It's strange that You Tube one of the leading Video has problems for many users with replete error message as below
While other forums discusses that problem probably due to Flash & Java Player, the same has not resolved problems for many . The problems continues to persists forever. This definitely is a problem with you tube than any other Video playing site.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||BattlefieldDoktor||7/27/09 5:55 AM|
If this error occurs at single videos only then feel free to provide the link and YouTube is going to take a look about the video.
If you experience this error at a lot or all videos then the problem is on your machine. The reason can be advertisement blockers and bad coded Firefox plugins but mostlikely the Adobe Flash Player is broken. Check the following article of the Help Center of the "Video Player Issues" section for further help regarding your Flash Player.

|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||Crashdance22||8/23/09 1:24 PM|
This is because the video servers are very slow right now. If the player doesn't receive a video stream within a certain amount of time, it assumes server performance is temporarily bad and rejects the video download request. This is why it says "please try again later", because slowdowns like these are usually temporary.

Guys guys guys...
I dont know whether or not it makes sense to you but I was facing the same problem when I was accessing youtube videos. It was our company's firewall which had an exclusion list setup for flash based content. Removed the policy and its working absolutely fine. It has got nothing to do with Youtube servers being slow or anything. I would rather suggest you guys check your firewalls, proxyservers to help resolve the issue.
Hope that helps..!!
All the best!!

Same old suggestions...that go nowhere. I did all the flash, adobe, xp, ff browser changes, and upgrades, cleared memory of cookies/cache...but still out in a raft. Is there any other place similar to youtube yet?

add &fmt=18 at the end of the video. it will work :)
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||SleepiB||10/17/09 9:10 PM|
I'm having the same issue with one of my videos, it is NOT a firewall or browser issues(this machine is in a DMZ, and I've tried multiple browsers), and it is limited to a small number of videos.
"An error occurred, please try again later."
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||SleepiB||10/18/09 12:33 AM|
and now it's working again.

|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||aordwaya||10/28/09 10:56 PM|
I believe it has something to do with my wireless connection. When I plug my laptop directly into the modem it never has this problem. When I am running on wireless I can watch 3 or 4 videos and then the error message shows up. Sometimes clearing my cache helps and then sometimes I have to restart my laptop to fix it. I did go a period without this happening but then it started acting up again. I did not make any changes to my internet connection so Im stumped! I have even tried turning my firewall off and that dosent help at all.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||Raven_086||11/1/09 5:08 AM|
Yep I also started getting this error randomly on certain videos, I'm using a wireless 11g connection connected to ADSL (1.5mb) internet connection. The wireless connection is currently hovering around 90-95% signal.
Don't really have any issue watching videos from other sites, just the random youtube errors. Last place I encountered it was here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCGpAQNirt4.
I tried accessing the video on both Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.5.4 and get the same message.
My friend whose using a hard wired connection to ADSL (1.5 mb) is also encountering the issue randomly.
Hope this helps....

I got a call that someone could not view one of my videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yERa5PrZ6fw because of the lovely "an error occurred please try again later". My machine is correct and perfect and I connect using FIOS but I received the same error ONLY for this video. Switching to "HQ" allowed me to play this video. I rendered this video a little differently in Vegas because I had a long chain of plug-ins to correct bad lighting and audio. Maybe this is an artifact of the type of encoding? If the problem persists I will re-render the video as pure clean HD and report back.

It's not my servers because only a select few videos do not play. All the rest of the videos I watch play as expected.

Getting the same error and there's nothing we can do, it's an error on YouTube's servers. Why doesn't YouTube have a proper place for everyone to see the current updates or errors on the site? &fmt=18 at the end of URL seems to be working for me for me in the mean time.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||naboba||11/1/09 5:42 PM|
well I am glad it's not a serious problem then. I'm sure youtube will fix it soon , probably just some error with the player .

|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||intezam||11/1/09 5:47 PM|
I am having this problem since about a week on 20% of videos I try to watch. Sometimes refreshing the page will make the video play but there are some cases when the video woill not play no matter what I do. It's definitely not something on my computer because I checked those videos from different mashines.I am also getting server errors sometimes (today at about 20:00 pm CET) I hope youtube can figure out how to solve this bug because it really sucks.

