I have a Samsung RF4289HARS refrigerator. The Google calendar app on it has been working perfectly since I purchased the refrigerator August 2012. However, with the latest changes
in Google Calendar API, I can no longer sign in to my calendar. I receive a message stating " Please check your email in Google Calendar website". I can sign in fine on my home PC and have no problem seeing the calendar on my phone. Perhaps this is a Samsung issue, but I thought I would try here first. Has anyone else experienced this problem and what was the solution?
Sounds like your fridge needs a software update to use the new API version.
I have the same fridge and in the last few days have had the same problem. I have tried creating a new Google account and no luck even with a completely clean calendar. It signs in, but when the data is being parsed, it fails and gives the message you quoted about the Google website. I tested purposefully giving it the wrong password and it fails to even log in. I can see the app log in, but fails when data begins to populate. Anyone know how to get Google and Samsung talking to fix this? Thanks, Rob
I have the 28 CF 4-DR W/LCD APPS MODEL: RF28HMELBS the first frig they delivered the calendar work fine but the delivery people damaged it so they delivered another one and now I get the error "Please check your email in Google Calendar website" I just got the frig yesterday and I remember the first frig it did a firmware update when I first powered it on. This one with error didn't do a firmware and it's on 1.145. I have a ticket out to Samsung.
Having the same problem - and Samsung support only advised to restart the refrigerator and check timezone - neither resolved the issue. Very anxious to get this fixed as this is how my young daughter knows her daily schedule.
Yep, same here. They told me to restart and then unplug. The restart and the AC reconnect still leaves user data in the fridge. If it isn't an API issue that has changed on Googles backend Service end. then maybe some corrupt data is in the calendar cache and is not allowing it to download correctly any longer. The app still signs into the calendar as it successfully goes past the login and starts to paint the grid before it beeps and errors out to the "Check Google Website" message. There's no info on how to erase all user data and return the panel to factory defaults. Any idea out there on how to do that? As I said the reset just reboots, but doesn't flash it back to the way it came from the factory. Thoughts? Thanks, -Rob

I had a long chat with Nadal B at Samsung and went through the typical steps just so that I could say I checked everything they asked me to. At one point I wrote that it is a bigger problem, more owners are reporting the same issues, and surely this should be elevated to the next level. So while I wait for this to be resolved, I am also waiting for a software update to be available for Sync2, as I use Outlook as my main calendar on my home pc and Sync it to my Google Calendar which of course then gets shared so that everyone in my busy family has easy access to what we are all doing. It doesn't seem as though the Google calendar people gave much though to the impact their changes would make to their customers.
I have the Samsung fridge RF28HMELBSR with the same issue. I contacted Samsung twice with no help. The end result is an email stating to contact google calendar. It would appear this is some sort of firmware issue they dont want to address.
Its a custom OS and custom apps yet they just try to pass the buck to google.

Has anyone been able to get the right person at Samsung to resolve this problem? It's clear to me that Google changed their API and the proprietary Samsung Google calendar is no longer able to authenticate to get the calendar data. Some developer over at Samsung needs to fix this on their end.
Same issue here, its clearly an API change issue. I was always concerned that the app said "Beta" especially after a full year passed with no updates (we've had the fridge for over 2 years now) but assumed that as long as it worked it was not a big deal. We too rely on the calendar function (I just cannot imagine that we'll have to "tape" a legacy paper calendar to the front of the fridge - yikes).
1) a fix from Samsung or

C'mon Samsung, puts some love into this product.
ON 11/11 I got the new frig went it booted up it did a firmware upgrade and calendar work fine. That same night I discovered the delivery guys didn't put back the top plastic cover on right and drilled a new hole. I complain to Best Buy and they shipped out a new frig on 11/17. When it booted up it didn't do any firmware update it's at beta 1.145 and the calendar doesn't work.
Could it be I was lucky with the first frig it did an update and now with the replacement it's not?

I spoke to a Product Specialist this morning at Samsung who said that they were now aware and are planning a software update for all affected models. She said no estimated date was in the internal tech note, but said I could call back with my ticket number and ask about status update. I am glad other people are having the same problem. I have the Samsung RF4289HARS and love. Had it for about 2 years. However, I don' t think there has been 1 software update since I had it. People asked about new apps but they are same as when I got it. I hope they address this issue.
Good to hear I am not the only one having this problem for the last few days. I will now put in a ticket with Samsung and hopefully there will be more pressure on them to get the firmware upgrade soon!
My tablet in my fridge became unresponsive on touch screen bout a month ago. 1st tablet Samsung sent wouldn't power on , second tablet samsiung sent would not connect to WiFi and now I finally get one that works and the calander app does not work. Come on Samsung, update this please
I am having this same issue for the past 5-6 days or so and have went round for round fighting with Samsung. I have been transferred to every department and country of Samsung Tech Support. To no avail... I am told I will be having a call back. Oh, and I am also told that they don't support apps on the product and that would be something I have to bring up with the app manufacture. It's not Google! I've fought with their Tech Tier Supervisor level and told them that the API was updated and that they need to allow a Play Store or some sort of App Store update into this software. I asked to speak to a Samsung product developer for the software, I am going to try and access the code myself with my laptop hooked up to the service port. Apparently, it's on the back of the screen. Everyone please keep us all updated on your progress...

I think this is a wider problem than just your fridges (I hadn't seen on of those with a Google Calendar app (now glad that I didn't <g>.)). See my copied post from another forum below talking about Google Calendar syncing ("something" changed with Google Calendar relatively recently IMHO).

Entering events on the phone do NOT get to Google Calendar (therefore not back to Outlook either). This happens with both the Google calendar app on the phone as well as A+ Calendar app on the phone.
The common point here seems to be the Google Calendar itself. Seems like Google changed something to mess up the calendar apps on Android phones (hopefully, NOT deliberately <g>).
The sync (from phone to Google Calendar to Outlook and vice versa has been working well for 6 months plus now (until about 10 to 14 days ago or so)

As announced since July, an old version of the calendar API has been shut down. (version 3 has been announced then, and version 1 has now been deactivated)

But it's up to the device manufacturers to push those updates out to your devices. Google can't and wouldn't push firmware updates to other companies devices.

I have to disagree "somewhat".
Google calendar app on my Android phone won't sync to Google Calendar on the web and those are both Google products. This has been working for at least 6 months now between my Android phone and Google Calendar itself. My sync from Google Calendar to Outlook (using gSyncit) continues to work.

My version of the stock Android calendar apps does so, too.
Can you confirm that you're using the most up to date version of the calendar app? (that's the one with the whole new look, no month view, cute little drawings for month headers and lots of other stuff that people complained about)

Yes, I was using the new "skinned" app from Google. I think it was
V5.something. It had the little red "+" sign for new events etc. The
Google calendar app is uninstalled currently on the phone. Part of my
testing was using the A+ Calendar app instead of the Google version.

That might be the key. Depending on how it got onto your phone (read: how your phone manufacturer integrated it into the phone firmware) removing the Google calendar app sometimes removes the Google calendar synching service, too. Try reinstalling it, even if you'Re not using the app itself as a frontend. YOu might need other parts that are installed along with it.

Hi Anthony, I too am receiving this message. I just purchased my refrigerator yesterday. I also am unable to get any of the phone features to work. I have a Note 4.
To dogpile on, our RF4289HARS is also experiencing the issue. Samnsung online support was relatively useless. Hopefully this will be resolved soon as it was a great feature when it worked.
So what's the next step, since this seems to be a manufacturers shortfall? Should we expect that Samsung will correct it or its this a consumers affairs issue?
I don't own one of these fridges but it sounds like they need a firmware update based on Google changes to the calendar interface.
Apparently gmail upgraded their security which does not allow third party vendors to access the calender without approval. I went thru the steps to authorize it but no luck. Samsung needs to update the"beta" calender ASAP one of the ionly apps I use on my frig

From what I understand Google discontinued this calander and another when they released new calandr. Basically we are fuct. We now have a pointless icon on our fridge and this app was main reason I bought fridge so wife and I could view each other's calanders at supper table. It's on Samsung to update the software to current calander. I have had 3 scheduled appts for a Samsung adbanced product specialist to call me which none have called .

