|I suddenly am unable to download videos to my Real Player SP. I have Adobe Flash Player and Real Time Player as well.||celticrosetense||1/6/10 6:59 AM|
I have just today not been able to download clips from YouTube into my Real Player. I have had and still have Real Player, and Flash Adobe Player as well. Please advise.

You are hereby advised that doesn't work anymore.
|Re: I suddenly am unable to download videos to my Real Player SP. I have Adobe Flash Player and Real Time Player as well.||Videodave2||1/6/10 7:38 AM|
YouTube has apparently found a way to frustrate the ability of Real Player to accomplish illegal downloads. I'm sure that RealPlayer will come up with a new and improved way to do it and just as sure that YouTube will then come up with a counter measure.
|Re: I suddenly am unable to download videos to my Real Player SP. I have Adobe Flash Player and Real Time Player as well.||endof2008||1/28/10 3:21 PM|
It seems like YouTube is operated from China...
|bvartis||2/13/10 7:41 AM|
Yes I agree that Youtube has frustrated the ability of Realplayer SP from allowing downloads of videos. I want to know when will this problem be resolved?
|Videodave2||2/13/10 8:00 AM|
When Realplayer comes out with a new and improved version, at which time YouTube will work on ruining you fun again.
|BIGSOULMAN1||3/11/10 12:12 PM|
If Youtube is a free service and none of the videos downloaded are paid for by you why are you blocking Real Player?, not all people are thieves! I simply hate those blasted pop up ads by Google when watching something so what right have you to spoil people's viewing pleasure?, I personally think you have have hit a major booboo here and may live to regret it!
|Videodave2||3/11/10 12:23 PM|
>why are you blocking Real Player?By blocking download, it gives YouTube credibility as a site that does not sanction copyright violations, which allows them to stay in business.
|stuartindigo||3/11/10 12:26 PM|
Those ads pay for this "free service". It is against the terms of service to download - read steal - videos
|MaxiumGrimm||3/12/10 9:15 AM|
Try Opening it in the RealPlayer itself by pasteing the URL into the Search bar. It worked for me that way. more than one way to do something ! And Most the Video that I download aren't ILLEGAL. They are Video Mixes that You can't BUY ! Thank YOU BIGSOUL !
|anmoose||3/12/10 9:43 AM|
>>And Most the Video that I download aren't ILLEGAL.Meaning that some of them ARE illegal?
So because you can't buy them, that makes it okay to steal them? The owner of the video might disagree with you on that...
|vic2rtot||3/13/10 11:32 AM|
Youtube Block Realplayer downloader at this time because of some copyright issues!
Dont worry Guyz i found an alternative solution about this matter,
The problem is online in the youtube website and we can still download the videos using other site..
How? at first go to youtube, search for your favorite videos then copy the URL and paste to wall in facebook then share, right after the page reload click the video to play inside the facebook website then same thing "download this video" will appear!
and there you go!
Any questions and suggestions

It is not permitted to download videos from YouTube. That is why the software which seeks to do this against YouTube's ToS and the international copyright law which protects video owners from theft keeps being "broken" by YouTube.
If you do not see a legitimate "download" button on YouTube (you can pay for some videos so that you are permitted TO download them, just like downloading from iTunes, and you can, of course, download your own videos) then the message is clear- you cannot, should not, must not download videos.
|CONJOPI||3/18/10 8:36 AM|
As I've said before, Adobe must also be breaking YouTube's ToS as all videos are downloaded and cached on the user's hard drive.
just go to the video you want to download, paste that in the URL bar, and hit enter. You can also save it as a bookmark and use it that way.
|stuartindigo||3/18/10 10:06 AM|
@ CONJOPI - Adobe is ok as that is the "functionality of the website" - what you are suggesting is in breach of that
|Watchfuliz||4/7/10 2:35 PM|
I had the same problem. I tried all the usual stuff, updating RP, uninstalling RP and reinstalling with a new download of RealPlayer. Nothing worked.
Then I went back to my Internet Explorer with it opened and clicked on tools, Intertnet Options, Programs, Manage Add-ons. Scrolled down through the list of add-ons and found Real Player disabled, enabled it and now it works great!
|Ray32||5/13/10 9:52 PM|
I figured out a way that it worked for me, well two ways.
1. I usually use my Firefox browser with the realplayer download function, so I decided that because it's done this before that I would try and use the RealPlayer browser (just click an add and a new window pops up, enter url there) to check if it's YouTube just trying to nazi its way on us. I found that it still works this way.
2.I have IE (Internet Explorer 8) so I also tried there and the results were the same as the RealPlayer browser.
Anyway, this worked for me so I thought I'd share with you all.
|Mike Geronime||5/27/10 8:42 PM|
As of today (at least) you can still download videos (exactly as you used to be able to with Internet Explorer) by using Mozilla Firefox as your web browser. Open Firefox (which is a free download on the Internet), go to YouTube, and download to your heart's content.

