Slow upload times, week of 8/20 ytKeane 8/22/12 4:09 PM
Hi everyone,

We're aware of the number of reports recently about abnormally slow upload times and are currently investigating this issue.

If you're experiencing an upload time longer than usual (greater than one hour for a normal sized video), know that we are looking into it.

Please keep an eye on this thread for updates as we have more to share.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

-keane

UPDATE 8/29/12:

I've received an update that most of these problems should now be alleviated and upload speeds should be back to normal. I'll leave this thread open for the rest of the week in case there are more large groups of reports. Thanks for your patience!

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 ytKeane 8/22/12 5:02 PM
Please supply the following information if this issue is affecting your uploads:
  • Browser
  • Video URL for videos affected
  • Any information about the specifications of the video being uploaded (codecs, container) - helpful but if you don't know how to look this stuff, don't worry about posting it
This info will help us investigate the issue further, thanks!

Does this also cover the unusual processing failure returning the aborted message?  I think that's something that most people are annoyed about more than anything.  I know I am.
Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 Albertico 8/22/12 5:14 PM
=Browser

Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer

=Video URL for videos affected

and every single video I try uploading

=Any information about the specifications of the video being uploaded

MP4, AVCHD, H.264 videos of any size or length are affected. And all said videos uploaded fine and fast in other sites like DailyMotion. The problem rests with YouTube only.

Should also note that 1/2 of the time when they do finally upload all the way, it fails and there's an error so we just wasted all that time uploading
Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 rjaworski 8/22/12 5:22 PM
I'm using Firefox.
http://youtu.be/eSUn_67ifWc
1080/24P
H.264
File is 1.5G and has been uploading for 7 hours now. It is at 82%. Processing has not started yet.
My upload speed is 3M. A file like this usually uploads in just over 1 hour.
Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 JesterMan900 8/22/12 5:40 PM
I'm using Google Chrome to upload a 1.7GB file and the speed fluctuates in the first 2-5 percent and then just stops. The longest estimated time of completion so far was 600 minutes. Tried on two different computers with the same result. It is a AVI rendered in Pinnacle Studio 15.
Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 KyleJohnsonVA 8/22/12 5:40 PM
I made my own post because I wasn't sure if I was supposed to reply to this sticky or not, but others are so I guess I'll paste that same info here.

I have Comcast Cable, and my upload speed is around 4 megabits per second (512 kilobytes per second).

As a type this, I am currently uploading a video that is 4 minutes and 48 seconds long, 1080p, 30fps, H.264 encoded .mp4, Variable Bitrate 2-Pass at 12Mbps, AAC Stereo at 48kHz and 320 kbps (although it seems after encoding it was dropped to 318kbps), with a file size of 423 megabytes.

When the upload starts, it begins at a speed close to my theoretical maximum upload speed, but after about a minute or so declines rapidly. It generally hovers around 20 kilobytes per second after that, with bursts up to around 80kb/s and dips as low as 2kb/s. Meanwhile I am RECEIVING a constant stream of data at around 10kb/s.

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 Lefty643 8/22/12 6:05 PM
Browser: Chrome and Firefox (tried with both, same issue)

URL: Don't have one because the damn things won't upload with your shitty coding and late response

Video info: Sony AVC, 720p 8,500 Kbps bitrate, CABAC entropy coding, AAC audio codec sampled at 48 KHz w/ bitrate of 128 KHz.

Fix your shit, you're backed by Google for chrissakes, this shouldn't even be an issue for us.

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 TheLetterFifteen 8/22/12 7:23 PM
I had problems with this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn4gyc_0TLE&feature=plcp
It's only 20 seconds, but it took almost two hours to upload.

It's 1080p. I believe it was 1080 by 720.

I've been affected.

Using Google Chrome, but have also tried Firefox and IE.

I'm attempting to upload the following video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KxUycJwpZ0&feature=youtu.be

I've kept 100% of all my usual render and video settings the same as I've always had been using.

Lastly, if you watch the following video, it describes EXACTLY what I'm experiencing:

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 DailyDownloadTV 8/23/12 8:34 AM
Browser: Safari

URL: Videos affected were aborted so wasn't posted had to upload to DailyMotion to continue posting videos for our audience, our Youtube channel is as follows:

http://www.youtube.com/user/dailydownloadtv

Info on video:

Dimensions: 1920 × 1080
Codec: DVCPRO HD (1080p30), Linear PCM, Timecode
Color Profile: HD (1-1-1)

Just know that I have great internet and this is a result of another one of your bugs that you've taken your dear sweet time to respond to. If only I were one of your top partnered whores, maybe I'd have gotten an answer to this within A MONTH.

I'd also like to report and add to my previous post; LIVE Streams are taking a lot longer to process than usual, a lot longer.

This 47 or so minutes stream was finished over 3 hours ago and still it has yet to process. The same thing happened with a test stream I did yesterday. Normally even a 2 hour+ stream takes no more than 30 minutes to process and appear on YouTube.

Please fix all these issues fast, I can see a lot of users including myself really upset over this.
Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 Albertico 8/24/12 7:45 AM
Update, it's been 20 hours since I finished my 48 minute Live Stream and it has yet to process and appear on my YouTube channel. When are you guys fixing this up?

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 DailyDownloadTV 8/24/12 9:01 AM
I just tried to see if there was any Improvement, and it took me about 2 hours to post this video:

http://youtu.be/9t3yyES7wCQ

this is after I compressed it via Mpeg streamclip to an mp4 to under 2 gigs.

thankfully it fully processed the video.