I'm having this problem with random videos as well. The videos don't seem to recover from the error, but other videos have no error at all.
Adding &fmt=18 to the end of the URL seems to be helping it, but I don't like watching the higher quality videos, because it runs slowly sometimes (it'll get choppy).

Same issue with video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udkaq7odKJo link. This video was playing fine till yesterday. Today, I have been seeing "An error occurred, please try again later" for many videos. Some of them are working now,but not all of them. Adding &fmt=18 to the end of the URL seems to help. I am using Chrome 188.8.131.52 on Win XP with no extension etc, hence not sure what exactly is broken.

|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||Skytroop||11/1/09 11:54 PM|
Well another popular website known as youtube is now useless to me. Improvements no doubt have buggered it beyond all imagination.
Funny that the onus is placed on the end user to upgrade his system and spend hours uninstalling and reinstalling software, drivers, etc.
Funny that so many people have jumped through the hoops that tech support has provided only to find the problem persists.
Funny it started so recently.
Funny, It seems to me this is Youtube's problem.
Thanks for the run around.

Now that's what I call a big p*ussies. So many people have the same problem, and there is no even a little response from YouTube!
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||benwalker||11/2/09 4:46 AM|
Same problem here - two of my videos work, but the other two have errors: if it's 50% of the whole of youtube, i'd be worried right about now...
Judging by the frequency of complaints, I'm guessing something happened recently??
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||Karina001||11/2/09 4:57 AM|
The funny thing in my case, is that the video that I tried to play that had this error, played when I unclicked the HQ button. So I can play it in normal mode but not in HQ, even though the settings for my account are set to "always play in HQ when available".
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||Silencewritten||11/2/09 5:15 AM|
Same problem as most people here. One of my videos in particular won't play, I just get the same "Error" Message when I press play. It was fine a few days ago, and now it's suddenly stopped working.
I've been watching other people's videos, and the same thing happens. 1 out 4 videos get an "error" messge, and no matter what I do, neither me or my friends can play them.
They've just stopped working - just like that!
Youtube can't be turning a blind eye to this. It's happening to almost everyone.
FIX IT YOUTUBE, PLEASE! D: I'm so frustrated, I thought the problem would have been fixed by now, but it's been going on for days!

|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||Jeff Head||11/2/09 7:44 AM|
I have been getting the same "Error occurred, please try again later," message on my video::
This video worked fine until this suddenly started happening in the early AM of November 1st.
It's not a browser issue, it's not a flash player issue, it's not a pop-up issue, an dit's not a firewall issue.
Adding &fmt=18 to the end of the URL works
...but most people receiving emails and seeing forum messages to watch my video do not know this little work around. And they are getting frustrated and simply not watching. I am receiving numerous emails asking about this issue myself, asking my why my video is not working when so many people have told others to watch it.
Please youtube, get on this and fix it! Has it happened before? I am presuming it has because you have this inocuous error message for it. How was it fixed then?
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||luketa||11/2/09 7:44 AM|
Same problem. The single video stopped working on many different machines. Adding "&fmt=18" makes it work, however, obviously that doesn't help much for all the websites it has been embedded in or linked from.
Curiously, somebody copied the video to, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flNpemMt1Lc which also stopped working now. I'm not sure if that is significant, but I hope this problem goes away. And if It can't go away, I would like to know that too.

Despite YouTube's phone number, there are several thousands of videos that doesn't have the HQ button. But they don't have the message while they're playing in normal quality.
I hope YouTube will go under maintenance soon.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||portiaruthie19||11/2/09 10:23 AM|
This problem is obviously very real and it deserves a response from someone at YouTube so we at least know they are looking into it. This message appears on random videos but there has to be some reason for it and whether it's a Flash issue or a YouTube issue, since it's on a YouTube site it's their responsibility to find out what the heck is causing it and then give the customers a solution. I've never seen such horrible customer service in my life. For a huge mega million dollar site, you'd think they'd be able to afford some tech help for their rather lame forums. Either way, this problem is annoying to likely millions of people even if they don't all stop and report it, so do something about it. Thank you.