|texasccl2||6/27/10 4:05 PM|
i do not see the realplayer download tab anymore above the righthand corner of the video.
i used to download videos via the ie8 browser. that stopped several months ago.
i tried firefox and it allowed me to download videos to real player until today. june 27 2010.
is anyone else having the same problem?
is there a change i need to make to settings elsewhere or is downloading no longer available any way, form or fashion?
some people say this is stealing? what is a download of an image from the internet then?

I had no idea it was ever possible! I missed out!
|markimatang||6/27/10 4:20 PM|
what is a download of an image from the internet then? If it's copyrighted downloading it is stealing!
|texasccl2||6/28/10 7:40 AM|
any image that i have seen a copyright inferred i contacted the owner or company and asked their permission; to date i have not had a refusal as long as i use it for personal usage on my computer.
|anmoose||6/28/10 9:01 AM|
If you got permission from the copyright owner, then you're covered, at least for personal usage. (To broadcast it on YouTube could well be an altogether different matter.) And that would indicate, too, that you downloaded that image from a site that permits it. Downloading a video from YouTube is NOT permitted. Read the ToS.
|BogusDudeGW||6/28/10 9:10 AM|
Lets try this from another angle.
I produce videos and happy for anyone to download any of my own movies if they wish, aswell as link or embed them on their own sites.
If producers wish to protect their content they should have that option. If the copyright detection software picks up your movie they should be automatically protected (like insight). But i own the copyright to my movies, not youtube!!
|Videodave2||6/28/10 9:46 AM|
>If the copyright detection software picks up your movie they should be automatically protected (like insight). But i own the copyright to my movies, not youtube!!
I don't get your point, I don't think anyone has said that YouTube owns your copyright. In fact they spell out in their terms, that you indeed retain your copyright.
But, unfortunately, even though you are happy to let others download your creations, it is still against YouTube TOS. On the other hand, since, I guess you will not complain if they do, then who would know.
|markimatang||6/28/10 11:47 AM|
>If the copyright detection software picks up your movie they should be automatically protected.
I don’t get your point either, perhaps because you are mixing levels of infringement. Downloading a video from YouTube may or may not be a copyright infringement but, without YT’s permission, it is against TOS. The content ID program identifies copyrighted material uploaded (or re-uploaded) to YT. Except when it is in error, it identifies copyrighted material that is published on YT and this is a more serious level of infringement.
If you are interested in distributing your video consider licensing it under creative commons. Also, you can provide much better quality than is available through YT.
|BogusDudeGW||6/30/10 8:29 AM|
Just cos its in the TOS doesn't make it right, there shouldn't be any restrictions in the TOS without good reason. So unless you can enlighten me further the only reason i can think of is for copyright protection, which in my eyes is the copyright owners right to decide whether their material should be protected or not. In the same way the likes of WMG protect their material, they have the right to decide if a movie is pulled, muted or tagged with adverts. If the copyright detection picks up my movie then i have waived my rights as copyright owner of the movie so its not my decision for said video
|anmoose||6/30/10 9:56 AM|
>>Just cos its in the TOS doesn't make it right,It doesn't have to be "right." YouTube owns the website, and just like the owners of every other website, THEY have every right to make the rules as they see fit. Whether or not you think it's "right" is completely irrelevant. If you want all the rules your own way, then start your own website.
|BogusDudeGW||6/30/10 10:21 AM|
|BogusDudeGW||6/30/10 10:30 AM|
But in response to your sheepish comment
TOS agreements are constantly being revised. New stuff added and removed all the time. Because, get this, people who write up TOS agreements don't always get it right first time. And without an open discussion as to what is right or wrong they never will get it right. And wtf do you know, maybe my opinion of whats right or wrong on the issue makes damn more sense than the reasoning for putting in there in the first place, but like i say, what would you know
|Landtat||6/30/10 11:50 AM|
And from out of now where comes yet another Burger King "I want it my way" user.
You've been mounting a comment campaign all day BogusDude just to level up.
The only thing you've gotten right so far is your nick name.
Because in short all your advice today has been BogusDude".
Please refrain from commenting until you understand that YT has rules and it doesn't matter what you or anyone else feels is right.
|anmoose||6/30/10 11:57 AM|
Sheepish comment? Ha!
I'm just stating the facts, oh Bogus One. You can take it any way you want. Or not. I don't personally give a flying rat's ass.
|BogusDudeGW||6/30/10 12:32 PM|
touche Tit for Tat and all you've done all day is put people down and trash talk yourself, atleast i actually attempt to give advice and opinions rather than throw tinfoil hats at everyone, you got some issues dude.
Level up, lmao you guys are much higher level than me and your opinions count for no more or less than me or anyone else, my level is 100% meaningless to me else it'd be much higher when this acc is as old as yours. you guys are obviously either unemployed or have a pointless office job doing little more than surfing the net and rotating chain e-mails all day long
And Landtat don't EVER EVER tell me to stop commenting or even point towards rules or suggest it doesn't matter what i think is right or wrong after some of the things you've been coming out with lately
And i'll respect your opinion as much as anyone elses anmoose, until you make comments like 'If you want all the rules your own way, then start your own website' then you WILL get some comeback, by myself and no doubt anyone else you direct them at. Your a sheep cos all you can do is "state facts" rather than have your own opinion, my "opinion" there was a fully justifiable that happened to differ from yours so i get attacked, ahem, screw you!
Back to levels, counts for nothing, as you both prove, you guys still got alot to learn about conducting yourselves in a public forum and gaining respect from fellow users. You just about get to the point where you have some respect for good posts then come out with unnecassry attacks like this as if your somebody, reality check, your most definitely NOT
|Landtat||6/30/10 12:39 PM|
See my other comment on another thread.
Really, just quit while you're behind.
We got this way from listening to people like you.

