Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? spike1608 5/28/09 1:23 PM
I was watching some youtube videos today when suddenly I've stopped being able to watch any!

I've tried different web browsers and signing out of my account and nothing works.

The only time I am able to watch videos again is when I change my IP address via the application Hotspot Shield, however this is a major inconvenience.

How is this solved? Are there any google technical staff that can fix this issue?
Can my IP address have been blocked? If so why? I haven't done anything illegal, nor have I done anything to break the youtube user agreement.

Please Help!
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? YtVigilantes 5/28/09 1:34 PM
Have you tried clearing your cache and cookies in your browser settings?  I've never known YouTube to block IP's, but your ISP may have some issues with it (although I've not heard of that before).  I've had this issue before, but only occasionally.

I noticed last night that YouTube was having some load difficulties and got that error a few times.  It did resolve on my end, though.

Another possibility is if you're behind a firewall or are using internet security beyond virus and spam filters.  Sometimes a firewall will interfere with flash embeds.  If clearing cache and cookies doesn't work, try turning off some of the extra security functions.  Zone Alarm, while a great firewall, is no norious for blocking any kind of mobile code when a person sets high security settings in advanced mode and doesn't know what they're doing.

We've also been pranked via firewalls before, where someone turned on parental controls that came with a member's firewall, blocking nearly everything that had any kind of social networking.
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? fshaf 5/28/09 1:35 PM
I get the same error message. Is YouTube crashing under load?
At first I thought it was the new version of Chrome that was causing all sorts of weirdness, but apparently I get the same message when I try with Firefox.
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? Niece 5/28/09 1:40 PM
I have reloaded the player, rebooted, turned off firewall and still can't watch videos. :(
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? fshaf 5/28/09 1:42 PM
The only thing that has changed recently is an automatic upgrade to Chrome, and who knows what at my ISP end. I had experienced the same error messages before, but a page refresh normally solved that. But not this time.

I just tried a different computer on my network, and same error message. Perhaps it is an IP block, or some bastardly thing my cable provider is doing.
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? fshaf 5/28/09 1:44 PM
BTW, I'm on Rogers Cable, in Toronto, Canada. <--- if that helps.
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? newsie_chick1899 5/28/09 1:47 PM
I am also on Rogers in Toronto, Canada and I am experiencing the same problem. I re-installed the flash player, i switched computers with the same internet. I checked the firewall. I did everything possible and the thing still won't play any videos at all. Not one single video on this site works and it is driving me insane!
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? ObsessedBrawlGuy 5/28/09 1:50 PM
I myself am getting this problem. I have every update to man, and my PC has never had this issue. Perhaps some coding is amiss?
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? Puppet_Doctor 5/28/09 1:51 PM
I am also using Rogers and earlier today I was watching Youtube videos and then suddenly my internet disconnected since then I have been getting the same error message that I can't watch videos. I installed Firefox and I can't watch videos on that and I rebooted my computer also.
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? Casobs 5/28/09 1:56 PM
I am getting the same thing.  I was able to watch this morning, now all I get is "error occurred."  I am also on Rogers in Ottawa.  I have dont everything:
Rebooted
Cleared cache
reloaded
different computer

I never had this issue before!  Anyone have a solution?
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? cms13ca 5/28/09 1:57 PM
I have the same problem, Rogers in Waterloo Region. Uninstalling/reinstalling Flash player does fix it. Nor does deleting cookies/cache. Firewall should not be a problem.

I would say the problem is with YouTube/Google and incorrect coding.
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? YtVigilantes 5/28/09 1:57 PM
Looking at the number of people replying with this problem who use the same ISP, I would suggest you contact your ISP.  It appears your ISP is having some issues right now.  It could be an inadvertent site block, flash issues, and any number of other problems.
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? AcidicLinguist 5/28/09 1:59 PM
Wow, this is clearly a Rogers thing.

I'm also in Toronto, Ontario, and have Rogers. Youtube was working till about 11 am, and now it's messed up.

