Maybe you are behind a proxy, router, protected pc, etc. that blocks youtube so you aren't able to watch the page. Maybe it's your internet provider and/or the country you live. Some countries (like China) block youtube.

Hi Anze1811 - I've got the same problem - I cant go to any google.com sites (tho managed to get to this one after one blockage). Google Scholar, maps & books are okay but not anything with the http address starting with www.google.com. Message is same as yours "404 Not Found" with nginx in smaller font underneath. I have my virus & malware programs running but they're not picking anything up. I did have a problem where my google search hyperlinks were being re-routed to junk sites, but that's gone & now I cant get to google sites. I'm not behind any proxy router etc (thanks tho lazypooky). Help appreciated
cheers

By taking a quick look with Google search for the words nginx youtube learns that more people have the same problem, not figured out what is causing it, but because in some cases with two or more pc's only one pc is affected with that issue I assume that it has something to do with interfering software/malware/spyware (whatever you call it).

Re: How do I solve the "404 not found nginx" error? I cannot even enter the site ... jelka79 8/18/11 2:42 PM
I had the exact same problem - the 404 error came last, but before that, google was redirecting me to various websites, gmail notifier or Google talk weren't working and in the last few days I was down to not being able to access almost any search sites.
Many forums led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with the hosts file, but I was unable to solve the problem myself (whatever I edited or deleted just came back).
Today, I ran the ESET online scan, it took a couple of hours but it found the "Qhost trojan" and after deleting that and restarting I could finally access google, gmail and google talk.

Re: How do I solve the "404 not found nginx" error? I cannot even enter the site ... JIC2 8/18/11 4:05 PM
I had this issue today at work. A client could not access any google page. I resolved the issue by checking the hosts file located under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

Apparently some malware changed the hosts file to block all google pages.

To resolve: Open command prompt, type: cd c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
Hit Enter
Now Type: edits hosts

If you see any google.com address assigned with an ip (69.168.222.268), or any other IP, erase it and save the edited file.

Hope this helps.

I tried the above but did not resolve. In our case there were 100 blank lines in the Hosts file and then the Malicious entries followed. Odd that Ant-Malware software did not detect. Details at http://blog.lan-tech.ca/2011/08/21/google-malware-redirect/

Used http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/combofix.  It detected sickboy.exe.  This was not caught previously with F-secure, Norton or McAfee.  Unsure why this could be since each had a definition for it.  XP computer now not getting same 404 message.  Thanks.

DO NOT USE COMBO FIX... I USED IT AND HAD TO DO A SYSTEM RESTORE TO GET MY PC WORKING CORRECTLY COMBO FIX IS FOR PROFESSIONALS ONLY AND IF YOU HAVE NOT FIXED YOUR 404 ERROR YOU ARE NOT A PRO.... I AM
FOLLOW THESE STEPS AND IT WILL FIX YOUR nginx 404 not found error and it is free and involves NO down loads...

PROBLEM:host file has been hijacked

Step 1:

http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9668866

Run this fixit to reset hosts

but most of the time this is not going to fix IT

Step 2:

GO Here

C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

Hosts files will be hidden normally.

Click on tools -folders options-click on the view tab-scroll down
now select show hidden files and uncheck ''hide protected operating system files''

this should make your hosts file visible

Right click on your hosts file -properties-uncheck the read only option

Now try to open hosts file and remove unwanted entries.

You can have look here, how a clean hosts file should be for specific OS

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034

YOU cant UNCHECK THE read only option most of the times, you may receive ACCESS DENIED error

open command prompt as administrator and run these two commands

cd C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

cacls hosts /p Everyone:F

press y after this command, now you can uncheck the read only option, edit hosts file and remove unwanted entries.

I had the same issue and used traditional anti-virus software that didn't remove the virus. I fixed it with Norton Power Eraser which identified the "Host" file that was corrupted and repaired it. It’s a free download from the Norton website. I tried a lot of suggestions on the blogs to no avail. Norton Power Eraser did it.

@ elkiller.103, If you know anything at all about combofix then surely you know how extremely irresponsible it is of you to recommend that any ordinary computer user should use this tool unsupervised. I wonder how many people have turned their pc into a doorstop because of your advice.

go to C:/windows/system32/drivers/etc and see if ur host hosts file is there
if u cant see ur hosts file
u try use CMD to open it or delete it and u cant
because its hidden and protected by a virus
the virus might not be in ur computer no more but the damage is still there

Suggestion
Download Ubuntu from www.ubuntu.com/ this is another OS
Burn the iso to a CD
restart ur computer and boot off CD
it will ask u to install or test
do not install click on test to make it run off the disk
ubuntu will start up
now go into ur C drive C:windows/system32/drivers/etc
find the host file and delete it and replace it with a new hosts file from another computer
or u can erase everything below (
#    ::1             localhost ) and save a copy of it on desk top and delete the original and put the copy file back in it place this will make sure there nothing protecting it
u can look at it and see what the virus has written in the file there should be no spaces/ other stuff written below
#    ::1             localhost

if there is this is ur cause of ur problem for 404 not found error

host file should read like this with nothing else

# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
#    127.0.0.1       localhost
#    ::1             localhost

now after u done this restart ur computer
take out the disk
windows should start
check to see if u can now surf the net again without getting the 404 not found error
use google and such click on links
if this fix ur problem i am glad it help

