Google Chrome keeps crashing Roey Tzezana 2/12/13 10:25 PM
Hi,
My Chrome keeps crashing on my new computer with Windows 8. Any idea why, and what I can do? If it keeps disfunctioning like that, I'll be forced to switch to Firefox...

Thanks in advance!

Chrome Version (type about:version into your omnibox):
Operating System (Windows 7/8/Vista/XP, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS):

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Idaltu 2/16/13 11:10 AM
In the past week my Chrome has crashed just about every 10 minutes.  I have done every suggestion made by the experts and it still crashes.  Firefox is fine....no problems with it over the same web sites.  I think much of it actually has to do with the flash drives.  Google needs to do more than make suggestions....get it fixed!  I am exhausted with chasing down untested solutions.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Michael Irish 2/25/13 12:56 PM
Yeah, mine is acting up on the most recent version of mac osx, and the newest version of adobe flash installed.

switching to firefox soon I guess. This is annoying.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing redsharpie 2/25/13 5:55 PM
My chrome has been doing the same. Crashing and when I reopen there is no error message or "restore tabs" option at the top of the screen.

Is it something with my computer or something with Chrome?

It seems to happen a lot when I go to gmail and facebook, but it's happened a few times on other sites as well.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Jessica Norville 2/25/13 7:17 PM

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Kalzone68 2/26/13 1:08 AM

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Kalzone68 2/26/13 1:22 AM
Ditto! Please help. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate w/ Chrome  and FF. Also, Adobe Air 3.6.0.5970 and Adobe Flash Player plugin 11.6.692.16.(Under heavy usage in Facebook CRASHING.)
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Ryan Ziegler 2/27/13 5:33 AM
Same exact thing every time i open a new tap or start typing in facebook. I even deleted chrome and re downloaded it to see if something had been corrupted in the file, but........ IT STILL HAPPENs.
Does anyone know if they are working on a solution for an update because i simply think its an internal glitch bc im running Mac OS Mountain Lion and as soon as i downloaded the most recent update that apple offered for it this problem started happening.
If anyone hears how to fix this problem please let me know.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Beverly Trca-Kitchen 2/27/13 5:59 PM
Count me in too on this topic.  It is getting really annoying and I love CHROME but there has to be a fix too.  I too am running Mac Snow Leopard but it appears that both Windows and mac are affected by this.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Me too!
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Austin Hafer 3/5/13 5:42 AM
Exact same, seems to happen most when using Facebook (the most visited page on all the web)...
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Jrod1111 3/5/13 7:42 AM
exact same thing here
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Jrod1111 3/5/13 7:43 AM
Aw, snap
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Nate Lance 3/5/13 8:12 AM
Same! when I have approx. 4 tabs open and I go to open a new one, Chrome closes on me. I have a Mac with the second to latest OS system.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing RubyAlvey 3/5/13 3:01 PM
Same with mine. If I log in to Facebook, and try to play a game, it crashes.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Evolution54 3/5/13 3:57 PM
YES! Same here! I noticed prior to upgrading to Chrome 25 that the browser would keep crashing due to the built-in Flash/Shockwave plugin of Chrome. After finally disabling that to use the native Adobe Flash player of the OS, it was more stable. I know this is due to Flash because Chrome will tell me that Shockwave has crashed...blah blah blah

After upgrading to Chrome 25, it seems that something else is going haywire and I don't think it's due to Flash but more of an extension error. I don't receive a Shockwave error but just a more generic "Google Chrome has stopped working" or something of that nature. It's frustrating. What I did notice is that prior to the browser crashing, my CPU would spike a bit due to the Chrome process and the browser itself would not respond to commands.

At the moment, I am disabling all my extensions save for three, which I absolutely much have and that is:

ABP
Lastpass
Xmarks

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Alexander Chamessian 3/5/13 4:23 PM
Same here. And when it crashes, it doesn't even put up a crash report. It just shuts down and I have to reopen.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing JustTryingToHelp 3/5/13 4:40 PM
I may have found a fix for this.  I was having numerous instances of the Aw Snap screen and it did seem to be tied to whenever I navigated to FB.  I was also having some BOSD's that were referencing Memory Manager.  Anyhow, I found the suggestion somewhere that I should uninstall Chrome and also delete the "Chrome" folder found C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local, then do a clean install of Chrome.  I did that, and as I was installing Chrome the browser installation popped up with a message in a yellow box that said this: "To make Chrome even faster, we've automatically disabled some extensions that may have been added without your knowledge.  You can enable or disable any extension below. Learn More."  If you look at the attached screenshot, you will see that one of the extensions is called Funmoods 2.1.3 and its description states, "Enhance your facebook chat with smileys, emoticons, winks and much more..."  I can't help but think that perhaps this was the cause of my original misery.  Since the clean install about 6 hours agoo I have had NO Aw Snaps! :)
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Div V. 3/6/13 7:46 AM
UPDATE:

We've updated to a new version of Chrome (version 27). The issue you're seeing now is likely not the same as the original poster so we have started a new thread to talk about crashes. If you are seeing an Aw Snap! crash message, please visit this thread

If you are seeing a different kind of crash (for example, no error message or a message like "He's Dead Jim!"), please visit this Help article. If you still have the issue, please start a NEW thread.

Thanks, all.
_______________________________

Thanks to those who responded with the type of crash that you are seeing. It sounds like most of you are seeing the "Aw Snap!" messaging. If you are seeing a different kind of crash, please post a question in a separate thread as we'll need to investigate the issues separately.

If you are seeing Aw Snap! you can help us further investigate this issue by doing the following:
  1. First, make sure that you have opted to send crash reports to Google (Chrome menu button -> Settings -> Show Advanced Settings -> Under "Privacy," select "Automatically send usage statistics and crash reports to Google")
  2. Once you have this enabled and you see the issue occur, please let us know the crash ID that is generated when the crash happens. You can get the crash ID by typing "chrome://crashes" into the address bar, and locate the crash that occurred at the time (Example crash ID: 270edbd659c2e648).
  3. Please try opening an incognito window (Chrome menu button > New incognito window). Do you still see Aw Snap!? If so, please check your extensions (chrome://extensions) -- are there any extensions enabled here? Please include in your response to this thread the name and ID's of the extensions enabled.
Thanks for the information, folks. I know this is frustrating for you, but these details will be helpful for us to figure out the cause of this issue that you're having.

Cheers,
Div
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Manny O 3/6/13 1:01 PM
Yep Chrome has recently been crashing for me too. Win 8. So weird. Everything was great before but in the last week or so, every 20 mins Chrome crashes
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Kenneth Black 3/6/13 6:17 PM
BOTH are happening. But lately just crashing, with a pop-up box telling me it crashed. It's happening on BOTH laptops I have, each running the Windows 7 OS. Like someone said, the problem is YOU GUYS. NOT us. So fix it.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing PRife 3/20/13 2:51 PM
Looks like I have the same problem as alot of other people, on facebook, on farmville, flashplayer crashes.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome, to no avail. This is really getting ridiculous.
It is NOT my firewall or antivirus, it is the flashplayer.
I have tried to change my shortcut url and that is not possible on my Vista/64 bit.
I believe Google needs to change something, make an effort at least.
Other apps. on facebook work much better than farmville.

What to do?

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing odeho19 3/20/13 5:30 PM
Repeating a "form letter" to help us out does nothing for us. And NOT understanding (i.e. reading what we're actually posting) makes you look dumb. Your "solution(s)" don't work, and are not even really related to what ALL of us are having issues with. So, I'd ask that, in the future, either give us a solution that pertains to OUR direct issue we're discussing, or DON'T POST ANYTHING AT ALL, AND QUIT WASTING OUR TIME.

