|Google talk stand alone windows client crashing||clive4911||5/16/12 10:57 PM|
Hi KeithR, great to see that they fixed the network layer problem but now some of my contacts stand alone clients are crashing (as before they don't crash in a vpn or within the local network). Tried uninstall/reinstall but still a problem. Machines are windows xp 32 bit. Anyone else having the same problem? Or anyone know how to fix the problem?

My first thought would be conflict with other software on the system, particularly since XP had some major updates pushed in the last week and that Google talk doesn't appear to have changed. However, I have no ideas on how to improve the situation so I'll call out for help.

It would be good to know these users recently updated, like KeithR mentions. Let me know if that's the case!

Thank You KatherineG and KeithR. My apologies for the delay in getting back. I doubt it's the upgrade because it started to happen straight after the fix for the first problem.
I just had a computer to computer call from someone on windows 7. This time mine crashed last time I called him his crashed. It's usually like this..The connection is made, you can probably (you being the person whose end crashes) get a couple of words out then up comes a dialog box (see attached) The interesting thing is after the crash gtalk shows 2 instances in the system tray one dead one live.
I use Avast for a virus scanner and Comodo for a firewall and so do some of my contacts. I might try their product forums and just check to see whether anyone is having problems. I've been using them for years though so I doubt it. As mentioned before I've reinstalled the client and so have some of the others. The mere fact it works over vpn and lan makes me think it not some changes to windows... but then again I've been wrong plenty of times before.

Hi Clive, my wife and I are having the same issue - windows xp 32bit stand alone client. let me know if you discover anything. I have another post on this forum about it.

Hi Drkkgt, Well I don't think it has anything to do with the last issue as it's now crashing in the VPN and locally. KeithR might be right, might be a windows update. I'm on 64 bit xp though. The last lot of updates have been large and one the other day continually wanted to install although MS appears to have fixed that now.

I haven't run windows update on my machine (as per one of the other assistants here, he now wont troubleshoot this issue since I won't update) so it's not an update thing.
