Why there still are anonymous reviews (new reviews) in our Google+ Local page? drsgonzalez 12/29/12 4:23 AM

Hi,

About five weeks ago we started asking our patients to write reviews about us and our practice in our Google+ Local page (https://plus.google.com/101314730224126339952/about?hl=en  sorry, I don'w know why but I can't embed the link). We only have one page as Google already merged our Google Places and previous Google+ page.

We have noticed than some reviews appear to be written as "A Google User" instead of displaying the actual name of the review's author.

Does anybody know why this is happening? As far as I know there's no way for google users to ask to post a review anonymously.

I'm concerned about this as positive anonymous reviews are sometimes perceived as spam or false reviews, damaging our reputation.

Thank you in advance.

Reviews written prior to the migration of Google Places to Google+ will show as "from a Google User" until the writer of the review creates a Google+ account.  At which time they will have the option to display the review, with their name, or suppress it.

That makes sense, but the problem is with the NEW reviews, written by Google+ account holders. It's true that they opened their Google account in order to write the review, but still agreed to display their names.

My understanding is that you can no longer leave anonymous reviews.  Leaving a review requires a Google+ account and all of those reviews are published with the Google+ Profile name.  So any anonymous reviews should be old, before May or June.

Ah, I see the ones you're talking about.  I'll ask around about them and let you know what I find out.

if the +profile is deleted (or suspended?) newer reviews default back to "from a google user" but that may not be the answer in this case.

Thanks, all -- we are investigating.

If a +Profile is Deleted or Suspended should the reviews not be deleted?

For disappearing reviews the Post stays in the reviewers stream but is missing from the Local - Your Places - #Reviews so there is some sort of mechanism stopping reviews from showing.

That is happening to us too. Besides some reviews being posted by "A Google user", another review disappeared but stayed at the G+ profile.

Google should look into this, especially if they're trying to make money with products completely or partially based on Google+ Local.

I definitely believe that Google is considering the reviews as spammy fake reviews.

If I had know we wouldn't have asked our patients to write reviews.

Are you a doctor, drsgonzalez?   The reason I ask is because we're have the same problem, but I work with physicians.  I'm not sure if they're keeping them anonymous b/c of HIPAA requirements?   Perhaps, it is a legal precaution taken by Google based on industry.  But we sort of need to know so that we can tell our patients what to expect.

Yes, I am a doctor.

I'm not familiar with HIPAA requierements, actually, as I'm not in the US.

Anyway, I don't see why any type of regulation should enforce patient reviews to be anonymised. On the contrary, I believe authors should always be identified.

As Jade stated, the anonymous reviews appears to be a technical issue/bug and the team is looking into it.

If reviews get filtered, it will continue to appear on that users +Profile IF they had selected to share it publicly (and if not publicly  you will also see it if you are in one of their circles that they shared it with).

Has this issue been resolved? I still see so many anonymous reviews. Can't imagine that this is a trick that people write a review and then delete their accounts all the time...

If the reviews were left before the requirement to have an active G+ Profile (sometime last year), then the reviews are going to remain Anonymous (unless claimed by the owner) forever-ish.

Yes, that's clear. I was asking about anonymous reviews that are date-stamped (way...) after the requirement was instituted. There is a considerable amount of them...

I am concerned about a 3* review left a year ago with no text.

It has only recently popped up so I am concerned that its an orphaned review for someone else.

1, Google should know the email of the reviewer and the email of the reviewed.  I have reported the review as 'off topic' as it has Null text, which a professional developer should understand is 'off topic' as it has no topic.
If the reviewed is not me then I would expect it to be deleted or pointed in the right direction.  Also google can see if emails have passed between my Profile email and the reviewer.  If not it cannot be a client. And I would expect it to be deleted as any review for my voluntary forum work is not relevant to my business.  Google did delete a review which was off topic as it looked like a question from a forum user who had navigated via my Profile.

2. Google own the reviews left for us. I am a professionally registered person with two Chartered qualifications and I have the right to respond to a review. I see an anonymous 3* review with no text as a libel to which I cannot respond.

@YDHere - if you have examples post them here and we'll submit them.  If a profile gets deleted, the reviews should be removed, but sometimes it doesn't work like it is supposed to.

Andrew - you may want to call Support through the Contact Us button on the home page for Places Support, (after 2pm your time.)

Keenan, in almost every app I clicked through I saw "A Google User" review post G+ policy change. Sometimes a few, sometimes more. Is it really likely that for each them people have deleted their accounts? For example: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.levelup.touiteur.
I understand we have no way of knowing - would you guess that this is a bug or some sort of hacking? Has Google tried to explain this at any point in time?

By the way, thanks for your time and effort!

Hmmmm... kinda assumed you were talking about reviews for a Places for Business listing since that's what this forum is all about.

I'm sorry - I'll look for an equivalent google play forum.

Thanks