I bought the fridge so my wife could keep up with my calendar. I hope this gets fixed soon. That is a lot of wasted money if no one can use this anymore. I get the same above quoted message.

I had Geek Squad come out and they called Samsung and they said the same thing. Google discontinue the calendar.
I hope you didn't have to pay them for answers like that. Google did NOT discontinue the calendar service, they updated it. (Version 1 to Version 3) But Samsung needs to update their software in return.
You're correct. I didn't pay I just got the Samsung 3 weeks ago and it's the 2nd refrigerator. When did google change it? The first refrigerator the calendar worked and it did a firmware update when it first booted up.
The change was announced in Google's developer blog in June or July. Along with a detailed guide on what changes you have to make to your software. That was when version 3 went live, but version 1 was still working in parallel so software vendors accessing Google calendar had enough time to roll out updates to their stuff.

As per the google website Google suspended V1 of their calendar on November 17th, 2014. I suspect the BETA Calendar software on the Samsung works correctly with V1 but doesn't with V3 (current version). I do not know where the majority of responsibility lies, but I do know it has to involve both companies as Google will have to address older apps not being able to sync with the newer version but Samsung has to also push Google to figure out how to be able to push any new calendar software to the fridge. So it is a two-fold problem - Google has to provide the necessary software upgrade; Samsung has to get it pushed out to the fridge owners to download and update on calendar app.
Long story short - I believe we are screwed :(. Fingers pointed at each other...
Samsung stated that they willl have it updated in 60 days from the day it went out.. which was Nov 17th . I was told this from several different people at Samsung. My response was " come on you can come out w a new phone every month but screw updating the tablet as fridges are not as disposable as phones" let's hope they get it back,besides the weather the calander is only thing I use on there.

60 days from when it came out? That would have been in 2011.
Even 60 days after the end of v1 has been announced would have been in september or so. October at latest. And it was also July when even an exact migration guide on how to migrate your software from v1 to v2 has been published. Sorry Samsung, but that's plain lame.

Anyone updates from Samsung on when this defect will be resolved? For an internet connected appliance that costs more than any other working appliance in my house, I would expect this to work as advertised.

Same problem here...I understand that Samsung probably did not tell a ton of these models, but for those of us who have them, we paid extra $$ to have a smart fridge and now one of the 5 things it could do doesn't work. Samsung really needs to do something about this. I too will be a "squeaky wheel"

I check this thread regularly to see if anything new develops. Of course numerous owners have contacted Samsung to no avail. I haven't called Samsung again (I dont have time to go through their steps again) but I can say I am getting more annoyed by the blank Google calendar display. Come on with the fix already.
I just chatted with Samsung Support. Same thing. Wait for Google update and then Samsung can address issue. I requested a response from Samsung saying they are working on issue. I expect this will not be fixed.

For what it's worth, here's the latest nonsense answer from tech support, received this morning by email. At this point, I think people are right by saying it's just going to stay broken. Very disappointing -- we got suckered into buying an unsupported white elephant. Lesson learned I guess.

It seems Samsung is unaware of this. I can't believe a company like Samsung with innovative products can't provide an update to our refrigerators based on this information.
It seems Samsung is unaware of this. I can't believe a company like Samsung with innovative products can't provide an update to our refrigerators based on this information.
So, here's my question...does this reach the level of a class action? It seems that most of us spent the extra money for a "smart" fridge, only for it to quit performing as advertised within a short time. Or, not at all for some that are recent purchasers.

I have been wondering about the same thing Trey. I would support the person that takes it on! So depressing seeing the blank calendar on my refrigerator but I just can't remove it from my display, in hopes for a software update. I don't want to it when it happens.

Talked to Samsung Via twitter. they say they are working on it.... As far as a class action, that's probably a loser. There probably are not that many of these fridges out there, and damages per customer are relatively low (maybe 100-200 bucks). Assume there are 5k of these fridges around, that's only a 500k lawsuit, which generally isnt worth an attorney's time to fool with a class action. For now, I will take it at their word they are working on it.

What is that fridge running to begin with? (I've never seen one of those) if it is an Android device, could it access the Play store and run the original android calendar app? Is there anything that fridge could do better than a regular fridge with an Android Tablet velcroed to the fridge door?

I registered my machine from day one, after was delivered and installed, but no positive result - still calendar app doesn't work, and I have to see white page every day after day. My too, as many people from this forum, had conversation with Samsung customer service, but with no avail. Can anyone tell me if the other apps on the refrigerator such as the phone sync work? I have the Note 4 that I upgraded to prior to purchasing the refrigerator and it is not compatible at all with the frig.

Hey all, finally found others with the same issue. We have the RSG309AARS and like many others, Google calendar was one of the main reasons we bought the fridge. What a great feature when it worked; right in front of us as we ate on the breakfast bar.
Anyway, I've called several times and get the same answer as you all.

Well, the Google App for the calendar is up to date and works fine with with the new API.
So it's safe to assume that it is not the Google calendar app that is running on your Samsung fridge. If it is not a Samsung App either, you should try to track down the manufacturer of the Google calendar app for samsung fridges.
This really sucks! Working fine for since I bought the fridge 2-3 years ago until November. This whole time (even before the fridge was manufactured) Google has had this deprecation planned: http://googleappsdeveloper.blogspot.com/2011/11/introducing-next-version-of-google.html WTH!!! There has not been an update to my fridge since 2012, not good! I was able to get around it for the time being by writing a small python script (running on a raspberry pi) to translate the Google API V3 format into v2 format and make changes to my routers firewall policies to have the app request it from my script.
All works well enough for now until the authentication api is deprecated in 2 months.
I requested the source code for the refrigerator which I received, but it contains 0 app code.
That is awesome! Would you mind sharing your python script (and how you set up your firewall)? I'll admit, I'm a Perl guy, but if I need to, I'm sure I can figure out a how to maintain/update a Python script.

Well, I just found Net::Google::Calendar on CPAN, so me thinks I'll be looking into a similar workaround in the near future. I haven't dug deep enough yet to see which api version it is at, but at least I've got a place to start.

Has anyone been having connectivity problems? We have had the RF4289HARS for two years and connected just fine now it will not connect to any access point in the house. Suggestions?
We just got ours November 2014 the RF28HMELBSR/AA and calendar work for a week on one refrig and the replacement never work.

Yes we have tried reboot -reset moving the routers closer and having an open access point only for the fridge. We just had screen replaced so I have opened a new ticket through Lowes extended warranty. Just thought it was worth asking if anyone might have had this problem. Thanks!

I have a Samsung RSG309AARS. I am having the same problem. Samsung is pointing finger at Google. When I called Google, they have no idea about a Samsung Google Calendar app. In fact when I asked the Samsung rep to call Google, she came back with and no response from Google herself. It is unfair to give us a run around.
In my opinion Samsung sold these $2000+ fridge to all of us. They should have the courtesy to take this problem and work with Google to get it fixed. After all Samsung advertised this product to us showing Google Calendar. Now when things are not working, they don't want to take any responsibility.
Going to try your workaround. Couple quick questions: 1) What IP goes in your python script, the IP of the device running the python or the fridge? 2) Which IPs go where in the iptables NAT statements? Is the first the fridge and the second the python host? I see you matched Google subnets with the destinations at the end, so is this supposed to redirect requests from your fridge to the python host or is it supposed to redirect replies from Google toward the python host and not the fridge?

