I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone sanantoniobonds 8/13/12 1:03 PM
Did the above, and still want to start a new thread? Please provide the following information or users may not be able to help you with your specific issue:

Link to your local Google+ page (previously known as a Place page):https://plus.google.com/116352444672083855372/about
Business name (as it is in your account): Law Offices of Jesus R. Lopez
Business location: 115 E. Travis St. Ste 1542, San Antonio, Texas 78132
Business telephone (as it is in your account): 210-224-5245
Business category (e.g. hospital, etc.): Bail Bonds Service

What's the issue you're experiencing?

After verifying my google plus page, most of the information in the "About" section was gone. My website, www.sanantoniobonds.com doesn't appear to be linked to my profile anymore even though I had previously verified it. I can no longer link my google+ page to my website in adwords because they are not linked anymore.

My old google place page is still active:

I did not have the reviews from my old places page transfered and it doesn't appear as though they really merged but instead just messed up my google+ page.

The google maps search results only bring up my old google places page and not the verified google+ page.
I've also lost a significant amount of page rank for my keywords "san antonio bail bonds" because my website doesn't appear to have a real link to my google places page.

The teminology and branding is a little confusing and sometimes a business owner explains one thing when they mean something else.
I am pretty sure I understand but let me just confirm with you.

I believe you are saying you verified and merged your G+ Business page and your Google Place page as per Jade's instructions below?
If that right? So you did the verification on the + page, got the pin and entered it correct?

I just did it on my own page and it seemed to work BUT now that I think about it I did lose the about section on my + page. Not sure if that's working as intended or not. But as soon as I entered PIN, the categories, description, images and reviews from my Place page all merged into the G+ page. With no problem except as I said, I had not really noticed until you mentioned it but my about section from G+ is gone now.

In your case it LOOKS like the G+ page is merged and verified. Because it does have the check mark AND the social features AND the review button all on one page.
BUT as you said you still have a separate G+ Local page with reviews and it does not appear everything merged.

Let me ask Google and see if I can get an answer.

Linda

Oh I just remembered. After I entered my PIN it said some changes may require moderation and it could take a few days for all the info to update. (Or something to that affect.)
Do you recall seeing that message?

That could be what's up. Although in my case everything did update right away.

Thats correct I entered the pin I received in the mail, then as soon as I entered it, the "About" section information disappeared and it doesn't appear like anything really merged. When I entered the pin i believe it said it might take a few minutes before the merger took place, but I'm concerned there might have been a problem with the merger as now I just have separate sections.

Also once my G+ page was eligible for verification i lost quite a bit of ranking in the local maps search, but the organic search results for my website are still quite high, so I think it might be related to the same issue, as it happened almost simultaneously.

My website used to be linked to my G+ page and it would indicate how many people had added me to their circles but that stopped and its no longer linked ever since I verified.

I just had someone post on my forum a situation that sounds very similar.
They said they think it's because each listing was in a different Google account.

Was your G+ and Place page in the same account or different accounts?

Linda
Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone sanantoniobonds 8/14/12 9:01 AM
They were both under the same account. I created the G+ page using the same account as the Place page to make sure there wouldn't be any problems with it later down the road.
Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone Linda Buquet ~ 8/14/12 9:20 AM
OK thanks for letting me know. I'll update Google and let the person at my forum know your situation may be different.
Will let you know if I hear anything back from Google.

And again am thinking this could "possibly" be an issue of moderation and delay in merging and then will just clear up in a few days.
But this is uncharted waters for us all, so that's just a guess. If it does not resolve in 5 days please report back and I'll tell you the best way to get Google support.

it looks like you (or Google) merged your duplicate

wish i could offer some assistance, I have no idea what steps to take, in what order.
Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone Linda Buquet ~ 8/14/12 3:11 PM
The way that was written at 1st I didn't get what you meant Keenan but now I do.
Can't believe I didn't think of that since "dupes are the bane of my existence" and that's usually the 1st thing I check for when troubleshooting.
But with this new merge scenario for some reason it just didn't click.

sanantoniobonds what Keenan is saying is there must have been a duplicate listing on Google maps. It happens sometimes and G creates a dupe that has very similar name, address and phone, but maybe the name or address are just formatted slightly differently.

During initial verification when you were setting up to get the postcard. Do you remember if it showed 2 listings and asked which one you wanted to merge?
Because it appears you may have merged an empty bare duplicate listing and that's why your main claimed listing with the reviews is still live and separate.

I'm with Keenan though now in that, while I know how to deal with regular dupes, this is a unique new situation.
I'm going to have to ask Google best way to handle. So just hang on.

This a really good example of a problem that will likely be pretty common, especially in industries that tend to have lots of dupes.
I'll tell Google about this and let them know that somehow they should alert folks to check for dupes or be sure they are merging the correct Place page.