|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||HardWired||12/1/09 10:12 PM|
Im having the same issue and my guess is that its being caused by one of the rendering engines that is responsible for the rendering of "Standard" def video pages, my video was working but only while it was "still being rendered" and as soon as it had finished rendering it just hit the wall and this error appeared.
After checking through the logs and reviewing the page specific code (and load errors) for a heap of different videos that are getting this error, it appears that the one thing they have in common (across all my browsers inc; Safari, firefox, IE8...) is that the "Videoplayback" portion of the site code is being generated by the same LScache server (lscache5.c.youtube.com)

YouTube Error Solution: I was running two Firewall programs, Windows Firewall and Webroot for months with no problems. Jan 1, 2010, I began to get the error message to try again later. I disingaged Windows Firewall (because I don't really need two) and YouTube worked fine. Try it! You'll like it! I think the problem accrues from some current updates to Firewall programs, especially Windows Firewall. I truly don't believe the problem is with YouTube. At any rate, I'm enjoying viewing YouTube videos again.

SOLUTION: PROBLEM SEEMS SOLVED BY SETTING THE VIDEO OR PLAYLIST USED TO "PUBLIC"!
For the first time I encountered this issue creating a custom video player for my website. I've created others and this never happened. I simply changed one thing after another that was involved with the playlist I used in this new player and noticed it was set to private (as I set most of my experimental playlists or those "under construction"). When I changed the playlist to public that did the trick -- no more "an error occurred" message.

Add me to this growing list of YouTube'ers angry over the "An error occurred, please try again later". The 1st video I uploaded several months ago stopped appearing after about a week. It didn't matter if I used IE or Safari, a PC or a Mac. In frustration I deleted it and uploaded it again from my iMovie - it worked. I now have 4 videos on YouTube and 2 have suddenly stopped working including the one I re-uploaded before. Very annoying! Very frustrating!

I have the same problem too! >_> I can't open videos in firefox but at least it does in IE.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||alfrediscool||3/12/10 9:41 PM|
ever since the update i have been unable to watch any videos. i have the newest version of fire fox, flash has been updated and cookies cleared and so far nothing has worked
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||ambarabà||3/13/10 7:26 AM|
Deleting only the cookie VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE and then refreshing the page, get it to work for me, as shown in the image below
this is just a temporary patch, NOT the final solution...btw hope it helps

Got the same problem after years of using. Tried uninstalling Adobe etc.Still more frustration. Then RESULT. All I did was click the icon on top right to "Watch this video video in new window" and it played no problems. Hope this helps at least one person.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||mechanesthesia||3/14/10 8:43 AM|
I have this message for EVERY VIDEO. It only works if I'm watching the video as a channel or embedded. If I go to the video page itself, it doesn't work.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||danni-bear||3/14/10 1:20 PM|
I noticed that the videos from the people i subscribed to are the only ones getting this message. It's been a couple of days now that i've been getting the error message.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||glamourmansk||3/14/10 3:49 PM|
I get the message for almost half of the videos I try to play. Reinstalling Flash player doesn't help; "trying later" doesn't help. Google used to be good, but they are starting to suck. Does anyone know how to email them? There is nothing at the Help Centre regarding the problem, there is no support team where I can email for issues.
Some videos are, unfortunately, hosted on YouTube only.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||jwusenet||3/14/10 4:00 PM|
> Deleting only the cookie VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE and then refreshing the page, get it to work for mesame here! thx. for the tip! (just, the damn thingy reappears for any other [related] video I click on)
YouTube should fix this ASAP!
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||jwusenet||3/14/10 4:03 PM|
> All I did was click the icon on top right to "Watch this video video in new window" and it played no problems.yes, this is the other way to make it work, thx.
one more way is to look at the UPLOADS of the uploader, locate the video, and run the video from there
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||jwusenet||3/14/10 4:08 PM|
> It only works if I'm watching the video as a channel or embedded or embedded
probably the same idea, re looking at the UPLOADS of the uploader and watching the video from there
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||bayard0||3/15/10 2:42 PM|
Im having the same problem on all videos.. for the last 3 days or so...
what i have noticed is that i click on the pop out button.. and it opens the video on a seperate page it loads.
example, this link should work for everyone getting the error.
and of course the original doesnt.. like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouLyl2BBHLM
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||ambarabà||3/16/10 8:07 AM|
my default setting about cookies is to refuse them at all and, of course, to accept them on a per site basis - in order to easily manage this situation I use the CookieButton add-on for Firefox; with this setting, either logged in or not, the well known message appears, but...
..if I choose to accept cookies from ALL sites (not third parties), YT restart to work, either logged in or not...
on the contrary - and obviously - if I choose to not accept cookies from YT, YT works too.
hope this helps
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||connors0720||3/16/10 9:27 PM|
So I was having the same issues. Reinstalled adobe all that.... Finally decided to go from firefox back to IE.... SUCCESS!!
So try reinstalling firefox. Then if still not working, try viewing the videos with explorer.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||witchstar75||3/17/10 10:27 PM|
I have had "an error occurred, try again later" on every video i try to watch. I've done everything from re installing my flash player to changing my firewall settings. This is NOT a problem with my machine. I have had this problem for about a week now. I have a laptop a little over a yr old. back in December I upgraded to Windows 7. I have had the same flash player on mine for a while now and I use firefox. Everything worked on you tube up until about a week ago. all other things i've done involving flash player still works just not videos on you tube so this isn't my problem it's you tube's. FIX IT.

