|how do i switch back to the old version of google images?||TheAleks||7/25/10 11:20 PM|
i want the old image search back. image info below the pics, horizontal bar across the top after i click on an image. and i want it to stay.
the stupid "switch to classic" button doesnt work. it only stays as long as youre on that search page. as soon as you click an image or change pages it reverts to the new format.
and when you click an image, even after clicking the "switch to classic" button it still loads the new format image view page with the hovering image. i want my horizontal bar with a thumbnail image and some URL information about it, and the website below.
please google have one of your people answer me on this! i dont care about other angry peoples non working ideas like &sout=1, none of them fix all these issues!
AGAIN PLEASE SOMEONE FROM GOOGLE ANSWER ME!! or i will gather many people to picket in front of your hq buildings!!!!

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the image search. Click "Switch to basic version."
Unfortunately this does not remember the setting. You'll have to do this EVERY TIME you search.

I've finally been exposed to this new search feature and it blows, the lack of whitespace around the images makes them harder to differentiate and the zoom feature is really distracting (not to mention pointless, sure the thumbnail is a little bigger, but only a little). Additionally, because of it running off mouse rollover now I have to keep track of where I park my cursor when I'm trying to scan through pictures. Not cool.
Putting the "Switch to Basic Version" link at the bottom is pure idiocy. I was doing a search for "1930 New York" for an upcoming art project, do you know how many results you get from a search like that? Try scrolling to the bottom on that baby, I gave up and just used "find" after finding this thread that told me how to find the link in the first place.
Google should make changes like this elective on the part of the users. How about a "try this" link at the top? Then it's not a shock, and if I dig the new feature let me enable it through the Search Settings but don't cram changes down my throat when I'm looking for something.
Google is a tool, changing it is confusing when I go to use it. Confusion leads to frustration, frustration leads to animosity and animosity blinds me to any upsides.

@whoakhonga you obviously didnt read my post. i already said that doesnt work. please read my post before responding further.
@Mr. Analog. i fully agree. they shouldnt force new ideas on the users. what ever happened to "if it aint broke, dont fix it"? i mean come on, before the changes, everyone LOVED google. i have been an avid googler for at least 10 years. and now im considering switching to yahoo or bing, but its so hard to migrate to a new site. also, i miss all the info such as picture size and url being right below the image in the search results, its so much easier. now i cant even move the mouse across the page without a million pictures jumping out at me! arg! google has officially gone retarded

i had same problem with google image search ,but i solved it for my self this way :
i wrote sth like : urmia lake bardia hoseini which has a few results in google image search.then i switched the standard version to basic version from bottom of the page, then i bookmarked that page.my browser is google chrome, so the bookmark button appears under the homepage button.
every time instead of going to google image search i use that bookmark button.

The problem with using a bookmark or other link to the Basic version is that it doesn't work for links to Google Images, such as the one in the regular Google search.
This shouldn't be Rocket Science, Google, just make it a permanent option.

This works really well, since the new image search is SO HORRIBLE and the "switch to basic version" link is a joke, this is a good permanent fix. Copied this from another q/a post. :
A simple workaround for Firefox users:
1- In the URL bar type about:config
2- Search the setting named general.useragent.extra.firefox (its default value is Firefox/3.6.8 in my case).
3- Right-click => Modify.
4- Clear its value and click OK.
Basic version is back permanently!!!
It works for me but I don’t know if it has any side effects on rendering other sites. If so, in step 3 above click Reset to return back to default (and to the standard version as well :(

soninu came up with a pretty good suggestion to get around Google's lame feature. However it is not a solution I would recommend as it (among other things) disables your Facebook chat list (it removes the chat button)...
In fact it breaks each and every site/applet that relies on the user-agent string to serve data.
Header string with the default option:
HTTP_USER_AGENT:Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:188.8.131.52) Gecko/20100920 Fedora/3.6.10-1.fc13 Firefox/3.6.10
And here it is without:
HTTP_USER_AGENT:Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:184.108.40.206) Gecko/20100920 Fedora/3.6.10-1.fc13
Check for your self : http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
Google should definitely make the "Switch back to classic view" persistent, its not that hard to do with cookies... or at least let it be persistent for those of their users whom are actually logged in to their Google account.
The new style defeats the whole purpose of tabbed browsing, as we are not able to middle click on image thumbs to open the result in a new tab.. At least not with Linux/Firefox 3.6.x

this google images is a joke. The part i hate the most is the little display when you click an image before you go the actual website. Is this a cash saving method so you can avoid paying advert fees to that site if you do not go into the actual page ?

They still have no resolved this. It's been this way for a long time now, good luck getting the nazis to fix it.
I'm changing to bing or something, this is retarded and pathetic.
Google sucks, since they're nothing but a company now and not a god damned search engine....
|Re: how do i switch back to the old version of google images?||shadowedvalleys||2/18/11 4:55 PM|
Bah bing is just as retarded....
time to make a grease monkey....

Can't understand one thing Google is on the top of the business because they promised that their search engine is the fastest in the world and it was right. But now using these kind of lame features like version of Google Images they are ruining their image of fastest search engine. Coz they are not the fastest image search engine for now
|Re: how do i switch back to the old version of google images?||MAX GRANDE||8/17/11 6:40 PM|
There is a SIMPLE SOLUTION. Use a different search engine. No, not BingBong or Yahoooooo. Try the Russian search engine, Yandex. They are the 8th most popular s.e. in the world according to Wiki and they have been around since 1997. A legitimate outfit, and guess what? The GUI is like Google USED to be. Plus, the image search has some neat little tweaks, that Google does not. Plus, the image search gives results like the old Google "basic view" does.
One more advantage: the web search results are even better than Google's because they are clearly not as AD-DRIVEN as Google's. For example, if you search for "cat", Yandex gives you the Wikipedia link first (an obvious choice) while Google starts with Catapillar Tractor !!!
AND NO DATGUM "EVERYWHERE BAR" TO BE SEEN. Give Yandex a try. I don't sever relationships easily, but Google has become the opposite of their corporate motto: "Don't be evil"

Geeee Max G. thats a really clever, intelligent and helpful answer...
