Hi everyone,

We've just launched a new feature in the Video Editor and Enhancements tools that let you play your video or clips at slomo speeds.

On the Enhancements page, click the turtle icon next to "Stabilize" and pick your speed.

In an Editor project, click the effects icon and check the "Slow motion" box.

Please let us know what you think of this feature! If you have any issues, you can report them in the Video Editor issues thread. Thanks!

Does this take into account the framerate of the original video? For example, if I take a 60fps video and upload it, then choose 50% speed in the editor, will it display at 30fps on youtube, or will it cut the whole video to 30fps first and therefore have my 50% section at 15fps?

My bit of feedback is the ability to replace or split up the audio track.
As it is now, my voice is in slow motion.  So if I was able to split the audio and move it around or upload/insert
new parts of the audio, it would make it an even more useful tool.

Slomo doesn't affect framerate. It creates new frames to slow down the video.

So you're saying it DOESN'T take into account the additional frames that I already uploaded (in a 60fps video) but instead cuts the entire video to youtube's accepted framerate, and later the editor interpolates brand new frames. Correct?

Hi ytKeane,

p.s. I don't understand how it doesn't affect framerate.
Can you give more detailed explanation regarding this?

Kind Regards,

Great utility as we can present our videos much better than before but I want to ask if we can make a custom timeframe of the video in slow motion or it will apply to the whole video?

Definitely need the ability to slow down  areas of the video instead of the whole thing.
Re: Slow motion now available in Video Editor and Enhancements Teresa_ 6/21/13 5:56 PM
@taofledermaus -  Maybe you could create a slow motion copy of the video.  Keep it private.

Then pull it into the video editor and split it between the original and slow motion version.  In the video editor, the sound can be shut off,
although it can be pretty funny to listen to.

I had some ducks running around out back and I put them in slow motion.

I don't think I've ever used the youtube editor, other than to cut 10 seconds of black screen at the end of a video.
Do the editing before uploading it, you'll get hugely better results.

Good idea, Quacktics, though I applaud YouTube for this feature, since it's a good ground for a better feature. :)

Does this slow down the whole video or does it only slow down selected parts of the video? Thanks.

Awesome feature :) Just an idea why dont u guys put in "repeat video" functionality for your player so its easy for people to repeat the video without need to go to the pc. The most common repeated videos is music without a doubt.

I have to come back and say that I have figured my issue out so that sound does not play.  There is a little slider to shut off the sound in each clip. I really like the improvements that the YouTube video editor offers.  Its funny because it does better slow motion than my Sony Vegas.

I like that I can re-introduce old videos to my new subscribers and provide enhancements that are useful to my followers.

Re: Slow motion now available in Video Editor and Enhancements Help Please Youtube? 9/18/13 8:20 AM
I've just tried to create a new topic here, wrote a whole post and it was lost because of the message 'Couldn't connect to the server' after pressing post *sigh*

Anyway, I was wondering why you've limited the invdieo programming feature to only 15 seconds now, this is a terrible decision and I'm not really sure what reason could be given to justify why we're now only allowed our invideo programing video to display for only 15 seconds on our video's?, like the channel icon throughout the whole video, why is invideo programming no longer allowed for more than 15 seconds.

It's a silly decision, many times I don't notice the suggested video when I first play a clip because I'm too busy watching the video for the first 15 seconds at least, putting it at the end too, well, not everyone will see it at the end either, so I'm really unsure as to why you have now made invideo programming display for only 15 seconds now in length, rather than the custom time we would like to put in ourselves, it's the silliest and worst decision ever.

Please know, I am VERY grateful for the invideo programming feature and can't thank you guys enough for bringing this in, but I'm also very disappointed that it's now, all of a sudden, only displaying for 15 seconds, it makes no sense to limit this from us, when before we could put in our custom time, why take that away????

Please sort it out youtube asap, and thank you also for providing such a great service, it is truly appreciated, but I wanted to stress how truly disappointed I am about this here, and I do hope that you will listen and change it.

People can easily turn annotations off, or the suggested video off when watching, so why take it away from us only allowing this now to display for 15 seconds, it's a very very silly decision and makes NO sense what so ever to limit this all of a sudden.

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

If you enable the HTML5 player you can enable 2x speed. So if you record a video at 60fps and render it in slowmo so it becomes 30fps. You can watch it in 60fps on youtube. But you will have to select 2x speed.
