Daughter Cyber Bullied via G+. Account deleted. Urgent need to remove cached search result jhchnc 1/18/13 5:39 PM
My daughter got cyber bullied.

Obviously, I'd rather not post an URL here, so as to avoid drawing attention.

Can I please be contacted by Google to help me with this?

I've gone through the phone call account recover process.

Despite the perp giving us the username and password, the recovery failed.

I have also tried the "removal tool".  They are getting back to me.

Seriously, you'd think that after multiple times reporting this, that Google could take action.

Can anybody please help me?

John Herr

Hello there Jhchnc,

First of all I am sorry that this happened to your daughter...as it must be quite traumatic.

From my understanding of your questiion you mention you deleted the G+ account..and you want to remove the cache page.  On this particular link: when you see it in a Google search results page, hover your arrow to the right of the link until you get over >>.  When you do, you will see an Instant Preview to the right.  Above that is the link title, the link itself (perhaps shortened) and "cached" that is if it has one.

The cache page is a snapshot of the website on a particular day in the past.  Is there a unique word on that page that has been removed from the current page?  If so that would qualify it for a cache removal.  If successful it would hide the cache until Google re-crawled the site...at which time a new cache would be made.  However this new cache would "not" contain the removed information.  That is your goal.

If your link meets this criteria, I would be willing to do a cache removal for you.  You could send the link to me "privately" by right clicking on "Post reply" then click on "Reply to author"  It may be easier to send the Google search results page, as then I could see exactly what you see.

Awaiting your reply,
Shannon

Note:  When you send the link be sure to mention your nickname so I know whom it is from.

Shannon,

Thanks, but two things:  first, the cache "Preview is not available".  second, the G+ has been deleted, and what we want/need is for the entire search result to go away, not just the cache preview.  The page is 404, and now I want to remove the search result.  Given that it's a G+ account, I'm concerned about why it's not falling out of search faster.

Also, I don't see where you are working at Google.

Thanks,
John

One more thing:  this result ONLY shows in google.  Yahoo and Bing are respecting the fact that the page is 404.

Google.  You need to help me on this way:  you have a system which is actually quite unfriendly to children.

Also, Google:  I have contacted my attorney.

Hi John

I've escalated this thread, and hopefully you should hear back from a Google employee shortly.

Cheers

Sasch,

I appreciate that very much.  Thank you.

Hey again John

Please bear in mind that it's the weekend, and that the guys may be a little slower than normal to respond. However, I would still anticipate a response at some stage today unless something very unusual happens.

Have you actually tried the content removal tool yet? If not, you need to start with the Web Search option.

Cheers

Sasch,

I'm a web engineer w/15 years of experience in web services.  I'm going to be thrilled if I can get a personal touch, and, beyond the issue of weekends am aware that Google services billions of people.  So, I really, really appreciate the escalation.

I tried the content removal tool immediately -- about 4-5 days ago now.  I have also gone through account recovery attempts and had a phone interview, but even with the usernames and passwords that were provided to me by the bully herself, I didn't pass that two-pronged approach.  My daughters situation is a bit trickier than a yes/no sort of approach can account for, in my opinion.

Thanks again, so much,
John

Hey again John

It would appear that the guys are either away or otherwise engaged at the moment. I'm sure, however, that they'll respond when they see this.

Given that time-scale involved here (seemingly approaching a week), I'm actually surprised that the result in question hasn't fallen from the search results yet. Google is normally far more on-the-ball than that, especially, as you've already stated, given that it's a G+ post/page.

Cheers

Sasch

Sasch,

Thanks.  I'm surprised, too!  But, it is still there.

Ok, I'll wait patiently for now -- it's a long weekened what with inauguration and MLK day.

Thanks,
John

Ah yes... I forgot about MLK Day, despite being in the States at the moment... That would account for people being away, I guess.
Re: Daughter Cyber Bullied via G+. Account deleted. Urgent need to remove cached search result Hello.... 1/21/13 4:55 PM
John, I could possibly tell you why it's not being removed but I would need the link to the page(s) or for privacy concerns you could use the google link shortening tool http://goo.gl/ here.

