Updates to the Homepage Feed ytRebeccaJ 8/3/12 11:29 AM
Hi everyone,

You may notice some updates to the Subscription Feed today.  We’re adding (and adding back!) some features to help you manage the content in your feed and to help you find what you’re looking for more easily.

Feed Options
We have added a menu with more options to control the content in your feed.  Hovering over the arrow will show you the options available - hiding activity, show only uploads from that user you
see in your feed or unsubscribing from that user.

.

Watched Banner
After watching a video, you’ll see a WATCHED banner overlaid on the thumbnail, and the thumbnail grayed out to make it clear you’ve seen the video before and can hide it if you want.

Thumbnails
As you can see from the Thumbnails are also getting more focus with the new feed, being bigger and more prominent than before.

We know some of these were requested changes here on the forum, so we’re glad to be able to make them happen for you now. We hope you like them, let us know what you think!

You can filter on the social activity (like the G+ stuff) by clicking "Show uploads only" at the top. You can also use the hide buttons to set it so that you only show uploads from any particular channel, so there are options if you want to not see some of that stuff. Thanks for the feedback, though.

Is there any way to change the uploaded video's smaller again? Like serious, there up in my face as if to say "You're blind so we made them gigantic, love youtube".

Was there any need?

I mean, I Un-tick the box to "show uploads only" and I scroll down and I still see the old small thumbnails..

Re: Updates to the Homepage Feed KINGOFTOWN 8/4/12 10:56 AM
The "X" button is already gone.
Re: Updates to the Homepage Feed KINGOFTOWN 8/4/12 10:59 AM
The people that use youtube have been fighting for the "X" button since the new layout was unveiled. We had it for like two days, and now it is gone again. The only way to hide a video is to unclick the uploads only feature, and then hide them. That is not user friendly.

>>That is not user friendly.

Are we surprised? It certainly follows YouTube "logic," doesn't it. The terms "user friendly" and "intuitive" are not in their limited vocabulary.

You should check your feedback box once in a while youtube workers, nobody likes what youre doing with youtube. and stop removing comments.. honest opinios should be heard.. so now youtube disabled the choices between showing everything and highlights and now shows similiar results on both pages, anyone figured how to disable this crappy innovative design? and its just too bad theres nothing we can't do but to go with it.

This is great! I've been waiting for a "Watched" banner.  I also like how the feed is a lot longer.  It would be easier for the videos to just disappear from the feed like they did before, but I'll take it, haha.  Maybe now I can start viewing more videos from users that don't post as often as others I'm subscribed to.

Re: Updates to the Homepage Feed KINGOFTOWN 8/5/12 8:26 PM
The feature to "Only show uploads from xxxxxxxx" is not working. I've tried over and over to get it to work, and it does not work.
I don't understand why the "X" button was removed. It was there for a couple days and then it was gone.
Re: Updates to the Homepage Feed robertyt 8/5/12 11:44 PM
@ytRebeccaJ
This is pathetic...
This does NOT help all of us partners out at all. Ive lost 75% of my views because of how bad the homepage is. Make it a grid with a list of all your subscription.
because its so insignificant, subscribers miss many videos. As a partner with 143,000 I'm experiencing an average of 10,000 views...
this makes no sense. I get many comments stating from my subscribers that they do not receive my videos in their subscription feed.
Can you help me out? will you ever change/fix this?
Re: Updates to the Homepage Feed Energyone 8/7/12 3:27 PM
I want to turn off 'recommended' videos in my feed.  Not only is it highly annoying, but I get my own videos recommended back to me!

I would also like a constant 'Uploads Only' button that applies to all subscriptions instead of having to do it to every single channel - you know, like it used to be.

Re: Updates to the Homepage Feed deejaybee 8/8/12 2:10 AM
The old layout before was much better. The new one fills the home page with so much unneeded information that makes it easy to miss videos. Have a subscription tab, a reccomended tab and a "Community" tab or similar for the people that want to know whos commenting on what. Lumping them all into one place, with no options to filter them is horrible.
Re: Updates to the Homepage Feed deejaybee 8/8/12 2:10 AM
There is no button to select "Show Uploads Only" that is the problem
Re: Updates to the Homepage Feed Energyone 8/8/12 6:44 PM
Cool, somehow I am back to the earlier homepage again, which I like far better - it gives me more control.

Yeah, you guys think about the small changes others want. But you never think about the ones who DON'T like the changes. C'mon, for the thousandth time, give us an option to switch back to the early 2010 layout, please. (Yes, that includes channels because it was much more easier to navigate rather than having separate links just to see our own videos, which also adds another page to our browser history, which also takes up more memory!)

I know the memory thing doesn't really sound like a big deal since most people have newer PCs with bigger HDDs, but I know some people who are still using old Windows 98 PCs. They can't afford to buy a new one. It really bothers me because you guys decided to force us all into a glutton of a page that costs more bandwidth that isn't healthy for those slow connections and old PC users I just mentioned! If Gmail has an HTML option, why not do the same with YouTube?

I'm going to ask the same thing thousands of us, users are asking for: An option to switch to the old channels and homepage.

The new design clearly, isn't ready. There are still several bugs that need to be fixed, and functions that still need to be worked on. Think about it. Was there really ANY problem with the old one? If it's not broken, don't fix it. Take your time and let your users keep the variety of customization. That's what we want. Not dull, grey, lifeless profiles that don't please anyone. I hope you read this twice and understand... if you ever read it.

Regards, ~iYB

its cool
Re: Updates to the Homepage Feed CrustyKestrel 8/9/12 5:56 AM
Another rubbish update. I just want to see uploads only and you can get lost if you think I'm going through all my subscriptions individually and doing it that way.

YAY! "Hide this activity" works like the old X-button did. Keep this up and I may forgive you all the wrongdoings you've done since december :D

thats what they want you to do!
they give us a 9th-grade-intro-to-computer-programming designed channel page (& home page), that still has bugs cropping up every week, then they fix something here or there, or give us back a button or two that they forgot to include in the new design, then they hope we love them and thank them for 'listening' to us!
personally, i will not forgive youtube as long as we still have this new design channel page. there are just too many things wrong with it - the entire format is wrong. it can't be 'fixed', it needs a total revamping (or reverting back to the previous). and i hope i'm not the only one.

Hence the usage of the word "MAY" ;)