Your product keeps crashing on ALL of us. It doesn't matter what we're doing, or how many tabs we have open. Almost all of us are experiencing issues with your "flash" player that you're shoving on us. We'd appreciate it if your company would take some of the blame, AND FIX THE PROBLEM.

Thank You.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing paula bryant 3/20/13 5:55 PM
why do i keep crashing ?
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing ladyj555 3/21/13 11:38 AM
Hi Roey,  I also just bought a new laptop with windows 8, I hate IE, so I downloaded Google Chrome.  I can get on facebook, but when I try to play my games like castleville, or others the page won't even load.  I downloaded shockwave & flash player & it didn't help.  I also have gone into setting extensions, malware.  Chrome still doesn't work.    I also have computers with windows 7 & XP  & when I use those 2 computers I get  "aw snap"  every 2 minutes.   Its not on my end I have Verizon Vios Quantum  the fastest internet connection on the web.  Chrome is slow & sluggish.  I agree with everyone else on this form. The problem is with chrome & not out computers.  A brand new computer should be blazing fast.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Veris Prasarntree 3/21/13 11:22 PM
Chrome version Version 25.0.1364.172 m
OS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
I open a new tab, select one of my most visited sites (in this case, http://forums.somethingawful.com) and the Aw Snap message comes up before the page can load.

This only started today and doesn't occur on any other site. I've had previous problems in the past, and tried the four steps without it solving anything, and it would usually go away after several days.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Veris Prasarntree 3/21/13 11:31 PM
Scratch that. I actually reinstalled Chrome the last the Aw Snap message started getting frequent. That wasn't too long ago.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Evolution54 3/21/13 11:48 PM
For anyone experiencing crashes in Chrome due to Shockwave/Flash, you can actually disable the use of the proprietary flash player that Chrome uses. Once disabled, Chrome will use the default Adobe Flash player, assuming it has been installed onto your system.

This workaround worked for me when using Chrome 24 but once I installed Chrome 25, the crashes I experience seem to not be related to the flash player. However, you folks are definitely welcome to try this fix.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing kp.zac 3/22/13 12:27 AM
Exactly!  How is it that a $250bn company with $40bn of cash on hand can't fix their own product and instead tells everyone it's our problem?  This issue has been ongoing for more than 15 months and Google hasn't solved it, much less even take ownership of the issue.

Div, stop pushing the diagnostic test, and start providing solutions.  If you guys would stop pushing a new version every 3 weeks and resolve some of these issues before pushing the next update, we might get a stable version one of these days.

This is pitiful.  Google used to be better than Microsoft, but this, version after version without any real patch or solution, takes the cake.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing WhoRU 3/22/13 8:54 AM
I have done all the 4 steps as you mention under Best Answer by Div V. It still does not work. Please fix. Thank you.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Div V. 3/22/13 9:44 AM
Hi +Veris Prasarntree,

Thanks so much for sending over info on your version, OS, and repro steps. Just to clarify, did you try the four steps after reinstalling Chrome? I know that you said you've had problems in the past so I wasn't sure if you had tried the four steps this time.

More specifically, what happens when you create a new user profile after the reinstall? Does this issue still only occur for the one site ( http://forums.somethingawful.com)?

Thanks for clarifying,
Div

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Div V. 3/22/13 9:45 AM
Hi +WhoRU,

Thanks for trying all four steps (appreciate you taking the time to do so!). When you have the chance, please send along:
  • The version of Chrome that you are using
  • The OS that you are using
  • The exact steps you are taking when you see the "Aw Snap" messaging. Screenshots would be helpful.
Cheers,
Div
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Div V. 3/22/13 9:51 AM
Hi +Kenneth Black,

Thanks for letting us know that it happens on two of your Win7 computers. Have you tried the troubleshooting steps here? Specifically, what happens when you create a new browser user profile

You mentioned that there's a "pop-up box telling [you] it crashed." What does that pop-up box say? Last, what version of Chrome are you using (type chrome://version in the omnibox)?

Thanks in advance for the additional information -- it's important that we isolate the issue you're seeing and figure out exactly where it's happening.

Cheers,
Div
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing odeho19 3/22/13 1:55 PM
So, We only get help if we kiss your ass, is that's the situation here? This is just sickening. This "div. v.", whomever she is, apparently only helps people that bow down and do her bidding, instead of actually telling us how come this product is acting like crap. THIS isn't helpful to ALL of us. Only those that, as I said before, kiss her ass. What a bunch of B.S. YOUR PRODUCT ISN'T WORKING. FIX IT. Or at least give us REAL advice that works.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing katehawk88 3/23/13 12:51 PM
I'm totally at a lose right now. My Google Chrome is saying the aww snap thing constantly also it is so freaking slow Get rrrr and I don't know what to do SIGH
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing PocketBunny 3/24/13 12:34 AM
Yeah any page that refreshes constantly does the same for me. Div is a jerk for pimping the troubleshooting nonsense. I'm THISCLOSE to swapping to Firefox. I really would rather not do that but this is SO ANNOYING and many pages don't work well on Opera, unfortunately. :/
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing PocketBunny 3/24/13 12:38 AM
Funmoods? I don't have anything like that. The only extensions I have are either Google ones or essentials like ABP and Lightshot and Tabcloud. I tried disabling different extensions and it's still happening. Did you find anything else helpful when you were testing stuff out with yours?
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing PocketBunny 3/24/13 12:39 AM
As a caveat, I'd like to say that marking your own answers as "best answer" when it clearly shows that you're the one who marked it as such makes you look even more the fool. Obviously it's NOT the best answer or we wouldn't still be kvetching about this. JS.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing PocketBunny 3/24/13 12:40 AM
No one should have to create a new freaking profile for your product to work. You just look like a jerk for even saying that. Maybe some of us have MORE THAN ONE PROFILE. Did you think of that? No? I assume you didn't since you don't seem very bright/capable of abstract thought or even basic critical analysis of anything. Your "answers" are annoying.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing PocketBunny 3/24/13 12:42 AM
Wow! So much more useful than anything "Div. V" has said. Thanks a bunch, dude! :)
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing PocketBunny 3/24/13 12:44 AM
You are just the WORST sort of person...
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Erek Sataline 3/24/13 9:52 AM
Div, just go to Facebook using ANY version of Windows, XPsp2 or later and you WILL encounter the crash.  Those are ALL THE STEPS necessary to duplicate this issue.  The version 25.0.1364.172 m of Chrome is simply buggy as hell.  Fix it or lose your client base (and as I work in IT, I'll be taking all my customers back to Firefox!)  Before 25.x everything was fine for me.  Now?  I never close Chrome, I merely cease to re-open it.  The issue to isolate is YOUR CODE.  FIX IT.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Christopher Hasse 3/24/13 9:52 AM
This not helpful reply is getting old. maybe IE wasnt so bad afterall
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing JustTryingToHelp 3/24/13 1:45 PM
I posted the following back on March 5th and I continue to have smooth sailing on Chrome 19 days later, no more "Aw Snaps."  Might be worth a try for those who still have this issue:

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing JustTryingToHelp 3/24/13 1:47 PM
Oh, and as for the BSODs, I discovered that the RAM I added to my Sony Vaio was of the wrong voltage...replaced with proper RAM and all good on that issue too.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Evolution54 3/25/13 1:33 AM
I think I finally solved the crashing issues with Chrome 25 in Windows 8 with a complete uninstall and reinstall. It has been about two days or so and I have yet to experience any more crashes even with the majority of extensions enabled.

