|[Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/7/12 1:27 PM|
This is a Rollup Thread for anyone that is experiencing a missing navbar. We need to have you post here and give us some details so we can try to figure out what is causing this issue and fix it.
Please give us the following info:
1. Blog URL
2. Browsers used and versions
3. Is Navbar checked to be visible in the Navbar editing area from the Layout of your blog?
4. Is this affecting all of your blogs? If not, please list the templates your blogs are on that are missing the navbar.
5. Can you see the Navbar when you visit other blogs?
6. Any other details of things you have tried or that you think might be relevant to help us narrow this down.
I am including a link to another thread that reported this earlier in the week in case it is related, no need to post on it, just listing it for consolidation reasons.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||John J. Puccio||9/7/12 2:41 PM|
1. Blog URL: http://classicalcandor.blogspot.com/
2. Browsers used and versions: Chrome 21.0.1180.89 doesn't work with Navbar. IE8, Flock, Firefox, latest versions, all work with Navbar.
3. Is Navbar checked to be visible? Yes.
4. Is this affecting all of your blogs? My only blog.
5. Can you see the Navbar when you visit other blogs? Some, not all.

3. Is Navbar checked to be visible? Yes.4. Is this affecting all of your blogs? Yes
5. Can you see the Navbar when you visit other blogs? No
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Katney - Blogger Top Contributor||9/7/12 5:40 PM|
Thanks for starting the roll-up, Mishka. I was thinking doing it, but I have been busy.
Currently this blog http://anothertest-katney.blogspot.com is lacking the NavBar. It is my private test blog, but I could make it public if it would help anyone.
I'm currently using IE9, but I checked with Firefox and it is not there. This blog is in minima right now. I will change the template and test another. I changed it to one of the Simple versions and the NavBar appeared.
I can see the NavBar on most of the blogs I regularly visit, but not on those reported here.
None of my other blogs are currently affected--except one which is in Dynamic Views.
But a day or two ago when I had escalated the issue one of the blogs had no NavBar when I posted. DarkUFO responded that he could see the NavBar, and when I looked again it was there.
(Just did an experiment with the test blog. Change the template back to minima and the NavBar was still there.)
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/7/12 7:27 PM|
@katney, I am starting to think this is more of an account thing because I can see a Navbar on every blog listed here (other than your private one). I am in Firefox 11+.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||John J. Puccio||9/7/12 8:00 PM|
Well, I can see my Navbar, too, on Firefox and on IE8. I just can't see it using Chrome.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Chronic Masterbaker||9/7/12 9:18 PM|
1. Blog URL: www.chronicmasterbaker.com / www.chronicmasterbaker.blogspot.com
2. Browsers used and versions: Firefox ver 13. Internet Explorer ver 8.0
3. Is Navbar checked to be visible in the Navbar editing area from the Layout of your blog? We cannot access the layout options. We can only access the Post and limited settings.
4. Is this affecting all of your blogs? It is only affecting one blog, our main chronicmasterbaker one. It has one of the pre-set templates, no modifications with html.
5. Can you see the Navbar when you visit other blogs? I can see the nav bar on other peoples blogs, but it's more of an issue where we're missing the different options on our own nav bar.
6. Any other details of things you have tried or that you think might be relevant to help us narrow this down. There are only two authors/admins on this blog. Both of us have been locked out. No one else has the password/log-in info. We have not clicked on any strange links (let's face it, this is the internet, anything can be a link to lemonparty), and it was working just fine a couple of days ago. We made a post, then logged back in and it had closed out out of everything but limited settings and posting.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Ksarul||9/8/12 7:10 AM|
In case it helps, I use Safari 10.6 and Chrome on my Mac running 10.8.1. I have noticed that the extension called "Do Not Track Plus", when enabled causes the Blogger Navbar to be hidden. When I have disabled DNT+ the Navbar reappears! This is for both Safari and Chrome.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||eugenedcohen||9/8/12 7:41 AM|
2. Chrome 21.0.1180.89 m
3. It is checked. I've even unchecked it, rebooted, checked it again and rebooted again.
4. I have only this one blog.
6. I can see the navbar if I open my blog in IE9.
HERE is the ODDEST thing of all: When I open my blog on my wife's computer, which is on the same home network as my computer, the Navbar is there. So, I take it that means others can see my Navbar although I cannot.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||eugenedcohen||9/8/12 7:48 AM|
I just tried disabling DNT and even removing it. The Navbar is still missing.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||John J. Puccio||9/8/12 10:46 AM|
Thanks, Ksarul. I disabled "Do Not Track Plus," and the Navbar is now working again for me in Chrome. However, I had to disable it altogether in Chrome; if I just disabled it for my specific Blogger site, the Navbar remained gone.