Maybe we should all call Rogers in unison, and just bitch em out. Haha
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? Puppet_Doctor 5/28/09 2:01 PM
Yes, I think that bitching at Rogers would be fun. I could connect up until about 3pm EST or something around there.
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? ObsessedBrawlGuy 5/28/09 2:01 PM
I have checked other web sites using  links from youtube to other sites and still the same problem on my end. My friend also is experiencing this issue on bis end so it is to no surprise this is not a fluke per say.
My location is Canada,

I am also having the same problem, I tried to watch youtube on both my Mac and Windows desktop and get the same error message.

I am in Ottawa, Ontario and also using Rogers. I tried to reboot, clear cookie, cache...
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? Casobs 5/28/09 2:05 PM
Issue: Rogers Internet is doing something to the coding on Youtube...

Focused in Ontario mostly...

I would call Rogers Internet to see if there really is something they can do...

Well that makes some sense...wait it out i am guessing x.x we shouldn't have to wait but if that's how it is. Also Opera, firefox, IE, do the same thing.

Sorry but the only people who can fix it is Rogers -_-. And I wish that they would seriously fix the issue soon.

It'd be nice if some tech support came on here and addressed this for us. I'm in New Brunswick, on Rogers, and same thing.
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? AcidicLinguist 5/28/09 2:20 PM
Okay guys, listen up. We're all having the same problem, and nothing is getting done. This is the plan:

At 5:45 EST, everyone should call, all at once, and state the issue to a tech person with Rogers Canada. If they give you a runaround, which they will, threaten to switch your service to Bell, and state any past problems you have had with Rogers that have disrupted your service.

This'll show them we actually care, and won't take bullshit.

Do it!
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? Casobs 5/28/09 2:21 PM
Well, Im on the phone with them right now.... Its Rogers for sure, based on all the replies!
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? Puppet_Doctor 5/28/09 2:22 PM
Yeah, Acid that is a good plan (no sarcasm intended) and at this point I am seriously thinking of switching providers ONLY because Rogers has become less relaible lately. And now they take away Youtube blah.

Alright guys, it's clearly a Rogers block. Let's start the calling process. Everyone get on the phone, let's do this.

Anyone who gets any answers from them, please post them up for the rest of the poor bastards with Rogers with the same issue.

Is it only Canadian people with Rogers at their internet provider who's having problems? I fit this description too, and my videos are also not working. It'd be nice to hear what those Rogers people have to say about this.
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? fshaf 5/28/09 2:31 PM
I just got off the phone with tech support. He seemed to be able to watch YouTube fine.

I pointed him to this discussion thread, and told him people would be coming home from work soon and wouldn't be long before calls flooded in.

More people need to call in for them to place high priority on this matter.

I'm not sure what ISP I'm on right now, as I am visiting people, but, I never stopped to think that rogers "does" own lots of ISP's XD.......well, in that case, it's the same problem as everyone else...it's rogers fault :O

Rogers owns tons of shit, lol.

Yeah, Fshaf, thanks for the input.

Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? OneWorld 5/28/09 2:40 PM
I am in Toronto, Ontario, Canada using Rogers Hi-Speed Express.
And every video I try to view has this error message: "An error occurred, please try again later."
And it does not change when I refresh, clear all cache, data, etc, or when I use different browsers.
But why do you all think this is a Rogers problem? Everything else on the internet is working fine. It is just YouTube that is not working!!!
Isn't this a YouTube problem?

Please help me anyone!
Thank you.

Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? Puppet_Doctor 5/28/09 2:42 PM
OneWorld it is an issue with Rogers since people from other ISPs i.e. Bell and other countries can still watch Youtube. I was trying to watch a video from Playstation and there was comments posted recently since its a popular video meaning people are watching Youtube fine. So this has to do with Rogers.

Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? Casobs 5/28/09 2:50 PM
So Ive talked with Technical Support.  He has apparently checked everything from his end.  The problem is that all rogers does is provide internet access.  Ive told him about that everyone who is having an issue is a Rogers customer, but he wont be able to tell where the fault is: is it with them, us, whatever.  We checked other video sites and they are working, so this issue seems to be specific to youtube.  More than likely it has something to do with the coding in their site and the IPs here.  there might be an error with that.  I tried to push the issue, he just wont be able to tell what the issue is.  If there was some way to talk to technical support with youtube, and he tried to find that contact, that would be or best chance, because they are incharge of the coding.  All Rogers does is give us access, which we are able to do, just not watch videos.

