  ====   Page Rank has dropped?   =====

There has been a recent, (or is a current/ongoing), change to PageRanks (PR).
This may mean that for some of us, the PR shown on our sites/pages has changed (lowered or dropped to Zero etc.).

PageRank is based on the Quantity/Quality (Emphasis on Quality!) of InBound Links (IBLs) to your site (links from external sites).
Technically, PR is something that we should not have any real influence over - due to the point that we should not be making links to our own sites!

For those of you that Didn't read the FAQs (as asked).....

[ The below is a straight copy from the FAQ page for Crawling/Indexing/Ranking ]

Q: My site's PageRank has gone up / gone down / not changed in months!
Don't worry. In fact, don't bother thinking about it. We only update the PageRank displayed in Google Toolbar a few times a year; this is our respectful hint for you to worry less about PageRank, which is just one of over 200 signals that can affect how your site is crawled, indexed and ranked. PageRank is an easy metric to focus on, but just because it's easy doesn't mean it's useful for you as a site owner. If you're looking for metrics, we'd encourage you to check out Analytics, think about conversion rates, ROI (return on investment), relevancy, or other metrics that actually correlate to meaningful gains for your website or business.

As PR is based on external factors (external links and other sites) it is technically out of our control.
The changes in PR could be due to many things - including;
* Other sites ceasing to exist
* Other sites removing links to your site
* Other sites blocking links to your site (nofollow, redirects etc.)
* Links on other sites being devalued (Worth less than before)
* Links on other sites being Annulled/Ignored (site is no longer trusted, nature of the link questioned etc.)

# If you think about it, it could be to a site that linked to a site having their PR changed… that results in your PR change?

# It does NOT necessarily mean you are suffering a penalty or are somehow being picked on by Google.

--- For those of you that insist that you have been penalised ---

Honestly, do you really think that you have been manually examined, found wanting and had a handcrafted PR penalty applied?
Seriously – if you honestly do think that – then WHY?  What have you done that could warrant such a thing?  Go fix it now and file a reconsideration request!

This is a "general auto-response" post.

This is not a Topic for discussion - it is a point of reference to save having to type the same answer repeatedly due to the sheer number of people that don't seem able to find the FAQ or the various other posts questioning PR changes.Thank you for taking the time to read this Auto-Response.

Further points and clarifications.

# It is possible that Canonicalization issues can be a factor in PR results appearing to change/drop.
* If you have both www and non-www working - please check both formats before panicking!
* If you have incorrectly setup redirects, it may cause problems.
* If you have recently setup redirects, it may be that the PR change occured and the timing was bad - so the PR is not showing properly (it has not changed/dropped, you jsut can't see it as it's referencing the old format?) (this can apply to both www/non-www and choosing a preferred domain name etc.)

# Selling Links can result in such an occurrence
Just in case you missed the subtle hints above!
* Stop doing it
* Clean up the site and conform to the Guidelines
* File for reconsideration!

# This is NOT an official/sanctioned post.
This is merely me getting tired of posting the same sort of response as hardly anyone seems to read the FAQs or other posts!

For those of you that are seriously worried about having a low PageRank - and aren't interested in listen to us, there is a well established and long standing site that has PR info;