Granted, this might not work for some as I'm sure I have read elsewhere that the issues continue to persists. However, it's definitely worth a try. If you aren't syncing Chrome, just make a list of your installed extensions or any other customizations you've made and completely delete anything and everything that has to do with Chrome.

It's also obvious that we aren't going to get any useful professional help from any Google employee. All they will do is continue to ask us to give them more information in hopes of delaying things.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing amnon talmor 3/25/13 2:14 AM
I have a solution--why don't you rude dorks separate yourselves from farmville and join the rest of us here in the real world? That should fix your all-caps inducing problem right away!
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing amnon talmor 3/25/13 8:12 AM
All kidding aside, I found uninstalling and re-installing chrome fixed the problem. I did not need to delete any files or folders.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing PocketBunny 3/25/13 3:27 PM
Why don't YOU stop making assumptions and try making productive remarks, Ammon or however you spell it.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing JustTryingToHelp 3/25/13 3:45 PM
I think I have a productive remark, PocketBunny.  Try uninstalling Chrome and then reinstalling it.  Also wipe out your profile folder and let that rebuild.  It takes all of 10 minutes to accomplish this.  When you are reinstalling Chrome, be certain that you don't enable the Funmoods extension from Facebook.  See if that works for you.  I followed those steps and have not had an Aww Snap screen in 20 days.  I go to FB often, but I don't play any games on FB, so I can't say whether you'll have problems playing farmville or anything else like that.  But, it's worth a try.  Good luck!
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing lois hall Hall 3/25/13 9:17 PM
I did not think my computer was crashing because of Google chrome . I thought it was my computer . Since I have read these replies I wonder.. I did download the new flash player a month ago. Some one mentioned it. My firewall is fine. I do not know what Google Chrome I downloaded last month and I too have this happen on facebook while other sites is does not do this..
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Celena Haslett 3/26/13 5:17 AM
I keep getting this too. It is incredibly annoying; it started when I was trying to do coursework. It tells me there isn't enough memory for Chrome, crashes Flash and then gives me the Aw Snap page. And then crashes.
I have tried everything that has been mentioned: scanning my computer, re-installing Chrome, creating a new user profile, checking my firewall... None of it has worked.

Version 25, Windows 7 OS.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing estre 3/26/13 1:23 PM
The same thing has happened to me for weeks. It began at the end of January. My settings are fine. The troubleshooting didn't help. Every time I try to open a new tab while logged in to Facebook or Netflix, the "Chrome not responding" message shows up and is followed by the "Aw snap." I have no problems when I use Firefox.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Div V. 3/26/13 3:30 PM
Hey folks,

This is a reminder:

1. We don't recommend downloading older versions of Chrome for security reasons.
2. As per our Google Product Forum posting guidelines (read up here if you'd like), we don't allow harassing or bullying of other users. Let's keep it friendly, Chromies.

Please refer to my post above with some clarifying questions -- I know this issue has been frustrating for many of you and we'd like to get it resolved.

Cheers,
Div

And WE'D like actual help. Not form letter garbage that doesn't pertain to OUR problems. And also QUIT "liking" your own posts to push them to #1 or make yourself look good for your bosses. We don't pay attention to them, and they're a waste of OUR time. We need ACTUAL HELP. Not a babysitter who is only interested in their own post count.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing BJett 3/27/13 7:03 AM
Version 26.0.1410.43
Mac OS 10.7.5
It seems to happen when ever I close out of chrome and come back into it. It will delay for a log time not loading any pages or settings. Then it will crash show me the Aw Snap! page and eventually start working after that. I have followed all the suggestions on that page to no avail. I will try again to be sure and repost. When it is about to happen I do not even get my new tab apps or anything to show up. Safari and Firefox work when this happens. It seemed to all start when Apple sent out their upadte to disable all older versions of java and flash. I have since, today, disabled java 7 again. I also have deleted all my extensions. I will post back any progress I make.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing BJett 3/27/13 7:34 AM
Try this if you think your issue may be the JAVA 7 or ifd you want java working bakc in Chrome on OSX.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559 -- Java for OS X 2012-006: How to re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 applet plug-in and Web

OPEN TERMINAL and enter the below commands.

sudo mkdir -p /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/disabled

sudo mv /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/disabled

sudo ln -sf /System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle/Contents/Resources/JavaPlugin2_NPAPI.plugin /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin

sudo ln -sf /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Commands/javaws /usr/bin/javaws

java -version

The above command should return: java version "1.6.0_43" If not run Apple updates and reboot.
This may not help all your crashing but it will get java working again and this is when I noticed the issue.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Tony C27 3/27/13 4:30 PM
I tried all four suggestions and chrome keeps crashing.  I'm using Windows 7 and the most up to date chrome.  All other browsers work.  It really not our responsibility to fix this.  Your four suggestions are way to difficult, and inconvenient.  Just fix it.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Evolution54 3/27/13 9:11 PM
Just read that a new version of Chrome is out. Hopefully this will solve the issue of the reported crashes!
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Bonnie Briddlecome 3/29/13 7:40 PM
I love Chrome, but am frustrated at the amount of times I get the Aw Snap! error message.I have followed all 4 steps as suggested, and have found that this error is  ALWAYS on website NoMoreRack.com

I always submit error message to you. Please advise as to how I should proceed.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Polaris431 3/31/13 7:41 AM
You know Chrome is a piece of garbage when it has to completely replace the page AFTER it has already loaded it. I can understand it killing off bad javascript but killing a page that has already loaded?? It seems Google hired a bunch of amateurs to build their browser.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Polaris431 3/31/13 8:10 AM
I think I might have found what is causing this cancerous disease. It appears to be Chrome's built-in support for plugins. If you'll notice, NONE of the suggestions offered by Google includes disabling plugins. Don't confuse plugins with extensions. Extensions are the third party apps you can add to enhance the browser. To view plugins, type in in the browser's url:

chrome://plugins/

Disable everything. Of course most sites won't work without Flash or Java disabled, but disable it anyway. Try using the browser for a while without it just to see whether the Aw snap disappears. Then gradually add in the Flash Player and Java plugins. Then use your browser for a while with just these two. You should use it for at least several hours if not a day to see whether this improves the situation. If things work fine, then add the Shockwave plugin.

Be aware that Chrome supports two versions of Flash. One is its own built-in version that it automatically retrieves and updates periodically. The other is the version you typically download from Adobe and install manually. Personally, I would use that version. You need to disable the built-in version. Just Google how to do that. I did it once but can't remember how I did it.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing BJett 4/1/13 6:33 AM
Nice post. This is a good idea to try. I had done this but forgot to add it to my post as well. I have not had Chrome crash in 4 days so far. just an FYI though. Google technically did not hire anyone. Chrome is based on Chromium a open source project and while google added some things the main support and upgrades comes form this community. They do "donate" and assist in the development though/
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing denice olsen 4/1/13 7:23 AM
Don't know what version, but I am on a brand new Windows 8 laptop and I am sick of the " Aw Snap " something went wrong crap. I hate internet explorer but guess I will have to go back to it if this is how google chrome is going to be. UGH
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Yukimura Sanada 4/1/13 8:03 AM
its impossible to remove aw snap, unless you remove that UI from Chrome engine

but you can make it not shown that oftenly when open webpages that have alot of script  with adjust it

try this

navigate to about:plugins
disable all except flashplayer that you have download from adobe http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

navigate to about:flags
disable everything you can disable

disable all extension

there is another way like  Upgrade your graphic card and RAM

i wish it helps
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Div V. 4/1/13 1:47 PM
This is a duplicate of the post above (to ensure all are able to see it):

UPDATE:

Thanks to those who responded with the type of crash that you are seeing. It sounds like most of you are seeing the "Aw Snap!" messaging. If you are seeing a different kind of crash, please post a question in a separate thread as we'll need to investigate the issues separately.