I've never, ever, felt like smashing a hole in my computer before. Now I truly do. This problem happened to my last computer, then my computer broke down - forever. Now, it's happening again and I am truly at lost at what to do. I've went to a million websites, seeknig for solutions. It really annoys me.
I've seen millions of suggestions.
Some said to reinstall your Adobe Flash Player - I removed my previous one, and reinstalled.
Then others say to reinstall your Java as well - I installed it.
I also tried to add "&fmt=18" to my url.
Next came the crapping from Youtube suggestions to disable pop-up blockers.
After was the disabling of Firewall.
Then by then, my laptop had never felt more vulnerable - I was prone to popups and viruses more than ever before.
And guess what? Nothing worked. Nothing at all.
I'm really starting to lose my patience here.
I can see that I'm not the only person to suffer from this. Thus, I think that the problem lies with Youtube. It's not the first time such a thing happened and I am really frustrated about how Youtube is ignoring this!
Please, someone, tell me what to do! I did a million methods and I am at the verge of breaking down! It really sucks not to watch videos from Youtube!
(By the way, my computer plugs into a modem and this "An error occured" message happens at EVERY, SINGLE, VIDEO.)
Kind souls, YOUTUBE, HELP OUT PLEASE! PLEASE GO UNDER A MAINTENANCE CRAP SOON!
(I also faced problems with entering facebook, and whenever I can't view videos from other websites as well! HELP!)
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||gazjon||3/20/10 5:03 AM|
playing around with a couple of browsers I found the following. Using Chrome the vids work ok, using internet explorer in Firefox, again, ok. Using Firefox, big fail. Looks like whatever has been done affects FF, whether its Mozillas latest updates, a flash update problem with FF or something Youtube has done I've no idea, but maybe they should get together and sort this out.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||Whiteberry||3/21/10 8:40 AM|
I use Internet Explorer here... Which was the root of my problems
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||dalyght||3/21/10 1:28 PM|
Okay, for the past few days I've been wallowing in this (clearly) all-too-common problem. Doing things with Flash, Firefox and Java do nothing. I finally narrowed it down to my cookies.
a) If I delete my youtube cookies, I can play a vid, but of course, a new cookie sets itself instantly
b) if I set my cookies to NOT accept from youtube, (and by the way, I only ever allow cookies on a invitational basis, not wholesale public acceptance) then I can play any vid. BUT I can no longer sign in, so all my lovingly compiled playlists are inaccessible.
So I think I'm making a little progress....
And no, not even for Youtube will I start using IE. Anyway, maybe I'll have more time to get work done if I'm not exploring the world of Youtube all the time.
Too bad, because I love Youtube. (Until now.)

|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||pepk||3/22/10 10:45 AM|
Wow, so many people with the exact same issue that I'm having. And it seems to happen over a long period of time. Is this a server issue? Does Youtube read these Posts? Are they checking our browsers? Does this have something to do with Viacom? Those evil corporate interlopers who spread electronic viruses like Choleric manifestations of doom.
I can watch videos on other webservers, just not on Youtube. What gives guys? What gives?
Keep the internet free and for the people!

