Adsense reinstated after successful appeal; will monetization tabs be re-enabled? sigmasquared 12/19/11 7:51 AM
A couple of weeks ago my AdSense was disabled for "invalid click activity," as per my post at: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/AdSense/thread?fid=1b38c9fbe6d0ff170004b4739484b930&hl=en

I filed a successful appeal, and heard back from AdSense 12 days later: "We have reviewed your circumstances and have reinstated your account, effective immediately. Please note that there will be a delay of up to 48 hours before our servers are informed of the update and ads start running on your website again."

During the time that my account was under investigation, the monetization tabs of my channels were disabled. Will they automatically be re-enabled at some point over the next 48 hours?

I'm not sure about how quickly your monetization will be re-enabled, I would contact partner support if it's not re-enabled within a couple days.

But equally importantly, what did you say to them in your appeal?  As you probably know, winning an adsense reinstatement appeal is akin to winning the lottery.  I'm really curious what you said to get your account reinstated.

Thanks.

The first two paragraphs of my original post at:  http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/AdSense/thread?tid=1b38c9fbe6d0ff17&hl=en is what I had written in my appeal. I didn't expect to be reinstated after hearing all the stories out there, and definitely consider this a serious blessing.

I would guess that they are giving a lot of leeway with the introduction of trueview ads and the reporting problems that might accompany them.  Usually saying 'I didn't mean to do it' is met with a swift rejection of the appeal.

If you want to read comments in the future (in case someone hasn't mentioned it already), click on 'comments' link in the notification email when you get a comment.  If you want to view your videos for whatever reason without registering an impression you can always try viewing them in your annotations section of your account.  Then you can watch without registering an impression.  Or you can use an ad blocker, although I'm not sure which ones work on prerolls and whatnot.

It has been over 48 hours now, and my YouTube monetization tab is still disabled.

Very shortly after my AdSense was reinstated, I did receive automated emails from YouTube: "Congratulations, you can now earn money from your YouTube videos! Click here to begin."

However, "Click here" would just lead to "My Videos," where the monetization features are still not present. Does someone from YouTube have to re-enable my monetization features on YouTube manually?

I have also verified that under my AdSense account settings, under 3rd-party access, it says "Enabled" for Host "www.youtube.com."

I noticed another thread with the issue of the disabled monetization tab after AdSense reinstatement, and that still hasn't been resolved for months. I hope this can get resolved.

Update: it has been over 72 hours now, and the monetization tabs of my YouTube channels are still disabled. All the usual checks are good:

- In AdSense, 3rd party access for www.youtube.com says "Enabled"
- publisher ID listed under YouTube Monetization tab matches

I also happen to have a minor website that doesn't get much traffic, that uses Google Custom Search (which is adsense enabled), and I've seen hits/clicks coming through from that since the reinstatement. So it seems like AdSense is up and running nicely, and the problem is strictly on YouTube's end. I assume that once YouTube disables the monetization tabs, it's permanent, and requires manual human intervention to re-enable them?

Doesn't look promising however, after reading the other posts by those in the same boat as me. It's only been a few days for me, whereas others have been waiting weeks or months without a resolution. Yikes!

I'd suggest contacting YouTube through their support email. If you ask me Google really needs to hire some more HUMANS to run these kind of things. Robots should have no part in this.

Do you mean YouTube partner support? I'm not a full partner, so I wouldn't be able to use that.. (or my attempts to use it would go ignored, as far as I know).
Re: Adsense reinstated after successful appeal; will monetization tabs be re-enabled? ugleeee 1/1/12 8:00 PM
I've contacted partner support from channels I have that are not full partner channels and I've gotten real answers.  Still not very often, and most of the time they give a form letter and some links, but I would definitely try partner support.  It can't hurt.

Okay, worth a try. I just sent a Partner Support request as you suggested...
Re: Adsense reinstated after successful appeal; will monetization tabs be re-enabled? sigmasquared 1/5/12 12:04 PM
What I had written to partner support on Jan 1/2012 (via the partner support web form):

My Adsense account was disabled on Dec 7/2011, then reinstated on Dec 19/2011, after a successful appeal. The monetization tabs on my channels are still disabled after 12 days.

Today, Jan 5/2012, I received this response:

Hi,

To learn more about this topic, please visit our Help Center at
http://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1727191.

---

Unfortunately they didn't seem to address my issue properly. Perhaps they immediately read "My Adsense account was disabled on Dec 7/2011," and replied without reading further?