The question now is whether it's worth not having "Do Not Track Plus" or not having the Navbar. So far, it seems I can't have both.
So, I hope the Google Chrome people and the "Do Not Track Plus" people can get together on a solution to make their programs compatible with one another.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||TsCs||9/8/12 5:57 PM|
1. Blog URL: http://www.ToquasCrafts.com/
2. Browsers used and versions: Use mostly Firefox (just updated to 15) I've tried it on IE 8 & 9 all on 3 different computers
3. Is Navbar checked to be visible in the Navbar editing area from the Layout of your blog?: I have looked and looked and do not see anywhere where I can see that option at all.
4. Is this affecting all of your blogs? If not, please list the templates your blogs are on that are missing the navbar. I only have one blog.
5. Can you see the Navbar when you visit other blogs? Yes.
6. Any other details of things you have tried or that you think might be relevant to help us narrow this down. Someone mentioned to upgrade the template. I tried a couple of different versions, The one that it did make a difference I didn't like, so I reverted back to the one I've been working with all along.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||EZ Biker||9/9/12 10:05 AM|
OK, I also have DNT (Do not track Plus) and I disabled it for my specific blog, www.ezbiker.com and now the nav bar does come up! (In my Firefox Browser 15.0.1. I don't have DNT on Explorer * and that's why it probably worked when I used that browser. So I will just keep DNT disabled for my blog site, when I go to access it. My issue with the missing nav bar has been resolved, Thanks Everyone! :-D
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||John J. Puccio||9/9/12 10:24 AM|
Glad it worked for you, too, EZ Biker. Now, I hope, as I said before, that the Blogger people and the "Do Not Track Plus" people will get together and figure out a solution to the incompatablity problem of their two programs.

|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||BlossomFlowerGirl||9/10/12 6:12 AM|
All my blogs are missing the nav bar. I haven't listed them all.
1. Blog URL
2. Browsers used and versions = Firefox 10.0.2
I managed to see the dashboard (don't ask me how I did it, I can't remember), thinking the missing nav bar might be caused because I hadn't upgraded to the new interface, I clicked on "Upgrade" and clicked "Open in new tab". I then saw this - http://www.blogger.com/home
Next I clicked on the pencil thing (create new post), I made a post, clicked preview (that works but no nav bar) then clicked "Publish".
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||gaumer||9/10/12 7:15 AM|
2. I use IE
3. Yes, NavBar is marked as visible on all blogs
4. Yes, it is affecting all of my blogs.
5. I can not see the Navbar when I visit other blogs?
6. I found that on these several of my blogs, the NaviBar is hidden behind the "Add Gadget" on the layout. They are: http://earlwinegardner.blogspot.com/, http://jeremiahgaumer.blogspot.com/ , http://eugenetookedorothybiehl.blogspot.com/ and http://henrypatton.blogspot.com/
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||eugenedcohen||9/10/12 12:48 PM|
I think I have further info toward solving the problem. I had tried disabling DNT Plus, but the Navbar did not come back. However, when I also disabled Ghostery, then the Navbar came back. So, while it is above my pay-grade as to how to do a true fix to the problem, the problem appears to be that browser Extensions that block one's website tracks also knock out the Navbar. Further confirmation of this is that if I open my blog in IE9, the Navbar is there, and I have no website block-tracking extensions on IE9. Further, my wife's computer, which is identical to mine and on the same network, shows the Navbar on my blog on Chrome, and she has neither DNT Plus nor Ghostery.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||ZendoDeb||9/10/12 4:20 PM|
2. Firefox 14.0.1 (will update later and retry...)
3. Checked layout and even changed the setting (from beige to blue to black). No change. Missing from "preview" as well as base url.
4. Only 1 blog on blogger is active....
5. visited a couple blogspot blogs. No Navbar
6. Just noticed this today....
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||ZendoDeb||9/10/12 4:26 PM|
Opened IE9 As per eugenedcohen above mentioned, and the Navbar returned. My guess is that you have turned the navbar into a Google+ tracking mechanism. Sneaky on your part, but it isn't going to work... since we are all blocking tracking mechanisms.

