|Moving from Hosted exchange where most users use Outlook Web access||Dartdog||4/8/12 2:30 PM|
Domain Name: new
Users Affected: 30
I'm in the process of moving 30 or so users from a hosted exchange server where most (but not all) users have been using the Outlook Web Access(OWA). We don't have access to an admin password.. and are doubtful we can obtain from the current vendor.. As I see it the only way to get all the info out is to set up outlook on a desktop and download each user then use the Gamme? tool to upload each user..
I'm a bit surprised there is no Imap/MSExchange to Gmail migration that can be used one mailbox at a time without admin access,, with the increased use of Outlook Web Access this will become an increasingly prevalent scenario.
Anyone have a better way to do this, it is looking like a real pain..(and a long time...)

I meant using the Google outlook migration tool, not Gamme (still getting used to the new acronyms) And I need the contacts as well as mail...

Further research shows that those using Desktop outlook are using "exchange" not Imap or pop3 and the data is contained in an OST file vs a PST file.. There do not seem to be ANY Google provided tools for handling this sort of environment...
Surely there are some solutions??

Well I thought I was making some progress, got individual access to the accounts via pop3/imap.. but I thne discovered that I cannot use Gmail fetcher to get mail form the same address. ie get mail form the old provider at tom@oldaddress to the new Gmail service tom@oldaddress gmail will not allow the fetch address to be the same as the current address,,, (even though the server would be the old server....)
This makes it impossible to set up a trial install....

Your employees can use http://ShuttleCloud.com for self-service migration from IMAP to Google Apps. You just have to install it in the Google Apps domain, and then each employee can run it and migrate from his or her Google Apps account.
