I'm thinking it must be an error automated email because I can find nothing about any pending cancellation in the account itself, very odd and annoying.

Can you post the email removing any identifying information about you, but providing the source header type information? If you can't don't worry -- it is important not to disclose any personally identifiable information here -- I just want to be sure this email really has come from Google.

Hi, thanks for the reply / attempt to help me out. This is weird, I can't find the email at the second and I didn't delete it either, I'll check the bins etc just to make sure, that or someone at google has had one too many pops this Independence day (thanks for reminding me).
I've escalated this issue for the attention of the AdSense pros as it seems a fair number of "cancellation" emails have gone out. As it is a public holiday in the US today, I expect we won't hear anything until tomorrow. However, if you've received one of these cancellation notices please feel free to append your report to this thread.
(The reports so far indicate the emails are coming out of Europe, in multiple languages.)
If your account is otherwise in good order, I wouldn't worry about it.
Thanks, I've found the email. Seems to be for a different account. I don't remember having 2 adsense accounts though, is it safe to send you the adsense or billing id in that email (its different from the one attached to main account which is the one I was concerned about. I'm guessing that's why I can't see any problem in that account.

A further update -- there are many more reports of this problem coming in, so it is some sort of glitch. I think most of the reports are coming from Europe.
Google's HQ is closed today for the the US independence Day holiday, and staff are taking some vacation time in the days following, so there may be a delay in getting an official answer about the problem. However, I would suggest if your account is otherwise in good order and you can access it safely through google.com/adsense, you should not worry. However, please feel free to file reports on this thread and if you are having access troubles associated with the email, also let us know.

I have received the same mail and I am based in India.
My account is no longer available on AdSense. Also, my AdMob account is not available now. I get this message when I try to sign up afresh: Sorry, **my gmail id** cannot sign up for AdMob at this time.
AdMob requires a valid AdSense account and AdWords account. However,
there seems to be a problem with one or both of your accounts.
So in short, Google has nuked both my accounts for no apparent reason.
I agree today is a public holiday but this counts as a high severity issue. No on-calls in Google? That's disappointing.

I also received an email at 12:20 PM CST stating my Google Adsense account is being canceled. All of the links on the email did send me to Google Adsense login. I see in the discussion there is a possibility that this maybe Untrue. Standing by to resolution to this issue.
Same issue here. I was an administrator on the account, and the owner of the account got the email. When I go to log in to adsense, it says there is no adsense account associated with my email.

same problem, i just got an email saying my account was recently cancelled and then my last payment will be processed if it's above 10 euros. The account is from germany.
The weird thing is i haven't used it really, i created it trying to monetize a blog, but it was denied since i just started the blog, since then i have not done anything with the account. But i am going to start a youtube channel and would like to monetize it.
Also when i try login into adsense, it just stays at the log in, so if i type in the password it just goes back to the screen with the password field blank. But if i try another password it says it didn't match.
Obviously this is a widespread, world-wide issue, but unfortunately it may be some time (perhaps several days) before we get an answer from Google. Realistically, while it is frustrating, it isn't a health and safety issue so I wouldn't call it an "emergency". Please continue adding your reports to the list including where you are, and whether you are still able to access/login to your account at google.com AdSense.

I also received the cancellation email today, but when I tried to log in to my Adsense account, it said it did not exist. So my account was definitely terminated by Google.
Does that mean I should open a new account? I am in Northern California.

So, I don't care if it is cancelled, but I do care if my site or Adsense was hacked, so I want an answer about what happened. There is no way to send a simple email to them. And I don't see an answer from them in this forum.

There is definitely something weird going on. I went to my blog and if you try to change your ads, pornographic ones come up or ones about meeting women from Asia for sex and it won't let you save any changes to remove those ads. I think the system has been hacked.
That would definitely be a MAJOR hack. Even more strange is there's no word from Google, and no news related to this event.

I read in Help files that any previous ads I created will also be removed, and that you can't sign up for AdSense again with the same e-mail. I really liked AdMob, and that's what I planned to use for ads in all my future apps, so it would be very upsetting if I have to find a different service and get it working. I hope my AdSense and AdMob accounts can be restored soon (ideally with my settings still as they were, but if that's not possible then I suppose it's not too hard to redo my settings, since I hadn't ever done much in the first place).

I don't understands. I was never able to get adsense up and running. Nothing I did would activate it. I was told I was approved for it. I don't mind the cancellation, but I never had the application. It was impossible to figure out, like so much of dealing with you guys. Was the language deliberately obtuse, or am I being punished for the content of my blog? This has been most frustrating.
I would suggest everyone change their passwords now. It won't be long before something like this hits Gmail, too.