YES, YES, YES ! ! ! ! ! !

Thanks to EVERYONE who has helped me on this!
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||allie-oops||9/10/12 11:06 PM|
Oh hooray - I fixed it, thanks to you good people! My blog:
I use Chrome, not sure what version, the latest. Someone mentioned Do Not Track, so I went to it, and checked what it was blocking on my blog page. Google +. So I allowed it to run Google +, and the navbar came back up. Hooray! And no, I could not see the navbar on other blogs either. Now I can.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||allie-oops||9/10/12 11:08 PM|
And WHY is the navbar a tracking device now???? I'd love an answer to this question.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||BlossomFlowerGirl||9/10/12 11:44 PM|
Well I don't have "Tracking Protection" to enable OR disable. And STILL there is no navbar on my blogs.
In "tools" under "Page info" is
Owner: This website does not supply ownership information.
Verified by: Google Inc.
Then under privacy and history is "Is this website storing information (cookies) on my computer? Answer - Yes. There are 32 cookies - 32 because I counted them.
I had to "unblock" every cookie just to sign in to this page. Before doing so I got this message - "Insufficient Privileges"
The ‘Insufficient Privileges’ error message in Google Sites often means there’s an item embedded on the page that you don’t have permission to view. The site’s permissions can be set differently from any embedded items within the site -- including content from other Google products like Google Calendar and Google Docs.
If you think embedded content is causing the error, you may want to try contacting an owner or editor of the embedded content. That person needs to share access to the embedded content with your Google Account. Here’s how to adjust the sharing permissions in a couple of Google products:
Of course, it’s also possible that nothing’s gone wrong and that the site owner has intentionally restricted your access. In which case you may find comfort in the old adage about “sticks and stones.”
What is this? Never before have I seen this message. What's going on, what's with all these damned cookies? Why do I HAVE to "allow" everything? Where's the navbar, why has it disappeared, why is it so difficult just to come to google help? It was never this difficult before.
The thing I do not understand is nothing had been changed from my end so why no navbar? Is it true that the navbar is now a tracking device? Enquiring mindsd would like to know.
If this is the way google is treating people then I will seriously have to consider not having blogger blogs and transferring them to another platform. I don't want to do this because I prefer blogger over wordpress, it's much easier to use....at least it used to be.
So, I ask again is the navbar now a tracking device or is this some glitch which needs to be fixed by the computer geeks?
A seriously pi**ed off Blogger.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||eugenedcohen||9/11/12 8:23 AM|
I have contacted DNT+ which is unaware of the problem, but the issue has now been turned over to their developers. In the meantime, if you open a blog in the In Cognito mode, the Navbar re-appears.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||eugenedcohen||9/11/12 8:29 AM|
As it turns out, you can "whitelist" your blog (or any blog) on both Ghostery and DNT+ and then your Navbar will be there whenever you go to the blog and the anti-trackers will still work on all non-whitelisted sites.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||John J. Puccio||9/11/12 10:25 AM|
Sorry, Eugenedcohen, but I'm using Chrome and I've continually tried "whitelisting" my blog at "Do Not Track Plus," setting the DNT+ program not to block the site, but it doesn't work; the Navbar still doesn't appear. The only way for me to get the Navbar back is to turn off DNT+ completely, meaning it's not working for any site, a trade-off I'd rather not do. I've also tried turning off DNT+ for both my blog and for Google Plus, but that results in my getting a big white square in the middle of my blog saying a "third party extension has blocked" my blog. So, for the present, I go without the Navbar.
However, it does seem clear by now that the problem exists because of the recent addition of Google Plus to the Navbar and anti-tracking programs like DNT+ blocking it. So, how do we get Google Plus off our Navbar?
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Brett from Blogger||9/12/12 12:42 PM|
Thanks for all the reports. Looks like this seems isolated to IE use and is correctable by updating your Do Not Track settings. See the steps below from eugenedcohen on how to fix this.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||John J. Puccio||9/12/12 12:53 PM|
No, it ISN'T isolated to IE. I use Chrome, and it's happening here. Have you been reading any of these comments?
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||John J. Puccio||9/12/12 12:54 PM|
For me, updating the DNT+ settigs does no good. I have to disable the entire DNT+ program.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||TsCs||9/12/12 2:02 PM|
I use mainly FIREFOX (which last I knew is NOT IE!) I do not want to have to disable DNT, I also do not want to transfer to WordPress, but I will if I have to.

