The volume of this app is way too loud compared with the old built in one. On most videos, even with the headphones on their lowest volume, videos are still too loud. This needs changing.
I would like to see the ability to upload, edit and delete videos in-app, and also be able to order my subscribed channels, and see age-restricted videos.

I've just done some more testing, and i think I know the problem. I booted the app without headphones, then later plugged headphones in. While the ios volume control was aware that I was using headphones, I think something in the app was increasing the volume as if I was still using speaker.
Retarting the app with headphones plugged in fixes the volume issue.

Thank for the release of this app. Awesome! Maybe you could include the feature that allows for download of videos like the YouTube Downloader app for Symbian? Also I already have a YouTube account with a different username and saved/favourited videos. Is there anyway I can link that to my gmail account and see them without having to search for and favourite them all over again?

Looks like subtitles still don't work, I don't think they have ever worked even on the old app. That's the first thing I'd get working.
Second, as mentioned before, 2X iPhone apps look awful on the iPad. An iPad native app shoukd be required. Glad to hear it's coming.
Now for the good news... the videos themselves looked fine which is the most important thing, Everything else is just details.

You should be able to pair your device through this app to the ps3 youtube app like you can through the mobile website. And also be able to use the app as the paired device for the ps3.

I think the app is excellent the video and audio quality is just in real brilliant. only thing that's really annoying me is that I can't share to Facebook. when I click the share button and then Facebook but Facebook just comes up and then disappears it won't post even after authentication with facebook :( any ideas?

I am surprised that it is going to take months to release the iPad version. The decision to delay the iPad version is not very smart. Youtube is probably the most used application on the iPad and no the browser version is NOT good.

Hi, first I need to say that such a nice app it is. But... there's one thing to fix. Sometimes the app changes video quality to 240p that is unbearable. This happens automatically and you can't help it. 240p video is too blurry and sounds so bad that I want to stop watching the video. I would like to request a feature that switchs off the automatic quality adjuster. I would rather wait until the video buffer is full enough to start/continue watching. Actually, I wouldn't mind if there's an option to switch between the different video qualities. And it would be nice to have the 720p too.

amazing app! I've only found a bug... when I try to share a video on fb, the app correctly retrives the exact infos to autenticate to fb, but shows the message "Youtube Mobile is misconfigured for Facebook login", and I can do nothing but return to the video (without sharing it, of course). I'm normally using the same account on youtube via web, sharing videos on fb without any problem...

I agree with agentm925. You should be able to pair your device through this app to the ps3 youtube app like you can through the mobile website. And also be able to use the app as the paired device for the ps3. As it stands, I have to use the old mobile website to use my ps3 app pairing (which is the only way I use the ps3 app).
I am sure this is just an oversight, and that you intended for us to have this functionality. Please fix asap.

-U should add option in your IOS Chrome browser to eanble users to open Youtube videos links in your Youtube app instead of native IOS Youtube app.

For some reason, AirPlay only streams audio to my apple tv whereas the HTML 5 web app works perfectly with apple tv. Can you guys fix this? Overall it's a great experience and far better than the native iOS app.

How about an answer to the question about Facebook sharing? Why give us a button and the option if sharing to Facebook is misconfigured? Why create this frustration amongst your users with no support or information?

Really like the app, it looks great and is really easy to navigate.
There is one thing that I feel the app is missing however; the user needs to be able to select what quality they stream a video in, just like you can on the website. My internet struggles to buffer anything over 480p and from the look of it, the app is set to buffer in 720p.
Please add this feature, it will complete the app ^^

Thanks for the feedback everyone. We're planning to roll out fixes, especially for the Facebook integration/sharing. Once I get a better handle on the fixes and release dates, I'll continue to update this thread with more information.

Every time I try to add a video to favorites I get an alert saying "Error adding video to favorites." I've tried this on my account and my boss' account; an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4S. Same problem on both phones and both accounts. It's extremely frustrating.

I have to say, I love the new app. There are some things I'd like to see, if they're possible, in futre updates however.
1. The ability to directly reply to comments. Like maybe a slide gesture on the comment and there's a textbox with an @(insert username) already there. I typed a reply out but the person didn't seem to get it which is why i say this.
Other than that I'm really very satisfied with this app. But those are just some ideas that came to mind

It's way better than the "native" app EXCEPT for airplay which should NOT require mirroring to work. I watch most of my YouTube via airplay/Apple TV on my main TV, and really miss that feature.
Oh, and an iPad version, like real soon, would be awesome too....

Why was Video Out left out of the app. Surely the makers of this Google YouTube App have iOS devices and saw Apple's YouTube app and noticed it supports Video Out. Where is Video Out? There is no excuse for leaving out this very important feature. All apps that play video also play through Video Out. If this feature does not appear in the next version of this app then we'll know it's something deliberate Google is doing to harm/punish us for using iOS and not their lousy Android platform. Put it back in! Google/YouTube already has enough problems needlessly antagonizing the public - I can't imagine starting a fight with iOS users by denying us Video Out a good idea. Just stop it - put in this feature. Duh.

Hi, the app is better than the iOS stock app, but is there any way you can fix the sharing with the Facebook app issue? Also, and I'm not sure if this is because of the stock app and if you have any control over it, but anytime I click on a YouTube link, it opens the stock vs the real app. Yes, I can wait until iOS 6 to fix this, but since G Maps is disappearing, I doubt I'll be moving to 6 for awhile. While I'm here, a faster link to favorites would be nice too. Thanks!