192.168.1.113 is my fridge, 192.168.1.114 is my raspberry pi running the python script. It redirects requests from the refrigerator to the python host. The python script then makes a v3 request to Google gets a response and reformats it to a v2 response and sends it back to the fridge.

natejgreene, yes. I think I have your python script running, I see the date/time and Server Starts and the IP with port 80. I don't think I applied the iptables correctly, so I'll mess with that and let you know if I get it to work. This is clearly a Google API v2 versus v3 issue and therefore a Samsung/whoever created their app issue. I can see in the request they are using the v2 authentication which was removed in Nov 2014.
I have same issue and message. It seems the updated software is the problem. The floor model, without the updated software, works perfect! Samsung states "its a google problem" and there is no way to delete updated software. Also cant sync my TV.
They haven't gotten back to me. I think nobody has the answer yet, except I wouldn't update the software, if everything was working fine in the first place.

Screw Samsung and all there appliances. My stove had the glass blow out 20 ft away from it on preheat first time used, they brought new stove and that started on fire cuz of a bad wire too close to hot surface. microwave is loud as he'll. Samsung don't give a shit

I bet there are a couple of things going on here. The OP as well as my self have the RF4289HARS. This fridge is for sure an API version issue as I wrote an app to convert the requests to google to the older version of the API and it works fine. Also there has not been an update to the RF4289HARS since 2012.
UPDATE: I received a call from Samsung today for the ticket I opened on Feb 17th. This is what I understood.
The Google Calendar app on the fridge is developed by Google. These apps contact a server (platform) that was changed by Google but the app was not changed to contact that upgraded server. Unlike the Android/Iphone apps, the refrigerators contact a different platform(server). Samsung's operation manager has now escalated the process to get it resolved. Both Samsung's and Google's engineers are working to get it resolved within a month. Make sure to keep the software update on, in your fridge.
Wow I'm so glad to see a discussion about this. I've also been annoyed about this for the past three months but just made the assumption that support was dead and the calendar would no longer be available. Surprised to see that it is actually a Google-developed app. Hopefully it will actually get updated. Thanks to everyone here for keeping this issue alive and updated!

Also no update for RSG309AARS. It looks like the 2014 models got the update but the 2011-2012 models did not... which is exactly what I was afraid of.
Assuming we are starting to get updates from Samsung...if you get an update for your fridge and Google Calendar starts working again, PLEASE post your model number so that others know WHICH fridges should now have an available update! There are multiple models from Samsung with the built in tablets, so just saying "it works now" doesn't help much.

Correct. There are two distinct versions of Samsung's LCD-enabled refrigerators. One version came out in 2011 available as a 4-door or a side-by-side configuration. The second model came out in late 2014. From everything I have seen, these may as well be from two completely separate companies. There is absolutely nothing that connects the 2011 models from the 2014 models. The 2011 models do not have any connectivity with the Samsung Smart Home app suite and have been completely neglected from Samsung for at least the past two years. Anyone discussing a firmware update is referring the much newer and completely different 2014 models.

The C Man, thanks! But this is definitely an API version issue. Please see my other posts. I have a work around that is working for me until they deprecate the older authentication mechanisms in April.
Just an unrelated sidenote, but if I ever mention the idea of buying a smart fridge, remind me that I probably should better get a cheap Android tablet and a few stripes of velcro.

I totally agree! I purchased a "Smart" Fridge from Samsung RF4289HARS and I am in the same boat! This just sucks... I am surprised there are not any news articles out there in the Tech journals about this as a warning about "smart" appliances...

I have also been emailing reporters/reviewers of out Samsung Refrigerator models to let them know that the units they touted as smart fridges are being neglected when it comes to keeping them "smart". Reviewed.com a division of USA today posted a great review here. I emailed them explaining our calendar support dilemma. Here was his response:

UPDATE: During the first week of March a rep from Samsung mentioned that Google is probably doing a phased roll out of the fix by geographical area.
If that is the case, I would assume that, someone who has an RSG309AARS in California or somewhere in West Coast should have a working Google Calendar.
I am in the North East Mid-Atlantic area and the calendar is still not working in my RSG309AARS.
Those who have their fridge with their calendar working could you please respond which geographical area you are in. I don't know how they define the geographical area, but my instinct is, North East and California must be in different geographical area.

If that is true that is good news for RF4289 as well since they were released in the same year :) I live in MN with no update yet. I question the need for a geographical or phased rollout because they cant make this any worse, but it is second hand information through Samsung so who knows what is going on or if they are trying to buy more time.
Sorry but I call BS as I still doubt that this is a Google provided app. I don't think Google would be surprised that one of their apps stopped working around 14 months after they announced the change that broke the app. Espescially with the Android calendar app NOT having that problem.

RF4289 in North Texas - No update yet. Still no calendar access.
RF4289HARS/XAA in Birmingham Alabama. No software update and I just verified the Calendar app still won't connect. Software v2.650. Also, I am using Google's "App Passwords". They work with everything else except this device.

The app folks who designed it are long gone. I will post the names later so we can track the software design guys down.
Google does not own the app nor did they design it. Think of it as a free app that no one owns.
Yet somehow Samsung sold it with that feature. The legal jargon says they Google are not the owners of this app so they dont have to fix it.
Somehow we need to find a software code geek that could write a firmware patch to make this app work.
I belive the app may have a security issue that make allow someone access to your wifi network through the original firmware version.
What I think needs to happen is we need to figure away to go back to the older version and block the app from installing the update.

That's the best answer so far as finding out that this is a 3rd party app at least should stop the fingerpointing between Google and Samsung. Have you tried to contact the developers?

I contacted Samsung and the answer was in resume "get lost" they do not support updates and will not do nothing to fix it. So next time don't buy Samsung since after 1 year the software will not work since they attribute the responsability to the developers. i'm having the same issue with my tv that will have you tube obsoleted .

At this point, Samsung should release the source code for the fridge. I can find an Android developer to fix this in an afternoon.
I do have the "source code" if you want to call it that. It is basically just the linux install with no apps on it. I requested it a few months ago and since its GPL they had to release it. I do agree it would be nice to have all of it...
I did a GPL request as well. I also have the service manual so I have instructions on how to manually install a new firmware to the refrigerator via an SD card. So hypothetically if someone managed to create a custom firmware, it would be possible to install it. Of course, that would not be possible without the complete source code...
@Alexandre Tanin: Yes, that boils down to "get lost" and should definitly give you an impression on their after sales service. But if @Key Benefits above is correct, that Samsung is at least right here, the app is indeed not a Samsung App. And not a Google App either.
Then Samsung should issue a software update that replaces the app. I really don't care who made the app. The fact of the matter is, it's on Samsung's fridge, and was preinstalled on that fridge and was sold as a benefit of owning that fridge. It breaking down, whether by Samsung's fault or Googles, and Samsung's refusal to fix it, amounts to product abandonment.
This is total garbage! There have been NO Updates since April 2012, and that is nearly THREE YEARS! As a consumer this is NOT acceptable. You don't get people to buy a product, and then cease support. You need to fix it or complaints will be filed to the Federal Trade Commission for fraud
I just filed a complaint with the Executive Complaint Division of Samsung. They stated my fridge is no longer in warranty. I snapped back and said that I purchased this fridge in October 2011, and the last update was April 6, 2012. So WHAT was there excuse for not sending updates while it was IN warranty? Like Jonthan Harrop said, "amounts to product abandonment". There are laws to protect consumers. File your complaint with Samsung, and then file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). They cannot just decide to not support something this expensive!
Yes, they can. We need cooler heads here, folks. It's a terrific inconvenience and we all feel betrayed, but the core functionality of the fridge has not been affected. I'm as ticked off as everyone else, but hyperbolic threats of lawsuits and FTC complaints aren't going to help. The fridge keeps things cold. The freezer still freezes. If they get enough bad publicity, that might convince them it's worth their time. What has to happen is a threat to their bottom line, and that can only happen for future purchases.

the refrigerator still cools and freezer still freezes. However, I spent
extra money on this fridge because it is different with the features. I
feel Samsung is very good at changes things that have been the same for
years. But now, the most useful part of the unique features of this
fridge does not work. I did rely on the Calendar App when it was
working, updating my Google Calendar so it shows up on the Fridge as a
reminder.