Having problem as well, started a few days ago. I;m using Google Chrome and everytime i try to play any videos it just says "An error occured, please try again later". Judging by the number of response to the original post, nothing has been done to fix this. I tried all possible solution like reinstalling adobe flash player, stopping firewall, reinstalling java, etc.. but nothing works. I am sad cos i really like Youtube on Google Chrome.
Is Youtube even reading our post??
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||JustujuTv||3/22/10 10:51 PM|
IS THE YOUTUBE NOW SHOWING UP SOME "RELIABILITY" FACTOR ISSUES !
Dear ladies and gentlemen at YouTube and all of its account holders and viewers.
A very nice day to you.
My project, JustujuTv, that I started on December 1, 2009, is one of the beneficiaries of the support and resources available from Google Inc. BTW, JUSTUJU means QUEST in Urdu.
My videos are first uploaded to YouTube, and then its URLs are posted at various relevant websites where people take interest in those subjects and topics.
This has changed recently. About 2 days ago. Now at least in my browsers I get this cryptic message:
" An error has occurred, please try again later."
No explanation about the error is available. I searched all over the internet, but no clue is found :( .
The videos are working fine at the Original Servers, YouTube.Com. But you can no more play them through the usual Thumbnails at other sites. It is still possible to see the thumbnails of videos. Also it is possible to place the YouTube URL to let the viewers click on it to see the program at YouTube.Com.
I am wondering about possible causes, among others, if it is some kind of a "disciplinary" strategy from YouTube... ! Say some sort of a "violation" of its long list of Terms and Conditions might have occurred! And YouTube is "offended" in some way. Technically I find no problems with my Computers.
It is interesting to note that ALL my videos and players are PUBLIC. And adding "&fmt=18" may work in a URL, but what about the embedding code! That too is returning same error message.
I tried to call YouTube on the phone number provided at the YouTube site, only to get an answer from Google, with a very long list of options, asking for a known extension number, and finally leaving me more confused and lost. With each optional choice the automated Google voice volume kept on lowering until I could hear little ;-) Also emails to Service@YouTube.Com remain without a response or acknowledgment.
Is there some kind of a call center or a help desk at YouTube, that one can register a ticket for a follow up of a specific problem like this one!!!!!
Come on, the do gooders at Google. Please help find a solution ....
Very Questly Yours,

I have same problem...in every single video! Not a single one plays! I have latest version of firefox, updated flashplayer. The problem does not occur when I use Google Chrome and it is on the same PC. So it cannot be my machine's fault!
The problem was contoured when on the top right of the video window we had an arrow to pop up the video, an there the video worked fine! Now with the new page display...that arrow does not exist anymore! (Besides I take the chance to say that the new explay it's bad in every way).
I have for instance "DownloadHelper" firefox addon, now that is simply impossible to use because it doesn't download anything...on the other hand...I have too "youtube to mp3" addon, and it works fine even without the video rolling!

I don't know what's up with YouTube but at least i can view videos again.
It's so stupid that they took out the "open in a new window" option... the people who get the error message won't get to view the videos AT ALL.
They should fix it this instant!

Had the same problem for a few weeks. Turns out I had cookies blocked for the site. Videos worked fine once I enabled the cookies.
Seems to easy, but is worth a try. For anyone who doesn't know how, just go to tools/options/privacy, then enable cookies and make sure to go to exceptions and remove youtube from the list if it is listed as a blocked site.

I have read through a great many of the postings on the "An error occurred . . . " problem. I have yet to see anyone say that Google may be deliberately blocking requests for videos on certain people, subjects or topics possibly at the behest of someone(s) else who do not wish the public to see those videos. Given the problem that Google has had with Chinese censorship, I wonder if this question has been asked. And if not, why not?

|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||aviendha1591||4/24/10 12:34 PM|
It would be really nice if the error message were something more specific than "an error occured". We understand that much. But the wide variety of problems that are consolidated in that single message makes it impossible for users to debug the problem. All that we can do is guess at common causes- from flash player upgrades to firewalls to temporary outages on the server-side. The error message itself is totally useless.