If you are seeing Aw Snap! you can help us further investigate this issue by doing the following:
  • First, make sure that you have opted to send crash reports to Google (wrench icon -> Under the Hood -> Automatically send usage statistics and crash reports to Google)
  • Once you have this enabled and you see the issue occur, please let us know the crash ID that is generated when the crash happens. You can get the crash ID, by typing "chrome:crashes" into the address bar, and locate the crash that occurred at the time (Example crash ID: 270edbd659c2e648).
Thanks for the information, folks. I know this is frustrating for you, but these details will be helpful for us to figure out the cause of this issue that you're having.

Cheers,

Chrome was crashing 10x / hour
So I just transferred all my history, passwords and bookmarks over to firefox and use it now. It pretty much has all the functionality of Chrome but is more robust.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing nancy calcagni 4/2/13 11:07 AM
Same problem here for the past couple of days..... This started suddenly two days ago.
I am pretty much having this issue on all Zynga games. It makes it almost impossible to play any of them.
Using Chrome, have emptied cache, flash cache, nothing helps. I wish they would fix the flash player, they are well on their way to being worse than IE :( I am so Disappointed in Chrome :(
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Yukimura Sanada 4/2/13 11:25 AM
hun... you dont need good browser to play flash game smoothly... just  use IE and latest flash it will smoother than at Chrome or Mozilla.

if you more like using chrome check this

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Nikola Juric 4/2/13 12:45 PM
1) Open path C:\Users\You\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application and there will be 2 Chrome icons.

2) Open that one called "old_chrome" and then

3) go to Tools->Extensions and delete the extensions that causes Chrome to shut down (usually they are not from google store, mine was some malware that was installed by itself).

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Erin82 4/2/13 7:39 PM
I have Ad Blocker as well.  It doesn't seem to help anything.  I don't think that is the sole reason for my crashes.  Back to Firefox!

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Blopez 4/4/13 8:29 AM
@Div V.  I get 'aw snap' at the Chrome launch page. Can access yahoo but nothing else. If I click a link in a yahoo article, goes back to 'aw snap'. Cannot access gmail, google menu, help, tools, report a problem, etc. - so cannot provide you an error code or disable extensions. But from the other comments here that appears to be a non-solution anyway since evidently the problem is from your end not mine. Also, ALL of my 'favorites' buttons result in 'aw snap'. Virus & spyware scans come out AOK. Created a new user profile but it did no good.  Neither did completely uninstalling then re-installing Chrome.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing JustTryingToHelp 4/4/13 9:40 AM
Have you tried the following:   Uninstall Chrome and then reinstall it.  Also wipe out your profile folder and let that rebuild.  It takes all of 10 minutes to accomplish this.  When you are reinstalling Chrome, be certain that you don't enable the Funmoods extension from Facebook.  See if that works for you.  I followed those steps and have not had an Aww Snap screen in 30 days.

If you've done that and are still having problems, I don't have any other magic advice and I'll just be happy that it somehow magically worked for me.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing sampaguita 4/4/13 10:59 AM
To Div V, I am usually have  ( Automatically send usage statistics and crash reports to Google) on by default so you would have assumedly got these in the system when I first encountered the awesome snapping problem right after the v26 update last Friday (when it rolled out in my area), however I can't send you the crash ID as I was able to rollback to v25 and turn off the automatic updates (took two days of utter frustration). I am glad that someone is looking into this as it appears more and more folks having awe snappers on their screen.

I must comment that I have been using Chrome browser since it was first released, how many years ago was that? and this is the first time ever for a major technical fault. I do wish that you would allow users to keep older and less bloated versions of Chrome, I for one do not need many of the newer features, a streamlined version should be made available IMO.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Youvin Chung 4/4/13 12:01 PM
Same here... why does it keep crashing though? I mean.. it was working fine, then suddenly, every ten minutes, I have to "kill" then "revive" my website back... it's annoying cuz I have a new mac and I wish Google fixes it as soon as possible
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Div V. 4/4/13 12:11 PM
Hi folks,

Just a reminder: crash ID's will be very helpful for us as we're investigating the issue.

Again:
  • First, make sure that you have opted to send crash reports to Google (Chrome menu button -> Settings -> Show Advanced Settings -> Under "Privacy," select "Automatically send usage statistics and crash reports to Google")
  • Once you have this enabled and you see the issue occur, please let us know the crash ID that is generated when the crash happens. You can get the crash ID by typing chrome://crashes into the address bar, and locate the crash that occurred at the time (Example crash ID: 270edbd659c2e648).
Thanks!

Cheers,
Div

I'm not seeing the wrench icon on my Chrome browser.  I see three horizontal lines, but no wrench.  There are wrench icons in Gmail and also here in this forum, but I'm not seeing access to what you've described.

Again:
First, make sure that you have opted to send crash reports to Google (wrench icon -> Under the Hood -> Automatically send usage statistics and crash reports to Google)
Once you have this enabled and you see the issue occur, please let us know the crash ID that is generated when the crash happens. You can get the crash ID, by typing "chrome:crashes" into the address bar, and locate the crash that occurred at the time (Example crash ID: 270edbd659c2e648).

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Div V. 4/4/13 3:11 PM
+JustTryingToHelp: You're absolutely right -- the three lines are the Chrome Menu Button and that's where you can enable the option to send crash reports to Google. Thanks!
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing William O'Reilly 4/4/13 4:32 PM
After trying everything that Google suggested with no success, I finally found a solution other than using IE or Firefox.  I installed the beta version of Chrome and it seems to work. It's not the best solution but seems to work.  Google's suggestions and lack of a proper response is very telling to me. Most of their suggestions wouldn't work because all that I could see in the browser was the "Aw Snap" page.  The only thing I could see in the browser was the version. I've fully drunk the Google kool-aid (browser, phone and tablet). I hope that I don't run into a problem with my phone or tablet and receive this little help.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Thomas Retter 4/4/13 7:17 PM
Just so we're clear. At least a few of us here are not able even to access the Chrome Menu Button, because Chrome crashes "aw snap" before the menu can load.

This problem has developed literally overnight for those in my boat, with Chrome working wonderfully up until it now no longer works at all.

What are your suggestions for those of us who cannot access this menu?

Please see my above statement to see my previous attempts to fix this.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Yukimura Sanada 4/4/13 7:21 PM
im using Google to play flash game too... when i post this i open 2 tab flash game and no freeze

just dont use Pepperflash or  GPU accelleration , i turn off direct 2d accelleration since my video card banned every browser to acces it , set computer at best perfomance . and virtual memory 4096

and my CPu always 24/7 more than a year till now

There hasn't been a wrench icon on Chrome since several updates, to get to this menu item you need to go to the icon with 3 bars on the top right hand corner, then settings, then show advance settings, then under privacy tick box "Automatically send usage statistics and crash reports to Google"
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing ryokoyuy 4/5/13 7:29 AM
I'm having the same problem. I updated my Chrome to version 26 yesterday, and since then it's stopped working entirely. I open it and it goes straight to the "aw, snap!" page. I tried creating a new profile, but it didn't help. I can't access any of the menus either, anything I try to open just shows the "aw, snap" page. Chrome was working just fine until this latest update, and Firefox is working fine as well. I'm running Windows 7. Any suggestions?