This is only the first app to go down... AP news, pandora and twitter are all API based. If any of those companies change their APIs the apps will break. These are features of an fridge and they are a selling point for marketing etc. If they are broken the fridge is broken since it does not do what it is supposed to do. Yes the screen still works and it controls the fridge, but that is not why I bought this model. As far as the warranty argument.... These refrigerators (the 2011 model) are still being sold, which means they are all within their manufacturer's warranty so that comment was not valid. If Samsung is going to put these features in appliances they need to support them until at least the average life span of the appliance (not 3years) or put how long there will be support for in writing. They are really dropping the ball here. There is a goal of Samsung to have all appliances connected.. the IoT (Internet of Things) they were touting at CES If this is the best they are going to do they will FAIL. No way I am buying anymore connected appliances if they do not fix this.
I bought my refrigerator no more than six months ago. I am still under warranty. Does that change anything for me? Should I pursue anything against Samsung if that is their only argument for this?

working as advertised. And that must kinda suck for you...you probably only got 1-2 months of calendar access, right? We bought ours in 2013 (iirc), so I'm out of the 1
year warranty. If you're able to get somewhere with this, and get
everyone updated, you'd probably be a hero on this group! :-)

tried going with the python script posted earlier, but unfortunately
I'm not an iptables expert, so didn't have much luck getting that set up
properly. Also, it looks like the python script runs as a webserver to
respond to the fridge's requests, and since I already run my own
webserver on my home server, I wouldn't have been able to easily run

I went to this address on my laptop connected to my wifi network and typed in the code. A screen on my computer came up asking if my Samsung can have permission to my Google calendar. I checked yes and it worked! Just have to figure out why the times are all one hour ahead on fridge. I think it's a software glitch. At least it works though. Been following this forum for months. Thank you to all who got the ball rolling. My kids can now check calendar on fridge again.

Woohoo! Although, this is too rich. After the posts yesterday of yet another "30 day" wait, I sent an email to Samsung's Executive Customer Service asking for some clarification - are we SOL, or will there actually be an update coming. Then posts this evening of a pending update.

I would just like to send a huge THANK YOU to everyone here who pressured Samsung, pursued executive-level inquiries, etc, because it seemed pretty obvious to me that no one at Samsung was ever going to spend two minutes of their time on this until the actual consumers got involved. I see no option for dst on fridge. It's not off on fridge time, it's that every event on calander is 1 hour off.
UPDATE: I called Samsung again on March 27 because they asked me to call in a month from my original reporting of the issue and if it still didn't work for me. On March 30, my RSG309AARS showed me the software update and the calendar is working. Now it does not show a Beta versiom which is good. Thanks to everyone else in this group for their persistence.

I'm the originator of this thread and have to comment. I have been reading every post since my post back in November. I am thrilled so many people have had responses from Samsung. I have not been so fortunate. For the record, I have the RF4289HARS model, running 2.65 version of software, purchased in August 2012. I have reset my refrigerator and attempted signing into my calendar at least 3 times tonight in the hopes I too would see an update to no avail. I am not giving up hope.
You are right Mike!! Based on my call to Samsung, they told ALL of the other callers what they thought they wanted to hear just to get the off the phone. Samsung has NO INTENTION of sending updates. I even had the agent tell me that they would send a tech to manually update the software. I knew THAT was a bald-faced LIE!! They told me nothing but lies! Like Mike said, we bought this fridge for ALL Of the features!!! I was told my unit was no longer under warranty, but it WAS under warranty when they STOPPED sending updates in April 2012!~~ I hate liars!!
Update successful here in Central Arkansas but I also have the 1 hour off issue. Google and Samsung are much too smart for these rookie programming issues. I'm embarrassed for them.

Soooo close! My fridge received the update (SW version 2.690 as of March 31, 2015). My Google calendar loads -- EXCEPT nothing displays for January through April, but does display May and at least through Sept (it's very slow to load). RF4289HARS in Virgina.

After reading the Korea Tech post about the 4-1-15 update , I tested my fridge today
I rebooted the fridge then went to login
Before most of us were getting a a type of message that said" the user name or password in not correct try again"
That suggested to me that the server could not validate the user from the remote host server, since my user and password was correct.
Today , I get a new message that says "cannot connect to server" try again later .
Wonder what others are getting?????
I think we should wait till they release this on 4/1/15

I agree that threats and winning to Samsung only adds to less cooperation with their tech department .
This is a third party compatibility APP issue with Google , not a Google APP. The APP works with Google but is not a Google App
API codes are the problem as well as a host server issue
The guys who built this APP have moved on from 1991 when this was 1st released

Hello! :) I have read this forum for info ,but haven't commented until now. :) I received the update this morning. I am located in the northeast US. I went from version 2.650 to updated version 2.690. My fridge is model RF4289HARS/XAA. After the update you are prompted to go to a Google site to authorize access and put in a code. I believe that was the problem all along, the need for everyone to allow Google access to their calendar with the new version. I'm no tech genius, so that's just a guess. lol ;D I also noticed the need to tap on the arrow several times to access other months, but was able to see April. After several attempts. Maybe adjusting the touch screen, may help? Hope his helps. :) Have a good day! :)
Duh? Hope "this" helps. lol :) Also, be sure to go to Samsung's site and register your fridge. Entering your serial # and place of purchase...etc. I think that helps too. I couldn't disagree more with Ken's assertions that proactively pushing Samsung to get this fixed somehow made things worse. This is not the Galaxy S5. It's a 4-year-old refrigerator that very few people bought, never received any major firmware updates, was virtually nonexistent in media coverage, and was never ever discussed again by Samsung despite "smart appliances" being one of their most pushed initiatives for years. Had the consumers not spoken up -- and yes, up to the executive levels with reasonable threats -- there is zero, zero, chance that Samsung would have done anything about this. So, again, thanks to everyone here!

Have not seen an update and dont know how to force a update check. Did disable wifi and then re-enable, but no change.

There is a way to force an update using the SD card slot. However, that would require having the actual firmware file. Samsung has never posted refrigerator firmwares for download like they do with phones, tablets, and TVs. You could always try reaching out to customer support to get the firmware, but based on our prior experiences it's very obvious that they probably wouldn't be very helpful..
Mine's working now. Checked for updates and found one waiting. Fixed it

I have checked the information in our database and we do not have information on updates for your refrigerator. It will not be available on the fridge until the upgrades are complete. Once the update is available it will be directly available on your refrigerator.

So I did the update but the google calender does not load correct. I cannot see this month( April) or next month(May). In March 30th when I did the update I was able to see May. Anyone else having this issue with the update?

I still don't have the update either. :( I'm in Virginia. I haven't brought myself to contact customer service and get another run around. I have tried a variety of network settings and reboots thinking that may be the issue but I haven't had any success. I have a RF4289HARS.
Me either - also in Virginia with a RF4289HARS. I did send them a support asking what the current firmware version is and they have avoided that answer twice. I'm running 1.55 and was hoping that they would provide confirmation of either an update that I have not yet gotten, or that is the latest version.

work for some but not others? I too could see May when I did the update
and shortly thereafter (I think it was on April 1) I could no longer
view May. I fear once we get to May 1 this could be a rolling issue
where we then lose June and can only view from July on. Any thoughts on

Updated today and signed in to the calendar with no issues. However, my event times within the calendar are all one hour ahead. Looked at my calendar online (PC, phone, tablet) and the times are correct...only on the refrigerator app are they off by one hour. Weird...

Just confirming with you that even the older version 1.5 firmware is not working. Many of us with ver 2.5 reported this problem AFTER upgrading . Interesting why your fridge did not auto upgrade to the current version ?

