|Switching from google.de to google.com||Atta33||6/15/12 10:51 AM|
First of all: I live in Germany, but I absolutely prefer google.com as my goto search engine (home page)
Short: I am on google.de and want to go to google.com via the link on the bottom right of the search page. but it always takes me to google.de. Help?
Long: after I bought my new laptop I was very thankful that the google.de/.com problem could be solved without screwing around too much (just switch the search engine via the link under the search box as needed). Then I went abroad (Romania) and got REALLY mad when it never wanted to go away from google.ro (except when I logged out of gmail). Now I deleted my cookies and changed the language settings in search and thank God I don't get that site anymore when trying to access google.com. Instead I get google.de. ALWAYS. And I can not change that via the link in the lower left of the search site itself. Worked fine till now. Help?

I have this problem as well. It only started cropping up today, I deleted all my cookies and browsing history, nothing helped. Also in Germany btw.

Oh...right: a small detail is that it didn't really result from my trip, I find. But rather it just turned up out of the blue on Sunday afternoon I think. Up until then it was ok!

Which browser, browser version and operating system are you using?
Are you referring to searches from the Google search page, the browser address bar, or the browser search box?

I'm in Holland, and have the same problem. Not on the laptop (windows) sofar, but on Ipad..... It won't even go to US Google when I type it in, took off the feature where it knows where you are, and put in area as US, just in case it does anyway..... Started last night.

Same problem here. Really damn annoying. They need to fix this. (I'm from the Netherlands, and it keeps reverting to Google.nl no matter what I do.)
|Re: Switching from google.de to google.com||Atta33||6/16/12 9:42 AM|
there is also a "rigid" link posted by google on the help page for search. there are several ways to actually go to the standard google.com. the problem here though is that no matter how often you try to go from an area search engine to goole.com via the link on the search page, it doesn't work
PS: for everyone having these issues. go to https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en&hl=en&tab=gw and try to switch to your area search (bottom right). can you switch back to google.com after that? I can't

https://www.google.com/ncr fixes it. (No Country Redirection).
Google.com now works perfectly fine again without being redirected to another domain.
|Re: Switching from google.de to google.com||Atta33||6/17/12 1:41 AM|
as I said previously, there are several ways to get to google.com, all of which are listed on the help page (including your solution ryudo300).
and NO google.com does not work perfectly fine again. the issue persists! when you go to google.com it redirects to your country and there is NO way of getting there except using a rigid URL or the one without country redirection.
I'll say it in another way: why would you have a link to google.com on the search page (google.de, google.nl whatever) when it literally does nothing but direct you back to same page you are on?
that is the problem! you can't get to google.com without screwing around with the URL first and without bookmarking it!

|Re: Switching from google.de to google.com||Ryudo300||6/17/12 2:06 AM|
I do agree that it shouldn't be necessary for us to even have to do that in the first place though.
The google.com link on the bottom of each page should be fixed, rather than us having to enter /ncr.
|Re: Switching from google.de to google.com||Atta33||6/17/12 8:03 AM|
exactly. if you really need to get to google.com then it isn't a big deal (i am using another solution not the ncr). but I hope the longer this thread gets the higher the chances of someone noticing this. it's really troublesome if you like to google in your contry AND internationally
|Re: Switching from google.de to google.com||Ryudo300||6/17/12 9:38 AM|
I still wonder why this issue is being completely ignored in the first place by Google Devs.
There's been so many topics about this and yet there's been no word on it being acknowledged. :/
Kind of worrisome.
|Re: Switching from google.de to google.com||Atta33||6/17/12 12:11 PM|
i think because it's the weekend :D
it will have to be resolved somehow however. because as it stands, their MAIN PAGE has a bug, which I'd guess it's a fiasco PR-wise ;)
|Re: Switching from google.de to google.com||Ozgur_Calli||6/17/12 11:54 PM|
as i've stated before, use this link: https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en&tab=mw

Yes it works all right, until the Google bastards will find it and neutralize it.
|Re: Switching from google.de to google.com||jay2300||6/18/12 8:02 AM|
in India we are facing same problem as well, you can use Google.com/ncr to open google.com
NCR stands for "No Country Redirect"

You made my day with this!!! Thank you very much!
@Google devs: please fix this. I still see Maps (and all the others except of Gmail), in Danish and there is no way to avoid it...
