I'm excited to share a project that our team has been working really hard on and may be of interest to you. Advanced Power Searching with Google is a free online course aimed at deepening your understanding of solving complex research questions using Google’s advanced search techniques.

Building on the Power Searching with Google course we ran last year, Advanced Power Searching is focused on deepening your understanding of solving complex search problems using advanced Google search techniques.

Registration is now open and the class runs from January 23 - February 8. Since this course goes beyond basic search tips, if you haven’t taken the first course you may want to take a look at the quick guide. You can learn more about both courses at www.powersearchingwithgoogle.com

In addition to honing your research skills, you'll be supporting my team and I in our effort to blend the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) format with Google's social and communication tools to create what we hope is a true community learning experience.

Thanks!
Jess

Hi Jessica,

I enrolled in the Advanced Power Searching class weeks ago, but I am unable to access any of the challenges, announcements, and even the forum to seek help. All the links included in the introductory email sent to me today send me to the Inside Search homepage (http://www.powersearchingwithgoogle.com/)  with no way for me to sign in or anything. Where can I go for help regarding access?

Thank you!

Hi Alyssa,

You should be able to access the info now that the class is live.  Do let me know if you're unable to.

Thanks!
Jess

Can you please let users turn off safe search for image search? At the moment even when you want to turn off safe search you can't do so on any of these sites for image search because it sets itself to moderate and doesn't let you turn off no matter what you do:
google.com
google.co.uk
google.com.au
google.ca

But these still work fine. These are the sites that still use the old style menus (off, moderate, strict) in image search
google.de
google.it
google.mx

Here is proof that google.com defaults to moderate safe search when you turn off:

Thanks Jess, can we still sign up!?  I mean its now like Jan 28, so I would have already missed and entire week of class.  Or will you guys be offer this class again? (like do a second class) Also..
P.S. Also, I actually thinking about posting a direct question to your team about google's country specific websites and how it was created.

Hi Jessica,

Thanks for your reply. I still an unable to access the class even though it is live. I'm trying to follow the links through the email sent to my account. I did sign up for Advanced Power Searching using my university email account (I use Google to access my school email), so I'm wondering if that has something to do with my access issues?

I tried signing up too and it would not let me join for some reason.  Is it cause it closed or need java/flash?  If its closed, will you offer the class again?
