Google Talk Mobile Web App KatherineG 4/20/12 12:41 PM
Hi there!

We are shutting down the mobile *web* app for Google Talk. For mobile users who want to continue using Google Talk, we recommend using the native Google Talk app on Android or any XMPP-compliant apps on iOS or other mobile platforms.

We are working hard on some new and exciting updates to chat in the future, so keep an eye out!

Thanks for your understanding!
Katherine

Ah! No wonder...So, what kind of "compliant apps" can I use for Google Talk for my Iphone?
Re: Google Talk Mobile Web App ajb222 4/21/12 4:37 AM
Is this why I no longer see the chat icon on my iPhone but it still appears on my desktop?

This is a disappointing development. Does " We are working hard on some new and exciting updates to chat in the future, so keep an eye out!" this mean that the mobile web app for Google Talk will soon be replaced or should I find a long term work around? If a long term work around is in order which one does Google suggest?
Re: Google Talk Mobile Web App Tnstoo 4/23/12 3:31 PM
Exactly!! Why would they just "shut" it down...rather than keeping it working until they came up with 'something else'.  Don't they realize how this effects so many people.

HELP!
There is no "native Google Talk app" on my Galaxy.
What are you referring to?
Thanks
Andy

Is this the one for the galaxy s II skyrocket cell phone?
Re: Google Talk Mobile Web App KeithR 5/20/12 7:38 PM
Andy, there should already be a Google Talk app on any Android phone.  Which carrier did you get it from?  You might have to go to the Android App Store and download it.  I would expect it to be free.

Katherine,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S1 and I am not sure of the native Google Talk app to which you are referring.  In any event, I'm glad that I can still chat on the desktop as I am not into the hangout scene.

I hope that the "new and exciting updates to chat in the future" will include a integration of the mobile Messenger with the G+ desktop chat.  They have yet to function together as they should.  I want to be able to begin a conversation on a mobile (if I'm out or whatever the case) and continue the conversation on the desktop if I so chose.  As it is now, I can't tell who is online on the mobile Messenger like I can with the desktop version.

Thanks,

David

That's really sad as this was the only chat client I could still use at work after all google talk functionality was blocked at our corporate network! >:(

Don't you think it would be a good idea to make it so a message indicating that Google Talk for web is no longer available comes up when you try to access the web app? It would save people a lot of time and frustration. I spent a long time trying to figure out why the app wasn't working until a web search finally turned up this forum post.

Ideally there should be one app for hangout messenger and Gtalk put together. This will reduce the app size and also notifications can be converged to one app. The option to go video or not should be enabled once chat/hangout is activated. This is for privacy reasons and on air hangouts from mobile will be a great boon for live reporting of emergencies and help.

Re: Google Talk Mobile Web App KeithR 6/18/12 5:33 PM
@Bindo_GTK,
Hangout is totally different to Gtalk as a hangout is multi-party whereas Gtalk is a more intimate connection.  Combining all the functions would actually make the app much bigger.  It would also be hard to control the privacy in a one-to-one connection.
Re: Google Talk Mobile Web App Bindo_GTK 6/18/12 5:47 PM
I don't think so. I'm using hangout for my personnel contacts and even helps me in pooling more than one family member into it. While I can't do it in Gtalk. Gtalk is now being used more as texting tool than the functions it has. When the Web app is closed then on Android phones it will be mere texting tool all the more.
Many on Android is not using the messaging tool available in G+ for want of awareness and less ease of usage.

Or look on Google play (app store) it will be on there under "apps".

Hi - could anyone suggest which XMPP compliant apps on iOS support Google Talk for a business domain? Many of them don't appear to work without an @gmail.com login.

Cheers

Andy

I'm not sure but look this over:
Talkatone for Android and iDevices--Unlimited FREE calls, texts and picture sharing to GTalk friends, or any phone number in US/Canada:
Re: Google Talk Mobile Web App herbert21 7/6/12 3:36 AM
Thanks Craig. That one definitely requires @gmail.com addresses unfortunately.

Looks like we'll have to wait for Google to bring out the new unified messaging apps:

Cheers

Andy