Oh, and we didn't state OUR opinion, we stated the rules.
Thank you for flying "yeraDick Airways"
|BogusDudeGW||6/30/10 12:52 PM|
LOL Landtat you truely are thick (you must be the unemployed one), the only useful skill you seem to have is making enemies, add me to your list, this will be the last comment you get from me today, or any other day, my time is much more precious than your worth
Suck It !!! You know you like it !!! I'll even put a tinfoil cap on it if it makes you happy, f-ing weirdo
|anmoose||6/30/10 1:09 PM|
Um... Excuse me, your Bogusness, but I'm the unemployed one. In more proper circles, however, we refer to it as retired. I quit working two years ago, and I'm rather enjoying doing what *I* want after all these years, rather than working for a living. Keep working that job at Burger King, and some day when you grow up, you too might be able to get paid for being unemployed... LOL
|BogusDudeGW||6/30/10 1:30 PM|
FYI i'm a 35 y/o automotive quality engineer just about to start my 2nd degree, my job is more than interesting and fulfilling thanks. Yes i do look forward to retirement and have nothing but respect for those who've served their time and believe they have the right to enjoy that retirement in whatever way they see fit. But you should be wise enough not to get dragged into that muppets trolling ways and as a regular am sure you've seen nothing but him trashing nearly every thread he's been on lately. Don't let him drag you down to his level, he's not clever and defo not funny, just a prick!
Sorry but i'm really not interested in petty troll fights unless i can do it face to face so i'm done here
|Landtat||6/30/10 1:32 PM|
I myself have earned retirement and because of my age and having owned my own businesses all my life, know a total jerk off when i see one.
|Videodave2||6/30/10 1:48 PM|
>you too might be able to get paid for being unemployed... LOL
Not to derail the thread, but, I'm surprised at the number of gainfully unemployed there are of us here. ;-)
|Landtat||6/30/10 1:51 PM|
Yeah, odd how working hard and applying yourself for most your life, then making your money work for you lets you enjoy the rest of your life.
I'm the first to admit I am a prick, but when it comes from a guy who has nothing but comments that don't have anything with reality, (see all his comments, it's a real head slapper)
then I become an even bigger prick.
|Landtat||6/30/10 1:53 PM|
Down voting in frustration is for kids Bogus, you really are an immature git.
|anmoose||6/30/10 4:17 PM|

Still not permitted by the TOS to download videos from YouTube. Reasons mainly to do with the fact that YouTube don't wish you to and it is their site and because the owners of the videos' copyrights don't agree to let you have their materials for "free".
|Landtat||7/2/10 4:29 AM|
|Videodave2||7/2/10 4:50 AM|
Amen, Stephanie. Lots of people pirate stuff, but, when they get sanctimonious about it, like "Hey it is my God given right to download" , somehow that really rankles. Why not just admit that what you are doing is not really nice, but, you intend to continue doing it?
|Landtat||7/2/10 6:05 AM|
It's my God given right to have downloaded every John Wayne movie..... EVAR!!!!!!!

