|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||codyo||5/28/09 1:29 PM|
It is no longer possible to unlink your YouTube and Google Accounts.
You can, however, delete your YouTube account which will unlink your YouTube and Google Account, but you will not be able to register with the same YouTube username and all your YouTube information will be deleted.
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||mjcloud||6/5/09 9:48 AM|
thanks codyo, that's stinks. google should let you know that when they casually ask the question with no 'are you sure' promt.
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||DrewKF||6/10/09 2:38 PM|
This is bullshit - how much of a fuss do we need to kick up before they restore the apparent "unlink" option I've read about? (assuming it once existed?)
I'm pretty sure most of the inconvenience caused is because people want to be signed into different Google/YouTube accounts than it forces them to be - so it wouldn't harm the Google establishment to let people have the option!
Unlink us all, already!
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||mygoochdotcom||7/21/09 8:44 PM|
this is grade a BULLSHIT. I created a new account for me and my friends to share. I was not asked if I wanted it linked but I just happened to be signed into Gmail at the time. Now I find out it is LINKED forever and I can't give my friends access to our joint youtube page without compromising my e-mail????
are you kidding me????? this is a real slap in the face.
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||mygoochdotcom||7/21/09 8:51 PM|
I looked into it more... apparently the only way to resolve this is to delete my account, after which I can't re-sign up for the name. WHAT THE FUCK???? this makes me extremely mad at google. the whole reason I liked google when they first came onto the scene with gmail was they didn't play the same stupid proprietary games as the other companies. now that they are getting bigger they're pulling the same shit. fuck them.

I really wish Google would just give YouTube back to it's rightful owners. When Google took over, I didn't really mind that much. But as time has passed Google has slowly been turning YouTube - Broadcast Yourself into SuckTube - Lick somebody's B@(($. I still like it. But I'd enjoy it much more if the following would happen:
That Google would give YouTube back to it's original owners.
That the original owners would make YouTube back to the way it was when they used to own it (without removing the features that were actually good, such as annotations, HD, HQ, etc.)
And that YouTube would keep the BETA channel as well, but also keep it optional.
But sadly, that will never happen.

|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||jlawshe||10/26/09 12:31 PM|
I agree with the frustration on this thread. I created a channel called "punktilio" that I never used. Recently a new company started using that name. As a courtesy, I wanted to transfer the channel to their ownership (since they also bought the punktilio.com domain from me). But I can't effect the transfer without also giving them access to my personal Gmail account.
That seems very odd to me. The whole concept of a channel in the real world is that it's an entity that exists seperately from its owners and can change to different owners. Like a business. Or a brand.
So I deleted my old YouTube account, re-signed up with my gmail username to match my personal brand. And now the empty 'punktilio' channel is floating out there dead and no one will ever be able to use it.
This doesn't make any sense at all.
IF google wants to permanently link channels and user names (which is weird, but ok, whatever), then there should NOT be an option to specify a different channel name on YouTube than the one you're using for Google. Then at least way back when I was creating the 'Punktilio' channel I would have known that I should be signing in with a Punktilio gmail too. I would have left my personal gmail account out of the equation altogether.
The current state of things makes no sense whatsoever.

If your account is still allowed to be unlinked, just go here: http://www.youtube.com/account#manage/unlink and use the link there.
If there is no "Unlink YouTube and Google Accounts" option, they cannot be unlinked.
Closing an account does not "release" the e-mail address to be used on another account. The address is a permanent part of the data for that account, regardless of the account's status.
You can "reopen" a closed account, see reference below.

I'm really frustrated with Google right now. I'm coming to the opinion that I should go back and use my yahoo accounts to sign up for all google related services. I set my account up on 11/28 and I've tried everything on this page to unlink my account from my Personal GMAIL account.
I want to start a channel so I can "brand" myself and create an image online. I really think Google should tell you you that your services will FOREVER be linked to your gmail account and that people will be able to find you through your email account. This is what I want....but it would have been nice to know so I would have set it up with my "NON WORK RELATED" email.
Now YouTube tells me that my accounts are "Perminately Linked"....love that. I'm a big google fan. Have the phone, the apps, the browser...but when you remove my control to change how my accounts are linked and AUTOMATICALLY MAKE MY CHANNEL AVAILABLE TO ALL MY FAMILY, FRIENDS AND CO-WORKERS without giving me warning, I get peeved.