Please locate my video. Since this video can't be viewed on any computer, it suggests this is Youtube's issue. Thanks

It's part of the New World Order in which Google and the CLIA (Central LACK of Intelligence Agency) and the FBI (Federal Bureau of Idiots) control and acquire information on every aspect of our lives. But since it involves the CLIA who couldn't find Bin Laden and did not get ONE thing right on WMDs in Iraq, they are even screwing up YouTube and their own intelligence gathering.
Now if I disappear after posting this, please call my mother.

|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||pepk||4/28/10 9:11 AM|
Yeah, Youtube doesn't care. It's definitely a software/server/program/incompatibility problem that they can't or won't address. I too am having this problem on three of my computers for two months now. My daughter's still works and is reluctant to let me touch it for fear I will "infect" it. LMAO!
THe only way for me to watch a video is to go to the subscriber's page and view video.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||LGee||5/5/10 4:33 PM|
Maybe a helpful addition for some of you:
Simply adding 'www' to the URL where it is omitted fixes the following problem detected by any network analyzer tool (wireshark, for example):
GET /crossdomain.xml HTTP/1.1

I was watching Channel 4 on Youtube and all at a sudden it stops working 'an error occurred bla bla bla'
This is on Safari with Mac OS 10.5
No ad block softwareNo firewall
Same Internet like the past 5 years
Everything is the same
Funny I cant watch the video but I could still see the advertisements looping and looping

Ok.. well at least it's 'not just me'
I don't know what's going on - but my compatibility issues seem to be centering around windows 7 - it's the ONLY machine in the house (we have 10) that its happening with - and it's happening with multiple browsers on this machine so it's not a FF issue. Done the uninstall / reinstall flash / java thing - no help
Oddly enough I can view videos in youtube just fine from the regular search menu thing, but anyone with a youtube page (like Mishka the Talking Dog) - get the error message. Click on an embedded video from FaceBook or LiveJournal - get the error message.
Really this has gone on long enough and I'm NOT finding any answers out there anywhere on the net. YouTube - whether or not you're responsible - you're gonna want to find and post a solution soon - or it will end up damaging your website's reputation and popularity
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||ethern3l||5/19/10 3:14 PM|
Well I have the same problem as anyone else.... some videos will work but most of them wont (like 95%)... I did not download any new software.. didn't upgrade anything it just started randomly.
I have no firewall, done the flash update chekced if youtube was in the trusted site list, chekced in different browser and it doesn't work.
Kinda suck... in 5 years I've kind of got to rely on youtube to help me in my work... I hope I'll still be abble to do it!
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||bgdawg||5/20/10 9:32 AM|
I have the same problem, though I think I found the cause. I am currently using Firefox and when I try to play one of youtube videos that do not work for me, I get some crappy error (warning) messages in the error console (which is in Tools, Error Console, or you can do ctrl+shift+J).
The most important of the error messages seems to be : Unknown property 'behavior' + a link to the code of the video page.
The other errors/warnings show errors linked to the code of some .css sheet : http://s.ytimg.com/yt/cssbin/www-core-vfl166054.css
Someone got any idea what this could be?
p.s. I have used Chrome and IE too but Firefox error console's the only one that gave me some response to that "An error occured, please try again later." message.