Today I noticed that my Gmail is showing my mail time stamps running one hour behind. My PC clock time is set to the right time.
Jim, I am in Maryland and no update yet. Read a post from Tech support that updates were tied to geo regions. Maybe we are in the later regions . Makes sence as like all new firmware updates can have early bugs that need fixing.

Where did u get your update from for Google calendar
I have the Samsung RF4289HARS/XAA and received the update a couple weeks ago in Washington. All the times are one hour ahead, which isn't accounting for Day light savings. The other issue I see is that the calendar loses it's data every couple days and doesn't automatically retrieve the calendar data from Google You have to manually click to the Calendar App and have it sync every couple days.

Does anyone know what forces and update check with Samsung? I have unplugged and plugged the fridge, pushed the reset button, etc. But have no idea when the system is programmed to check for updates or how one can be forced without a card. I've also disconnected and reconnected the wireless, but since you don't get feedback that a check has been performed, I can't help but wonder if it truly is checking. That was a totally useless endeavor. Now I can log into my own account on a samsung page, but for what? My fridge was registered in 2011. I noticed a video on YouTube entitled, "How to do a Software Update Samsung RF4289HARS 4-Door and 8" LCD Display with Apps" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCMKSYpho6U. I have emailed the creator, but no response yet. One thing I did notice was the part of the video (attached here) that shows HIS current SW version -- it says RF4289HARS/XAA with a current SW version of 2.650. The clip also shows the new SW version being updated from the notification to 2.690. My RF4289HARS/XAA fridge has the last update being Fri Apr 6, 2012 to version 2.550. I have called Samsung twice again and asked specifically about this (with the details) and was given a blanket response of "software updates are done in batches and your will be done when the process gets around to you". When I asked what "batches" referred to (i.e. serial number, geography, registration order, moon phase), they then said that his department had no details beyond "batched" and that this is the way all Samsung software updates happen. Then I asked if he knew of an update to my model or if he was just speaking about the process in general. To this he replied, "Support doesn't have that kind of version information unless the process is manual and posted publicly on the web. If it is an automated process, a different product support department handles matters like that." I asked him to escalate my request for more information about version and expected update window. He took my specifics AGAIN, and said he would forward it on to the "appropriate department". Frustrating! -Rob

And now that many of us have one, our software issues not being addressed and we have no avenue to use our investment. Again enclosed is our exchange, but sadly we owners have been without featured app functionality since November 2014 with no end in sight. Well, its now mid May 2015 and wondered if you ever had your team do a follow-up piece on the pitfalls of Smart Appliances (or at least ones from Samsung). There are rumors that there is an update out there for Samsung, but Samsung support says they nothing about it. Ever had a dream about a very attractive stainless-steel framed LCD screen that greeted you every day as you reach for your orange juice -- but its turns out to be useless and a constant daily reminder (of course now without Google scheduled reminders as originally promised) of a bad investment that can't be used?

Today is May 27 2015 and I still have not received any update in Syracuse, NY. I am so frustrated with not having a calendar for almost 23 years.....The last update was 2012.....is there a way to FORCE the refrigerator to look for an update. It sounds from this board that there's an update out there fixing this. Why can't I 'search for it in some way. I just got done 'chatting' with Samsung AGAIN about this...and they take no responsibility. I did say to them that I believed that if they pushed through a fix for this problem that they'd have much happier customers. All they said was that a fix is in the making by google.
Seems like East Cost is not getting an update yet... I`m also in NY (Long Island) and no update yet. Calendar still doesnt work. It does seem a little crazy that they are not putting more priority on this, since a fridge is not an easy replacement....
Ii just got done chatting with Samsung again....and said that according to my serial number, it is a 'more recent' refrigerator and 4289HARS and "the release for that refrigerator has not been released from google yet". Then I fought with this guy.....and said - it's a 'software' release, not a hardware release. Google DID release a fix and people ARE getting it through Samsung. All I'm asking is if you can push it through to my refrigerator......and we went around in circles. There is no logic to this. When phones or computers get updated, it happens quickly 'all over' - maybe within a couple of days.....what' is it that I'm missing in this situation? This is SOFTWARE for an app. If it's been release from Google - why aren't we all getting them.....unless google is releasing the fix according to manufacture date.....Anyone shed any light on this??
Don't be fooled. If that calendar stuff is part of the calendar firmware for that Samsung device, it's Samsung that releases updates for Samsung devices.
I think people here confirmed that the fridge-provided calendar it's not a Google owned app from Google app store.
The reason for this update (still waiting), is Google has updated its Google APIs after publishing for than an year that they are not going to be supporting the older API anymore (I think the announcement was made 2 years ago, finally that API has been deprecated and we all have a CALENDAR's on our refrigerators that are not working). This trickle down firmware is normal for other companies as well (known as soak test in some circles). However, its now more than 6 months. Not sure how long more we have to wait!
This is a samsung firmware update... My guess it needs to be provisioned via the OTN updated process that samsung uses and I bet it happens on a device by device provisioning. Each samsung device has a unique DUID that when the OTN is queried and tells the appliance there is an update and the location of the update to download it from. I bet if we had a contact to the Samsung OTN support this could get resolved, but I have had no luck finding that contact... Maybe mentioning OTN to samsung might trigger a different response from their support checklist.
I did confirm that they have changed the touch screen, OS and app basis 2 years after the 4289HARS was released. Seems there are technically two 4289HARS models each with an older and a newer LCD/touchscreen. Each is said to have same functionality, but different chipset. Once could assume that some folks on here who have received the update could have those newer .2 models while we have the original 4289HARS release. Which I hate to say it, may never be updated the way it is going. When I spoke to Samsung support last, they only know about firmware that is physically posted for download. They said that OTN firmware is handled by a team that has no customer facing phone team. I asked for a supervisor who told me that network firmware updates were no longer a part of customer-facing support.

OK, so OTN updates are still pushed to their customers, but not into their face...
If a company is still doing something that may brick your property, they should be forced to support it. This is not a free service like GMail or Gcal where support could indeed be a perk for paying customers.

Is it possible that we are not getting the updates because of a port blocking or firewall setting? Does anybody know how the update is processed? Does the refrigerator check a site to see if there is an update on a predetermined schedule? Or does Samsung do some sort of push and our routers or ISP is blocking the inbound traffic?
Just check for a S/W update on my refrigerators settings and there was one. After the update the Calendar is working fine.
Well I had a post in here that described how the updates work... Not sure how, but it looks like it was deleted?????????? Anyone have a clue how that happened?

Mine was manufactured in Oct 11 and I'm in Texas (CST). Having said that, I've had a couple of problems with the refrigerator which required the screen to be replaced twice under warranty with the last time being about 9 months ago. Not sure how much of the computer that entails, but if it's the whole thing, then my computer manufacture date may be different.

On samsungparts.com, if you look up the RF4289HARS/XAA LCD screen part (chipset is included in this part) , it can't provide you will your exact replacement part until you identify what "version" of the RF4289HARS/XAA you have... it provides drop-down to select 0001 thru 0005. (See attached clip of the website) But I've searched my serial number plate, outside back and front as well as every possible selection menu and cannot find any mention of version #. But as with consumer routers, usb devices, etc... often the first of something isn't marked version 1, it only becomes the 1 when they create the 2. :(

Samsung is giving you the run around or their support is inept. Samsung is pushing the update not Google. I have been watching the network traffic and there is a request that is being made from the refrigerator many times a day to Samsung's OTN servers to look for new firmware. it returns and encrypted response that I think can be unencrypted given the keys if we could obtain them from the link above. The DUID is XXXXX'd out since it is specific to my fridge. Also it is possible that the actual firmware files are just out there to be downloaded. Looks like they use Microsoft's Azure CDN to distribute it.
Also this might help track down people at Samsung now that we know how the firmware arrives.
If we can get a hold of the firmware file we can manually update it through the engineer mode. Still no update for me btw.