I have created a program that will fix this for all windows OS's XP-7. This error is commonly a virus. This will not "FIX" the virus it only removes the redirect. Please scan your system.  http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154650

Google 404 Error NGINX FIX - This Fix works!! Lynx41 8/31/12 9:52 PM
I have just spent about 3 hours on this malware issue that misdirected my browser when attempting to go to my home page at Google.com, thus giving me a 404 error message and below that nginx. Somehow, the malware bypassed my anti-virus software, which is supposed to block out this rootkit redirection malware? Anyway, most of the answers that I got from various forums were good ideas, but didn't work. I must have tried about 10 different tech support solutions and all of them failed, until I tried this one. For those of you who have no tech support background or little understanding of how all this works, I will give you a brief, but clear explanation here, so you can proceed with some confidence.

First of all, Google did not kick you out from it's search engine, so relax! You got this error message as a result of a type of malicious software called, Malware. Malware comes in many forms, but this nasty one is particularly hard to detect with anti malware because it manipulates your DNS root kit and redirects it. My Avira anti-virus, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and several other fixes did not correct these problems alone. Finally, I found that this following combination of fixes did work and here it is:

1- Run a disk clean up and empty all temporary internet files out from your browsers.

2- Update and run your anti-Virus to eliminate every virus, esp the trojans. Don't quarantine anything! Just delete what it finds.

Reboot

3- Update and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Run all fixes

Reboot

4- GET Kaspersky-TDSSKiller Rootkit Malware Remover, run it, and fix what it finds:

http://download.cnet.com/Kaspersky-TDSSKiller/3000-2239_4-75722087.html

Don't Reboot until you do this:

5-Copy and paste these lines in Notepad:

@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save Notepad file as flush.bat to your desktop (Change type of file to all files & leave encoding to ANSI). Close out Notepad and then double click on flush.bat. This will reset most of your critical host files back to default values and flushes out any redirects still residing in your data caches. As soon as batch file completes its process, your computer will restart automatically.

If you have no idea what step 4 is all about, get with a friend who understands operating Systems and some programming. Hopefully, they can guide you a bit here. For those of you who do understand this lingo, just proceed on.

When you get back to your desktop, open up your browsers and you should get on Google.com with no more errors. Once your computer reboots, it will ask you to run some strange file. This is the TDSSKiller Program asking for you to run it again. I just cancelled it because it took care of business the first time around. You should be good to go!

God Bless You all

The Lynx

Re: Google 404 Error NGINX FIX - This Fix works!! Craig N 1/4/13 12:02 PM
I'm only getting burned when I put into the Address window something that looks like a valid address.

If I search for Frajipagix it do not get the problem and google starts trying to look it up.

However, if I search for frajipagix.com, I get the http://vrzb.search-help.net yahoo/ask.com slezoid search results.

So then, yes, the yahoo/ask.com slezoid page has an obscurred opt-out button but it just redirects to a weired looking 404 not found page (ignx).

I went to my ethernet adapter tcp/ip properties page, hit the advanced button and de-selected "append parent suffix of the primary DNS suffix" and I went back to the behavior I wanted -- which was to get google to recognize dns is not found and to offer alternatives.

I'm still worried one of you is right and I have a virus but as of now I don't think so.

Re: Google 404 Error NGINX FIX - This Fix works!! Craig N 1/4/13 12:42 PM
Forgive me.  While I thought that solved my problem I then later got 404 NGINX messages again.

I scanned  using avast and defender and found nothing.

I did find and remove the ask.com toolbar and some other ask.com slezoid app.

Then, I cleared out my browser cache in chrome and now I seem to be clear of the problem again.

Re: Google 404 Error NGINX FIX - This Fix works!! Fernando Fazzane 5/3/13 4:17 PM
For anyone who is experiencing the 404 Not Found Error nginx:

This is an adware that probably was clicked and a script has modified some hosts on your ROUTER. It's not on your computer, it's in your router / switcher, because of this the antivirus can't solve.

To finish with this problem, RESET your router from the base and redo your configuration.

This can happen either with Mac and PC.

Most important: DON'T CLICK ON SUSPECT ADVERTISING AND TELL YOUR FAMILY / FRIENDS TO DON'T DO IT EITHER!

I use Mac and I don't know who in my family did it, but I've fixed today.

Hope it helps.

My fix was to open a new tab, highlight inside the search box then save as or copy it to a folder then open the folder , right click on the google emblem then select to send short cut to desktop. delete old google on desktop. use new desktop shortcut.

after you find anything at the bottom spaced down from any ip address.
please copy to backup from any internet damages.after you check it for success
if still not working ask for bill payer of your internet and contact the company that supply you with wifi.If you cannot find hosts file then you have been hacked