Actually it might or might not be youtube's fault. But realplayer has changed it's own extension. As a chrome user, the extension by realplayer is now labelled http://www.youtube.com/html5 and join the beta. I doubt it will last knowing google's stance on HTML5 right now. But for now, there you go.
|cowhead||7/12/10 5:35 AM|
To texasccl2 and celticrosetense Do you use Firefox?? - go to mozillla firefox site and download Download Helper. A very small addon that will blow the hell out of any measures Youtube has taken to stop your downloads. It worked for me when I came accross this problem last month. And today Im still downlading Youtube vids no problem.
And everyone here telling people to protect copyrights and stop download - suck my boner. :-] :-]

@Hannibal - you obviously do not understand the concept of copyright. Any artistic creation (video, picture, book etc) is automatically the copyright of the creator until such time as those rights are assigned to a third party.
|anmoose||7/16/10 10:52 PM|
@HannibalBarrett, you are completely missing a rather vital point, and one thats even written into YouTube's Terms of Service. EVERY SINGLE ORIGINAL VIDEO uploaded to YouTube is copyrighted. Be it the guy with the bat, the lousy singer, or a cute kitten, each video is the intellectual property of the person who created it and uploaded it, and it is just as fully protected under copyright law as any major movie production. Just the fact that it's not a commercial production does NOT negate the fact that it's protected. You download it, you're stealing it, and you're violating the owner's copyright. Joe Shmoe with the bat could as easily sue YouTube for NOT getting involved as could Viacom, or Warner. He could also sue you. It's his legal right. Get the picture?...

|mactifosi||7/23/10 6:03 AM|
I find this a strange policy by Google.
I would like to download videos and then sync them to my iPhone.
I don't want to have to connect to the internet every time I want to watch a favorite video - man it so damn slow.
I want it available quickly, so offline is the best way. I download on my Mac, then sync to my iPhone with iTuber and iTunes.
Ideally I would like the option to make video available offline.
I really don't see how downloading content is breach of the copyright. It is only a breach if I re-use the content or change it and re-use it, or share it with other individuals.
If I download it for my own private consumption, that is not a breach of copyright.
The other argument would be that they can never stop this.
With a screen capture tool, you can simply copy the film, strip the audio if you feel like it.
So why bother?
|loozerkidd||7/23/10 4:12 PM|
The most practical solution for YouTube would be to all the person uploading their video the option to choose if they wish to allow the video to be downloaded for free, for a fee, or not at all. The only videos I download are instructional, and I only download them so I can view them later while working on that project so I have no need to worry about a strong wifi connection...but that's just me. One of the many nobodies that a corporation like that would ever listen to. After all, it's called "YouTube" not "GoogleTube"...shouldn't the artist or creator be given freedom to decide how their work is displayed and distributed?
|Videodave2||7/23/10 4:19 PM|
>The most practical solution for YouTube would be to all the person uploading their video the option to choose if they wish to allow the video to be downloaded for free, for a fee, or not at all.
To do that would require that anyone wanting the download option would need to go through the same proof process that partners do. Otherwise, if someone uploaded a copyright violation, and YouTube allowed download, they would be in serious trouble. That is probably too much for them to bother with.
|TLFU||7/23/10 6:20 PM|
Yep- as Videodave2 says- that IS supposing that all uploaders upload only original, non-pirated content to begin with. And that their licence (if acquired) covers not only broadcast but download. Which it wont.
Personally? Why can't people accept that YouTube is not a download site, fullstop? Uploaders of original content enter into an agreement with YouTube every time they hit "upload" (well- actually every one does) and they expect to have the rights laid out in that agreement- that they are not going to be ripped off. End of.

I finally found a solution to getting Realplayer downloader to work in IE8. Also found a solution for Firefox.
RealPlayer Downloader doesn't work
In Internet Explorer 8:
Go to tools; Internet options; manage add-ons; click on "tools and extensions" scroll down on the upper right side and find "Realnetworks, inc and click on and highlight "RealPlayer Download and Record Plugin for Internet Explorer". Then on the very bottom right hand side you will see the word "Enable", click on it. What seems to happen is that by default, it is automatically disabled when installed. Then click on the close button. Then also click on the OK button on internet options. Then restart IE 8.
Open firefox, and type about:config in the address bar
Then change the value to false.
After doing this restart firefox and now the realplayer flash downloader should start working again.
also: I made the change, but it does not work. Melissa, the "address" bar is the URL bar. There is also a filter bar in the config window.
Double-click on the value or right click and select "Toggle" to toggle between true and false. "Status" will also toggle between "default" and "user set."
- type about:config in the address bar
Or: Uninstall Realplayer and then reinstall it back again. Sometimes works.
But remember not to remove your library and such.