My first problem was the ice maker and they replaced it along with the LCD. The second problem was the water dispenser leveler which was getting stuck and the LCD was replaced as well. Makes sense based on the other post which states the chipset is part off the LCD unit.
Since we know that an update exists we should look for a service tech update.
The reason this might be so secrete is so Samsung repair techs can make a service call to repair it .
This may not be a free update. That's why try are beta testing it on some units .
I don't think it is one patch fits ALL .
I am not sure we can hold Samsung responsible for an app they did not create , that was later deemed obsolete by Google .
So when you call Samsung , try not to get hostile with them. They are mechanical engineers not software engineers
If we divert our efforts to asking Samsung authorized repair techs outside of corporate we might get someone who know a work around
Try YouTube Samsung S/W Updates and start asking them for help. Whether for a TV or Fridge the process is the same. These teach have access we don't .

I was prompted for updates back in 2012, but I hear some people have received a new update in 2015, but I have not received notification on the fridge of anything new. You might have to reset it then search for an update like I've shown in my video. My SW Version is: 2.690 and Model # RF4289HARS/XXA.
Just a few minutes ago I was standing in my kitchen and heard my refrigerator reboot. I turn around and sure enough, it has rebooted. I think to myself, could it be it is receiving an update? I wait for the WiFi to reconnect, and click on the calendar. I am thinking, oh I bet now I can't see July, since it is now June and mine has always not shown the current month or the following month. Much to my surprise I can see JUNE and many more months! I am jumping up and down with excitement! I checked to see if the SW Update screen shows anything new, but it still displays March 31, 2015 version 2.690. I don't care, the calendar is displayed once more and I am thrilled! I am in Northern VA and the originator of this thread, back on November 19, 2014 I hope everyone soon sees their refrigerators fixed! Thank you to all the contributors, the diligent people that contacted Samsung over and over, and each and everyone of the 267 posts in this thread! Oh happy day!

apitsiaeli, I was so excited to see the calendar load that I did not click on a date to view the details. I should have know it was too good to be true. Yes, my calendar entries are an hour delayed. This is so disappointing. Sorry for the let down.
When the update first popped for me, my times were accurate...then they went to 1 hour off a short time later. I don't remember exact timing of events, but I'm thinking this app doesn't take DST into account properly.
What fixed it for me was simply putting the fridge in Central Time (I'm Eastern). Since my calendar entries are all Eastern, the times are all correct now. I'm betting when EDT is done, and we go back to EST, I'll need to flip back to Eastern on the fridge. But, at least the calendar is back.

I'm happy for you, and for the others who have received updates. But I've given up hope. Clearly we are not on the special list, whatever or wherever it is. Equally clearly, Samsung couldn't care less about our customer satisfaction. They make a great phone, and I just bought a new one, but it will be a cold day in Hell before I buy another smart appliance from them. I'm completely defeated, and I've simply turned off the calendar app. :(

I changed the time zone to Central and it appeared to be an OK Band-Aid for the calendar. However, when I noticed No Events displayed in the Screensaver Theme I clicked on the Google Calendar only to see now June and July are no longer displayed. So disappointing. I've since signed out, selected Eastern Standard time, went through the motions to load the Google Calendar and the missing months issue remains. So I wait for whatever might become available.
I am replying in this forum because we have the rf4289hars/xaa with a completely different problem and hope someone has some advice. We bought ours in 2012. About a year ago the display just died so after replacing it we purchased an extended warranty from a third party. No problems for a while. We never used the calendar app. Then suddenly a couple months ago the display began to randomly reboot several times a day. We were always able to connect to our wifi and use pandora or the news or whatever but we finally had the warranty people come out and replace all relevant components. We made sure all was working fine when they left. In the next day or so a box popped up about a software update, the one this forum lists as the most current and the one that fixed the calendar problem. But now our unit cannot see any wifi (or APs) and has no MAC address except all 0's. We have tried everything, resetting the router, resetting the display, unplugging the fridge. I went a round with tech support to no avail, had the warranty guy back but he was clueless. The samsung tech's only advice was we need a technician to examine one of the internal boards, which we will do. But is there any advice from this forum on anything to try til then that I have not thought of? Appreciate any feedback
I just called Samsung and was given the run around once more. I asked for more information as to when the updates will be rolled out, how they will be rolled out and why some of you on this board have received the updates as well as I provided them the SW version numbers to those that have been updated. She couldn't answer any of my questions. I asked for a Supervisor and an escalation to my request to speak to an upper level tech support member. The representative transferred me to Rebecca a Supervisor who stated she worked on the build team for the update and is confident that the fix is out there for my model: RF4289HARS/XAA and she put me on hold to find out how to go about acquiring a manual update if at all possible. I was thinking SD Card or what not... holding multiple buttons down / reset/ whatever else you could think of... unfortunately she "accidentally" disconnected my call after 45 minutes... I'm exhausted. I have spent hours on the Internet researching my problem. I have found two other people who experienced what I did, MAC address going all0's and inability to connect to wifi, but no solution. Samsung will not help. Their techs do not have sufficient technical knowledge to help. I did find a way to access Engineer Mode on the display which runs diagnostics. Unfortunately the menu included more options the second time I used it. By that time I had done a factory reset hoping to fix my problem. So when the menu option to show diagnostic results appeared the second time, nothing was there. Oddly enough, the software update that fixed the calendar problem for so many was the same after the reset as the one we got on May 23 that disabled our wifi.
I hope this isn't a repost of a previous comment but I watched my repair man the other day enter an "engineering mode" on my Samsung fridge. From the home screen he started to tap his finger on the very top left then the top right intermittently (back and forth in both top corners of the touch screen) and continued tapping left right, left, right , left, right until a screen popped up that said "engineering mode." This mode opened up a bunch more calibration options that us end users are not aware of. In that menu I noticed there was a "force update" option, but it appears I would need an SD card with software loaded in it to do anything. I'm no expert on this fridge but for those who are, this may open up some "hack" or "work around" options for our problems with the blasted faulty calendar app we are all having. Hope this helps some genius come up with a fix for us all.
I actually confirmed this and while doing it seen a dialogue screen pop up that says Engineering Mode enabled first then continually doing it got another dialogue box that says Developer Mode enabled... It went away and haven't been able to get it back but I still get the Engineering Mode one... Hmm...
To get back into the regular mode, I simply depressed the round reset button on the bottom of the screen.
In the engineering mode under the settings tab, you will notice quite a few more menu options. I chose not to attempt to mess with anything because I did not want to cause myself more problems. Someone please take this knowledge and work wonders for us all!!!

Nice Find!!! I was able to enter it as well. Required a pwd at the enginnering menu option. Still trying to figure out the exact sequence to get back in.
To get into Developer Mode: Enter Engineering Mode and then L - L - L - R (over and over until in)
Confirmed this but then clicking on Engineering Mode in the Settings menu ask for a password... if only we knew what the password was. If you fail or don't enter a password, you will go back to the internal settings of the Engineering Mode.

