it as home page , Google should be ashamed at making a simpletask so difficult

There is no way to set a page of your choice to open on startup unless create a Google account so Google can track you. It's a strong arm way tactic, pure and simple.

It seems that Google has found its level of incompetence
|Re: Can't set google as my home page on google chrome.||minoux||2/8/13 5:05 PM|
I didnt solve it but Ive found a workaround - of sorts
Go to google
Drag the icon from next to the url that looks like a file onto your desktop
This becomes your google button.
Use it every time you start google.
Its ugly but it works

Ok i had the same issue but found a way to do it.
GO TO GOOGLE PAGE >
COPY THE URL AT THE TOP >
GO TO SETTINGS >
ON START UP >
OPEN A SPECIFIC PAGE OR PAGES >
SET PAGES >
PASTE URL INTO BOX >
and that's it.
Only works with one window at a time though

I managed to fix this by checking the list of extensions installed with Chrome.
Go to Settings > Extensions.
Look for any recently installed extensions. In my case they were named "SaFeSyave" and "SearchNewTab". I deleted them and voila! Chrome now works like new.

REMOVE ANY EXTENSION YOU ARE NOT SURE OF AND YOU WILL GET THE DEFAULT HOME PAGE

Under settings, go to "Extensions" and remove any "conduit" extension you may have. This should solve your problem.

None of these suggestions have worked for me. In my case, the ability to set my homepage was working up until yesterday when Chrome updated itself to Version 30.0.1599.69 m.
Now, no matter what value I type under "Show Home button", Chrome ignores it when launching new windows and tabs. There is no way around Chrome's ridiculously self-promoting "Google Search and Recent Websites" home page.
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, Google REALLY needs to hire some competent UX designers. Google consistently earns the highest scores for usability at it's worst.