Thanks Keenan,

Linda

Now that I've gone back and read all of Matt's post, I'm not so sure.  I don't know how to tell if the dupe existed prior to the Verification/Merge or is the result of it.
Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone sanantoniobonds 8/14/12 9:06 PM
Ah finally merged, I don't know what the problem was, but glad to see it finally merged, I can tell you that before I verified, I only had one listing on Google maps, right after I verified it created a second one, I guess that is what you call a dupe. When I initially verified, it didn't show 2 listings at all, so I think Google created the second one after I received the postcard and verified. Another strange thing, is that I went to the 2nd listing that it created and went to the Google maps dashboard and verified but it let me verify by telephone.

I don't know what the problem really was, but glad it was resolved, hope this helps someone else.
Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone sanantoniobonds 8/14/12 9:23 PM
Another strange thing, my Google Places dashboard still shows two business listings for my business, when i click on "See your listing on Google" they both point to my G+ page.

Google maps now only shows one listing though, since apparently they have merged.

I don't know if I should delete one of them or if google will automatically do that, I don't want to mess anything up with my listing
Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone Linda Buquet ~ 8/14/12 9:55 PM
Oh Yea!  Jade told me they were going to try to merge the listings. So does everything look OK now?

You have 2 listings in your dashboard? For same location? Why? That’s a violation.

oh just re-read. So you DIDN'T have 2 in dash but just claimed it???
"I went to the 2nd listing that it created and went to the Google maps dashboard and verified but it let me verify by telephone."

So you just verified the dupe? Since we were trying to help you, you should not have made any moves til we got to the bottom of it.
You should not have claimed it!

Now I don't know what to do. You need to get rid of it because it's a violation BUT it may mess up what Google was just trying to do for you.

"I don't know if I should delete one of them or if google will automatically do that, I don't want to mess anything up with my listing"

No Google won't normally delete stuff from your dash. When there are dupes it's usually an unclaimed dupe on maps so they can fix it. But if you double claimed, then I'm not sure what to do now.

I guess just click delete then remove from my account. DON'T click delete from maps because they are merged so that would delete your main listing too.  But doing the above could possibly release the dupe back into the wild where it could crop up and hurt your ranking again.

I'm really tired and my brain is scrambled from this and other really complicated problems. So may want to wait to see what others suggest or let me take another look tomorrow when I'm awake. But I'm booked so may be afternoon before I can take another look or maybe even not til Thurs.

Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone sanantoniobonds 8/14/12 10:21 PM
Ok I've removed it from my Google places dashboard, so now I only have one business listed on the dashboard and hopefully that won't be a violation anymore.

Looks like everything else is alright just waiting for my G+ edits to go through.

I have taken a huge hit on the google maps rankings since I started the verification process. I went from page 1 to page 7. I don't know if this is just due to the transition or if google somehow penalized me after it created the "dupe". My organic listings on the regular google search haven't changed at all, still on page 1 there.
Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone `Keenan 8/14/12 10:59 PM
so, as long as Google handles this manually, everything is cool?

with the edits you made in MM, they'll need to be approved which will probably take a couple of days.  With the removal of the duplicate, I imagine your rankings will return.
Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone SQLPerformance 8/15/12 1:57 AM
Linda

Do you think the dupe he saw is just a temporary one used in the merge process?
Just like you get one when a part of a NAP change needs to wait on a PIN verification.

I assume a dupe is made as maybe data in the + Local Business page and the Places entry contribute to the new merged database entry.  If so users need to be warned not to claim dupes during the moderation of the new database entry and that the dupe will disappear once the merge is completed.
Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone Jade W. 8/15/12 2:47 PM
Looks like this has been resolved (with the exception of some ranking wobbliness, but I can't speak to that) with the merge on our side of the 2 Places listings?

Have we found out whether the duplicate existed before the attempted verification/merge? I think this page will be fine for now but am curious in case other pages start experiencing this issue...
Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone `Keenan 8/15/12 3:35 PM
Is it possible that there was some type of server time out or other interruption during the process, which resulted in an incomplete merge and the new half-baked listing?

@SQL the merge should happen seamlessly or immeditately.  I don't believe a dupe is created temporarily and then deleted upon completion.  Rather, in this instance Google manually removed the dupe and completed the merger.

If we continue to get reports, where would we send folks?

I would advise folks to navigate to their +Page and complete the merger from there instead of using the URL on the postcard.

I'll keep an eye out and am asking TCs to do the same. @Keenan, thanks for your help on this thread and many others!

HELP! the name of my business suddenly changed on my google+ page. It changed to a competitior's name, Kappmeyer Law Offices and it should be Law Offices of Jesus R. Lopez, what can I do to correct it?
Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone sanantoniobonds 8/27/12 7:55 PM
Also my edits never shows up, when I go to manage my google+ page it shows the correct name of my company and my edits but it doesn't show them in the public view.
Re: I've verified my Google+ Page now my information is gone SQLPerformance 8/28/12 1:44 PM
When your own Places entry is not Active and so a feed into your locations maps index cluster the merge algorithm will merge the google scraped information with a nearby similar business.  Once the Places entry is sorted out it will merge properly again.