HERE IS THE SOLUTION
Where Internet Explorer fails,
where Firefox fails,where Chrome fails,
where Opera fails,
where Safari fails,
Flock works. I have all six browsers, and Flock doesn't fail on YouTube.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||GenerolHavoc||5/25/10 3:16 AM|
It's been happening to alot of people for over one month now, though this work around may work for you, also this post seems to be one of the main discussions about it as a number of thread/posts are being redirected to it.
You can also look at the second reference as that also has a work around that may work for you..
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||ebbixx||5/25/10 4:55 AM|
Cookie settings may help some users (that's the only suggesting contained in Gen. Havoc's Ref that's not a duplicate of the suggestion to use an alternative DNS server, which is recommended in both of those reference threads.
I'm fairly curious, since I'm just back from a pleasant mini-vacation with family, whether the specific outage with Bell Rogers and maybe some other ISPs in Canada has been resolved since late last week?
This particular error message can show up for several reasons, and in some cases the recommended workarounds might not work, especially if you're only seeing the message sometimes or rarely. Sometimes it indicates that YouTube's copy of the video has been corrupted, or that a cached copy of a video is "stuck" (and corrupted) on a server accessed only by some viewers.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||BassBounce||7/1/10 7:27 AM|
Ok, listen to how weird this is. The normal videos at 360 p in the new, sleek player don't play but the old player works as does the 480p in the new player. What the hell is wrong with youtube? This makes no sense whatsoever but as long as the video has a 480p option, you should be able to watch it. At least that's my experience. I hope this works for you people as well.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||ebbixx||7/1/10 8:57 AM|
Hmmn... this is the second report of this I've read in the last few hours. Sounds like another new bug, especially since it's Thursday morning (the morning after YouTube typically rolls out the new bugs (I mean, "features" and maintenance, repairs, etc.)
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||ebbixx||7/1/10 8:59 AM|
@BassBounce - Could you share a URL for a video that's affected by this? Also, are you seeing this bug/feature on the channel viewer or on a watch page (or somewhere else altogether?
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||wardemon||7/1/10 9:10 AM|
I have one of my playlists playing and more than half of the videos are saying error
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||Ray4PA||7/1/10 10:34 AM|
and another one had no probs...system crash and just re-installed windows flash jave deleted cookies history and whatever more mentioned in the TOO MANT threads about this topic.
Vids don't play with FF3.6 (all latest plugins and reinstalled several times now) in the low Pix mode period. If you switch to higher pix it will run...If you pop it out it will run......If you switch to full screen it will run (HD pass in settings)....if you decrease to 240P when it runs it will keep running....
What wrong with all those CSS ERORRS FOLKS!
YOUTUBE FIX THIS DAMN ERROR as I can't watch any of the low res vids.....but they do hold the most precious music on this damn site
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||Walsa||7/1/10 12:21 PM|
right click on the video screen and select "stop downloading"
now press play.
but yes you still need to check if your flash player is updated.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||AVLGA||7/6/10 1:06 PM|
I had the same problem and try a lot of thing to solved it : uninstall and reinstall Flash plug-in (release 10 for Firefox 3.6), disabled AdBlockPlus, removed cookies, use IE8, Opera 10 and Chrome... but nothing changes, I still had this "error occured, please try later" message...
Then I uninstaledl Flash Player 10 and downloaded Macromedia Flash Player 9 from OldVersion.com and it works !!
Hope this will help if you have the same problem
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||so-whatnow||7/8/10 7:15 AM|
So - almost 200 comments from an issue that started a year ago. But yet, no comment from Google?
I am having the same issue when trying to embed a video on my website. If there is a simple fix, I am quite willing to do that (as long as I don't have to provide technical instructions to my website visitors just to watch the video). I have tried:
* Google Chrome
* Clearing cookies in Google Chrome
* adding &fmt=18 and &fmt=5 to the end of my embedded URLs
None of the above works.
Hopefully, Google will fix this. I do find it interesting that there were no comments on this thread in June, then they started again in July. Maybe Google fixed something - that broke again?
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||ebbixx||7/8/10 8:49 AM|
There was a new Flash (and Java) release at the very end of June or first days of July. A large percentage of these breakdowns seem to relate to bugs or incompatibilities of Flash (and other plug-ins) so they tend to come in waves whenever there are new upgrades that lead to conflicts with some systems, cards and drivers. On your site, have you checked with a fair number of people to see whether they are all having the same problems? I ask because sometimes this error also shows up on videos that have been corrupted... if you have one of those in an embedded playlist, for example, that could trigger this message.
One problem is that this message covers so many different types of problems there is rarely just one right answer, and it does seem, at least, that YouTube makes a lot more changes, many of them subtle, and rarely takes time to provide the details, which is sensible, since a new change is almost inevitable every week, and some of those changes will lead to viewing problems for some percentage of viewers.
To make a new announcement every week, at least here, would most likely lead to more confusion than it would eliminate. Though I wouldn't mind seeing a one-way announcement from YouTube engineering that simply described the weekly (and sometimes daily) tech fixes, at least those that would not give hints to potential exploits (which might be one justification for saying as little as they do, considering how many people use the site).