As other users mentioned in this thread, there's an issue with Airplay on iPhone 4. It shows a message that indicates "the device only supports sound on Airplay" when streaming to AppleTV.
However, Apple's Youtube does fully support Airplay, making this app a big leap backward for some of us.

I really like it, it's so much better than the current inbuilt one in iOS 5. I do, however feel that there are a few things 'missing':
- the option to change the default rotation when you press a video's full screen button would be great, so that I (and I suspect others) can have the screen rotated at our preferred position when rotation lock is on.
- I'm a bit confused why videos seem to degrade in quality suddenly when I'm watching them, it may be due to my slightly dodgy wifi connection, but I'd prefer it if the quality only changed for the worse if you started on mobile Internet, or to override that, have an option in settings for default HD videos, even on mobile Internet.
- could we have the ability to delete favourites from your favourites list, as on the video page, there is only the option to add to favourites.
- it'd be awesome If we could click links, rather than them just being plain text.
- in the side tab, could there be your 'pinned subscriptions' at the top, as at the moment it doesn't take heed of that, just shows all subscriptions.

I'd love to see support for YouTube's stereoscopic 3D player on the next release of the mobile app. Right now it plays the raw side-by-side file for 3D videos.

The new app looks nice. I like the higher resolution video thumbnails. AirPlay is severely broken. Requiring Mirroring means that I must leave my iPhone turned on and waste my battery. Also, with Mirroring the video does not fill the screen. The old native app and website do not require Mirroring.

The app completely lacks web proxy support. This is actually a rare thing from just about every other vendor. Very disappointed that once again Google completely ignores this functionality. It doesn't look particularly difficult to include in your apps. Why is Google's devs repeatedly leaving this functionality out? Do they need help finding the documentation from Apple? This functionality needs to be added urgently. Many education and enterprise customers must be locked out from using your app on their networks. We'll need to stick to using Safari to access YouTube for the time-being.

Please add AirPlay support (audio+video) otherwise the app only looks more modern than the original 5-year old app but is basically useless in terms of functionality.
Many iPhone and iPad users also own an Apple TV. Please add full AirPlay support.

I also have problems mirroring videos from my iPhone to the Apple TV using this app. This is a feature that is available in the Apple's version of the YouTube App, which will be taken out in future versions of iOS. It used to be available in the web version, as well. For some reason, though, it does not work anymore. I can almost guaranteed this feature is just simply blocked in your App because when I do just airplay without mirror, it will tell me to mirror. When I turn on the mirror option, it mirror's the iPhone's screen with a video. The iPhone's current screen does not use the entire screen so the video looks boxed with big black borders around the TV. Those borders look just horrible and very unprofessional and I am surprised a big company like Google to allow something like this. Again, that would never happen before. All other websites I know support iPhone's Airplay by default. Please bring back support to your website and definitively bring it to your iOS app. I already sent this request to your feedback page.

How about background audio support? The built-in iOS YouTube app supported playing audio when the app was in the background or when the screen was locked. (using the headphone remote button)
This is a great feature for listening to the tons of music videos on YouTube.

The subscription to show on the newsfeed was confusing. Now it's called uploads? That makes it sound like it's the videos you uploaded... not what your subscribed channels are uploading... please change that!

I don't like this new app. Could you please implement these features:
button to scale video to adjust it to the phone's screen;
sound volume slide bar;
some way to be able to open links from the video's description in the browser;
sort comments view (by date, by positive votes etc).

I've downloaded the youtube for mobile on my iphone 4s after downloading ios 6. I'm having a problem sharing videos to Facebook, however. It continually allows "only me" to see the videos after sharing from my iphone in Facebook on my timeline and wall. I've one into Facebook and looked at the settings for the application. I've changed it to friends and customized who not to show them to. Saved it. It still shows videos to "only me" when I share from my iphone.
I've tried uninstalling the app on my phone and that doesn't work. What gives?

I would like to see some features from the YouTube mobile site added to the app, specifically the ability to play video on paired televisions and the ability to check inbox messages. I also see that videos that have advertisements before they play do not show up on my mobile subscriptions page at all. I have to get on the computer to even see that these videos have been uploaded. I do like the app overall and it is much better than the previously pre-installed app.

Its a a really good app,but theres no volume control or full screen view,we just get the wide screen black bars versions. Also the automatic play,I would like to be able disable it,so I can I can decide when to play the video,becaue sometimes I picked the wrong video.

First, i like the layout and speed of the new app. But I am disappointed that I cannot view videos full-screen in the vertical/upright position on my iphone. I have several videos of my nephew saved in my favorites that where taken with an iphone in the vertical/upright position. When I try to view these with the new app it automatically rotates the screen to horizontal/landscape mode and my video becomes tiny. I looked to see if there's an option in the settings but no. I'm hoping this will be fixed REAL soon.

The app, unlike the built in version on previous iOS does not work with the TV AV cable. This is the biggest flaw for me, as someone who likes to plug the cable in and watch YouTube videos on my TV.
Also, on some videos, it starts off fine, but then it says that the device is not Authorised to play the Video.
Fix this please. That was the biggest feature for me.

AutoPlay for playlists works on the desktop, but not in the iOS app. Please add this feature, it's really important when you want to be able to present a playlist that plays a set of videos. Thanks!