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing sampaguita 4/5/13 10:10 AM
Thanks, someone mentioned way back on this thread that v 6.0 was the fastest version, however it is not there on the list.

From V1 at 8.4 Mb Chrome has grown to 31 MB on v 26

Actually as long as Chrome worked I never bothered to check which version was running, I do remember the first versions didn't have print settings, and occasionally there would be twitchy versions, but never like v26.

What's of interest is there is a new (dev) v 27, but I am too afraid to download, my browser is too critical to my work to mess around for another two days. You mentioned that you use a (dev) v 28, how is this?

only there is one google 6 at that list

Mines been crashing on XP, Win7, brand new OS reload, same thing.  Only extension I have is Ad Blocker.  Even tabs that i've killed will show up in the Aw Snap again.   Mine all started when my Yahoo home page got switched, about a month and a half or so ago....but I think thats just coincidence.  But either way, Google, you're once better browser is becoming a pile of junk.  Not back off to Firefox yet, but very close

Have been getting frequent "aw snap" messages lately.  When I open "chrome://crashes", they're not all showing up either.

I'm running chrome on Ubuntu 12.04.  Just upgraded recently (about two weeks ago), but the aw snaps really seem to have come on in the last couple of days.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Robert Wittman 4/6/13 10:48 AM
Is this product from a major international force in the technology business or some fly-by-night rinky dink joke, because it seems like the latter.  This is ridiculous!  I can't go 10 minutes without a crash.  It took me 3 tries just to post this.  And I shouldn't have to be an IT guy to use your product, based on Google's "solutions".  Sadly switching to Firefox..... or worse yet... IE
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Robert Wittman 4/6/13 10:50 AM
What a joke!  3 times just trying to post, then when I finally don't crash and am able to, my post is deleted as soon as I refresh.  I'm done.  This is not a way to run a product from a major company!

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing stfuplzzzz 4/6/13 6:45 PM
My chrome has been crashing all day today, which hasn't really happened in the past. Right now i'm running incognito and I think the crashes only happened in normal mode. Trying to get work done and it crashes for no reason even when i'm not actively using it. I've tried virtually everything besides making my own web browser so...

Seriously i'm not seeing whats so great about chrome anymore these days over Firefox. The syncing between profiles has been a horrible experience (when I tried syncing on my phone the first time, it completely wiped all of my bookmarks and settings permanently), syncing between my desktop/laptop has been annoying with extension popups and all kinds of other annoying things.

And now Chrome is crashing on me every 20 minutes making me lose my work and wasting my time.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Yukimura Sanada 4/6/13 8:01 PM
Yeah.. chrome at default is not that great anymore.. opera with new Webkit engine is better .
btw .. if you disabled all extension, disabled unused plugins and disabled GPU-accelleration i guess all will fine

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Celena Haslett 4/7/13 6:48 AM
I tried incognito, but it still crashed on me- just as much as it did in normal. I have no idea what's causing it, but seeing as I don't have any extensions allowed in incognito, I'm guessing it's on Chrome's end, not mine.

if  v26 is so  Buggy at your computer  why not just  downgrade it  to v25 ??
while wait there is updates that maybe more stable ...

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing sampaguita 4/8/13 7:47 AM
I would be afraid to update to a higher version for some time given the apparent mess which has been created by V26, and the fact that it affects some PC's and not others. I would think that Chrome developers would have to make a lot of patches which might make it hard to get a universal stable platform for some time, and even rolling back to V25 as a starting point might also create problems with a lot of users who are not technically proficient, I am sure that bits of software would be all over the PC, look how long it took me (2 days) to clean out all the upgrade modules with your welcome assistance and that was at the beginning of the crisis. I will stay on v25 and wait.

BTW my graphics card is NVDIA GeForce 7050 with 512 MB memory and I use 3 GB RAM on PC. Maybe my graphics card is old but I don't play games or use any heavy graphic work and the only video I run is the occasional You Tube. If Chrome new versions is going to make folks need to upgrade their PC's then I want out.

Thanks for trying to help but that did not help... 6-hours is not enough time to say you have resolved an issue like this lol. I don't use facebook and I read that same information under the extension tab and I still crash. I uninstall and re-installed Chrome and had no problems for a couple of weeks but now the problems are starting back.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Globetrotter5km 4/9/13 4:08 PM
Agree with all of the above. I uninstalled and re-installed Chrome for Windows 7, worked fine for a few weeks but is back to having the same problems...running slow and crashing. Chrome is starting to be just as unreliable as IE and Firefox smh.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Robert Headley 4/9/13 4:21 PM
It looks like maybe Chrome is exceeding it's socket allowances. Once you go to Chrome://net-internals > Sockets and Flush Sockets, it fixes it for a while.

Is this pipelining related, because I noticed I no longer have that option available in Chrome:flags?

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Yukimura Sanada 4/9/13 5:45 PM
im not sure .. since most unsolved issues is at windows beside XP

i guess its kinda like Hardware accelleration conflict between OS and browser
or not enuf computer resources issues

yeah...... it need alot of adjustment until can run chrome well

but at least it not give any BLue Screen of death when changing theme like at Opera

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Ona Green 4/9/13 6:52 PM
My AW SNAP computer problem has been fixed. It was a MOTHERBOARD ISSUE. My husband is a computer programmer and finally took it upon himself to investigate the AW SNAP problem that had been a problem on my computer for several months.  FIRST, Google Chrome was reinstalled and still my computer crashed.  Then, my entire operating system was reinstalled from SCRATCH....and it made it WORSE.  Finally, it turned out to be a MOTHERBOARD issue!  Once my motherboard was REPLACED everything worked.  He says the AW SNAP messages are masking an underlying computer issue that is much BIGGER than a Internet browser or software or computer virus.  If you are getting the AW SNAP message, you may need a NEW MOTHERBOARD.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Yukimura Sanada 4/9/13 7:05 PM
one thing that im not understand, why chrome has no flags to adjust delay before send AW - SNAP

at Mozilla i can remove issues same like aw snap Totally,  with set the delay to higher than 10 second or infinite
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing ryokoyuy 4/10/13 5:31 AM
My Chrome wasn't just crashing after updating to Version 26, it was never starting at all.

What I did was upgrade it to the latest Dev version (found here: https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/index.html?extra=devchannel#eula) and now it works beautifully. The "recently closed" tab is now under the menu, instead of at the bottom of the new tab page, by the way. If you're having issues, give this a go, working beautifully for me.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing BJett 4/11/13 7:38 AM
I FIXED MY PROBLEM AND HOPE THIS CAN HELP MOST OF YOU.PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ ALL BELOW(I know its long). I have attached a PDF that is a bit easier to read than below.

