|Chrome spell checker doesn't work||kanders||10/2/11 6:37 AM|
Selected language, checked " spell check this field" Chrome spell checker still doesn't work !
I.E. tools MUCH better!
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||wár17 §||10/2/11 8:45 AM|
Do you mean Chrome spell checker does not correct errors, or that it does not work as well as you like it to?
What version of Chrome are you using? A better spell checker is coming.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||kanders||10/2/11 10:36 AM|
I doesn't work at all; it doesn't identify errors, it doesn't correct spelling errors
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||kanders||10/2/11 10:40 AM|
I guess I'm using the latest version of Chrome, I just downloaded it a few days ago because my gmail doesn't load correctly on I.E. 8 anymore and I.E. 9 Is not available for VISTA O.S.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||wár17 §||10/2/11 10:46 AM|
In the Options > Under the hood> Lanaguage and spell checker settings, did you enable Spell Checker?
If you are using a language other than English, some languages (eg., Chinese), do not have a spell checker.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||kanders||10/2/11 10:57 AM|
Yes, selected language( English,) checked " spell check this field" Chrome spell checker still doesn't work ! If there's another way of "enabling" it, please advise.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||wár17 §||10/2/11 12:07 PM|
In Language settings, delete "English", leaving only "English (United States)" and restarted Chrome.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||kanders||10/2/11 3:04 PM|
It has been set to"English, (United States) When I mispell a word, it is underlined in red but offers no correct spelling options.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||wár17 §||10/2/11 3:15 PM|
You need to right click on the underlined word to see the correct spelling options.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||Sudin Banerjee||10/2/11 3:47 PM|
hi wár17 §
here is same problem,,,,,
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||kanders||10/2/11 3:54 PM|
Now is the time for all geed men to come to the aid of ther country. Unless "geed" is a real word in the English (United States) dictionary, which of course it is not, the spell checker did not identify it as mispelled.
I thank you for trying to help sir but Chrome spell check is in fact useless.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||wár17 §||10/2/11 3:54 PM|
Sudin, did you try the solutions posted above?
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||wár17 §||10/2/11 4:02 PM|
kanders, if you want to write Spell Check in Chrome off, then do so. But most users do not have the same issue as you.
Sounds like spell checker is not finding the dictionary. If you have not done so, back up your bookmarks and do a clean install of chrome. Delete the chrome and all user data, then reinstall the latest version.

Thanks for checking, it seems to be working okay.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||rjgonza||1/4/12 11:38 AM|
Has there been any headway with this issue for anyone here? I cannot even turn off the spell check option so that I stop seeing the red line on ALL words.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||wár17 §||1/4/12 11:45 AM|
rigonza, spell checker works fine in latest Stable channel. What happen just before you had problem with spell checker? Reverse whatever you did.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||rjgonza||1/4/12 11:49 AM|
yea... I would love to reverse whatever I did, but all I did was get an update for chrome. I have even tried reinstalling.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||wár17 §||1/4/12 11:55 AM|
If re installing does not work, than creating a new profile will. Back up your bookmarks first.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||rjgonza||1/4/12 11:59 AM|
Tried the profile trick as well, is there a way to bring up chrome in a safemode or something, I think it may be an extension I have installed.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||JackyH||1/4/12 12:04 PM|
Try opening an incognito window of Chrome (Shift+N); what happens?
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||rjgonza||1/5/12 8:34 AM|
Looks like it is the same
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||JackyH||1/5/12 11:55 AM|
Just to double check +rjgonza, what language settings do you have for your spellcheck? Wrench Menu>Settings>Under the Hood>Web Content>Language and spell-checking settings?
In addition, what extensions do you have installed? (type chrome://extensions/ into the omnibox)
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||moldeck||1/15/12 6:33 PM|
Same problem, I have installed chrome several times and it still does not spell check. I opened up the incognito window of Chrome and it did work and is working on thesss (this) post. but does not on hotmail, gmail, nothing works but this post!
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||moldeck||1/15/12 6:43 PM|
closed everything out and reopened, gmail has a spell check in the corner but does not do it automatically. highlights yellow not red line under when typed wrong. changed settings to English US still nothing. but like said it works in this post... and where do you find Settings under Wrench menu??
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||JackyH||1/18/12 5:15 PM|
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||moldeck||1/21/12 9:31 PM|
Wrench-options- tools is where I finaly found the spell check kljko but now it is not even working in this text box either. And it is on!
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||wár17 §||1/21/12 10:16 PM|
moldeck, go here chrome://settings/languages and check "Enable Spell Checking. If you want to use the spell-checker, select the language from the list that you want to use and click Use this language for spell checking on the right.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||moldeck||1/22/12 5:44 PM|
I do not have a under the hood tab.... ??? if I copy and paste your chrome:......... it has a page error.
I click the wrench, I get Tool bar options with tabs
And a help that does not help at all. Thanks to you that are trying. Please keep up the suggestions.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||wár17 §||1/22/12 5:59 PM|
If you go to Wrench > Options (not Tools), what do you see?\\
If there is no options, then you have a corrupted download. Back up your bookmarks and Create new Chrome profile
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||moldeck||1/23/12 6:02 PM|
I can not copy and paste it, but it has the tabs listed above on the left and large box on the right with the options for that tab. How do I create a new chrome profile?
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||wár17 §||1/23/12 9:12 PM|
Link shows you how. You need to delete the user data file. It's location depends on your operating system.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||moldeck||1/24/12 8:24 PM|
Went to the link, changed the default and nothing different. Reinstalled Chrome, still not working. I am using Vista, toshiba Satelite laptop. I have installed this on several computers at work but jsut can not get this one to work with the spell checker.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||moldeck||1/24/12 8:47 PM|
Got it. Thanks War17 for your time and help. I uninstalled Google everything and re-installed it again, I think this if the 3rd time. I must have missed something in the past on the uninstalls. See no miss spells.
Thanks again for your determination. lol