The Airplay video is not working.
The workaround right now is to use Airplay mirroring but this is not as good as before because you can not have a video in Full screen.
Also the new Youtube app is not working in background therefor you can not choose a video and play audio while surfing with Safari.
Hope it will be corrected soon :)

Have one problem though: When i watch a video on iPhone4S with iOS 6 and share it on fb, firstly it doesn't show up on my wall (when visited from the fb app) and when on the pc it recomends i download the official app?

I uploaded the iOS on my iphone and it erased my youtube app with all my saved videos and categories I created! I re-downloaded the new youtube app and Hate It!! It takes away my ability to create my own categories and save videos to each respectively. I no longer have any control over this. So not right. If I would have known what this update was going to do to all my saved settings, categories, videos then I never would have uploaded. Thanks for the wasted time I had spent creating my own personal categories. Poof!

I wonder if you tried to refresh comments... I tried 5 times to get it right pull down doesn't work as it should. You have to fast pull down and sometimes you cannot even do it correctly. I downloaded the new app yesterday & decided to create a gmail account since all of my favorites were lost when the original iphone default app was taken away. Now that I have a gmail account, I am unable to create a playlist or add anything to "my favorites". I just get an error message. Then I thought that I would try creating a play list online through my computer but I get an error message there as well. So now I'm unsure where the issue is...the app? my account? something else? I can't find an answer anywhere so I hope someone can help me here.

There is a language spesific error. All users that using Turkish as iphone language are having same issue. Whatever you search the result is "error loading tap to retry"

Whats happened with AirPlay?
I downloaded the new YouTube app and played a film trailer but when sending it to AirPlay on AppleTV it said it could only play the audio, this message splashed up for all of 2 seconds before disappearing?
Other apps like Vevo send Video to ATV ok just not this new YouTube app.

Is there a reason I can't use an application-specific password instead of my actual Google account password to login to the YouTube iOS app?
This is an official Google app so I don't think there is really a security risk to use my Google account password, but as a personal policy, I NEVER enter my actual Google account password into a app. The old integrated iOS YouTube app allowed application-specific passwords, so why doesn't the new official app from Google?

The app is nice, but I could not imagine what my 2 and half year old son's reaction will be. New you tube app has lost the ease of use and navigation between favorites, featured videos,history. I don't like the way new uploads are displayed. My concerns are:
- Thumbnails are too narrow
- Channel name is displayed twice (unnecessary redundancy)
- no 'Watch Later' button
- too few information/stats (only views)
I made some changes in Photoshop to show you what I mean. Can I contact you privately to give you a link or an email attachment? I put a lot of effort in my design.

hey. i like the feature to see the comments while seeing the video above. i missed that in the apple version. the app would be perfect (for me) except for one big thing missing which was possible in the apple version. sometimes i would like to open a video, lock the screen, put the phone in the pocket and walk. if i lock the iphone now in your version, the sound disappears. perfect would be like it was in the apple version: open a video --> wait for it to play for a second --> close app --> double klick home button --> switch to the left where to find audio controls --> press play so content from youtube will be played and screen can be locked. that is the biggest feauture i personally miss. the best would even be to play video --> lock screen --> hear sound :) that would be more than awesome! thanks for reading.

My son is autistic and loved watching YouTube on his ipad! Since updating to the new iOS6 the youtube app is gone!! Please make an ipad version soon! Not sure why you didn't have one ready knowing that apple deleted it from the pre installed part on the new OS6. He was in tears.... I would upload a video of him praying to the apple and google people to bring back his you tube ,but... well I can't. Please let us know when the ipad is done. thanks

I would love to see non-mirrored AirPlay support in a future update.
Please reconsider your approach to AirPlay support. Only allowing AirPlay through mirroring is a confusing user experience and the performance based on my experience was laggy and slow. On top of this, the video presentation is boxed and doesn't utilize the full television screen.

Please add the volume slider bar that was on the youtube app before! Where is the zoom in feature that was there before? I don't like that i can't enlarge the video when i look at it vertically! I would like to be able to go to my favorites and uploads from this new navigation barm, Not have to click my username first! I wish the videos would stop starting the loading process over if you rewind the videos. I have to wait for the whole video to load again! The search result should have landscape mode.

I would like to be able to confirm that I am an adult inside your new iPhone application just like the website is asking me to. I cannot find a way to play all the videos on youtube, because the iPhone application keeps blocking me off. The Apple application was faster, tiled horizontally better, had the zoom-in option and I wasn't being blocked from anything.

The iOS app lacks many features that, as a content creator, I would love to see added. It definitely caters to the viewer rather than the partner.
This has resulted in me having to download another similar youtube app to accomplish basic features:

And that's just the beginning.
I find that most of what I do on a day-to-day as a creator on youtube I just can't do on the iOS device. Since there are apps out there that can, I find myself still ignoring YouTube's own app.

Hi, My sons each have iPod touches. Since they upgraded to ios6 and installed the youtube app, they haven't been able to play videos. They can search for and select clips, but when they try to play the clip the Touch's start off the network activity, but then (and without playing anything) throw up a "general error".
Can't watch clips through the m.youtube website either - network timeout when loading the clip.
but the internet works - can browse dozens of sites with no errors
Please fix the bugs. And we desperately need the Google Maps App - i won't upgrade my phone's os till its available......