Hopfully that help people understand a little bit better.
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? Sum 5/28/09 2:53 PM
I'm on with Rogers live chat tech support. Here is his latest comment:

I will definately investigate but the fact that some people are experiencing this issue being on our network does not necessarily mean the issue is the network itself. the issue could be the website blocking rogers IP addresses because rogers does nto have any such capability to block anything

P.S. I have Rogers in Ottawa.

Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? fshaf 5/28/09 4:04 PM
Yup, it's working again!

I think, and I'm not entirely sure, that one of Google's cache servers (ie. default.v7.lscache1.l.google.com) was not functioning. Perhaps it was a geographical thing, that affected Rogers subscribers. It seems the videos are now coming directly from www.youtube.com, instead of the cache servers.

My computer crashed a bunch of times while trying to diagnose the problem on my end, so I can't be entirely sure that it's a caching server problem. I wasn't able to rule out Roger's DNS service that hijacks all failed DNS resolutions.

Well i live in Bermuda (even though i am Canadian LOL), and i have been having this problem for awhile now. It is very frustrating, cause it happened all of a sudden. I never had any problem, and don't recall changing anything. I have now tried different browsers, downloaded the new Flash player, and cleared all my cache, and it still won't work. Actually it work once right after i cleared my cache and now it work for the second one.

Weird!!! It is almost like YouTube has done something different. Anyone have any answers???

I checked with my daughter her computer is just downstairs from mine and she gets youtube with no problem. it is on the same dsl as mine the only difference is mine is a new laptop and hers is a 5 year old hp desktop. Wish someone from youtube would at least let us know if they are working on the problem because I think it is on their end not ours or our providers.

HAVE THE ANSWER:
OK for those are getting this message, you are either trying set up your videos on an external site like MySpace or your personal website, otherwise i can not help you, but if you are, here is the gliche...

For those creating custom players where only your videos play, well first you want to be sure all videos you are using for this are set to public, then when creating playlists in order to do those custom players, well they have to be set to public as well, other wise you get the MONKEY ERROR: "An Error Message Has Occured, Please try again Later?

I just tried changing all my private vids to public and they work no prob, but, I dont want them public, thats why they are set to private. As soon as I change the setting back to private the video is no longer avail. Its definitly a YT prob!
Do I have to re-upload my private vids again so they can be viewed? whats up with that!?

Hard wire connection here (Comcast) - have to check but think it's 10mb/1mb - we're not on the new super speed yet anyway. I downloaded the bulk uploader to try it to see as people were saying try all three and none worked. I never have uploaded more then one video at once. Open to any suggestions though - tried the cache/cookie delete thing last night with no success. Guess next is to try the "retry" `25-30 times... :(

this problem has been bugging me for days now. it started as only some videos wouldn't load, until a few days ago, every youtube vid said "an error occurred, please try again later." As with most of you, dailymotion, tangle, and others worked. I have been searching high and low for solutions and I think it's different for everybody. For some, it's flash, for others it's java, then there's browser settings, firewalls, antivirus, and several other options. I've tried them all. Since it's different for everyone, I don't know if this will work for you, but here's what finally solved it for me:

My issue was my Internet filter. I have Clean Internet. When you install it, it by default blocks all media sharing. You have to unblock them manually if you are the administrator, which I am. I'm ok with only having YouTube and one or two others. Most stuff is junk anyway. Anyway, I unblocked YouTube months ago and it always worked (except 18+ videos, obviously). But I never unblocked Googlevideo.com (for some reason google.com/video worked and maybe that was the conflict). When I use Firefox (normally I use Chrome), you can see on the the left side bottom bar what the browser is going through the load the video. It goes through googlevideo.com cache or something to load Youtube vids. I don't know if that's new or always the case. So I unblocked access to googlevideo.com, and now it works. hope that helps at least someone out there!

If you have tried all the above suggestions, and you are still getting the error message, then try downloading the video using YouTube Downloader.
Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? Ubuntu-Linux-OS 6/14/09 9:14 PM
The problem has to do with new throttling done by your ISP. To circumvent this obsticle I suggest you download Linux, Ubuntu preferably. The throttling only affects Windows/ Mac users.

Re: Why do I constantly get the message "An error has occured, please try again later"? chummy 6/17/09 5:39 PM
We live in Wisconsin and we're getting the same message for the last several days.  It's getting to be a real annoyance.