The following steps worked for me. My issue was the flash plugin conflict. I am on OS 10.7 and the latest Chrome. I too had gone through almost all the steps listed in this blog. I know that not everyone has the same issue and some extensions may be causing this as they are 3rd party apps(step 6) and some may have hardware issues(Step 1). I included these steps to help rule these out for anyone else, as they were not my problem(after a very long process of elimination). My problem was step 7. From the majority of what a lot of you have reported and fixes you tried that have not worked please try to the Flash fix. (Thanks to: Erik Rasmussen, Verol Phillips, and Mr. Ben 1966)

Note: I was having issues even getting to Chrome settings because of the crash. If I waited for the crash I usually could get to settings after. But changing the profile helped me get to settings so I could fix my problem, so I included it. (Steps 2-5: Yes they are from the Aw, Snap! page)

1.        Check your hardware. I am not going to coach you through this. Just try to ensure all your hardware is properly working. (i.e. Diagnostic programs from your manufacturer, third party or built into you bios.)
2.        Exit Chrome.
3.        Find the "Default" folder. It's usually located in the following locations:
a.        Windows
i.        Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\
ii.        Windows Vista/ Windows 7/ Windows 8: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\
b.        Mac OS X:
i.         ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default
c.        Linux:
i.        ~/.config/google-chrome/Default
4.        Rename the folder as "Backup default." (Or rename it “F**Kthis!” as I have done this multiple times on my quest to fix my issue. Its therapeutic.)
5.        Restart Chrome.
6.        Open Chrome and Go to chrome://extensions and delete all of them.
a.        You may want to write down or take a screen shot of all them so you can reinstall one at a time later and check to see if it’s the extensions.
7.        Open Chrome and Go to chrome://plugins (this is not extensions)
8.        Open a working browser(☺OH…the Irony!) and go to http://www.howtogeek.com/103292/how-to-fix-shockwave-flash-crashes-in-google-chrome/ (Thanks Mr. Ben 1966)
a.        You can also disable all of them and re-enable them one at a time to see if another plugin is the issue. I DISABLED THE ABODE DOWNLOADED FLASH AND HAVE NOT HAD A CRASH AT ALL. You can choose to disable Chromes builtin flash but not sure what else it might effect in Chrome.
b.        I also disable the following plugins because I don’t use them. I had disabled Silverlight but have since re-enabled it and all is well.
i.        SharePoint Browser Plug-in
ii.        Shockwave Flash
iii.        WebEx64 General Plugin Container
iv.        Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 10.1.4 - Version: 10.1.4
c.        NOTE: If you have more than one user setup in Chrome you will have to do this for each user account.
9.        IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU: Re-Enable / Re-Install your extensions one by one and wait a day or 2 and see if any of them cause the crash and report it here so others will know.
10.        IF THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR YOU: Very sorry and hope you figure it out. I know it is frustrating. I had this issue for about a month and a half.

Just optional :

maybe you can try disable Windows Hardware accelleration

if at windows XP - right click at dekstop = properties = setting = advance = troubleshoot

move slider to left max = no hardware accelleration

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing SkipperDipper 4/11/13 8:23 AM
I'm looking for a solution as well. For me, it's not Chrome itself that completely crashes. My problem is that the websites I have open in Chrome will suddenly crash. I won't even need to be doing anything on them and they don't always have flash or anything else running (for example, if I'm editing a wordpress post).

I'll have say five or six tabs open with different sites, I'll just be sitting here, maybe not even pressing anything, just reading or something and then bam, for no reason at all, the page crashes and I get the screen I attached and then it usually will crash other or all tabs open as well.

It's a pain because I never know when it's going to happen and it happens constantly with Chrome. I don't have this problem with any other browser and the sites I visit when this happens are never the same ones anyway.

I have 15 different types of problems. Google Chrome has not been any help.  Every day gets worst. The old set up was doing OK for me until until Google Chrome came on board.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Blopez 4/12/13 6:45 AM
As I posted before, I'm getting "aw snap" right from clicking the Chrome icon on my desktop . . Google is unusable at this point; even the help & forums can only be accessed through IE or FF and their lame responses are incomprehensible techno-babble to me. I'd like to be able to click my Chrome icon and just have it work, like before. Makes no sense to require me to download extensive technical instructions on (1) how to fix the problems their programming has caused (which according to forum posts from other more-tech-savvy-than-me users, do not even work, were off the cuff & untested suggestions, and were a waste of their time) and (2) access Google from another browser to send them crash codes (which the settings I set up when I originally downloaded Chrome years ago are supposed to forward to them automatically). I have neither the computer knowledge nor the inclination to jump through hoops for the privilege of utilizing their system. If they're unable or unwilling to make Chrome EASILY accessible for users again, I wish they'd just say so instead of leaving us hanging. Then I can begin the tedious process of reproducing my somewhat extensive list of "bookmarks" on IE or FF, which I've delayed doing thus far because . . . I'm . . well . . . lazy, I guess. Easier to wait & hope for an automatic download fix !?!?

Hi,

Chrome has been displaying the «Ah! Snap» message since two weeks ago. I can't even log in. The browser won't let me open any page or even manage bookmarks. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall (which I did today) the browser, but it didn't work. I'm using Firefox and Opera with no problem, but I really need to import the bookmarks from Chrome. I can open an «Incognito page», but when I try to load any page the «Snap» message comes up again. How can I get my bookmarks? I really need that :(
I can't disable any extensions since I cannot access to any Chrome function (I can open an incognito page but it won't allow me to do anything else :(

OS: Vista

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing MrsSpooky Jones 4/14/13 6:21 AM
Hi, This started for me last night.  I can't even check my extensions, but I went and renamed the default folder for Chrome in my ~/Library/Application Support/Chrome folder.  Restarted the browser and I got one page loaded then within seconds, "aw snap" showed up. I couldn't even get to the settings to see if I had crash reporting turned on.

What I did to resolve it was save my bookmarks file onto my desktop then used MacKeeper to completely deinstall Chrome.  Downloaded it again and installed it, then moved my bookmarks back to the Default folder and now it works.

Don't know what happened, but a fresh install seems to have resolved it for me (at least for now).

I'm giving Safari another try.  This latest version of Chrome is the slowest (hangs until everything on the page has loaded), flash crashes on a regular basis, etc.

Firefox is very sluggish too, which is why I went to Chrome.

So far, the latest version of Safari has been working out beautifully.  I don't know what platform you are on, but they make it for Windows too.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing sampaguita 4/19/13 12:13 AM
I agree, the awesnap freezing of v26 started for me 3 weeks ago and I didn't have a backup browser but was able to rollback to V25 and shut off the automatic updates (no easy task).

I also wonder why Google is not committing more resources to this problem which must be affecting a sizeable percentage of the Chrome Browser user base. OK Chrome browser is free, but its a major portal into other Google products. every week which goes by is loss of credibility for the platform.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing MrsSpooky Jones 4/19/13 7:10 PM
You can export your bookmarks to an html file - most other browsers will import it.  I went back to Safari and it's really zippy and nothing's crashed in over a week.

You don't have to use IE, give Safari a try.  I have no idea what it's like on a PC though.

Interestingly, I use chrome on my work PC and it works great.  Must be an older version.

Flash has been crashing on my chrome browser for almost a year. Then it got to where I couldn't open a page and every one of them was crashing.  I did a delete and complete reinstall and that seemed to help.  Shortly afterwards I went back to Safari, which is working great

Chrome used to be a better browser than Safari, not any more.   I would say first try the delete and reinstall (but export your bookmarks first).  If that doesn't do it, try another browser.

I know, annoying, isn't it?

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing sampaguita 4/25/13 1:18 AM
I am sure that Google could resolve the v26 awesnap crashing quite quickly if they wanted to give more resources to the problem.

Since not all PC's crash, it does seem to be a connected with the user's PC hardware. Maybe Google has decided that the percentage of failed V26 platforms is not sufficient to commit more engineers, or maybe they just don't care since Chrome Browser is free of charge (although IMO its THE gateway to all other google products if you use a PC).