We have this same problem at our house (sounds like it anyway!)
On all of our Desktop and Laptop PCs, everything about YouTube works great. So I know YouTube isn't be blocked by either my hardwired or wireless Router or Firewall systems.
First noticed Monday evening (10-01), last anyone tried YouTube previous to that was Sunday night (09-30) at which time everything was working fine.
No videos will load or play on *any* of our iOS devices... (iPad1 on 4.3.3, iPad2 on 5.1.1, iPhone4S on 5.0, 2 iPhone4 on 5.0.1, iPhone5 on 6.0) (Some devices are Jailbroken, the iPhone5 on 6.0 with the latest YouTube App is obviously not Jailbroken so should work without problems)
Videos themselves never actually start or are even being served to the App in any way. When selecting any Video on any of the iDevices, in the space where a Video would normally load, it shows the Black Screen with the YouTube Logo and the circling Wait Icon. Some versions of the App say "Loading" some like the new App don't show the YouTube Logo in the black area, only the Wait Icon, some eventually bring up a PopUp that reads "The Movie could not be played". In any instance where the timeline (scrub bar) is shown the times are 0:00 of 0:00
There are no Parental Controls or Restrictions enabled on any of the iDevices.
The symptoms are the same at m.youtube.com on any of the devices with or without the "join html5" option.
The YouTube App loads properly, including the new App, the old iPhone App, and the old iPad App and the new iPhone App on the iPads. Including one from Cydia.
We are able to login to YouTube using any of the iApps on any of the iDevices.
We are able to browse, search, view and modify favorite lists.
All of the iApps on all of our iDevices show all information including Thumbnails, Titles, Views, Poster, Rating, Run-Time (anywhere except in the player where length is always shown as 0:00), Links, Comments, Related, More From, etc.
The Video Playback window can be minimized and maximized, and displays the Add, Share, Like, Dislike, Flag, links. In the new iPhone App it shows the BoxArrow icon which properly brings up the menu to Share, Add to Watch Later, Add to Favorites, Add to Playlist, Flag, Cancel. These functions all seem to work properly.
OTHER Video on the device plays properly including Video recorded on the iDevice, Video and Sample Video from iTunes, Vimeo Video, Vimeo embedded in websites, Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc.
Since the devices can all connect to and read from the YouTube Apps and website in all but actual video playback, they are certainly properly connected to the Internet with no obvious blocks into or out of YouTube.
My Sons are losing their minds without their YouTube. ;) Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

I don't know what happened yesterday, but there were some changes made to where mobile views show up on the adsense screen, and the numbers froze for an hour or 2, now, my adsense revenue from mobile views ( which had been consistently around 10% since mobile was monetized,) has now mysteriously dropped to 6% ...I have no idea what happened....is this related to an update on some apple devices, and they are not seeing ads ? Either way, it is costing me revnue, and hope it is fixed soon.

See above /\ I'm not the only one with this problem, I think they changed something about how they're serving videos to mobile and a lot of people aren't seeing YouTube *at all* on iDevices. It's not iOS 6 related though, I have the problem on all my iDevices and iOSs from 4.3 to 6.
It's some sort of WiFi problem from what I've narrowed down. I haven't changed anything about my setup at home but suddenly YouTube stopped playing at the same time it happened to others.
However it *does* still play videos over Cellular Data... that would account for why your drop wasn't to zero % and we don't have everyone complaining, because some people haven't noticed because they don't connect exclusively through WiFi. They chaulk it up to lag and normal weirdness because it works for them later either because it's hooking up to Cellular Data or another WiFi configuration that's still working with YouTube and iDevices.
I've since tried changing just about everything about my WiFi setup and nothing has worked, we're still unable to play *any* YouTube video on *any* of our iDevices. (Tried WEP, WPA, WPA2, AES, TKIP, No Security, two different WiFi Routers)
Driving me nuts.

OK temporary workaround / fix has been found thanks to the Apple Forums. Hopefully the info will help YouTube track down the problem and get it fixed.

So far it's worked for me on the two devices I tried, iPad1 on 4.3.3 and iPhone5 on 6.0

Thanks for following up, I hope the tech support read the posts, all I know for certain is that my mobile ad revenue has dropped about 50% since whatever change was made on Tuesday....I will post back if it corrects or we hear anything. More than likely, there isnt anything wrong with your setup, it is a global issue. My numbers dropped in half immediately after whatever change was made Tuesday.

WOW...that workaround worked perfect, however I checked my wife's iPhone, and there are zero ads showing on any videos on youtube. none...and I am running an adwords campaign, so those clicks on any of my videos are costing me money and I am earning nothing from them....humm....have to reconsider adwords or make some adjustments until this is straightened out.

its alright but given that you can't save video's to your phone or iPod Touch is a shame. I us my iPod Touch to show video's when I'm using a 3D modeling program and I don't want to keep the video up on my Desktop or Laptop when i'm working

Can anyone here confirm or actually hear of anyone that actually saw any ads on iphones , ipads, or any apple devices after they downloaded the new youtube player? I have had no increase in mobile earnings since Sept 1st, and as a matter of fact , my mobile revenues dropped suddenly last Monday or Tuesday, when they switched settings on the adsense page...I know there is no correlation, but it is odd.

