This. Isn't this what Marketing departments are supposed to prevent? Aren't they supposed to do, you know, market research *ahead* of time so a public lynching like this can be avoided? All it would take is a focus group, or a survey, or a beta test sampling, BEFORE having committed to this course of action. Someone did a very effective internal sales job at Google/Youtube and probably got a promotion out of it. Someone else will probably get a promotion for "handling" this disaster.
As an *option*, sure, allow Google+ integration if they really think Google+ has any viable future at all. But requiring it? Wow. Somebody convinced someone that increased Google+ numbers was worth sacrificing YouTube. :/