It's not Flash Player.  It's not browser dependent.  It's not one's computer.  It's not the ISP.  It's not the cache.  Some of the same videos that at one moment are unavailable sooner or later -- usually much later -- become viewable, but for a time before they again show this latest YouTube excuse.   And reloading, reinstalling FP, most of the other "fixes" do not fix the problem.  ALL other videos that are Flash Player based and are presented on other sites are viewable without a hitch.

Judging by the widespread reports of this, just maybe it's a YouTube glitch?

"I've dowloaded the Flash Player multipile times, restarted my computer, cleared the cache and cookies, and it still won't work." Sound like your perdicament? Then you need HELP! Lame I know but I couldn't resist :P

Ok. This may make a lot of people a wee bit angry because it's so simple (in some cases). In my case, I use Symantec Anti-Virus/Firewall etc. I went into the settings, turned off my Ad Blocker and tried to watch a video that I KNOW I had not been able to watch beforehand, and it WORKED! Yay!

So basically, give it a go, or for some anti-virus programs, or even firewalls, either turn off your Ad Blocker or reduce the security setting on it. Don't waste your download allowance re-downloading things, this tip may just work for you ;)

I am getting the same problem, all videos get that stupid error occurred, please try later.

In Scotland using Zen Internet and using FF3.5, it also doesnt work on IE8, I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash a few times to no avail, cleared cache, cookies, history, nearly everything you can clear from a browser and still no workie, so it isnt just a rogers canada problem.

This happened just 2/3 days ago, everything was fine and then BAM, no youtube videos will work, however that being said, if the video has an option for HD or HQ, if the video doesnt work normally, pushing the HD or HQ button will make the video play, so I think that its only normal quality videos that are affected.

To the people from Turkey ... as far as your government blocked the access to YouTube after this news:
http://arsiv.ntvmsnbc.com/news/401979.asp
Maybe old news ... however, if you're getting the "an error occured" message in the black player then check if you have any ad-blockers running as these are more and more in common with this error. But mostlikely your Adobe Flash Player is broken and you need to uninstall it and download/install it completely new again.

And well - found the problem for me...was  Zone Alarm.

It seems that if you have parental controls - you tube seems to now fall under the "Hacking / Proxy Avoidance Systems"  -  Just go in and un-check it and see if that works ...as personally - I wanted to leave on the parental controls for other sites...

Similar issue here in Seattle. When I create a playlist to what a whole tv show, having part 1-part 2 part-3 as such, parts-segments .  With "PlayAll"  playlist checked, some video end and next video starts, error occurs.  Mainly when next video starts, the screen  goes shaded and an "error occurred, try back later"shows on screen. after reloading video, some of the problemed transitions videos play fine, but other parts of the video then have an "error courred try back later."  Frustrating for me, as I like to do paper work while watching a show. It becomes annoying to me that I keep having to go back to computer, reload and check "playall again", being about every 10 minutes.  aaaaaahhh

I had the same problem with my wireless laptop and after MONTHS of trying to find a fix I found it! Heres
what I did.

1. Go to http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

2. Download and run.

3. Restart and open internet explorer. Go to youtube
and watch 4 or 5 videos to make sure its fixed. It has something to do with winsock in xp.

This is for troubles with youtube while running wireless only. I dont know if it
will work on ehternet connected PC/Laptops

I finally figured out!!!!
If it's  firefox, go to the options. (I haven't tried the Explorer but it has to be the same problem)

Options ---> Advanced ---> Network ---> Connection Settings
I had my proxy as Manual configuration, and changed to "No proxy"
and it worked.

Just to make sure I changed it back to Manual proxy, and then I couldn't view the youtube again.
Flipped back again to "No proxy" and it works!

Let me know if this works for everyone!

i have a similiar problem (and i am in nebraska) when i am on youtube videos play fine but the player i have linked to my jtv profile page to play favs has that error message.. also, channel viewer count hasnt updated in about 36 hrs..i was on 5 different IPs today and went in and also i had people who subscribed and left comments but the channel has still not changed since yesterday. Also since they changed the videos and playlists buttons, i cant edit playlists (the playlists are incomplete) and some videos that i added to playlists would be there then you go back and they disappeared. It has nothing to do with your server or computer, for sure youtube did something in their lastest ""improvements""" that screwed this all up. No use in wasting you time fiddling with it..YouTube needs tech support as it apparently isnt doing any good to report these problems...i did this morning and nothing appears to have been addressed.