This app has really agitated my son and many other kiddos. With the old app we could save easily to a favorites list. With this app we cannot. We have signed in and tried to make a playlist and save to favorites. Every time we get an error message. The interface is not as easy for children to use as the old Apple app. His favorites were supposedly saved in Safari bookmarks but when we click on any of them we get another error message and they weren't saved with the actual name of the video, but with a series of letters and numbers that even I can't decipher. Many children with disabilities use YouTube and this app makes it almost impossible for them to access YouTube indpependently. He has used my iPhone for years to keep busy in offices and the car while watching YouTube, now he is very frustrated as am I. Please fix the bugs, make a way to import our old favorites list, make an easy to access and save to favorites list - in other words make it as accessible as the old one.

The big problem is that you can only watch videos on it and comment!
You can't use messages!
I know there's a mobile version for browser but its way to simplified.. You need to put full scale messaging and have the ability to have full inbox and personal inbox etc and be able to copy and paste.. I know it may sound unwanted but YouTube is my business tool and to have good messaging with my viewers is my number one concern

The only thing that really bothers me is the removal of the volume slider. I find it so much easier to adjust the volume on the screen than to do so by using the buttons on the side of my phone. That is what I'm used to doing after years of having an iPod/iPhone. I don't see the need for a change now...

Guys, my sons both upgraded their ipod touches to ios6 and installed the YouTube app. It failed to play ANY videos whatsoever. It'd search ok, but just gave the tap to retry error when they tried to play anything.
I tried reinstalling the app. No change.
Eventually, I went into the iPod settings and did a "reset all settings". This does not delete any data, but you'll need to put your wifi password in again.
Immediately, the YouTube app worked, for the first time since the upgrade.

Having to download this app in favour of the pre-installed, and far superior one is ridiculous, fancy not making it iPhone 5 or iPad compatible? This app is terrible, and the developers should be ashamed. Not even Scott Forstall made interfaces this horrible. It's like game center, but worse. :-(
iPad still has no app, and viewing videos in a browser means you cannot fullscreen something. Apple really made me want to get an Android tablet, but can't convert with such low quality design and user experience when it comes to google software. It is clear that the company is stretched thin on talent, and needs some better PMs.

I must be honest this is a really mixed ap. it has some great features, the layout and interface is really nice and it brings many more options than the old ap but it is let down massively by its performance.
Now I should state that the issues I'm about to list did not occur on the old app nor do they occur when I use safari. They only occur with the google YouTube app.
Firstly the video quality is highly unreliable. It shifts from high quality clear images to incredibly blurry to the point of not being able to watch the video. Secondly, the video stops playing randomly even though the time stamp continues to advance. Thirdly, the sound quality shifts from clear to muffled and has quite often just disappears from the video altogether. And finally a frequent general error occurs which prevents the video from being played. All these errors are very annoying, needs to be sorted very quickly

I don't mind the app versus what the iOS had built in. Seems to function well and it isn't any slower loading a video. I just hope you guys get an iPad version or at least a "Plus" version of the app out soon that works on ALL iOS devices...regardless of screen size!! I miss YouTube on the iPad!! Also, it would be nice if the YouTube app worked if you hit the home button to go back to the home screen. What I mean is...if you have a song playing through YouTube but need to go back to another app, if you switch to something else it would be nice if the audio would at least still play unless you start up some other app that requires use of the on-board audio.

One bug: When I share to Facebook from the app, it doesn't actually post to Facebook! Also, the video caption on the app's share link is different than if I share from a browser.
Finally, it's totally lame to force me to open all YouTube links in the app when clicking them from Safari. It asks me if I want to open the link in your app or cancel. How about the option being to open the link in Safari? The Chrome app on iOS doesn't have this problem, thankfully and ironically.

you never thought of turning your iPod touch or iPad on its size. its the only way to get the video to go full screen, I should know seeing as I have down this before.
I kinda like the app and its different. As for the Android tablet its just a touch screen computer shrinked down with out the option of installing programs you have on CD or DVD and it only has a few good games that pretty good. Apple has been doing this for years with the original iPod click wheel having games on it and such.

Yeah, I have a problem. WHERE IS MULTITASKING? It can't play the song in the background if I'm listening to a song and switch apps! This used to happen in the iOS 5 app, therefore this new one is for the trash and the third party app Jasmine is better/what I'm using now.

The YouTube app doesn't fit the iPhone 5 screen..
And it consistently stops loading videos half way through. Even when I pause and unpause, it still doesn't work.
This never happened before.
It's really frustrating.
You guys are google.. like the most advanced tech guys ever. Please just fix this app issue. =(

New YouTube app is poor. It's missing a lot of things, people would be clad to see these in future updates:
1.AirPlay mirroring, fix it.
2.Ability to change video quality, It sucks when it change the quality automatically.
3.Optimzed for iPhone 5's screen.
4.I can only see a litte bit of my own comment when i'm typing it and I would love to see more of it.

When are you going to fix the app it's almost impossible to watch anything useing ur new app it dosnt buffer just keeps stoping even after letting it buffer a 1min video for over an hour it only played less then a quarter of the video. Feedback? It's terrible and unusable on the iPhone 5. Unless you like watching videos (in a video playing app!) with 2 black bars on both sides. Seriously since Sep. 10th you really couldn't make an update to support the new aspect ratio? Are you developing with waterfall model and stuck on redesigning or what the hell? Just wondering, with all new technologies available to science today, if the
culprit is the co2 cap or caps that are hovering over the earth and bouncing back reflected heat causing global warming, why can't you figure a way to blast that blasted cap with well placed nukes and blow it away into space, Perhaps it will be too radical to eliminate sthe caps completely since that will start the cycle towards global cooling and the ice age. perhaps a partial nuking to punch holes in th caps and slow down warming. This can be repeated every millenium or as needed. This wll be a damn site cheaper than trying to slow down warming by controlling emmisions from industry and industsrialized countries
Any idea where these caps are located? My guess is they're hovering over the polar caps is which why warming seems morep ronounced on the ice caps.

