not phrased in question form, above, but there you have-it.

basically, i installed video chat (long-time user) on my new computer. in doing so, i tested my settings and soon realized that my video wasn't showing-up (i.e., chat partners can see me, but i can't see them (or myself) within the video window). however, the green light on my laptop was on, and camera works with ichat and face-time. so, it's unique to gmail video chat.

i suspect it's something to do with the supporting components to the chat (e.g., flash? java?), but do not know the software well enough to correct the problem. i did all the software updates on my computer, etc., but nothing seems to help. any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Where are you using chat? Verify video chat settings

If using chat in Gmail, fix video chat with Video Chat Enhancement lab

My friend can't see/hear me

Was having the EXACT same problem, which happened at about the same time (five or so days ago); per this thread, I enabled Video Chat Enhancements and fixed the problem! Yay!

Wardog, What are you talking about?  There's no Options button at the bottom of the chat list.
Also there's no user interface and it doesn't show up anywhere.  I don't think it even exists!

Also, I enabled Video chat enhancements but I can't tell that it did anything.

Steve, where are you using Chat?  The Options menu may be called Settings in other chat layout. It may be by your name under the down arrow.

In Google mail in Chrome of course but it doesn't show up anywhere. I think the whole thing is nothing but a fraud.

Go to the Plugins page (type about;plugins into address bar).
Click on the Details to expand the plugins
Are both Google Talk plugins enabled?

"about;plugins" doesn't do anything in Chrome, you have to use "chrome://plugins".  There is a Google Talk Plugin Video Accelerator but only the one that I installed.

I'm having this issue using a tablet (Gingerbread)...all of the options discussed so far in these threads aren't applicable (most of the posts refer to ios, windows 7, etc.)  One doesn't have access to the labs, etc.

So, to review, I'm running Gingerbread on a 7" tablet.  The other person in the video chat can see me.  I can see myself.  But I can't see them...only a black screen.  Tablet supports both front and back cameras.  Lenovo tablet with standard browser.

Skype doesn't support this tablet, or many other android devices, or so I've heard.

Help, please.  Thanks.  ~JA

This seems like a REALLY CONVOLUTED thing that everyone suddenly has to do. Why is this happening? Does someone want everyone to stop using video chat?
I had no problem making the change for myself, but now I have to get my 75 year old mother to do so and that should be really interesting....
Seems like someone should be making a system change so no one has to do this to have the thing just keep working....