I am staying on v25 for a while until they issue v27 or v 28, and then will try to see if they have resolved these issues. If not then will move to another browser reluctantly as I thought Chrome was most excellent up to now.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing BJett 4/26/13 6:37 AM
Tj YVR your problems sounds much like mine. Try the Flash fix. I know its hard to get to settings but if you can once it crashes try the 2 options.

2 options:
1. Systems Preferences > Flash Player > Advanced, and I deleted "Browsing Data and Settings."
2.Open the attached document if the above does not work.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing BJett 4/26/13 6:49 AM
MrsSpooky Jones, and All others,

It sounds like you fixed your issue when you reinstalled and then later in the blog it looks like it came back. This must be a plugin or extension that is being downloaded and installed. Do you know what updates or extensions you installed between the 2 occurrences? Removing one of the flash files in plugins helped me. (because chrome can potentially have 2 files of flash installed the built-in and the downloadable one)
1.This is found under: chrome://plugins
2. Then click on details in the top right corner.
3. Scroll down to  Flash and if it says 2 files remove one.

or try

Systems Preferences > Flash Player > Advanced, and I deleted "Browsing Data and Settings."

I have had flash and Java cause more issues in browsers during my time as an IT than anything else. All the people complaining here have valid frustrations and yes chrome or Chromium should develop a 64bit browser and solve most of Chrome's issues but until that time hope this helps you guys.

Yukimura Sanada has a bit mor of an intriqute post, http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/dKBbKGpvQeI,
if any of you want to try and my PDF should be attached in the post above to  Tj YVR or look on page 6.

Good Luck!!

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Anita Glasier 4/27/13 7:40 AM
Google Chrome is no longer reliable.  It's just that simple.  I'm forced to change search engines because of these constant technical difficulties which are widespread.  Given the number of complaints, it's not the users - it's the hardware.

Unfortunate for those of us who liked that search engine but thankfully, there are alternatives.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing sampaguita 4/27/13 8:43 AM
B Jett, thanks for sharing your fix and it doesn't surprise me that it may be a flash or shockwave problem causing the awesnap 26 problems as I have noticed some problems from time to time on previous versions of chrome, although in the past quite easy to resolve in the settings without the system crashing each time you try to open a new tab.

HOWEVER, you said its taken you a month and half of screwing around (pardon my English) to resolve the problem for you and that's the real point. Previous versions of Chrome has some minor problems easily resolved as I said, but nothing like this complete crash experienced by some users. I don't mind going under the hood (where's that icon) from time to time but not for the time you spend, I like Chrome, but not to that extent! It seems to be this version was released before it was properly tested and that the resources available for chrome are very low in priority from Google. As an example the google map robot changed my business location on the map without warning about a week ago, and when I found out and sent a message with the correct location (the previous one I had for 6 years), I got an instant reply, a call the next day to verify my data and they corrected in within 24 hours. I guess they could be sued for false map info, but not for a failed browser.

Its too bad, I though Chrome as brilliant in its early days and still the best browser up to v26. Waiting to see what they come up with before checking out Firefox or Opera.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing BJett 4/30/13 10:02 AM
I agree, sampaguita that Google could provide better support for Chrome. They are still relying too much on the open source Chromium community and now that Google has taken and rebranded it they should contribute more, honestly most people have no idea what Chromium is. As an IT I understand the difficulty in determining what the true problem in any situation could be but honestly if Google Helped Chromium build a 64bit browser like every other browser out there. Then Issues with flash, Java and the fact that they no longer support their latest releases in 32bit browsers would go away in Chrome.  Until then good luck all!
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing BJett 4/30/13 10:07 AM
Lori did you try disabling your plugins? I have an earlier post with some possible solutions. Have you tried those? What did you install today or did you update Chrome earlier today? If you updated chrome there are some instructions to revert back to the older version in this conversation on earlier pages. If you installed flash or a new plugin or extension then try my fix posted above and let me know if it works. Also are you on MAC, Windows? and what version of Chrome are you on? (go to settings then select about google chrome)

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Abby Jean Kocher 5/3/13 9:34 AM
I get the "Aw, Snap!" message on every webpage I open. I opted in to crash reports to try to get the crash ID and navigated to several websites, each visit resulting in an "Aw, Snap!" message, just as before. However, when I went to check the crash IDs, it said no recent crashes had been reported. I tried a few more times, every website crashed, still no IDs on the list (I closed the page, refreshed the list, opened new tabs, etc., nothing added IDs to the list).

I tried an incognito window, which crashed in the same manner.

I found my plug-ins, and you say to let you all know, but who do I let know and how do I go about it? Am I supposed to tell you? Email somebody? This last instruction isn't very clear.

I should also note that I'm on a Mac. I followed all the instructions on the Chrome Help webpage for the "Aw, Snap!" problem, as well, and nothing worked.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing BJett 5/3/13 10:20 AM
Abby,

Who's instructions are you following? What did you do after you found your plugins? I suggest trying to disable Silverlight and Flash to see if those are the culprits. I posted a PDF a couple of times and am in the process of reviewing and updating it with some of the others suggested solutions.

All, Some notes on posting.

Please address a person in your post if you are responding to a particular person's post or suggested fix. "Post Reply" simply puts your post in the conversation with no regards to which post you clicked reply on.
If you are simply asking Google to "fix it", complain, or bash its not worth the everyone having to go through, all those, to find suggested solutions and feedback. Make your posts helpful like Abby and some others. Include what you are doing, what you tried, and other issues. If you simply post its broke or "it does not work" those of us that want to help have not point to start from to find out what you tried. Complain and vent all you want just include helpful info along with it.

Not a Google Employee by the way just a user who solved his issue and wants to help.

Is there any way we can actually contact google for help with this problem (aw snap) that a huge amount of folks are having? I LOVE chrome but have to use other browsers if I want to use the internet! Absurd!
At least acknowledge the problem and tell us it really is beta and you are working on it diligently!

Obviously google waited for us users to come up with the solution...well we didn't!

Your turn Google Chrome!

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing inkgirl 5/4/13 8:36 AM
Agreed. Thank you for posting this, it's brilliant and needed to be said. It's total crap. we need answers not a flippin' "form letter" which does absolutely none of us a damn bit of good. Like you said, it makes them look dumb.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing KDelphi 5/5/13 3:53 PM
This does not work (as you can see from the complaints) It is a shame, as I really liked google chrome, but, I've got no brand loyalties, they're all just Capitalists to me, so back to Firefox (which has it's own problems with Mix DJ installing itself) Why, oh, why didn't I save up and buy an Apple

this is such an annoying issue, of late it has got worse.  Playing a vid used to be the classic - Shockwave the culprit but now it does the Aw Snap when I try to load google mail as well.  This is so pathetic, I agree suggestions are no use - FIX IT!!