Please, please add integration to watched videos! I watch most of my subscribed videos on desktop, and then I'm away, want to watch some movies on iOS, but:
1. I don't know which movies I already watched on desktop.
2. Watched movies on iOS does not become watched movies on Desktop!

The YouTube apps appearance is really nice. There's a few suggestions/improvement I have though. I feel that things load very slow and it is a bit time consuming on top of that I really wish multitasking was on the app. So I don't use the app and end up using safari in order to multitask. I also don't like that when I click a video. It isn't automatically full screen. Other than those issues I'm pretty satisfied with the app.

Thanks for getting AirPlay to work. one problem with it, though. the connection from iPhone to AppleTV will disconnect when my iPhone's screen turns off after a couple minutes of not interacting with it & the iPhone goes to the lock screen. After I "slide to unlock", the connection immediately returns and the video stars playing on the AppleTV.
I haven't upgraded to iOS 6 because of Maps and YouTube. Now that the Maps app is back, the Youtube app is the only thing.

I appreciate the app, its great, but I have one major problem with the app.
Background: I have an iPhone 4, and use Chrome instead of Safari and Gmail instead of Mail (apps). One of the best things about the Gmail app is that I can choose whether to open attachments using Chrome or Safari. I dont want to be forced to use Safari as my default browser, and I dont want to be forced to use Mail as my default mail client.
Problem: If I try to share a link to a video by email, YouTube automatically uses Mail as the default mail client to send the email. It's cool that it can be done "within" the YouTube app, but I would appreciate the option to use the Gmail app if I so choose, which I think should be possible across all Google services. This is also a problem I recently noticed in Google Maps, but this probably isn't the place for that.

I think you should be able to watch videos and at the same time search for another video to watch in the (left) side bar - especially on the iPad. I just uninstalled the app...Since i cannot multitask I find no use for this App... I mean come on should i be forced not to do anything else on my Iphone while watching a video? Or do you focused 30 minutes on a video and do nothing else on such a small screen... I don't care if you are Google or Nasa this is a major flaw. This app is terrible. The video quality sucks. I can't play a lot of videos because it tells me they aren't available to underage viewers & I am 35. As far as I can tell there is no way to change that. If there is please let me know. I hate that I can't simply make a playlist without doing some complicated crap. It tells me I have to login to my google account on some web page & when I do it says its experiencing problems & to try again later. I don't like that I can't use my original youtube account that I've had for quite a few years, & I had to create a new one. I'm a big fan of youtube. What's up with this new app? I recently got an ipad, and I have a couple issues with the youtube app that I would love to see resolved. First of all, I would like to see the ability to manually change quality. I was watching a video and accidentally pressed the home button on my ipad, then I go back into the app and it starts loading the video in 240p and wouldn't stop (I can live stream at least 720p on the twitch.tv app, so I would hope I could stream in at least 720 consistently on the YouTube app). My second large issue is the inability to see if you have already seen a video. I'm sure you have probably heard one or both of my concerns, but I think that these issues are really important for bettering this app.

Don't know if you're still accepting feedback to improve YouTube on iOS, but please please please PLEASE make an option to choose what video quality you want. My iPod always chooses to watch things in 720p, and my internet connection can't handle that. I don't know why you haven't implemented this feature already, but sooo many people have asked for it and you really should add it.
I know you don't care about individual people unfortunately, but I can't watch YouTube videos because it always chooses a video quality my internet can't handle.
This shouldn't be too hard to code because it's on the PC version and has been forever. =/

I have a IPhone 4 and now when I try to watch videos from Youtube or my own on YouTube that I use to be able to biew. I get an error message that states "playback error". Hi, we all accept that app needs volume control, because if you are watching videos in horizontal position in a stand, it is not possible to get lower or bigger volume by touching screen, we have to use our both hands and lift ipad to reach volume buttons, i never touch thees buttons because i like that ipad can be controlled by touch, You took away this capability in new version of app..

The thumbs up & down buttons are ordered counterintuitively. They should be swapped, thumbs down on the left. I've never seen a "positive" rating button on the left, ever, until now.

After latest update the software is unable to start!
Iwas in the proccess of uploading a video wile updating and now i can not access the video nither start the software.

As a YouTube partner, I really miss inbox-functionality.
I'd also like an option to select the stream (ie. 320p/720p/1080p).
At the moment the app switches quality too quick during playback. That can get quite annoying.
And indented replies instead of @user-replies. Just like the desktop-site.

Hi, I've just downloaded the app today. It seems well laid out but one thing that stops me from using it fully is the limited commenting functions. For example, posting a comment is easy enough, but could you please show how many characters I have left. Also I can't reply to a specific person as I can via my laptop. There are no thumbs up or down button or even a flag for spam for specific people. What is point in being able to post a comment when you can't even reply or have something to add when another poster writes something you agree with. The whole point of a mobile app is to eliminate the need to use a desktop computer. Also being able to delete your own comment/post would be handy, just incase you want to reword it. Using the iOS software to enable one to hold the screen to select and copy specific text would also be a good edition, for quotes. It's these touches that make a world of difference to a users experience.