@ Alpha_1 Level 1 12/4/09
I just did what you suggested and I got the following message on youtube: "Your account is linked permanently to a Google Account"
@ all commenters / readers & the staff members from google/youtube,
What a relief that I am not the only person who is severely pissed off with google for not offering the option to disconnect your youtube channel/profile from your google account, and that I am not just some ignorant digital analphabetic who cannot find this option; it simply does NOT exist. I have looked and looked, but after extensive searching and tinkering with all options I could find I have concluded that it cannot be undone!!!
So please, dear staff members from google / youtube when/if you read this, do something with all these remarks and create this option so people can decide for themselves whether or not they want to integrate the youtube channel bearing an identical name into their google account!!! I find that it is very user unfriendly as it is now! If this stays the way it is now, I think I have no other option but to stop using gmail completely! I just want to be able to swap between various youtube channels without the hustle of having to sign in and out of different google accounts or getting signed in when I don't want to get signed in to a google account period! etc. etc.
The annoying thing is that by default (if I am not mistaken) terminating your google account also terminates your youtube channel, please fix it! I would appreciate it very much.
If anyone has any suggestions in case I overlooked something, you are more then welcome to post them on this thread!
(in that case much obliged)

"The annoying thing is that by default (if I am not mistaken) terminating your google account also terminates your youtube channel, please fix it! I would appreciate it very much."
Since Google expects you to use your Google account to access your Google-product accounts, if you close your Google account there is no lonager any way to access your products. Even if they didn't delete them, you wouldn't have access anyway. From the Google Delete Account form:
Close account and delete all services and info associated with it
Considering the ramifications of closing a Google account they should be a little more descriptive than just, "all services."

Google staff are you reading this, come on, let us disconnect our YouTube accounts from our Google accounts. Why can't we change our primary email address on our YouTube accounts. WTF
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||anmoose||12/24/09 8:10 PM|
Google staff clearly doesn't give a flying rat's ass. They haven't so much as lifted a finger to help out or even ACKNOWLEDGE this fiasco since the day they started it.
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||pinstripedtie||1/7/10 1:20 PM|
Google SUX anyway!! When are people gonna learn this??? They are in bed with big brother and desperately want control over the masses!! Don't believe me?? One day you will wake up and it will all be GAME OVER! YOU LOSE and there won't be a thing you can do about it. Watch and see.
We all must take back the control and NEVER stop governing it ourselves!! We need to do it NOW!!!!
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||Christian Saris||1/8/10 3:15 AM|
It didn't even ask me.
I don't want my gmail account linked to my youtube account either.
I've set up different passwords for a reason.
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||JDoors||1/8/10 9:05 AM|
Christian, it seems they provided a "warning" that accounts must be linked, then went on to do it automatically regardless of user's wants or needs. Very bizarre business practice if you ask me.

Geez, how do I unlink my Google account from my YouTube account? I can't find it.
I prefer to link it to a different Google-account, but it seems impossible to accomplish.

