Finding out what pages have been viewed by a specific visitor? kiwinz 3/20/12 10:24 AM
Hi I would like to know how I can use google analytics to work out what pages have been viewed by a specific visitor?

Is it possible to track the movements of someone who has visited your site?

In Demographics - Location you can work out what city the visitor is from but I can only determine what keywords they may have used and what page they viewed first (the landing page).

It would be great to know what pages they have viewed to see what content has been of interest.

Many thanks

It will allow you to track visitors in aggregate however not individuals.
GA doesnt track personally identifiable information such as IP, email addys etc.. and to try and use it in such a manner goes against the GA TOS.

You may want to look into setting up custom variables for sessions and pages, will link to further info for you

What about shopping carts that usually give every shopper a unique id even when they don't buy anything?

Couldn't you pass the custom session variable as this shopper id and potentially track a visitor to the point that if a sale is made then you can see in your shopping cart who that person actually is as the shopping cart would show that same id as shown for the visitor session in GA?

I mean I could see Google seeing xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and know it's an ip address, or even acc...@email.com as personally identifiable information, but would XMa8939asd0uf8923rf0q23fqw0 really hit some alarms over at Google HQ if they never knew that same identifier was being recorded in the shopping cart, even if the dynamic url contained it on every page, as as http://www.mysite.com/items.asp?sessionid=XMa8939asd0uf8923rf0q23fqw0&itemid=0029281&view=default

It depends on what you are tracking and how you go about it.. finally found the post i had been hunting for...
The reply by PPC_Guru in the following thread gives a good explanation and some food for thought

Thanks Whims however I'm not interested in tracking ips or email addresses.

As an example (using the image attached) - I know I can select the US visitor and see what city they are from and view what keyword/browser/landing page they utilized.

Since the US visitor stayed on my site for 15 minutes - how can I find out what pages they viewed during their visit?

Thanks