Seems to have a lot of issues with video errors or not available when following links from web sites in Safari. The YouTube app opens then fails to load the video, not available, or never loads with the spinning animation. I don't have the issues on Mac or Windows environment when reading the same web site. Appears to be iPad/iOS specific problem.

First i have to say i'm very glad of course that Google released a Google Maps and Youtube app on the app store after Apple cancelled the coop and hence the old apps were removed with iOS 6.
(On that note: shame on you Apple and that hubris will and is coming back at you (see Apple Maps fiasco and backlash))
Now the new youtube app is better on a few ends but sadly also more limited and worse on others.
Now my single biggest crit is: I don't want ads in this.

The Buffering doesn't work: Even on my 100 Mbit/s Connection ( and my ISP prefers YouTube Streams ) HD Videos don't go fluid. Even worst: They start HD and than switch to SD. Just your App has this bug, not on any browser on the computers. Why can't I lock the quality settings on 720p or more on my own?

I can not get the videos to play I get an message ( playback error ) or video not available @ this time. I used the old app for years with no issues - did the update & started getting the error messages. I can use a generic video app and videos load & play with no issues but I want to use youtube not some generic video app. Please send me by way of e-mail how I can fix this issue. I have tried every thing to get the new youtube to work with no positive results. Cheers

Have you got any reports of playback errors? I am using IOS 6.0.1 and since i have downloaded it most of the videos i try to play keep getting PlayBack Error.
I have removed the app and reinstalled it with no success. Any idea? Thoughts? Suggestions? Really frustrated?

I like it a lot, with the exeption of 2 major issues:
No ability to play the audio from the lock screen as before (I assume youtube is well aware of this and doesnt plan to change it, but really what difference does it make if I have already watched your commercial, its the same as if i am on my computer and tab over to something else.)
The other issue is the inability to choose a playback quality. I feel this is such a basic thing which should have been included from the start. 3G quality is downright terrible, but I know for a fact my 3G connection is usually fast enough to play at least 720p (done 1080p when tethered to my pc). I feel youtube should offer people a choice of quality - when I am watching youtube over 3G, I am willing to sacrifice more data use for better quality, since I have a large cap. Not all people do, granted, so that is why the choice of quality should be up to the viewer.

Ok, here's my feedback. Zero stars. People send me links to YouTube videos all the time, and EVERY ONE results in "can't play this video"-style message. What is the point of having an ipad app that doesn't play ANYTHING? I get the iOS/Flash video issue... I guess I figured this app would redirect to videos stored in a format that's playable on the ipad, but apparently not. Totally useless IMHO.

A lot of this is due to franchising. Some of the videos are not allowed to be played on portable devices.

I would like an easy way to add videos from my Home Feed on iPhone to my watch later. I would suggest a swipe left or swipe right gesture similar to how this works in the Reeder app or another option would be similar to the Pocket app where you can choose the next action after the swipe gesture.
Additionally, I would also suggest moving the watch later from within the video to a new section above the video description which is how it is currently set up for the iPad UI. Currently if you want to watch a video later you may have to wait through an add before the watch later button becomes available in the video.
I hope you consider these to UX changes.

it is good replacement to native IOS youtube app but it miss some features as:
-ability to change video quality to non HD mode so it load faster in slow networks.
-ability to edit or remove comments I made on any video.
-ability to replay to other users comments on video.
-ability to stretch video to full all the space of iphone screen in landscape mode.
-ability to make audio of video play on background.

can i say i hate the new app i unfortunalty broke the volume button on my phone and now have no way of turning up the volume when wearing head phones why the change i loved how easy it was to use now everything has been moved if it wasnt broken dont break it in this case

I dont know if this is supposed to happen or not but i cant seem to listen to videos with the screen turned off like i could with the old app. When i try to reinitiate listening to the video from the lockscreen, i just start my music and not the video. If that is normal then itd be awesome if you guys could try to make it work like it did before. Also, my favorites got wiped out in the transition because i wasnt using my youtube account before. So losing that list was kinda frustrating. Other than that, good update guys.

Would really like to see the option to set up alerts / push notifications - when you receive a message, when someone comments on your video etc. YouTube is a social network, but omitting these features hold it back.

The YouTube app on ios has a great interface but the videos take so long to buffer or thay don't buffer at all. It unusable to watch videos and that is the purpose of the app. I have to use the mobile web app in safari. I would rather use the app. So please fix this please. I would give it five stars if this was fixed.

1) Please put an option to reduce and increase the clarity (i.e. 240p to 720p)
2) Make separate option to show subscriptions and recommended

I would like to see a feature where I can post a video to a Facebook friends wall directly from the share feature on the YouTube app. It would be super convenient for your users. Please give us the option to select the resolution and and to ensure that the resolution does not change automatically. On the retina ipad, the video resolution changes constantly to a lower resolution that is literally unwatchable. It's pretty bad when I stream via airplay to the TV. Until this is provided, I can't watch any youtube videos on my ipad.

With the new update it has started to buffer for 40 seconds just to load 0.5 seconds of video and when it does even if I have full bars it turns the quality to the point when it just looks like a blur and the audio fluctuates from terrible to low. PS. I have the newest iPod and I would like feed back because I haven't been able to fined any on this.