Yup. Same issue. Didn't even know I had an adsense account. I'd like to see if there was any money in it, if so... buuttttttt login isnt possible. Just circles me back to the password screen. If I enter the wrong password, red text error message, but if I put in the right one, brings me back to the login screen to keep entering in a password.
It is evident that Google is turning its focus to the 20% that bring in revenue. That means their focus is that they don't care and have decided to cancelled accounts that were probably generating little to no income, or they have determined won't generate enough money because of the uptime to get these individuals online and profitable.
As such, it is not necessary to work with Google. I would suggest you look to Microsoft and other marketing companies. Google is essentially full. They just don't have the guts to tell the truth, which means it is best to not even try with this company anyway.

We should not have to chase down the answers to this problem. No reason given.
Google should mail out official re-instatement emails for all the accounts they canceled without asking users if they wanted to be canceled.
Even "inactive" accounts may have legit reasons for being inactive.

Others, by people asking if certain things they saw were me and I would have no idea what they were referring to or where they got this info.
(Or worse, people just assumed things they saw were put up or written by me that were not and seemed dumbfounded when I told them I have no idea what they are referring to, its not me, etc. like they could not imagine such a thing could happen to anyone...)
This issue is not acknowledged enough or mentioned as something to watch out for if you read advice about what to do if your identity has been stolen...
People think ID theft just means look at your credit reports and only worry about what is there and for me, it's been far from that simple.
So far, no one has been given me any actual advice on how to end these problems...

When I try to access my AdSense account it tells me I am not signed up (which is untrue). I received the cancellation email at an email address that I do not believe is associated with my blog where my AdSense account is connected to. I'm assuming/hoping this is just a glitch on Google's part and that they will rectify it as soon as possible.

I just realized this is AdSense. I originally thought it was related to AdWords. I signed up for this several years ago and haven't used it for a very long time. I don't blame them for closing it on me. I was wondering if others realized that it's AdSense, a program that advertises on your web page and pays you by clicks.

Same thing here. No one to talk to. When I tried to log into my Google account (not the Adsense one) it wouldn't let me with my current password. I had to get a code sent to my phone in order to log in, and had to change the password. It's strange to say I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem.
I got the same email. I checked my account. Looks like I'm still up and running. This has to be a scam. Do NOT reply to any link or supply any information to any of the links! Treat it as you would an email from a bank saying "Please contact us immediately or your account will be closed"...They will ask for your sign in info, bank account info and wipe you out.

If you read the terms you agreed to, Google can cancel accounts without notice and without giving a reason. You agreed to that.
Yep, I think we all know that, it would still be nice to know whether a Google employee (or algorithm) has just decided to have a brain fart today because they were bored or whether their is actually a problem with the service. Maybe we just wait for the security bulletin that millions of Google AdSense accounts have been hacked :)

I got an Email today - That my AdSense account was canceled. (See the screenshot attachment of the mail) Its embarrassing - since I do not have any Adsense or AdWords accounts.
I don't even have a website!
But For these two reasons I can't log into my 'AdMob' account. I am now totally blocked! ( see my Screenshot attachment for AdMob block notice)
Please note: I have an app published, and two are in beta testing soon to be published, Still I didn't made any integration with my AdMod account, I am waiting for 5000 Active daily users for my current published app.

Had this same email today, and now when I try to access my AdSense account, it says there's no account associated with my email address. Don't think my account has been hacked as it has a strong password and 2-factor authentication turned on. To be fair, I rarely used AdSense, and I do understand that Google has the right to cancel accounts at any time, however, it would be nice to know just why this has happened. Is Google simply cancelling all accounts with less than a certain threshold of activity/balance? Or is this something more worrying like a hack attempt? Would really like an official word from Google on this.

I received the same email but it was not to my main google account which I use for Admob, it was to my personal account which I never thought I'd signed up for Admob. Now that I look in the email history in that account I see that I signed up to Google Analytics in 2012, probably just exploring it before setting up my main account.
It makes me wonder if Google intended to close down old, unused accounts, but it looks like a lot of genuine accounts were caught up in it. My main account still works with Admob for now, but obviously this is very concerning!

Has a link to 'Contact Us/Live Support', which just goes to an extremely unhelpful Help page with no sign of any way of contacting Google.
Seems like some sort of scam to me, so clicked 'Report Spam' and will ignore anything similar.

I can't believe that I got email that my account has been cancelled. I didn't even started using Adsense , I just finished app integration week ago but update was not like,ads were not showed.
I am kinda glad that so many people are having the same problem,hopefully Google will find the problem soon, this is ridiculous.
I've had these messages before, usually I could get around it by opening an incognito tab (and then logging in from there), worth a try.

