|Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Scott221||11/7/12 9:52 AM|
Silverlight not appearing in Chrome plugin list and therefor causing media playback issues. Tried reinstall of both Chrome and MS Silverlight. Works with other browsers, but not with Chrome. Anyone else having similar issue?
Chrome issue or MS issue? Tried all the 'tricks,' but as of right now I have to use Chrome and Firefox for different things, and I'd rather not have to do that.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Mikey_D||11/7/12 12:34 PM|
Has always worked fine for me until sometime earlier today. Trying to re-install from the Microsoft site says I already have the latest version of Silverlight installed.
Still works without a problem in IE and Firefox.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Scott221||11/7/12 12:42 PM|
Same. Happened this morning sometime. Just dealing with it for now and hoping for a fix soon.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||AndrewzN||11/8/12 4:05 AM|
Same problem here.
Happened after I upgraded Chrome, yesterday.
Going to about page says Version 23.0.1271.64 m
Do you all have v 23?
This looks very bad.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Mikey_D||11/8/12 1:00 PM|
Same here...Version 23.0.1271.64 m
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||nns6561||11/8/12 6:51 PM|
I'm having the same issue with 23.0.1271.64 m. old_chrome.exe, version 22.0.1229.94 m for me, works just fine.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Renira||11/8/12 9:34 PM|
It seems my chrome updated fine keeping Silverlight intact, but no luck for my hubby. He's in the same boat as you guys...we've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Silverlight a dozen times (doing clean uninstalls manually and using the FixIt deal). He hasn't tried a reinstall of Chrome yet, but after reading that yours didn't work, I think we might forgo that option. We've tried to install from a clean boot and just about everything else we can think of...no luck. =/
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Renira||11/8/12 9:36 PM|
And yes...his is also working in Firefox.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||thorseye||11/9/12 4:18 AM|
I've got the same issue. I'm promted to install the Silverlight plugin, but the installation process tells me I've got the latest Silverlight installed.
This happened after Chrome was upgraded to Version 23.0.1271.64 m.
Silverlight works fine in Firefox and Internet Explorer.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Valkyrio||11/9/12 12:38 PM|
Yep, having the same issue. Not listed, when trying to re-install says already installed.

Thanks for reporting this issue. To help us troublshoot, can you answer the following questions:
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Miles Nelson||11/9/12 6:20 PM|
I also had the problem. I discovered it while using Netflix, I contacted that company and their tech department confirmed that Silverlight just made a change that has caused Chrome Browser to longer work with Silverlight.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Miles Nelson||11/9/12 6:30 PM|
1. Chrome Version: 23.0.1271.64m
2. OS Version: Win XP SP 3

4. Netflix player asks to install SIlverlight plugin, once installed, message repeats, plugin still not listed
5. Anti-virus: Avast (Personal/free version) ver: 7.0.1466
This problem happened about 2:00pm PST today.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Valkyrio||11/9/12 7:19 PM|
Version 23.0.1271.64 m
It is not
No error message - Netflix simply keeps saying "install silver light."
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||steverivasone||11/9/12 7:43 PM|
Google Chrome 24.0.1312.5
Microsoft Security Essentials
I noticed this issue when running chrome beta. When the beta channel updated to v23 all my plugins disappeared from the about:plugins page. I switched to standard chrome and the issue went away. Same thing others are describing. Silverlight is not listed. Same thing with Java
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Renira||11/10/12 12:08 AM|
1. Chrome version: 23.0.1271.64 m
2. OS: Windows 7 Pro x64
3. Plugins: Silverlight is not found.
4. Netflix player asks to install SIlverlight plugin as does the Silverlight website. Once installed, message repeats, plugin still not listed.
5. Antivirus: Windows Security Essentials. Uninstalled after downloads were being auto-removed. Fixed download issue, but Silverlight problem still exists.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||ZimmWisdom||11/10/12 2:40 AM|
1. Chrome Version: 23.0.1271.64
2. OS: Win 7
3. Plugins: Silverlight not Found (Nor Google Talk)
4. D&D Character builder simply asks that I install Silverlight, even though it claims it's installed when I try.
5. Antivirus: Avast!
My Google Talk plugin for Hangouts and gmail calls also doesn't work and asks me to install it all the time.
I've re-installed chrome 4 times, restarted the computer 6 times, uninstalled and re-installed silverlight and google talk 3 times and nothing has fixed these plugins in regard to chrome.
I did notice the google talk and silverlight plugins were working in Internet Explorer. Frustrating...

1. Chrome version: 23.0.1271.64 m2. OS: Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) ServicePack2
3. chrome://plugins: No. Silverlight is no longer listed as being installed.
4. error message: N/A (Websites ask for Silverlight to be installed.) Trying to install Silverlight again returns the message listed below.***
5. Anti-Virus: Microsoft Security Essentials
If you need to reinstall Silverlight, you should uninstall Silverlight before attempting to reinstall it.
Note: Silverlight still works normally for me when using Internet Explorer 9.0.10 or Firefox 16.02 web browsers.

|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||ranthon007||11/11/12 6:53 PM|
Best thing to do is to go to "About Google Chrome" and then hit "Report and issue." With enough people doing this they will get on it quickly. There are no work arounds other than to use a different browser.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Matthew Soler||11/11/12 9:09 PM|
You can revert to old version of Chrome without re-installing by creating a shortcut to "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\old_chrome.exe"
This will launch the previously installed version of Chrome and Silverlight should work. Confirm by going to Menu> About Google Chrome. You should see something like version 22.x.xxxx.xx
I imagine this has to do with some of the security changes Google has made for Chrome. *.crx manifests no longer will launch from third party sites either. They want everything installed from their Chrome Web Store.
IE10 on Windows 8 is taking a similar approach too. No longer supporting browser plugins at all. They are going so far as to deprecate their own plugin Silverlight in favor of HTML5.