It works now. Months later. Guess Youtube was updating itself.

no its still shafted
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||Andy_P||7/20/10 8:30 AM|
Can someone explain why this topic is listed as "Answered" when I can find no definitive solution and certainly noting OFFICIAL about tit from YouTube?
I have read every reply in this topic and several others and Googled the problem until I am blue in the face and nothing fixes it.
It's nothing to do with wireless networks - it's happening on a wired connection]It's nothing to do with Windows 7 , its happening on an old XP Pro machine.
It DOES seem to be something to do with browser and Flash version combination.
When I first started getting the problem it was only on YouTube videos EMBEDDED in a forum. If I clicked on the frame I got the (incredibly annoying by now) "An error occurred, please try again later" message, but if I clicked on the frame again, YouTube itself would open in a new window and the video would play.
I usually use Firefox 3, but IE8 behaved exactly the same.
In an attempt to fix it I followed some of the instructions here and re-installed Flash.
After that, the error message occurs on ALL You Tube videos, whether embedded or not in Firefox, but SOMETIMES they work in IE now.
I want to continue using Firefox, but I have no access to YouTube videos at all for two months now on that platform.
PLEASE does anyone have some official information about this issue?.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||ebbixx||7/20/10 9:26 AM|
From the Terms of Service you were supposed to read, but which no one in their right mind ever does:
"1. Description of Service. Google Help Forum is an online community where Google users ask and answer questions on a variety of topics. You will be responsible for all activities occurring under your username and for keeping your password secure. You understand and agree that Google Help Forum is provided to you on an AS IS and AS AVAILABLE basis. Google disclaims all responsibility and liability for the availability, timeliness, security or reliability of Google Help Forum or content within Google Help Forum. [emphasis added - ebbixx] Google also reserves the right to modify, suspend or discontinue Google Help Forum with or without notice at any time and without any liability to you."
So, the answer is, what you see here is what you get. There is actually some accurate information up there, but it's a challenge to determine which parts are roughly correct.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||Andy_P||7/20/10 5:45 PM|
With respect, I know exactly what you get with peer-to-peer forums.
But as this is SUCH a widespread and long lasting fault, isn't it surprising that the YouTube admin make no effort to assist or even mention it?
Also, the heading of this forum section does say "Something not working correctly? Let *us* know here" which sort of implies *they* want to know about it.
There may well be some "accurate" information on this forum, but as far as I know I have tried everything suggested and got no further forward.
I don't know You Tubes' buisness model, but I assume it is funded by advertising and at the moment they are getting no income from me as there is no point in me visiting the site.
I want to, YouTube want me to, so isn't it in THEIR interest to help me to do so?
I'm prepared to try anything anyone suggests.
I have also run Firefox in safe mode, to see if any add-ons were causing it, but a. it didn't help, and b. I don't know if that would also have disabled the Flash player so it wouldn't work anyway.
I have reinstalled Flash and Java.
I should have mentioned that when I try to play an embedded video, I *do* get a scrolling set of images at the bottom of the window previewing other videos I night like to watch.
That ribbon scrolls back and forth fine, but none of those videos play either.

Yes I am seeing that video.
I should add that although YouTube videos embedded in other sites are still not working, they are now working again on the main YT site if I double-click on the video pane.
I don't *think* I have changed anything, but automatic updates to Java, Flash etc. might have happened without me realising?
Here is an example of an embedded video (I hope you can access this site without having to register)
(Sorry for delay in replying, I have been on holiday and without internet access!)
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||ebbixx||7/28/10 11:32 AM|
All three embedded players are working for me at the moment. However, both there and on YouTube there is no audio for parts 2 or 3.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||Andy_P||7/28/10 12:51 PM|
Sorry, maybe not the best choice of example!
The person who posted those clips apologised for the missing audio.
For me, I'm still getting "An error occurred, please try again later" on all the embedded players.
|Re: An error occurred, please try again later||ebbixx||7/28/10 1:07 PM|
Sometimes, reloading the page will fix that. Often these errors seem to happen when you have an older version stuck in cache... reloading the page often will do the trick. If not, clearing cache may help.