|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/14/12 3:15 PM|
Okay, from my own testing of this today in Firefox 11, Chrome 21 this is directly related to any kind of non-tracking add-ons or extensions in the browser. I did not have to turn off my DNT Plus, I just had to tell it (when on a specific page) that I didn't want it to block Google+ in the social section of the list of sites being blocked. It seems that the Share button that was recently added to the Navbar to allow users to share their entire blog url (instead of just individual posts) is being blocked by the non-tracking add-on. I went to all of my blogs and set the DNT to allow Google+ and my navbar came back (after refreshing). I also allowed Google Adsense since it was blocking all the ads on my blogs too (and I want to be able to see them in case there is something wrong with them).
So please don't feel like you have to uninstall or completely disable your non-tracking add-ons or extensions...you just need to tweek them. And you don't have to allow Google+ everywhere, just on your blogs...that way you can see the navbar. If you don't want them to track you on other sites, then don't remove the blocking for it when you are on those other sites.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||John J. Puccio||9/14/12 10:46 PM|
Yes, blocking just Google Plus in DNT+ (in the DNT+ drop-down menu for "Social Networks," something I hadn't tried) worked for me. Thanks Mishka.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||TsCs||9/14/12 11:09 PM|
I have included a screen print of my DNT when you first click on the eye-con and it shows that Google + is not blocked.
I opened my DNT listing (by clicking on Settings).
I have not changed these settings. They have always been this way.
I still do not have a Navbar.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||John J. Puccio||9/14/12 11:18 PM|
Interesting; that's not the drop-down I see when I click on Do Not Track Plus in Chrome, but maybe it looks different in other browsers. In any case, just check the box next to Google Plus so that DNT+ blocks it, and see what happens. (I'd exit the browser and go back in, though.)
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||TsCs||9/14/12 11:29 PM|
I use Firefox.
I blocked Google +
I closed the browser.
It didn't make a difference.
Thank you for the suggestion.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||BlossomFlowerGirl||9/15/12 2:27 AM|
Where is this DNT - I don't have a DNT button/icon and I can't see my navbars.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||BlossomFlowerGirl||9/15/12 3:08 AM|
eugenedcohen - how do you open a blog in the In Cognito mode? This is the first I have heard of this.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/15/12 9:50 AM|
Blossom, what browser are you using...for Firefox and Chrome, DNT and Ghostery are add-ons...but in IE9 and above it is built in so it might function differently for you if you are on IE 9 or above.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/15/12 9:53 AM|
TsCs, it looks like you are using a different kind of DNT...yours is built into your AVG? It might function differently than the ones added on to the browsers. Have you tried whitelisting your own blogs?
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||TsCs||9/15/12 10:53 AM|
I have looked specifically at Firefox's DNT, and the only option I see is how to turn it on. No option that I can see to manage it, and control whether Google + is listed or not.
I do not know where to go to whitelist my blog. I did a search, and did find any helpful results.
I did go to my Blogger Layout and found where my Navbar is... it's just not usable as is, and I cannot move it.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/16/12 4:34 PM|
TsCs, your issue is completely different from what everyone else is experiencing...you might need to start our own thread so we can try to help you troubleshoot this...your navbar is not missing, it is in your sidebar for some reason...and we might be able to help you fix it, I just can't trouble shoot it here because it is off topic. Start your own thread and make sure you put in the title that the navbar has moved to your sidebar so that no one marks your thread as duplicate to this one, okay?
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||BlossomFlowerGirl||9/17/12 9:40 AM|
Mishka I am using Firefox 10.0.2. I don't have DNT or Ghostery (what is ghostery?)
Under 'Tools' > Options > Privacy, where it says "Tracking" I have ticked the box for "Tell websites I do not want to be tracked" . I have selected "Accept cookies from sites" and for "Keep until" I have 'ask me every time'. I've had these settings for a very long time and haven't changed anything.