The fact that we have to rely on volunteers such as yourself to provide leadership is a huge signal of what's wrong with Google. Then again, they have so much money they don't give a flying fig newton what their users experience.
I reported a glitch in the Chrome browser 10 months ago and got nothing but the run-around. Never once was I able to interact with a Google employee, though I saw hundreds of other people complaining about the same issue in forums.
I am extremely frustrated...no...angry that this has happened and Google is essentially stealing money people earned in good faith.
I hope they fix the problem, but my faith in Google is very low and I can't be the only one who feels this way. Google is beginning to have a bigger problem looming that can hurt stock value, and that's lack of consumer confidence in their brand.

What is upsetting is that there was no warning or notice. My account was not inactive, it was in progress. I guess things weren't fast enough for Google. Not only that, because of my "lowly" standing with AdSense, I can't communicate with them at all. And they do this during a holiday. Pitiful way to do business. Why would they think I would want to go through all of this again with a new account?

1. send out a mass mailing on a US holiday weekend and THEN
2. On the following Tuesday, send out an explanation email.

WHY don't they invest more energy into "Getting New Users Started" and "Applying Adsense in xx easy steps". Not everyone is a developer. If just learning, it can take months to years for ordinary people to learn how to do frills like Adsense. -- Oh, I forgot-- Google has no "ordinary" people working there.

I did what google suggested in the email “Google AdSense Account Closure”, I visited the www.google.com/adsense with my email address but I could not sing in in this site. The site said:

I just received an Email from Google Adsense explaining what happened to my account. Google is cancelling an account I did not know I had that was generated from a gmail I created many many years ago. It would probably have been better if they had sent this email first instead of the one that had half the world up in arms. Let's how Google works on their communication skills.

You should have been able to enter your banking info unless you have at least $10 in the account & if you have at least $10 then they need that bank info in order to send you the balance.The problem I am having is that there is no way to reopen the accounts or access the closed accounts. In many cases the bank info you give Adsense isn't private information since it's printed on every check that is given to anyone (at least in the US it is). The bottom of every check has a routing number & account number so the bank knows which account to charge it against & most people don't think twice about handing someone a check with that info. Thus it doesn't take a hacker to get it.
Hey Guys, thought I should share this with you. For anyone who would like to use ADMOB only but does not have a website currently. This is what I did.
1. Go to https://apps.admob.com/admob/signup (Use incognito if signup form is not visible, thats what I did)
2. Register with a DIFFERENT email address. (they wont ask for a website)
3. Everything is back to normal now so continue what you were doing :)

That is not ok. It is not just bank information. It is a lot of information tide to the bank information. There is no way for me to remove any of the data or verify what the information is that is locked. There was no warning. No 30 day notice.

Read the contract you agreed to. You agreed to them having that info. The contract also says nothing about warnings or 30 day notice.
Yes you are correct the previous answer only applies to persons who were in the process of creating an app and had no use for AdSense thus the cancellation of their program.
Still it's really bad service from Google and I think it show the darker side of the company as there is literally no way for anyone to contact them if you don't meet a certain requirement that in fact requires an account to meet. These types of paradoxes are usually only found in science and science fiction movies. If there found in reality it usually means somethings up.
Well, Google AdSense Team has come through with an explanation for me. I am happy with their response, my blog isn't exactly a traffic generator, but why Google didn't just put this explanation in the first message and avoid all of the backlash on this forum and other outlets amazes me. Thank you to the smart people at Google who sent me this email and I suggest you talk to your colleagues regarding improving their customer service skills.

Why is it absurd? Read the contract that you agreed to. They can cancel your account at any time without giving a reason. You agreed to that!
cbpayne , Absurd or not, this is definitely an unethical practice considering it is not only affecting people relying on the service for revenue but also because it concerns funds which people had in their account before the account was cancelled. From my understanding, there is also a cancellation fee associated with cancelling accounts but google hasn't addressed that either. Did we get charged or not? I will not go into details on what an ethical alternative would have been since that is relative anyway, but your responses are not beneficial in obtaining information or a resolution to an issue affecting hundreds of people.

@ps1819grits No doubt it is a generic email, but in my case it makes for a reasonable explanation, even if it is a mass produce email by a bot, as long as it aligns sensibly to my case I don't care. Those with an active account would obviously still be left frustrated.
There is no dispute in what @cbpayne has said, I think the frustration that everyone feels is in the higher expectation (right or wrong you can argue) of the service from Google on this matter. People may even argue that it tarnishes their name and they won't use google again, blah!, blah!, blah!, but at the end of the day it will make little difference unless millions of users including corporate customers suddenly walked hitting them in their hip pocket.
Buyer beware, you get what you pay for, and when it is free to signup I guess we shouldn't expect much especially when the terms and conditions already told us so, even from the likes of Google, despite our personal needs for companies to make us fell warm and fuzzy. Good luck to those who had active revenue generating accounts on this one.