4. There is no error. Appear the usual message from microsoft requesting to install silverlight. But I already have silverlight installed. And if I try to install it again, said that i already have that version of silverlight.
5. Windows Defender
There is coincidence on the fact of the Google Chrome from now is not open in the desktop of windows, but like a application from windows modern ui (metro)?
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Mikey_D||11/12/12 8:07 AM|
I now have Silverlight working with Chrome 23.0.1271.64 m.
After checking chrome://plugins/ again, I noticed that Java had an update to be installed (Java 7, Update 9). After installing the update, my problem was solved, and Silverlight is working again.
Hope this helps anyone that finds they have a similar situation.
Thank you to everyone here for the helpful discussion on this topic.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Matthew Jeanes||11/12/12 3:06 PM|
I was having the same problem, installing the Java update got Netflix working in Chrome again for me.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||TenaciousBe||11/12/12 4:04 PM|
Thanks for the help Jacky! Okay, here's where I sit.
Chrome version 23.0.1271.64 m
I also just updated Java as others have suggested, but after doing so and restarting my laptop, still no luck. I did just do a system restore a couple of days ago for some unrelated issues, which I assume rolled back the Java, but everything is back up to date now.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||shindo1687||11/12/12 7:01 PM|
Maybe same problem here.
Try to disable Java DTPlugin by delete registry below.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||ZimmWisdom||11/12/12 7:16 PM|
Holy crap, this worked.
I only had to disable the first registry entry, as suggested in the comment it was from:
WOW, what a F$&^ing weird way to solve this. All my plugins are available in Chrome again.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||johninbigd||11/12/12 7:46 PM|
Yep, same here. I used to have this problem when I was on the beta channel, so I backed off to the regular release and it started working again until a day or so ago. Now it's hosed again in Chrome, but works just fine in other browsers. So freaking annoying.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||johninbigd||11/12/12 7:49 PM|
1. Version 23.0.1271.64 m
2. Windows Vista 64-bit
3. Silverlight no longer listed in plugins
4. Netflix and xfinitytv.comcast.com cannot play videos because Chrome no longer has a Silverlight plugin
5. Microsoft Security Essentials
This exact problem happened once before when I was on the beta channel, so I must have been using a beta version of 23. I downgraded to a regular release and the problem went away, only to return with the latest mainstream update.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||AndrewSeburn||11/13/12 6:49 AM|
I tried all the uninstall tricks and such to no avail, but what finally worked was to:
Netflix then worked.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||TenaciousBe||11/13/12 9:36 AM|
Yargh. Tried editing the reg value, tried deleting it as suggested a few posts ago... still no luck. Man, this latest Chrome update just seems buggy as all hell, heard all kinds of problems from different people with it. Guess I'll just wait for another update... or open up Firefox for the first time in years. Haha.

|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||FelixHCat||11/13/12 12:29 PM|
Same Issue. Very problematic-- been using Opera for Netflix in the meantime.
1. Version 24.0.1312.5 beta-m
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Miles Nelson||11/13/12 1:46 PM|
Finally got it fixed. Forget doing the fancy fixes just follow this process:
1. Close all Browsers & internet related programs
3. Uninstall Microsoft Silverlight
4. Reinstall Java jre
You have to uninstall both, trying only one does not work. Reinstall must do Java first.
After I did these steps everything seems to be working fine. Looks like the problem came when Chrome did an update and Java also had an update. Somehow these two items caused a failure within the Chrome operations.

Thats the first solution that worked for me, now netflix is back!
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||BornHeretic||11/14/12 9:09 AM|
I fixed this by running the Java updater to take J6 from r33 to r37 and ALL of my missing plugins magically reappeared
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||megaproxy||11/14/12 11:22 AM|
It seems to still be broken. If i click the .crx file once it is downloaded, it re-downloads the file and then says "apps, extensions, and user scripts cannot be added from this site"
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||megaproxy||11/14/12 11:34 AM|
I have found a way round this silly warning in chrome.
To install the crx file, go to chrome://chrome/extensions/
This also fixed my silverlight issue so THANK YOU SOOO MUCH :D
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||Goldwhyn||11/14/12 12:12 PM|
Coren the workarounds work and Megaproxy thanks for the insight for installing them. Everything seems to be working again; thank you all.
|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||solicitme1973||11/15/12 7:05 PM|
This is what solved it for me. Once I installed the Java critical security update, the Silverlight plugin showed up once again in chrome://plugins and Netflix bgan working again immediately.
I've passed the word onto other threads.

2. Windows 8 pro
3. Silverlight is not displayed as a plugin even though it is installed on the system and Firefox and IE 10 do detect it.
4. When visiting a page that uses Silverlight the page asks to install Silverlight in order to be able to play Silverlight content.
5. Windows Defender + Comodo firewall.

|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||TenaciousBe||11/22/12 4:51 AM|
Sad to report, I updated to the Chrome 24 beta, and after an uninstall/reinstall of Silverlight, it's still not working. I do see more plugins showing up on the chrome://plugins page, 14 now as compared to the 7 or 8 that showed up in Chrome 23 Stable, but still no luck with Silverlight. If it helps, I also installed Chrome Canary (25) and it is working there. Might just use that for a while.

Thanks for these workarounds. The Silverlight one worked as described. The only issue I had was installing the plugin. Had to go to the extensions page in Chrome to install the plugin.

Running 24 Beta and reinstalled Silverlight. Still not working. Sad.

|Re: Silverlight plugin not working in Chrome||johninbigd||11/28/12 8:57 PM|
Version 24.0.1312.25 beta-m has resolved this issue for me. Thanks! I was getting pretty frustrated with having to use other browsers for sites that use Silverlight.
