|DID SOMEONE HACK INTO MY YOUTUBE ACCOUNT?||suesue||9/16/09 4:25 PM|
I received a notice that my password had been changed but I DID NOT CHANGE IT. Then I read your help which says that when this happens it might be a mistake and to try to log in again. I did. I cannot log in. I went to the reset password and gave them my name and log in password and it says they will send me an email telling me how to reset my password. They did. When I click on the url you send me which is SUPPOSE TO TELL ME HOW TO RESET MY PASSWORD it takes me back to the same page I started with which asks you to submit your email and name so that you can send an email "TELLING ME HOW TO RESET MY PASSWORD". I have gone through this process SIX TIMES already and still it does not let me reset my password. I have read that you need to clean up your cache and cookies so I did this, then I when through your process requesting an email telling me how to reset my password -- AGAIN same thing.
How can I reset my password. Actually, I don't really want to reset my password, I just want to be able to open my youtube account with the user name and password I HAVE ALWAYS HAD.

I know you've been there, but in case you haven't, here's their relevant link.
However, if you have lost control over the password AND the e-mail address associated with that account then YouTube will not be able to grant you access to that account.

JDoors, thank you. Yes I went back and tried again, youtube send me the SAME email and link to click to change my password, then I went back in and put in my email address so they could send me the user names associated with the email and I did the entire circle again with no results. I can't open up my youtube account at all.
So if I lost control which it apparently seems I have what are my options? I thought of just deleting my youtube account but I can't even do that without getting into my account. I have not lost the e-mail address, I know what it is -- do you mean by lost that someone may have confiscated it and is using it. How can I tell. Apparently something has gone really wrong, I have 3 different email addresses and 3 different youtube accounts for each of them and I cannot get into ANY of them. I know what the user names are, I know what the passwords are and I know what the email addresses associated with each is but none of them will open. I would appreciate any other recommendations you can give me. Can I write to youtube since it appears you cannot actually talk to anyone there.

YouTube does not provide e-mail or phone user technical support.
I'm confused (I always am). You successfully requested and recieved a password reset e-mail, but the link in the mail leads BACK to the password reset page. And this happens EVERY time you've tried it.
I bet Google/YouTube is looking at your cookies and sees whatever username it happens to look at first and, when you request your password, it sees that you CAN log in, even if it's not the account you want, so it sends you back to that page. I tested some of their help pages and because I am logged in I get different results than someone who was not logged in would see. They're "peeking" at your account info -- And they're confusing that info between the many accounts you have. That's my best guess anyway.
I know you said you deleted the Google and YouTube cookies, but apparently something was left behind as they keep "seeing" that you have an account (that may not match the info you gave them for this request) and that's botching up the password reset link.

I am still going back and forth trying to get into my youtube account. I keep sending the "reset" my password message and they keep sending me "how to reset your password message email" which takes me back to where I started. I think you may have hit on a point yes my google account "used" to be able to open my youtube account. It would open automatically with the code already in the system so I would go back in and retype my "official" youtube name and password to get into my youtube account. Since I can't even open my youtube account through Google how do I delete the "cookies" in Google -- where do I go to delete them? Actually something happened because when I typed in youtube.com it would automatically open showing my Google account information for me to click and open my youtube account. Now I can't even find my Google account! I am not really a computer person but if you give me some basic directions I can go back and try to see if I do in fact have "cookies" on my Google account. I am on a Mac G5 10.4.11.

Oooo, I am completely mac-illiterate. :(
If you know your Google username and password you can unlink your accounts at the link below (they "warn" you that you won't be able to sign into YouTube with your Google account any more -- like THAT's been a problem, right?).
I haven't a clue how to handle cookies on a mac -- Anyone else?
I often manually delete them on my PC by opening a file viewer (Windows Explorer for the PC), going to the location where temporary Internet files are stored, sorting by file type (since cookies are .txt files I want that type of file gathered together), then looking for the cookies I want to keep or delete (google.txt, youtube.txt in this case, though that's a short version of what the file will actually be named).

rushikeshw, you should first ensure that the e-mail address you are using IS on file for your account, use the Forgot USERNAME form (NOT forgot password, forgot username), then ensure you CAN receive e-mail from YouTube at that address by following the tips in the I never received my paswsword reset e-mail form.

To delete cookies on a Mac using safari – click the drop down menu under safari, click preferences, click the security tab, click show cookies, select the cookies, click remove (or for a clean slate click remove all).