YouTube Error Message PROBLEM SOLVED! A few days ago I started getting the YouTube error message that an error occurred, please try again later. I had been running BOTH Widows Firewall and Webroot Firewall for months. I decided to disingage Windows Firewall and voila! YouTube Videos load again! Evidently some updates to one or the other or both Firewall Programs caused the problem. Try this solution! You'll like it!

I'm in Thailand and started getting this same message three days ago. Nothing has helped: clear cookies, clear cache, clear history, etc. I even downloaded Chrome to see if that would work. Nope, same error message. Happens on every machine on the home LAN.

Oddly, my wife's iPod Touch can access YouTube just fine from our LAN.

But, today I discovered that if I use a US based proxy server, the error goes away. I guess that means that either my Thai ISP or the Thai government is somehow interfering with YouTube. The site is not blocked, just the video stream.

Hey peeps, I'm from Singapore. I'm getting the same problem as everyone is having here, and it is really stressing me out. I'm an avid lover of youtube, and one day, while I was watching a youtube video, it just, crashed down, and this stupid error message came out.

From that day on, I have been unable to watch ANY VIDEOS from ANY WEBSITES - which really kills me - and I am unable to enter facebook, blogger, etc.

The really weird thing is this - everytime if I go Googling or Yahooing for ANYTHING with the WORD "VIDEO" in the search, my whole page turns blank and says "Internet Connection Problem" and a whole bunch of crap.

I know it sounds really out - of - the - world, but this happened. I tried a million ways - adobe flash player re-installing (I REALLY REINSTALLED LIKE TEN TIMES ALREADY), and stuff like clearing my cache, every possible method stated at the ends of the world, but nothing happened. The problem persisted.

Last year, I had a working computer. And before it truly crashed down, the same thing happened. I can understand why it would crash down since it was, like, a ten year old computer, but for this laptop, it's pretty new, although it's a pretty old model (Fine, a VERY old model), but it's quite new and didn't give me any problems before.

It really irritates me. I've been to a hundred websites but nobody ever stated having the same critical problem. They only had problem with Youtube videos but never from other websites, but for me, I can't watch a SINGLE video from ANY websites. It's really really stressing.

My school has this sort of e-learning stuff where the teachers just post youtube videos and (some websites) then you go watch and learn and that will be your chapter's lesson. It's really critical and some teachers won't bother going through the lessons anymore since they are "taught online", ESPECIALLY VIA YOUTUBE VIDEOS, so a working website is TOO important!

Please people, tell me what I can do! I tried going to a lot of websites to seek help and tried every possible method but NONE worked! Can someone give me really helpful suggestions? - I'm pretty broke and don't really have the money to but a new computer, and I doubt my computer's the really problem cause it only has problems with a few websites!

Any help would be appreciated. I would thank you guys and girls in advance first.

I got the same message 'an error has occurred....' for over two weeks and eventually found that if I click on the grey arrow on top right hand corner of viewing window a new viewing window automatically opened which I could view through - so could not solve the problem but can easily go around it...good luck

Earthheart777 ,  I was using that to  get mine to work but yesterday the appearance of all controls changed and that button is no longer available to me.  As this is April 1 i'm guessing others have experienced that as well.   April Fool's Day  a bad day to make these changes, lol.

Hey, I'm from Singapore as well, and I can't watch the videos too!! It's driving me INSANE. I thought I'm the only one facing this problems as my friends don't.
Well, can anyone suggest what we can do to solve this?
I've got the latest version of Adobe Flash, I've emptied my cache and I've tried removing the cookies, NOTHING SOLVED IT. I'm using Safari. HELP! Could it be Youtube?

this is what I experienced:  When I tried to view the video by clicking on it from the YT main page, I got the error message, but when I clicked on the channel that the video belongs to, I am able to view it on the channel page.  I've tried this on a few different video from their respective channels.  It might work for you too, although I am still at a lost at why I suddenly started getting these error messages a few weeks ago.