|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||pierreronnefalk||2/8/10 8:16 AM|
The thing that you CAN'T change the username for Youtube OR NOT delete it and create a make me so dissapointed as it fuck up my work to build an integrated platform fro mail, blog, video, docks etc.
If this had been on my work with the system i handled i have been screwed totaly.
* I have videos i vitt publice
* I will public in under the correct namne
* I dont want to create a need google account
* I want to have the same name everywhere
* I wan't same passwords linked together
And i'm screwed because i created a Youtube account with the wrong name one year ago .... it´s a joke.
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||JDoors||2/8/10 11:17 AM|
a) I don't understand what "ivitt publice" means.
b) Don't understand.
c) YouTube is a Google-product, there is no option to create a YouTube account without a Google account.
d) "I want" isn't always compatible with "I can."
e) You can change passwords on various accounts so I'm not sure what you mean there.
The ONLY problem this appears to cause for you is what you "want to do" as opposed to "what is allowed."
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||ShadowTigerPK||2/8/10 12:14 PM|
Wow, JDoors, what a great answer. Not. Obviously there is a need across a large set of people using YouTube - for a number of different, valid reasons - for the ability to change userids or at least force them to be the same as their gmail userid. What I see in pierreronnefalk is the same frustration that thousands of people are feeling in having Google completely ignore them. A attack on him/her hardly helps anything. Unless you have information on how to do what people are asking, or why Google is doing what they are doing, or some other useful insight, SHUT UP.
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||pierreronnefalk||2/12/10 6:11 AM|
Okay, i write it more simple so you understand.
I have an google mail account with my name, and also use the same name in my blogg.
Then i created a youtube i was using another name because we was supposed to publice video for a racingteam, but when i changed from my first blog to use google blogspot i want to change my youtbue name to the same as used in my mail and my blog and picassa.
I cant´t se the problem to change a channel/account name for youtube on the same way thats possible in you blog settings ... its only connections in a database.
The anwsers "want to do" as opposed to "what is allowed." is not a language to use when talking to customers, it schould more be .. "okay i se the problem, and i will notice it and check if it possible to do something".
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||anmoose||2/12/10 8:20 AM|
@pierreronnefalk, YouTube does offer a full money back guarantee policy for dissatisfied "customers." Where should they send your refund?
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||JDoors||2/12/10 8:27 AM|
Sorry you took my response as an insult, wasn't meant to be. ; )
This is a public user forum where YouTube users (or anyone, for that matter) try to help other users wherever possible. I have my own unique style, sorry, again, that you feel it's inappropriate.
I "want" a free car, but that's just not an available option. If I want a car, there are only certain available options to obtain one.
You "want" a different username, but the only available option is a new account (using a new e-mail address and/or Google account).
It's not "just" a matter of changing a few bits in a database. Your account is potentially linked to a ton of other data; friends, favorites, subscriptions, view data, analytics, searches, private messages, etc. Changing the name would either "break" every link ever made on that account, or would require all those links to also be changed (technically possible, but would require an enormous amount of new programming).
One example of why it's not a good idea to allow name changes: What if I love barns and subscribed to a channel "BigRedBarns," but that user decided to go in another direction and changed the name to "BigSoftBoobies?" Does my subscription get changed, against my wishes? Do all the barn videos I favorited get deleted, changed ... what? What happens to any communications I may have had with the barn channel? Do my PMs disappear, or get changed to the boobie channel?
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||Blittle McNilsen||2/12/10 2:34 PM|
I don't have to deal with this problem because I made my account back in April of '08, long before this occurred, so it's not connected to a Google account. :D

Just reset your google account password to your youtube password.

Guys, Guys, Guys!
Haven't you figured it out yet! Google is one big Game. You have to guess what they are thinking. Get with the programme, Get Psychic or Get Out!
Google know we all have nothing better to do than play their guessing games all day long. Its fun right?
Same problem here actually! Google decided to auto link my new YT account to my GMail account that i just happened to be logged into at that moment. Sucks Huh!
You really have to question the sanity of Googles Usability Team. TBH most sites' usability sucks. It just is what it is, websites built by complete "too intelligent for their own good" fruit loops with no sense of 'common sense'. And the world is being take over by these mumpties. The future looks very dull!
The post above made me laugh about us 'taking back control and doing it NOW!'... Hey If i knew how i would?
Keep taking the Valium guys!
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||epetersPF||4/27/10 2:44 PM|
I accidentally clicked on one little button and now my company's YouTube account and my Google account are linked for eternity. My team will have to login as me anytime they want to post videos - even if I leave the company. At least, I used my work Google account instead of my personal. That would have been a disaster.
I don't think there is a remedy here - but if there's some kind of loophole for corporate YouTube accounts, I need to know it asap.
|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||JDoors||4/27/10 3:11 PM|
No loopholes, except for the one you stumbled upon: Collaborative accounts (such as for a business) must use credentials that will always remain under company control.

|Re: How do I disconnect my youtube channel from my google account?||AizonaGal||7/7/10 1:28 PM|
javierr510 - you obviously didn't read the entire thread. Most of us don't have that handy little button/option to unlink our accounts. They are permanently affixed to one another.
Google - why are you dogging us like this? Very 'AOL' of you. Seriously - you are forcing me to look at other alternatives. I don't even remember linking these accounts. I have two accounts in google, two in youtube. One is work, one is personal. I happened to be signed in with a personal google account when I created a business youtube account and now my stuff is co-mingled forever?!? That really sucks, and so does Google if you don't fix it.

Look I just got my damn Gmail, I don't want to not be able to use my regular pass world to open my damn account I had before I added this stupid shit to my email. I mean damn what a way to set a fraking trap by some damn blind as a bat cyclon. why the hell can I get back on the way I USE TOO. Disconnect me from google or Gmail or I'm going to just have to delete my Gmail and hope that it sets me free from this bullshit catch 22 here that I've gotten my damn self into! Where the fuck is the fine print that would of saved me from making that damn connection like the idiot that I am. thanks a bloody lot people!