I'm sick of my google crashing and the stupid "Aw snap" makes it even more irritating.  I guess I'll just switch to using Firefox.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Hillary E 5/8/13 1:53 PM
This "Aw Snap" malfunction has been happening to me nonstop for the last month at least. I've tried everything that has been suggested and nothing has made it stop. I've been copying and pasting links in safari to try to get them to open and that finally works. So I know it's something with chrome. It is getting to the point where that "aw, snap" message pops up and my page fails to load that I am instantly enraged. Help, please! I just want it to stop! I have no extensions enabled, have tried incognito window, recently selected crash reports to be sent to google...I'm out of ideas. Would re-installing chrome be an option? I have a macbook pro. Typing "chrome://crashes" into the bar didn't give me anything but an error message.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Yukimura Sanada 5/8/13 2:48 PM

some works methode to fix aw snap usually is downgrade it to previous version, or Optimize OS at best perfomance.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Barbara Lallement 5/8/13 3:20 PM
I have been getting Snap, when I am playing a game, Castleville, after I have been in Chrome for awhile. Once I re-load game it works fine, mostly. I will call Mac suppor tomorrow and see if the might have an answer for me. I use Chrome only for Zynga, rest of the time I use Safari, when I am on Face Book or Yahoo. I have a Max OSX-Snow Leopard.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Terrence Garner 5/8/13 9:13 PM
Vista? Me too. Our systems are becoming outdated seems to be a common answer. When
I did a system recovery Chrome did work better but I still think other browsers are working better for our computers. You might want to think twice before using I-tunes as well, similar problems.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing BJett 5/9/13 6:32 AM
Hillary  Epperson,

I know you removed your extensions but did you check your plugins

chrome://plugins

Open them and click details in the top left corner
scroll down to the Adobe/Shockwave Flash section and if there are 2 files disable one of them. (picture attached)
Close chrome and reopen.

Good luck!!

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Quandary1 5/10/13 7:34 AM
I have been having problems with Google Chrome since the last update which I think was in late March. Nothing else on my computer had changed. I have had to download Firefox to use until Google Chrome is fixed but I don't like Firefox as well while playing Farmville, Chrome worked better with Farmville but I can't play the game properly if the browser crashes every few minutes. I hope Google fixes this soon. If not, then maybe I should experiment with other browsers and see if there is another one I like better than Firefox. Too bad that the people working at Google won't take responsibility and fix the problem and just tells us to clear our cash and reboot our computer and disable add-ons, etc. I wish they wouldn't force an update on us that hasn't been properly debugged.

Thank you.

Particularly when I am playing games on POGO.COM    ...   Is leaving GOOGLE the only answer ???

the AW SNAP only happens when using the Google Chrome browser. It does NOT happen when using Safari.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing mxvPhoto 5/12/13 8:20 PM
Chrome keeps crashing my MacBook Pro (10.6.8).
Not only does it crash, but it won't allow an 'escape' and I can't access anything else on my computer when this occurs. I actually have to power down, which is not good for the computer.
Usually occurs when on Facebook.
Looks like this has been an issue for a very long time.
Google??
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing susie lawrence 5/13/13 6:23 AM
well, can you please fix this - it is now three months later and the problem continues to exist and frustrate. I will stop using chrome if it continues, I have most up to date chrome and java so there is nothing else i can do - it is in your court now (again)
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Barkha_MRU 5/13/13 11:02 PM
Dear Div,

I'm afraid you're not understanding the matter - maybe that's why Google isn't doing anything about it?? - what most users are talking about is not the "aw snap!" message which is in itself very annoying and recurrent, but about Google Chrome crashing altogether ie the window itself closing down unexpectedly. We can deal with a couple of "aw snaps" but when your whole browser stops working and closes unexpectedly, it's VERY ANNOYING. I've lost data in this manner.

It's happening very frequently and if this isn't fixed, a substantial part of Google Chrome users will switch to Firefox.

Grateful if you could actually LOOK INTO THE MATTER rather than assume this is an "aw-snap" problem.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Yukimura Sanada 5/14/13 3:04 AM
if you experiencing aw snap so badly, fistly what to do is get another browser.

then check these slowly one-by-one

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Quandary1 5/14/13 7:49 AM
Mine too! My issue with Google Chrome started a few weeks ago right after an update. It has been shutting down or stops working every few minutes ever since. What happens to me is that the browser will suddenly shut down with no messages or warnings and when I click on the Google Chrome thingy at the bottom of the screen it will say:

Google Chrome didn't shut down correctly. To reopen the pages you had open, click Restore.

Other times the screen goes sort of foggy (all print gets lighter than it was) and I get a popup that says:

Google Chrome as stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...

Then after a while I get a popup that says:

Google Chrom has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Then when I try to restart Google Chrome I get:

Google Chrome didn't shut down correctly. To reopen the pages you had open, click Restore.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Carl Wolfe 5/14/13 5:42 PM
My has just started crashing really bad yesterday and it is very frustrating when I am trying to do school work. Since this is a consistent problem, I will be forced to go to another browser.  I didn't have to enable the "send reports to google" option. It has always been enabled.  I have had my computer with Windows 8 since February and this is getting worse instead of better.  I have used Google exclusively for at least 5 years without any of these issues.

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing NMCAIA 5/15/13 8:51 AM
And why do TWO banners announce the crash?  Isn't one enough for the foolishness?
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Woof17 5/15/13 1:25 PM
I have found that when forums don't work, it occasionally helps to notify the head honcho.  With Google the boss's name is Eric Schmidt, and the address and phone of Google, Inc. is as follows:
Address
1600 Amphitheatre Parkway
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA 94043
United States - Map
+1-650-2530000 (Phone)
+1-650-2530001 (Fax)

The reason this (sometimes) works is that stuffing the "big cheese's" fax and snail mail with complaints gets them sufficiently annoyed to actually do something, because they do not wish to be bothered in their ivory towers where they keep busy counting up their stock options.  I bet you $1000 that the upper level managers have absolutely no knowledge of the issues involved.

So, how about that "self-healing software" that was a buzzword about 10 years ago?

is it Valid?

goto your plugins at by typing chrome://plugins in the address bar

Open them and click details in the top left corner

Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Russell Orrell 5/18/13 2:03 PM
I did all this and it is still crashing.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing Carl Wolfe 5/18/13 4:05 PM
I switched to Firefox right after I posted this. Not one crash since then. Goodbye Chrome.  Firefox even imported ALL my bookmarks so I didn't have to start completely over.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing mxvPhoto 5/22/13 7:27 AM
Does this also apply to Mac? I can't find your original post.... and can't find where the Chrome plugins are, even with a search.
Chrome consistently crashes my Mac while scrolling on Facebook. It is not even 'escape-able' (as in holding down the option key with the escape key). Everything on my computer is frozen except for the mouse arrow - altho it has no effect on any window. I end up having to shut the Mac down with the power button. Bad.
Thanks for any assistance. Am now using Firefox again but liked Chrome for certain aspects.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing fordmexico 5/22/13 7:34 AM
Chrome has been unstable since the last update.  It crashes within minutes of opening Chrome.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no improvement.  I have tried installing both Chrome and the Beta.
Re: Google Chrome keeps crashing BJett 5/22/13 11:40 AM
mxvPhoto,

You get to plugins by typing chrome://plugins into the address bar. This is for Mac.

You can also try opening chrome from Terminal. First make sure Chrome is completely closed or you will get an error something like: [2211:519:0522/143450:ERROR:process_singleton_mac.cc(106)] Unable to obtain profile lock.
To ensure Chrome is closed:
Press command + option + esc keys together (like Ctrl+Alt+Del)
Select Chrome form the list and force close it.

Copy and paste the below into you terminal application

/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome --disable-extensions

If chrome works after doing the above terminal command then it  is one of your extensions causing the crash.

or

/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome --disable-plugins

If chrome works after doing this terminal command then it  is one of your plugins that is causing the crash.

If it still will not work after trying the above two commands it most likely is related to a bad profile try pasting the below command. It will open chrome as root. If it works then the problem is somewhere in the user profile. (Chrome should work if some one else logs into your mac)

sudo /Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome

The above command will prompt you for the root's (administrator's) password.

Good Luck All!

[This is a duplicate of the thread below to help ensure that all previous posters are notified]
