Isn't this background thing awfull
I got around it by simply making a plain colour background in photo shop  then using the link at the bottom left of the google page  uploaded my plain back ground.ok not ideal but way way better  than whatgoogle wants to enforce on us.
( I tried white bit could not the text  see text so I settled for a pale grey/blue)

We're displaying these full-page images for one day only, similar to our other Google Doodles.  The homepage will be back to normal tomorrow and you can choose to stick with the classic white background then.

Alternatively, if you don't like the existing images, you can upload your own and set it as the background by clicking the 'Change background image' link in the bottom left.  I've included more detailed instructions in the link below.  Also, in the Editor's Pick collection, there's a plain white background available if you want a simple look.

In other words - don't go to Google for a day, and pray they remember some people use Google to get a job done, we're not out for entertainment.  Small pics around the letters Google have been acceptable - but, this outrageous display is not just questionable - it's assumed acceptability is an insult to your userbase!  Some of us (ok, at least me) - absolutely do not care for built-in toolbars either - I'll go to the page when I want my search, and review the results as I choose.  Please don't don't force such noise on us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You really pooched it this time Google...

***I don't like the new background feature! Actually I hate it!***

There is no option to have the "classic white" Google search page. If this situation is not dealt with in a couple of days I will be removing everything Google from the 8 computers in my home as well as the 33 computers at my business. I don’t mind so much that you forced this change on me, my family and staff, but you do not give me the ability to opt out. If this not dealt with by Monday, (an opt out button or equivalent). I will be removing Google search, Chrome and will be blocking your domains as is practical. I think the Scroogle scraper would be a good replacement. I could use Yahoo or Microsoft but I think switching to a scraper that removes your adds would be fitting. Allow me the ability to opt out if I wish, or you are so fired in my world.

This will be my home page now. Simple and uncluttered, the way I like it!

Nice clean Google results...   the way it should be.

Glad to hear this only for one day. Phew! my blood pressure was riisng. Immediately switched to Yahoo for search - again, cluttered force feeding of information. All I want is a search field - the Google logo themes are good, but no more please!

Re: How do i get rid of the image on my google homepage and return it to a plain white background ? Habitante 6/10/10 4:54 AM
Truly awful idea, even if it's just for one day. But on top of that, by not showing an option to turn the picture off, you successfully pissed off a large percentage of google users.

Please get it back to normal ASAP.

Why change it at all? It's so ugly, everyone loves google for it sleekness and stripped down, easy to use interfect, not this godawful design.

We all know we can change the background if we choose to, and some people, like myself, choose to keep the plain old white one.

I'll be avoiding google for today.

Stop smoking that crap..... if you feel that you need to have a photo, do so but LEAVE IT AS AN OPTION for the rest of the users....there's some damned kid out there who is impressed with a pretty photo; but what the hell for????? you connect to the web and go on with 'computer life'....I'm not connecting to look at pictures...... I hope this damn thing IS GONE tomorrow....

Thanks again

Wow. I have to deal with an image on the Google homepage. I am forced to look at an image when I prefer the white background. What about all the poor folks with visual disabilities? What about 508 compliance? Who at Google green lights these cutesy-touchy feeling "enhancements"? WTF?

Please give us an option to NOT have the background image. It's distracting and annoying.
Re: How do i get rid of the image on my google homepage and return it to a plain white background ? mb241 6/10/10 6:13 AM
The main reason I choose Google over others, is the simple just search function without everything else.  Plain White rocks.  I don't mind the logo changes, but one step to far.

Google you have reached rock bottom.
Whoever thought of these slow loading pictures on the homepage is a RETARD and needs sacking.
People want their plain white fast loading homepage back not this sickly looking crap.
At leaset give people the option to remove the stupid pics. Wheres the link to remove.

This background stuff is really terrible, even for one day. If the idea behind it was to make avoid using the google webpage for one day, they are quite successful, I'd say.
Re: How do i get rid of the image on my google homepage and return it to a plain white background ? mikemunsil 6/10/10 7:14 AM
I REALLY don't like having this crap forced upon me, even for one day. I had to waste time getting here to find this out.I resent that.

And Google really looks incompetent when you do this and post information that is incorrect.

"You can remove your background image at any time by clicking Remove background image in the bottom left corner of the homepage."

There IS NO such option.

FAIL.

WTF were you thinking Google?!  If I wanted someone taking a dump on my home page I would use Bing, or even worse, Yahoo.  And no Opt Out, you know better than this.  Sorry, but I shouldn't have to log in and configure my iGoogle site so that I can GET RID of this nonsense.  I don't need or want you customizing my pages for me, this is awful and hard to look at.  Is there not a change control process at Google anymore; surely no one in command would have given this decision the green light.
Just awful.
Re: How do i get rid of the image on my google homepage and return it to a plain white background ? lomartin 6/10/10 8:13 AM
I agree.  Just let me have the plain white background.  If this continues I will not continue using Google.  I thought they were so protective of how the page looks.  This is awful.

Not Google Too!! I left Yahoo and MSN a long time ago because I couldn't stand the clutter.  Clean and plain is what I loved about Google.  And because they kept it clean I didn't mind the logo changes and found it interesting. Now we have to have a picture.  Makes it very hard to read.  Here is a link to my new Google Home page picture.  I made it myself and you are free to use it anyway you want.

Google if you are listening... there are many other ways to play with things ... I love Google Earth, desktop, docs etc .... I love that you change your logo... Please leave the home page alone.
Re: How do i get rid of the image on my google homepage and return it to a plain white background ? sunshine2237 6/10/10 9:00 AM
Yikes!!!

Whose idea was this?!!!  How could you deliberately set out to destroy the very thing that sets Google apart and makes it preferable over Yahoo or Bing??   A serious black mark on the Google brand.  It won't be readily forgotten that Google forced some serious BS on it's users,  AND without an easy way to fix it. (If you go the 'change image' and select 'white', then all the text is whited out and hard to read, plus the whole thing loads up a tad slower).

If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT.
Re: How do i get rid of the image on my google homepage and return it to a plain white background ? Dwooid 6/10/10 9:51 AM
I'm surprised that there is no "no background image" option.
Re: How do i get rid of the image on my google homepage and return it to a plain white background ? Dwooid 6/10/10 9:52 AM
You might want to post on your front page that the "no blank background" change is ending today before too many people give bing a try.

OK, if it's for only a day...then why is it still here.  I hate it.  I type in what I'm searching for and click on Google search, my search request then disappears and the Google homepage is back, but no results I'm having to go into Google Images, type my request there and then click on the Web button.

GOOGLE YOU MADE ONE BAD BAD MISTAKE.  PLEASE RECTIFY IT ASAP, AND YES I KNOW I'M SHOUTING YOU MADE ME SHOUT WITH YOUR STUPID FIXING THINGS THAT AIN'T BROKE...WISE UP.
