Someone is sending malicious messages to my friends pretending to be me. I'm not sure how this is possible, as my password is a random string of characters encrypted on my hard drive, and I use 2-step authentication, so I am very confident that my account credentials are secure.
I was wondering if Google has any way to handle these kinds of issues (trace IP to report to ISP?). I'm not sure what to do at this point, as my account is as secure as I can make it.
Please let me know if some kind of trace can be done, or something else to increase the security of my account.

Are you meaning chat messages or email messages?

I'm talking about Google Chat. I know they use an XMPP server backend, so I'm not sure how easy it would be for Google to trace the source of the malicious messages...

It's easy to alter one's name to look like someone else, but it's much more difficult to fake someone else's email address. Get your friends to check the email address attached to these messages rather than the displayed name.