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 TrueShawnBW 8/28/12 12:33 PM
I haven't had any problem with videos processing in a couple days, so guessing this might be resolved?  Videos still take a couple hours, but none have failed and claimed they were aborted, and I don't mind the 2 hours wait as long as they're successful.  I also have no uploading speed issues, but I've been using Firefox, not Chrome, and the uploading speed issue I had was on Chrome, so I'm not sure about that part.

Anyone able to confirm that this problem is fixed?  Or is it just a coincidence that I've had no problems?
Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 ytKeane 8/28/12 1:55 PM
@TrueShawnBW Nothing official to confirm on my end yet. Glad to hear things are going well for you though. I've also heard that Internet Explorer is working when Chrome doesn't.
Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 mrgreen009 8/29/12 10:17 AM
I'm experiencing very slow upload times.  20+ hours for a 150MB mp4 video.

Browser: Firefox and Chrome
URL: http://youtu.be/qRHzPchkrYI

Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 ytKeane 8/29/12 10:21 AM

@mrgreen009 - Is it that the processing is slow or that the actual uploading is slow?
Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 mrgreen009 8/29/12 10:39 AM
The upload is my problem.  My bandwidth is ok - no problem uploading to other sites.

Thanks
Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 mrgreen009 8/29/12 8:38 PM
12 hours in, and my 150Mb file is 70% of the way done.  I am always having trouble with the uploader... why is it so prone to problems?

Here is my report:
http://productforums.google.com/d/topic/youtube/TVOalDEATCA/discussion

I can't remember the specific videos. But they were relatively small in file size.
I use mpeg-4

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 Computerplayer1 9/2/12 10:09 AM
I've been experiencing slow upload for a while now. I'm not sure what the original upload speeds were meant to be but it's barely using my upload speed.

I live in Halifax, NS, Canada. I encode our videos in 1080p @15mbs mp4. My upload speed is 30Mb/s on a fibre op line.

I'm uploading a video at this moment that is 1.74gb. My LAN monitor is showing an upload speed to the server at between 150KB/s to 250KB/s which means at most it's using 2Mb of my 30Mb. Again, I don't know what the normal upload speeds are supposed to be, I'm just assuming they'd likely be faster. I certainly don't expect to use all 30Mb/s, but I thought I'd at least get 1MB/s.

Are these standard upload speeds? I turned off my firewall etc to see if there was a block but it didn't change anything.

Thanks

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 Phoboz 9/5/12 8:39 AM
Affected, as I type this.

Browser: Google Chrome.
URL: http://youtu.be/11QWZOOe4Mk
Video info: 1920x1080 .mp4 file, size: 716MB.

Usually takes less than an hour, to upload it and process it. Now it's taking more than two hours and has only uploaded 49% of it. I have 5MB of upload speed.

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 Phoboz 9/5/12 8:41 AM
761MB*
Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 Matt Perry 9/21/12 6:59 AM
Google chrome. On Air Hangouts have always worked and processed quickly, but this is taking forever.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHeZYNzG-O0&feature=player_embedded
If this video is lost I will be devastated and can now longer use Google Plus, which we have been avidly supporting.
Please get me a downloadable version of this recording or help the processing finish!
Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 IZAQ 9/21/12 8:35 PM

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 beading4perfectionis 10/14/12 12:25 PM
I'm going in for my 3rd try now with a 681 minute upload http://youtu.be/tsi2Xf9fXxA using firefox. It broke down 2 times before in the processing stage and gave me teh error that my video could not be monitised. I didn't even have the option turned on yet.

I tried re-uploading with IE but I got the same errorcode early on whe I started my upload. I have now cleaned out my cookies and history and am trying another upload as we speak which I hope will complete in 655 minute from now.

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 beading4perfectionis 10/15/12 4:26 AM
yup cleaning the cookies out worked for me
Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 mikesey 11/27/12 4:39 AM
Yesterday I uploaded an Mpeg2 video, which was fine; it stayed on the page after upload.  (video is almost 6 mins in length)

Later the same night, I attempted to upload another Mpeg2 video, of a mere 15:52 minutes duration , after almost three hours uploading,  I got a "processing video" message, then another one saying that it was "queued"
This morning a failure note was with the video, talking of "codec" problems (bearing in mind that less than 24 hours earlier, I had uploaded an Mpeg2 video with no problems)
I deleted that then WASTED another 2.5 HOURS uploading it AGAIN, only to get the SAME message. I haven't yet deleted that one, but converted it to an MP4. Tried to upload THAT one, but wait!! 168 minutes to upload 100 mbs??
Come YT., get your act together, my time is precious, and all this uploading time is reducing my hairline, after pulling it out.
Browser: Google Chrome
Codecs: Mpg2

Don't close it because i've just begone to encounter this issue.
My uploads are being estimated at 5000 minutes. It may start off at reasonable times but climbs rapidly to silly numbers.
Until as recently as yesterday I was uploading fine. Same format, pc etc etc.
Have done speed tests etc at my end and everything seems to be normal.

Hi, I had an error message on my Pinnacle Studio when trying to upload my video 2 diffident times on 3//3 indicating it was an issue with your internet service hosting.  I saw several other complaints on this site from users that they were also having upload issues that day.  On 3/4 I retried the upload and now my video just says processing and the count is still as 0.00 and has been that way for 14 hours.  Can you fix this?  Thanks

Re: Slow upload times, week of 8/20 harryengrace 3/12/13 9:58 AM
The problem was caused by an update of AVG Free somewhere between the 19th and the 24th of february. After deleting AVF Free uploading was back to normal.