|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||rjgonza||1/25/12 8:13 AM|
I have tried creating a new profile and reinstalling but everything still shows up as misspelled. Even when I turn off the check everything still has a red line under it.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||JackyH||1/26/12 6:46 PM|
Hi + rjgonza,
Can you answer the following troubleshooting steps?
1. What happens when you're in an incognito window? Ctrl+N Do you continue to have issues with spell check?
2. What are your spell check settings? Wrench Menu>Options (Preferences if you're on a Mac)>Under the Hood>Web Content>Languages and Spell Checker settings What language are you using? There is also a check box to disable the spell-check in this window
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||ruslan.says||1/28/12 6:15 PM|
I have same problem. It seems to me that Chrome spellchecker doesn't work when "textarea" was created through DOM (dynamically). For instance it works in the box I'm typoint this in. But it doesn't in other places.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||Nikos.||2/8/12 6:13 PM|
I am facing major spell check issues after Chrome 16 stable came out.
The spell check is acting really weird. it works only when it wants to work and when it does work and I do see underline words with spell ing errors the underlines are disappearing after a while most of the times.
I verify the problem with two different machines under two different user accounts. So the problem most likely a Chrome bug and not a local issue.
The problem still exist with the latest stable release of Chrome 17 released earlier today.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||wár17 §||2/8/12 6:31 PM|
Does the problem occur in Incognito mode? In Incognito mode, extensions are disable by default.
Does the problem occur if you disable all flags?
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||qBot||2/28/12 6:57 AM|
I've been experiencing severe problems with spell check for more that a month so far! Downgraded form the beta verison I've used to a normal one, but the problem is still there. I use two languages: Russian and English. Within this box im typing into, Russian does work when I select it via right clicking, but English does not! At the same time I've got a tab with gmail open where I'm writting an email: English does work there (when selected via right clicking), but the Russian does not.
I've quite fed up with swithing back and forth from one language to another, not to mantion that most of time it's not working at all.
And I even got the spell checking problem with my wife's new Asus Transformer Prime running Android 4.0.3.
Google, what's going on with your spell checking feature? :)
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||NULUSIOS||3/11/12 1:54 AM|
Same here. I have two languages installed and spelling doesn't work on either.
I select the language I want, nothing. I deselect spell-checker and re-enable it (this did the trick in some buggy Firefox versions), no go.
Happens on more than one PC's that I use.
I caaan writtte whateverr II wantt and Chrome finds it nooorrlmel.
VERY long standing bug, no real solution.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||cliveM-L||6/4/12 12:20 PM|
the spell check will tell me I'm wrong, often because I'm not writing US English but English English, but it won't offer alternatives, soon I'll go back to safari
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||angry Italian chick||9/28/12 3:22 PM|
Everything was fine with my spell check until this morning. I woke up and noticed it not working so I did some trouble-shooting (checked Crome settings, tried incognito, checked my computer for viruses and such.. and still no improvement. I am guessing the latest update to Crome is corrupt or flawed. Either way any who are having this issue need to report it to Google directly. Anyone know how to get in touch with them?
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||angry Italian chick||9/28/12 3:36 PM|
I found this number 1 (866) 553 6674. Sadly you have to repeat yourself about 50 times before the tech support guy understood what I was saying. He stated that Google Crome is indeed having server errors which is why it was working for me last night but not today. I am guessing that the past posts about this may have been having the same problems on those days.
I wanted to post the number anyway so that any in the future can go directly to the source. Also; before the guy would even admit there was a problem I had to direct him to this thread showing all the people having problems. He tried to blame my computer. After I demanded he look at this forum he put me on hold to speak to his supervisors. THAT is when he came back and admitted the problem is on their end, so PLEASE continue to post complaints in forums like these... even if your problem does not get resolved right away, it helps in the long run. It helped me not have to cuss a fool out on the phone! LOL

It didn't work even typing in this message.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||Reiver||9/29/12 4:35 AM|
Mine too had suddenly stopped working. I got it to work again by right-clicking in a text bow and in the menu clicking on Spell-checker Options then un-ticking
Ask Google for Suggestions - it's working fine now.

Under advanced settings un-tick 'Use a web service to help resolve spelling errors' and it will start to work again.
|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||zlerpster||9/29/12 10:10 AM|
My Chrome spelll chek died sometime yesturday. Perhaps it's an update issue? Some incapatability with a new patch that was sent oot? Pretending it's not an issue won't fix the problum.
And yes. All of my seettings in Languages and spelll chek are set correctly.

|Re: Chrome spell checker doesn't work||Wael Kamel||9/30/12 12:29 AM|
"Al slam-alikom" the problem maybe happens because you are using an extension like "Ginger" it is used for Grammar and Spell Checking. so this extension replace the chrome function to check the spelling errors... all you need to disable this extension or remove it from chrome and restart chrome and you find every thing back like before...

This thread was started a long time ago, so issues with spell check today are likely not relevant to what was reported back then. Therefore, I'm going to close this thread.
If your spell check is not working with the latest update to Chrome 22, we've been discussing this issue at: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/3jKiu-RiI-o/discussion. Please visit that thread for the latest information on the issue.