How about, give it another try starting with "my AdSense account was REINSTATED after being disabled in error..."
Re: Adsense reinstated after successful appeal; will monetization tabs be re-enabled? sigmasquared 1/5/12 7:38 PM
What I ended up doing was replying directly the the email containing that initial response, clarifying my situation. The support rep got back to me a few hours later and restored my YouTube monetization tab. It was only re-enabled on my one channel at first, but I explained that I have a second channel, and they promptly re-enabled that as well.

I'm glad this finally got resolved!

Congratulations!     It seems very VERY few people win their appeals.    Can you let us know how you did it?
Re: Adsense reinstated after successful appeal; will monetization tabs be re-enabled? sigmasquared 1/5/12 8:21 PM
@taofledermaus See one of my responses above; I was honest, and thorough in my appeal, and perhaps my particular circumstance was reasonable. The content of my appeal, verbatim, was:

---
Recently, YouTube allowed me to place TrueView
in-stream ads on my videos. These ads are more high-performing than the
previous overlay ads that I had on my videos. The TrueView ads also
register as a "click" when the ad is watched (as opposed to clicked only).

While I noticed my adsense clicks increase, it was due to these new
TrueView ads that I enabled on my videos, and the numbers still align
reasonably with the traffic I get.

I have not clicked my own ads to generate invalid activity. With the new
TrueView in-stream ads, ads play at the start of my youtube videos, and I

do load my videos frequently to read the comments and monitor the
ratings--this effectively plays the ad. Is this where the activity is
coming from? Because I am NOT clicking on them.

Re: Adsense reinstated after successful appeal; will monetization tabs be re-enabled? greenflams 1/5/12 9:26 PM
I believe that appeals won't work for people who actually attempted to cheat and then lie during the appeal - AdSense would check the appeal and compare it with their automated analyzer and if the invalid activity did not actually come from the claimed source then the appeal is permanently lost.

Good job in your loyalty and honesty!

Absolutely Greenflams.    I'm happy he was able to win the appeal.     This may be the first case I have heard where someone did win.

I was kinda shocked too :O
Hopefully the hardhearted folks on AdSense were / are on permanent vacation or such.
Re: Adsense reinstated after successful appeal; will monetization tabs be re-enabled? ugleeee 1/5/12 10:01 PM
It has to be a situation where Adsense realizes that the introduction of trueview ads to monetized accounts is new and that people won't realize that they are inadvertantly costing advertisers money simply by watching their own preroll-enabled videos (e.g. leaving the video running while answering comments).  I don't recall any documentation being sent out with the rollout of trueviews for monetized accounts telling people to make sure they don't watch their own ads.  It's clearly not as common knowledge as we might think, especially since prior to trueview ads people generally associated invalid activity with clicks, not views/impressions as much, so people definitely don't realize that viewing their videos is akin to invalid activity.
Re: Adsense reinstated after successful appeal; will monetization tabs be re-enabled? Taofledermaus 1/5/12 10:24 PM
Honestly I was not familiar with watching the Trueview ads on my own videos creating a problem.   Typically when I reply to comments  I WILL go to "comments"  rather than the video,   but I have watched many of my own Trueviews I am sure still.   Since they revamped Youtube,   posting on the  "comments"  page is really clunky and slow.   It's like the computer is put under a tremendous system-load or is using many megabytes of bandwidth.    You click on "reply"  and 10 seconds later the message box shows up.  Absolutely horrible.

I don't recall ever getting instructions on ANYTHING  Adsense/Trueview- related so I am equally in the dark.

Hi Sigmasquared,

I have a similar situation. But I believe my Adsense account is now fully functional and ready to roll. However, my monetization tab in Youtube isn't there and has not yet been restored. Who, specifically, did you contact to get the monetization tab brought back?

Like you, all of the checks seem to indicate that I am in the clear. You said a "Partner Support" request -- I have been hunting around and keep seem to find the right spot.

Any help would be appreciated. I posed a video of my daughter having a tantrum which was featured today on MSN. My wife and I are downbeat now that we're having monetization issues.

Thanks,
Erik

My account was disabled Monday and reinstated Thursday and appeal was in my favor as well.  Mine was because of name policy.  From what I have read, It takes 48 hours for Adsense to start working and another 48 hours for YouTube Monitization to work again.  So, thats 4 days, give or take a day.

Hopefully, this will not effect my paycheck from Google this month.

You have to wait for Adsense to work again.  Then it takes 2 more days for Youtube servers update.  I have lost $100's of dollars because of the name policy.  NOt to mention on the stress.  Looks like all is well, just have to wait it out for a few more days.