Portland OR with no update. I have been checking a few times a week for months with no luck. Also contacted Samsung support with same run around as above.
Two weeks ago we spent about $1200 on a new dishwasher. While shopping I saw the Samsung logo on a few dishwashers but avoided them as if they had an incurable disease.
My RF4289HARS/XAA has not been updated since April, 2012. Same poor customer service as many others here have experienced.

as of July 8 2015, I can now see my google calendar post update 1.520. the interface has noticeably became faster as well. The update was released on July 7th here in Australia

The current version for the Samsung RF4289HARS is March 31, 2015 version 2.690. Although the fridge is capable of manually updating the firmware, Samsung will only update via the network. I've worked with Samsung for the last three months and their "engineers" have decided it's a network issue on my end so they are done pursuing this. I've tried everything to satisfy them. Here's a few of the things I tried with no update provided:
Put the fridge in the DMZ of my router, completely open to the internet, no update.
Connected the fridge directly to my DSL modem with no firewalls or security turned on, no update.
Connected the fridge to my wireless router with no firewalls or security turned on, no update.
Connected the fridge to my cellphone hotspot, no update.
Traced all the ports and websites the fridge was trying to talk to, ensured port forwarding was on for anything possible to allow incoming traffic, no update.
If this is a network issue, it's a Samsung network issue as I'm not the only person that can't receive the update. I directly the person I was working with to this forum, doubt they looked or cared. When I asked what the next steps were, they said there weren't any as the decision of the "engineers" cannot be overridden so they are done pursuing finding a resolution to this issue.
To sum it up, if you are lucky enough to somehow get the update, consider yourself fortunate. If for whatever reason you have not received the update, enjoy your $3K normal fridge with little to no tech support or customer service to be seen. Really makes me question ever buying Samsung products again when there is such a known issue that exist but they conveniently decide it's not their issue to fix.
I even asked Samsung to make the firmware available for folks to upgrade their fridges at their own risk, no joy.

I was told that was the top and there decision was final, it was a network issue and not theirs. I mentioned this website to them, they didn't appear to care which is pretty consistent with everything posted here. Either you are lucky enough for the fridge to update via the network or you aren't.
I own the RF4289HARS as well and live in South Florida. SW version 2.550 Updated April 17, 2012.
I can't access my Google mail as well but the error message has changed recently from "Please check your email in Google Calendar website" to "Server Disconnected please try a little later". I have no problem accessing the other Apps. Anyone else have a similar message?
Hey all. I was one of the lucky ones that received the update. We live in Wisconsin. Calendar has worked since but one hour ahead. Changing the clock fixed that; we don't use the clock function so no big deal.

Yeah, I got it last weekend. At first, things didn't look good. That I know of, the frablet (fridge+tablet?) crashed twice that weekend (as in spontaneous reboot). I haven't 'seen' it crash since, but I haven't been watching it.
I haven't paid attention to the time on the calendar entries, so I don't know if that has been fixed. My only issue is that it seems the wifi connection is a bit more flaky. This is article is more a newer model. So no mobile app for us. On the RF4289HARS I have been able to successfully MITM the OTA update process. There is a key stored on the fridge however that is needed to decrypt the end user message which is sent over HTTP so no luck there. I have not tried to MITM google but if I can I might be able to force the app to use the new google authentication process via my app that I was using to use the new calendar API
I've been online multiple times with Samsung support in the past year and a half. Some reps will say that they are working on a solution, some will say that they have released a solution and I need to get the latest software update. When I ask which version of their software is the latest, they are unable to answer.
Shouldn't the company that sold the product know what software level is current?

They knew that Google was updating their interface before they released this model. Their development was predicated on an outdated version of the google calendar app, I think a class action lawsuit is our only solution.

Been running 2.720 for a few weeks now, and things are mostly OK. The only problem is that calendar entries are 1 hour off. To work around, I just set my timezone to Central Time (I'm Eastern). Now my calendar entries are on the right time.
Doesn't speak too well for Samsung's QA, but at least the calendar works.
The other issue I have is that the WiFi drops more regularly, but my fridge has never had a strong signal, anyway. I've just been too cheap to get a WiFi repeater to see if that would help.

Okay, from all my discussions with Samsung, they say it's a network issue and not their network but the ISPs we each are using. Can we get a brief discussion going about what provider and configuration those who successfully receive the update versus those of us like myself who do not? Maybe we can figure what magic needs to take place between the have's and the have not's. Another item they mentioned is the UPnP has to be enabled for the updates to be received.
I'll start:
ISP: Frontier
Internet Router: DSL modem
Home Router: Linksys WRT1900AC
UPnP: Enabled on everything
I've put the fridge in the DMZ of both routers, no change, no updates.
Well I can assure you that UPnP is not it. I'm an IT professional and I don't believe in enabling UPnP (it is a security concern). I don't want internal devices opening up ports by themselves. If a port needs to be opened, then I open it myself. So my fridge has gotten the updates and my UPnP is turned off. I think the problem with people stuck on an old version is that they missed the next update and Samsung does not have a good handle on how updates are supposed to work. So I believe Samsung puts out an update and removes the prior update. Then the current update has a prerequisite version number to be previously installed before you can update. So if you missed an update, then you are screwed.
- Samsung needs to make updates available for all prior versions. So everyone can after a few updates get current.
- Samsung needs to post a change log so we can decide if we want the update or not.
- Samsung needs to provide an intelligent means of communication with customers that doesn't fall on deaf ears regarding this product.
- If Samsung doesn't want to adequately support this product then the should post the source code and open source it to the community. There are just too many bugs on this device. It's embarrassing an unbelievable. This is Samsung after all not some cheap low market brand.

I would say its something other then above... I have been checking since the issue came up, when next firmware was available... I have multiple networks and tried tethering to tmo, att and verizon.... I tried reset and other things and I never get an update....
Take a look at some of my posts... pretty sure this has to do with OTN provisioning at Samsung. I have been sniffing network traffic and can see the beginning of the update "handshake" but it never downloads the firmware.
I've even seen where it's possible to manually install the firmware using an SD card but this only works if a copy of the firmware is made available. Concerning the traffic, I noticed that also and the Samsung techs said they could see the fridge polling and their system responding but my network was preventing it from being received. I don't buy it. They need to talk to the smart tv division because those appear to update without any issues.
I think what we should do is all flood Samsung tech support with this issue on an agreed upon day. Post all of the disparate tech support responses on this thread or another thread. Perhaps then this could then be used as leverage to get them to actually issue a firmware update to fix the Google api. The last time I spoke with them (chat) they told me that they are waiting on Google to create a new "app" and it will be 3 months....what a joke.
With all the problems we are having. I am VERY surprised some tech magazine has not picked up on this story! I heard rumors of a possible article but I haven't seen anything... Samsung must have gotten to them...LOL! I am still stuck with software version 2.550 (Model #: RF4289HARS/XAA)
Like said before, I don't think I will be spending extra money to purchase a "Smart" appliance in the near future especially from Samsung!
Same here, 2.550, probably the original that was delivered with the fridge and it's never updated since. The fact they have a manual way of updating but won't release that to the public when it's been proven the network update doesn't work also is troubling. I've searched high and low for the firmware, no one seems to have it. I would have thought it would have popped up somewhere but maybe Samsung doesn't make it available for download even for the techs.
I'm also still on 2.55. I agree with George. We likely missed an update (mine was in storage for a year 2011-2012) and now our update software is deprecated. Perhaps many of you missed your update as it sat in the warehouse. It is amazing how many hacks are available for my phone online but no one can find a way to get software that is engineered specifically for it, on this device. I will never purchase Samsung again.
Interesting.... Very actually... My fridge was bought in 2012 sept and was in storage until mid 2013 (the earliest) I did check to see if there was an update when I first got it installed.. but there was none...
2.550 for me as well. Most likely the reason why they have not updated the firmware is because this was the first generation of the apps fridge (RF4289HARS) and they are no longer supporting it. They do this with TVs as well. There is no reason why your 10 year old Samsung TV with an Ethernet port could not have a Netflix app, however Samsung would rather you buy a new TV to get this. Unfortunately this is also the case with a 3 year old $3500.00 refrigerator. It is ridiculous - I too am done with all things Samsung.

Version 2.55 and Calendar not connecting as well. I will not be purchasing any Samsung appliances in the future!!!

I just got an email confirming our suspicions that there is a hardware issue preventing some of our refrigerators from ever getting an update. I'm still on version 2.550. They suggested we replace the main board. I looked and a main board is running about $100 online. Here is the part number of main board that needs to be replaced: DA92-00146D. I will attempt to get samsung to send me a new board but I'm doubtful they will based on past history. Best of luck. Let me know if any of you successfully get samsung to send you a new board for free.