Probably not; I assume you have to apply again with a good site that is guideline compliant etc - and there is no guarantee you will be approved.
But how to verify payment details when we can't login? Since the mass closure is for inactive accounts, most likely payment details would be outdated...
We used to be able to use AdMob without having to file a successful application for AdSense. I'm using Google Apps, so it doesn't make sense for me to have to use a different account just to sign up for AdMob again - I should be allowed to use this same account. But yet when I go to the AdMob page, I am prompted to create or reapply for an AdSense account now.
The official response to the situation doesn't make it clear whether my settings I had in AdMob will remain if I "reactivate my AdSense account" or if they are gone permanently. The word "reactivate" implies they would remain (or at least generic AdSense settings would remain), but the word "reapply" makes it look like it's starting again from scratch. I would like additional clarification on both issues -- (1) Has there been a policy change so that we now need a successful AdSense application in order to use AdMob and (2) Will AdMob settings remain if an account they cancelled is reactivated or are those settings gone?I was just about to use my AdMob account this coming weekend (as a paying Google Apps user), and I have generated test ads this year -- I abided by the policy to not call real ads from my own devices. AdMob was an easy and respectable ad service, and it's what I wanted to use for my upcoming apps, but if I need to have a website with tons of content and/or views in order to "reapply" for AdSense in order to get AdMob back then I don't think I'll be able to get AdMob back. I don't want to have to find something else.
This is ridiculous - sure the accounts were inactive, but might have held 1-9$ in them,. to close these accounts WITHOUT ANY WARNING AT ALL,. is not cool,. if we had a warning, at least we could have done something about it.

Geeze -- an inactive account after many years with less than $10, and you are worried about the loss! The energy/time in fussing over the matter is far greater than the value lost. However, I certainly believe Google mishandled this process -- a proper explaining email/notification would have made sense, and even wiser, Google should have done the process through a modest but significant sample of the overall base of inactive accounts, where it may have discovered some of the inconsistencies and confusions especially relating to AdMob publishers. As well, Google went ahead with this account closing process on a public holiday and failed to even give the Top Contributors on the forum advance notice of the issue -- so we were caught fending the dozens of inquiries without an understanding of what/why things were happening the way they were.
The idea of closing truly inactive accounts is good. The execution in this situation is bad. I suppose we all make mistakes from time to time (I frankly make far more than my fair share of mistakes!) but when Google errs, it can be a pretty large-scale headache.
I had an active account with a $100 coupon, I had a campaign running for tests over the past few weekends. I spent hours researching for keywords and yet I still got the account deletion email. I understand that Google can't provide support for small customers like myself thus I will not work with Google again in the near future.
Never trust the pigs at Google. I've been trying for over two years to get my account back. They dont care.
Zourp, you are confusing AdSense with AdWords, and your AdWords account should not be affected by this notice. At some time you may have set up an AdSense account, possibly for a website or blog, but you may have forgotten it. AdSense posts contextual ads on participant's sites -- the ads that appear are from AdWords.

I can still see my Account ID and my Client ID on my blog dashboard where you can select how Adsense is shown on your page. I cannot sign up for it again (tells me there is an ERROR). What in the world?? And why is there no real explanation from Google?? This is ridiculous!! If you're going to cancel my account and tell me I can sign up again then at least make it POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Google cancels your account because the site produce less than $ 25 / week, but we complain that the diversity of Google ads running is very poor. My visitors always see the same 3 ads, with that I cannot encourage them to click and therefore I´m out. Them Google will have to eliminate more than 85% of its announcers. And then?
Has anyone had any luck in either resolving their account closure or claiming their funds? If anyone from google is reading this, I also have another post on here.

I lost money on this. My account wasn't inactive, it was just pulling in very low income over the years and was below the refund threshold. The money itself (such as it was) isn't the point. I was told by one of the volunteer 'support' people that if your account was below a certain threshold (depending on your currency, mine was AUD $10) then you can kiss it goodbye. Apparently it "went back to the advertisers", which is nice for them getting free advertising from a page with my original content.

I received this same email last night. Now my account is disable. The Adsense ID on the cancellation does not match my youtube Adsense ID.

So apparently, they are discontinuing Hosting your store on their site. You can do one of two things. Host the product links /banners on your site or sign up as an influencer, through an invitation.