Just went to one of my blogs and no navbar. As I posted earlier, I was able to get into my blog to post/edit/whatever by going to my picasa web albums, I clicked on my name and I don't know what I did after that because now that doesn't work either. However, if I click on

I have just updated Firefox and am now using Firefox 15.0.1. I hasn't made any difference - navbar is still not visible. Please help.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||BlossomFlowerGirl||9/17/12 10:35 AM|
This is weird. Out of curiousity,I created a new blog, selected "dynamic views" went to view it and there's a navbar but it looks very different see here http://secretsofaladyblogger.blogspot.com.au/
Now, I changed the template designer to http://secretsofaladyblogger.blogspot.com.au/ and as you can see, the navbar is no visible. So it seems the navbar is visible in the dynamic views template but no in others.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/18/12 3:00 PM|
That is because the Google + share button isn't in the Dynamic Template's navbar...only in the standard navbars. Ghostery is another add-on that stops websites from tracking you...much like DNT Plus works. Have you looked at your add-ons in Firefox to see what is in there? Do you have a virus program that perhaps has a tool that prevents website tracking?
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||TsCs||9/19/12 12:17 AM|
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||BlossomFlowerGirl||9/20/12 7:13 AM|
The add-ons are the same - I haven't added any new ones. I have the AVG free edition.
I'm interested to know the reason as to why google has added a google + share button to the blogger navbars. Curious they added it to the standard navbars but not the dynamic one.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/21/12 8:56 PM|
I think they did it so people could Share their blog's main url without having to share individual posts...sort of like having a facebook share button on the template, only the navbar is something that most people have so adding it there was the easiest way to hit everyone. The dynamic templates are a completely different kind of set up and I am sure they are working on getting it for there as well, but even in dynamics the individual post share buttons are different and it took them quite some time to get the navbar and share buttons to even work there. The dynamics are based on the feed of a blog so it has to do with the source I am sure.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/21/12 8:57 PM|
I think the free AVG has a no-tracking option...you might need to look at its settings.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/22/12 10:08 PM|
Did you see this reply Blossom Girl?
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||BlossomFlowerGirl||9/23/12 5:51 AM|
Mishka, the Do Not Track in AVG Free works in Internet Explorer and I've found the Navbar is there in IE, but not in Firefox. I disabled the AVG Free and the Navbar is still missing.

sorry - where is tools?
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Shjared||9/25/12 7:41 AM|
2. Firefox 15.0.1
3. cannot see the navbar options at all in the layout section
6. I recently uploaded a new template from a different site. No one else on the site appears to be having trouble with this issue. When I restore back to a 'simple template' the navbar is there. When I download this new template it is gone. I think it must be something with the template but can't figure out how to get it back.
Someone below mentioned 'tools'. I can't see a tools section.
Others mentioned disabling tracking from google+. I am not even sure what google+ is and haven't signed up for that feature. I prefer not to.
Any suggestions? (I think my blog is private but I can allow someone to visit if they can help!)
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Shjared||9/25/12 7:48 AM|
Agreed. I don't have a tools option.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/25/12 9:50 PM|
@Dolly, your issue is not the same as this thread is set up for. Your navbar is in the sidebar due to something being wrong in the template. If you have a template from another site, you might need to talk to the creator of the template to get help from them.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/25/12 9:52 PM|
@Luanne, your issue is also not the same as this thread...this thread was strictly due to the Google+ share button being blocked by a number of "no tracking" addons in the web browsers. Your navbar is either turned off or has been edited out of your template. You can sign into your dashboard at any time even without a navbar by just going to www.blogger.com and signing in. You can also visit another blog and then click sign in from their navbars.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/25/12 9:56 PM|
@Blossom, I think I remember you saying you had the most current version of Firefox...and I don't, so it could be that there is built in options for no tracking in Firefox in the newest version without it needing to be an addon? Have you check in Firefox's options to see if there is any kind of setting that can be adjusted? Double check that you don't have Google + or Google Connect blocked in your cookie settings? Tried clearing the cache and cookies in Firefox? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure out what is causing your specific issue.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||Mishka - Google Top Contributor||9/25/12 9:57 PM|
@shjared, the third party template is your problem. You need to find another template to use or use one of Bloggers.
|Re: [Problem Rollup] Navbar Missing||88/Rx||10/8/12 2:07 PM|
Hah! That sure fixed it in about a nano second, and I'm using "Chrome" in "XP". Before I found your fix here, I found this other almost as quick method to make your navbar appear only when you put your cursor over where it goes, if anybody cares..Navbars are handy, but not very attractive, so it's kind of cool to just have it when you want to.....Well, if you've managed to restore it in the first place...Anyway, thanks for pointing me towards that "AVG Do Not Track" tab, and here's that other link:http://shabbyblogsblog.blogspot.com/2009/10/disappearing-nav-bar-tutorial.html