This actually makes sense to me. I purchased the fridge in Mar 2012 and had the board replaced in 2013 due to the icemaker not working. To date I have the latest updated. $100 is not that much for a newer board that accepts the updates.
I also had board replaced but they replaced icemaker and lcd screen all together because of ice maker not working. I have most current update
Do you have an email address you wrote to ? I have extended warranty on my fridge and maybe able to get the board replaced via that 3rd party, but since fridge is actually working I will need some kind of documentation to present my case...
I sent an email to oss.r...@samsung.com requesting the open source code so that I could update the firmware manually. That will get you to Korea. Good luck getting samsung to stand by their product. The person in the executive complaint division (USA) I just talked to literally hung up on me after telling me they aren't responsible for anything.
FYI the source code they send you will probably be very stripped down to just the open source parts. At least that is what I got from them last year. Let us know if you get anything better!

They never sent me source code... Samsung Korea just indicated that they were sorry for my fridge not working and instructed me that in order to fix the problem I needed a new main board. I'm so "seeing red" angry with samsung USA support I don't know what to do. Like most of you this has been going on for a year. I would have paid for the board from samsung since my fridge is out of warranty but instead they told me they are not responsible for my fridge at all despite the evidence I got from Korea. I'm not sure if I order one online I will get a "modern" one. So I guess I will sit and look at all of the "beta" markings on my software and wonder why I went with Samsung to begin with. At least the fridge is still operational unlike the samsung stove I bought.

Has anyone thought about why a refrigerator needs to be connected to the Internet in the first place? Good luck to you and all those that consciously or unknowingly buy into this idea. Right now we have a choice aligned with common sense.
No, it doesn't *need* to be connected to the internet. But neither do our homes, TVs, computers, thermostats, cell phones, cars, or anything else for that matter.

So I was one of the original model owners of the RF4289HARS/XAA and after 2012, I never received any additional updates. So I had a problem that needed to be repaired and figured if I was going to have a service person out... I'd look into exactly where the panel's PC board is located. It wasn't the main board as earlier quoted in this forum. As it happens my ice and water paddles stopped working and when went looking for the replacement part, updated parts list showed a new bundle of the dispenser paddle controlsl and user interface/touch panel all in one for around $300 to 400. I figured what the heck. So I had the local appliance center order it and install it. The lcd panel had the computer board just behind it. The main board in the back of the fridge does the cooling and controls for the compressor and main parts of the fridge. The 8" lcd panel is in essence a tablet built into the door. Update the panel and you update the pc board. I got the bundle with firmware 2.750. Google calendar works great and now supports multiple calendars. The new login for Google Calendar app displays a device code and URL on the panel that you visit on your PC and enter the CODE. Then the fridge is allowed to sign-in and works from then on. It literally took all of 15 minutes to pop the old assembly of panel/paddles off the front, connect some cables, and pop new one on. Booted up to latest firmware. Beware if you get old stock, you won't get the nuances. The part the guy ordered was DA97-11828A. It is pricy, but I have the calendar back and no more looking at and app/icon that doesn't work. This was completed last week 11/3/2015. As of that date I had received no update. I'm attaching a picture of the new update level after replacing the panel/dispenser part bundle. See attached. How can you make sure you get an updated version of this panel? Not old stock? I Google'd part and found some for $250~$300.

I called the tech guy and he said that this part number DA97-11828A is the new part number (sorry got it confused). Apparently, the panel, board and dispenser paddles were originally sold separately and had their own older part numbers (pre 2013). I guess the dispenser paddles can still be ordered separately (for $50). But this new $300-$400 part bundle replaces the previously separate parts. I guess as it's aged they don't ship it separately anymore. So the guy said if you get this new part number, you are getting new stock. But the realist in me (who was told everything under sun by Samsung Support) feels obliged to tell you that it could also have been luck that I got a new one (if the service guy doesn't really know what he's talking about). I did look on the old part and there were no distinguishable part numbers or version numbers that I could discern. So I hope I've helped. Like I said in my first post, I had a few hundred bucks in my pocket and while I was fixing the other problem, I took a chance. The service guy did say that new part actually came with 2.690 (which my old one had 2.550) and it updated just after the installer replaced it. So the software update did work to 2.750 on the new board. So fingers are crossed that if there are new updates in the future, they will download with the new board. I say again, "Good Luck, sir."
I still have this problem after 2 years......What is the resolution? Do you know? Is it google or is it Samsung......I lost my calendar and really upset about it. I just don't know which direction to go in...I just got done chatting with Samsung...and their attitude is "it will update when its supposed to..."....What are people doing to get their calendar back.

It's Samsung. From reading here, if you have one of the earlier models, bought as part of the first run, you probably haven't received any updates. Later productions seem to have a different board or maybe a later firmware from the beginning so their updates continue to come. There are a few that had the board replaced in the last year or so that have also seen updates on a fairly regular basis. Options are live with what you have, bug Samsung until they setup a service replacement of the board or buy the part online and replace it yourself (roughly $300 and if it doesn't work, most places will not allow a refund).

Well, as it started with the wrong claim that Google would be providing refrigerator firmware, I doubt that the rest is anything better than fiction.
He/She might be referring to the google app it self, they say the same thing for the android firmware on the phones.But with this provided, if I dont see an update by January, I have some firm ground for service. Even if its not via Samsung I have an extended warranty on all my Samsung appliances. But asking service company to come to look at a single not functioning app is probably crazy, when fridge is working just fine. If I have solid info from Samsung that its a board problem then it should (and its a big should) be easier.
I have all ZEROs on my mac address also and I can't get WiFi to work either. I got the run around from Samsung and finally gave up. Are you able to get the SW update via SD card?

Anyone know the fix to Samsung refrigerator wifi not working. I have had display replaced twice. The original lasted form Nov 2011 until Jan 2016 until LCD went black. The two I replaced since Jan was for wifi not connecting. I get msg "LCD not compatible with refrigerator". Samsung tech support was no help.

OK. Group. Had an interesting conversation with level Two Tech on Friday. Her job is to try to pre diagnose the problem to determine the best repair path. She was very confident in saying that a newer model year upgraded touch pad is not compatible with model years 2013 and 2012. I asked her how she could be so confident about this. She said if you registered your fridge with Samsung using your model and serial number, you would find a firmware update patch you can download to a USB thumbdrive to preform the upgrade to version 2.55 She says, that the display pads although similar are different enough for these model years where the firmware update is not compatible. The same can be said of Android phones. Call it a limitation of the display board. I went on to ask. " then why do we have a check firmware update button. She didn't want to say. But to say when one is available you Will get an email once one is available. I think this explains why some newer owners received this update and others did not.
If you want to get a level Two Tech to call you. Use your Samsung consumer portal and e-mail support to schedule a Samsung repair of your fridge. Tell them you think your display screen is defective and you want it replaced outside of warranty. If you ask them that you want to know if a newer pad will fix your calendar. They will tell you to wait. I blame Google for not working with Samsung to give users a down graded firmware patch that is complacent with Samsung. Here is another idea. If you can find a like floor model in a store and take a photo and register the store model as your own, then you can download the firmware patch and try it in your older model. What possible harm can it cause other than knock out all your other web apps. I am willing to try the update if someone can find a copy. Hope this helps.

I`m starting to notice that other apps are not working as well.... Like the AP news now says disconnected from the server try later, and the epi while starts anything you click on it just says disconnected from the server... I`m going to try to chat with them again and maybe replace this display under extended warranty...
Could be worse... the fridge could explode, like some other Samsung products lately....

So, I was able to get the screen replaced via extended warranty thru my local dealer. The new version shows 2.750 the model is still the same RF4289HARS/XAA. All apps seem to work, but picasa... Wish google photos was on this, maybe this one will be able to update on its own..
