What happened to the grid view under subscriptions?

What happened to the grid view under subscriptions? ChadBOmenSign 3/6/13 3:59 PM
I have 27 inches of beautiful monitor space that now has over half of it devoted to a pure white screen of nothing when I click on 'subscriptions'.  Five videos are listed on the left and continue down.

What happened to the grid view? This is an incredibly inefficient waste of space and is extremely detrimental to my ( and I assume others ) viewing habits.

Oh, so it's not just me. Allow me to add my hatred for this new layout. It's terrible.

Same, and i have a ton of subscriptions (yep i'm a virtual horder) and they don't all show up in the little side bar thingy...

very strange that they would make a change that is so buggy, well not that strange when i think about it.

bookmarked!
Re: What happened to the grid view under subscriptions? SRFGaming 3/6/13 7:45 PM
If they remove this feature, i'm done.
I refuse to scroll through a single column of endless videos searching for one to watch. Then have to repeat it all over again when i'm done.

Youtube really wants to destroy my viewing experience.

But hey, maybe it's a good thing. It'll save me a few hours every day, cause I won't be wasting my time on youtube anymore.

Re: What happened to the grid view under subscriptions? ChadBOmenSign 3/6/13 7:55 PM
The worst thing about it is that in the old grid view you could easily tell videos you've watched, because they wouldn't be there.  Now, in the column, they're marked 'grey', but that goes and the video remains.  So then you end up watching stuff you've already seen or lose videos in the mess of scrolling up and down.

Geeze.. Youtube!? Hello!?  Anyone listening!?

I can't watch your crap advertisements if I can't consume videos efficiently.

A work around.

For Users of Firefox (probably Chrome as well)
I use the Super Start add-on and have it set to open as my launch page in Firefox. In Super Start I have my most frequented sites saved on this page.

One of those links is the URL that is the GOOD subscription page and it loads up fine (for now)

But as we now know, when we click on our subscriptions tab in YOUTUBE it takes us to that AWFUL long, hand cramping, feed page.

There is an Add on for Firefox called "open link in new tab"
Basically when you install this, you only have to launch your GOOD subscription feed page ONCE to leave it open in a tab.

And with this "open link in new tab add on" all your your videos will launch in a new tab without having to interface with that AWFUL subscription layout.

If you do install the add-on "open link in new tab" for Firefox, you'll need to go to the add-ons page in Firefox's "tools" tab. And adjust its options to "lvl 2" that way it will open the links in a new tab properly.

And to get new videos in your "always open" tab for your GOOD subscription feed link, http://www.youtube.com/my_subscriptions?feature=mhee

just refresh that page.

This is the best work around I can come up with for now.

GOOGLE, let us have the option to choose!

And if you bring down that old subscription page, I am going to set up an RSS feed program. And if you stop RSS feeds, then I'm going to promote some other video site.

I know A LOT of video producers who are going to migrate to other sites if you make it to easy for their feeds to GET LOST in your RIDICULOUSLY LONG Subscription page feeds.

Listen to your User base, this is a BAD change guys.

Re: What happened to the grid view under subscriptions? Donitz 3/6/13 9:27 PM
This exactly!

Why are you trying to ruin the YouTube experience in favor of vertical partially loaded lists of items. I already though it was an awful idea with the commenting system, but at least there it didn't cause too much pain. But you already had a perfectly fine working system with subscriptions and there was ZERO reason or need to change it.

Thanks that link works and brings up the old grid format but please can I ask a stupid question ? To prevent the "list" showing up instead of the "grid" where and how do I actually remove the feed for myself ? I see no options anywhere to do this.
Re: What happened to the grid view under subscriptions? ChickenC3 3/7/13 7:44 AM
How many times do they have to try this and piss off the userbase before they realize that this is a terrible idea?...

thank you SO much.

YOUTUBE.
STOP.
IT'S OK.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO KEEP CHANGING FOR US.

Re: What happened to the grid view under subscriptions? TheWBT 3/7/13 12:40 PM
Like someone else said if they remove grid subscriptions i'm done. I will not waste hours of my life battling through list view.

I used to use youtube to find and listen to all the new music I was into. Then they took away to option to search "Top Rated" or "Most viewed" in certain catagories (ahemn music) and took with it the option to pick "Daily", "Weekly", "Monthly" or "Yearly". I now have to find artists outside of youtube (i'm spending less time here and watching less videos - well done driving me away) and sub to them to keep up with them.

Let me make this clear. The only reason I still use an account on youtube is because I can use subscriptions easily and effectivly to search through new music. If my ability to do this is taken away again (and even more than it already has) by making it more difficult to see my subs because i'm forced to use list view instead of the much better grid I will no longer waste my time trying.

Whatever reason you keep doing this youtube devs. Just stop. Please. Why won't you let me use your service? I'm trying really hard. I wan't to use youtube. Why are you making it harder every day?

Yes, getting the list view really sucks! Please give us the grid view back YT !

If they wanted to make a smartphone viewing mode they would make it so it only activates when the user is on a smartphone... You are clearly correct they are trying to annoy the user base as much as possible.  I can't imagine why though...

What has to happen for this stupidity to be corrected?

Probably the firing of the entire current design team and starting over. That should correct it. Meanwhile, until the idiots kill the link, bookmark this URL: http://www.youtube.com/my_subscriptions

Google, you really need to stop "fixing" Youtube because frankly nothing you have done has improved it and has in fact had the opposite effect. There is a reason why most people that knew better used the grid rather than the vertical single list mode. CHAGNE IT BACK! ALSO stop hiring ENGINEERS to do DESIGN work. They don't know what they are DOING!

Re: What happened to the grid view under subscriptions? Spit29 8/15/13 12:53 PM
Damn youtube.  Bring back the Grid view!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: What happened to the grid view under subscriptions? Feydakin 8/15/13 1:31 PM
I have found a somewhat fix for it via a Greasemonkey script for Firefox. All it does is make your subscriptions appear in two columns instead of one. Not perfect but still better than the single, vertical column and "recommendations".

Script: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/170162

No idea if there is anything like it for Google. I will keep looking.

Re: What happened to the grid view under subscriptions? SoullessSpirit 8/15/13 4:23 PM
Hey Google: with this latest change you have completely destroyed the site. you are forcing users to seek out other means to restore what should not have been taken away. the greasemonkey script that was posted does help alleviate the mind-numbing madness you've induced and actually makes use of page space that you cannot. another script i would recommend is YouTube Center, that script helps alot with watching videos and CENTERING the watch page. honestly if you cannot grasp the basics of web design you have no business designing any kind of web site.

If you have Chrome:
It is not perfect or finished yet, but it is still better than the actual layout (I will update in improve soon).