Every time it has to load it goes into 240 p and you have to go to the last page and click on the video again and after you click on it you have to pause it and 25% of the time it goes into 240 p again. And I would like to be able to edit videos. Other than that every thing else is great, and I hope you don't change a thing.

I use the app all the time, but I have some issues with resolution dropping drastically for no apparent reason. Would like the possibility to change resolution manually.
It's also annoying that you can't read the entire video description on some videos.

Automatically dropping quality in favor of playback seems like a great idea but each time the app does this, I'd prefer waiting for the video to buffer.
Consider a software tutorial. It's pointless watching a video when all you can see is a blurry smudge. The native iPad app is kinda useless because it suffers from the opposite issue - the quality is to high most f the time.
Manual control over video quality would fix both apps but I prefer the other features of your app, so hope you'll take this request on board. Auto quality often renders apps useless for me - it's a real shame.

I think the YouTube iOS App is visually perfect. It optimizes the display and all, but I think there is one flaw that really bothers me (and others). It is the automatic internet-detecting-and-adjusting-video-quality mechanic. Sometimes we have good internet but we don't need high resolution; sometimes the app randomly chooses crap resulotion despite great connection; etc. i think there should be somewhere that we can manually pick our resolution choice and OVERRIDE the automatic responce. (On the iOS website, without the App installed, youtube has a "HD" button switch on the corner. If we had something like that in the app, it'd be perfect.)
Also, another problem that I had a while ago that made me abandon YouTube App (I'm just about to start to give it another chance right now), is that it doesn't always stay where I left it. Apple's antique youtube app, although unattractive, does a great job at keeping the app JUST as you left it.
I feel if these two issues are addressed, the reviewers would start giving it top marks (currently the app is averaging 2.5, not very great)

I found it quite stupid when you guys removed the category "Science and Technology" for "Live". Science and Technology was the only category I used and out of all the ones you replaced, you had to replace that one. I mean, what the hell is the point of adding a live category? Most people I know only watch live videos from people they're subscribed to and have a keen interest in them. Or you guys could have kept both. You will add up to 200 of my subscriptions to the sidebar, but find it necessary to remove one category for another.

The videos go blurry all the time. I know its the app bc it doesnt do it in the browser and reason ni prefer the app is bc the browser on my ipad doesnt give me a full screen when i go to fullscreen mode. I saw a cpl on here talking abt it being blurry so its not just me.

Another user here experiencing the lousy video quality on my ipad. It seems like this began several weeks ago. The videos are below 240p in quality. Very blurry, and jerky video. My Internet connection is 30Mb, so that is not the issue.

Sometimes when I'm watching videos the video gets blurry and the audio gets messed or the video would go black and all you can hear is the audio. I wonder if it's something with my or tha app it self.

The biggest annoyance I'm having with the YouTube for iOS now is the subscribed activity notification feature. Normally, a number is displayed beside the channel name in the sidebar to indicate the number of new activities for the channel (uploads, liked a video, added to a playlist, favourited, etc). Now currently, the numbers have been set since the last update and haven't changed regards of how many times I refresh the screen or close and relaunch the app. Please fix it.

This is seriously the most horrible app available on IOS. The user experience is appalling and it constantly gives me the urge to chuck my iPhone onto the ground. Imagine this, one day you are happily watching your video, and suddenly the video quality turns into what appears to be 100p, it's like a highly shortsighted man with dirty as fuq glasses trying to watch porn, IT'S UNBEARABLE!!! I do not get why are the advertisements HD and loads so quick and the video quality is so bad and loads so slow!

I used to love this app and it seemed to get better with the recent updates until 1.4.. Seems I can't install the app on a iPod 4g on iOS 5.1.1 until I update to iOS 6. I'm perfectly fine with running a older OS especially with my slower device. It seems unfair to us users who enjoy iOS 5 fine and have slower devices to be forced to update to an OS that was built around newer devices. Seems I'll have to use alternatives like other non google YouTube apps and safari until you guys decide to unrestrict access for iOS 5 users. Very disappointed I can't use this awesome app.

It's shit. The ipad app has good interface, yes, but it doesn't fucking work.
No manual override to change resolution. Resolution drops to below 240p.
And the video won't load, when it loads fine in Safari. Unless I have perfect connection.

a more applicable 'Settings' menu, such as the ability to stop the Autoplay function and the addition of the 'Repeat' button.
also the ability to 'Unlike' or 'undislike' like in the online ability.
i don't have all that many subscriptions but i don't like having every single one on the screen. perhaps put them in their own menu.
also one particular video is constantly comming up playback error, an error code or a reason for this would be nice, the video runs fine on the PC but for some reason after one or a few playbacks or if i come back to it later it just stops, i've to watch a few things then use my PC to go back to that video to update my watch list.
but on the whole i really like it. but i didn't see if there where any videos being played in HD or not. nor anything in the obvious that says if they are by default or not.

I would love to have the ability to sort my channels/subscription list on my iPad. Currently they are a mess and I can't tell where any channel is. Ideally we can rearrange either manually and/or by a filter, I.e. alphabetically or by day added.

This app is getting infuriatingly annoying. Videos will not load, or play without constant buffering. I have a 30mb connection. YouTube makes millions in ad revenue and can't hire some people to get this working correctly?????? Wtf!? The original app worked just fine before apple and YT screwed it up.