@ "Hello...."
Given that John got technical experience with HTTP, and thus can absolutely safely spot a 404, and assuming that John has already correctly used Google's page removal tool, then ... what exactly do you have in mind for speeding up an removal from plus.google.com?
Re: Daughter Cyber Bullied via G+. Account deleted. Urgent need to remove cached search result Sasch 1/21/13 6:37 PM
For my money, getting a response from a Google employee on this matter would be an infinitely better course of action than giving a link/name you've thus far been safeguarding to a completely anonymous forum user with absolutely zero record or credibility...

Just my $0.02...
Re: Daughter Cyber Bullied via G+. Account deleted. Urgent need to remove cached search result Hello.... 1/21/13 6:47 PM
I was going to see if the reason it's not being removed because the name is still somewhere on the page or URL, or if it's just because the Google Index Spider hasn't crawled the website yet. But what do I know, I'm just a " forum user with absolutely zero record or credibility..."  LOL.
Re: Daughter Cyber Bullied via G+. Account deleted. Urgent need to remove cached search result Sasch 1/21/13 6:56 PM
You left out 'anonymous'...

No public profile, no posting record... walks in here asking for information the OP has chosen to keep private... Which part of the aforementioned actually gives you any kind of credibility in anyone's eyes, especially in view of the many anonymous trolls/scamsters that frequent Google's help fora?
Re: Daughter Cyber Bullied via G+. Account deleted. Urgent need to remove cached search result Hello.... 1/21/13 7:08 PM
Oh, sorry I didn't post my resume and everything about myself on a Google forum LOL. I asked for it to see if I could tell him why it wasn't being removed, as I have been through a similar situation and I got it resolved. But then you got a little defensive, it's okay, you don't have to be frightened of me, Sasch. Don't trust me John, I'm some evil anonymous forum user with absolutely zero record or credibility because I didn't post my resume on a Google forum.  Hope you get it resolved.
Re: Daughter Cyber Bullied via G+. Account deleted. Urgent need to remove cached search result jhchnc 1/21/13 7:53 PM
Well, I am safeguarding the URL.  I haven't given it out at all.  And it's definitely a 404, and I have used page removal tool.

FWIW, the page is only indexed by Google.  Yahoo and Bing don't have it indexed.

I'm just sitting tight and seeing if anything gets picked up by a Google employee by tomorrow or Wedn.

Hi jhchnc, I'm sorry to hear this happened to your daughter. If I understand correctly, you already deleted the G+ page and the corresponding content, but you're still able to view a cached version of the content when you search? If that's the case, then Shannon12 and Sasch's advice to complete a cache removal request is the first and most effective course of action. I see that you did it about 6 days ago. Is that correct?

Normally that's not enough time to determine whether we need to take additional action. However, I will investigate this for you to see if we can get the result you want faster. It would greatly help if you could send me any information you can about the content you'd like to see removed (most importantly, if you can link me to the search results page that displays the content you want gone). To protect your privacy, please only reply to me when you send me this information (click on the arrow next to the "Reply" button in this forum, and select "Reply to author").

Thanks,
Kousha

@Kousha
I haven't done any testing on G+ responses, but ... if you could throw a message over to the relevant G+ team, telling them to make sure about always returning a 410 instead of a 404 for deleted stuff, then that'd be great.
(GoogleBot is meticulous about the difference between a 404 and a 410; and the 410 was designed & always intended for use with deletions.)

@John (jhchnc)
side-note: Yahoo is "Powered by Bing"; results are drawn from same index.
And when is comes to crawling & indexing content found on Google's sites, then Bing got massive gaping holes.
- Bing probably never had it indexed ;-)

Hi Kousha,

I think I did that correctly, but I can't be sure.  I don't see where I can view the "Reply to author" posts that I've sent.  Please let me know if you got the private message I sent, and if there is any other information you need to know.

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

You did it correctly -- I will follow up with you offline.
Re: Daughter Cyber Bullied via G+. Account deleted. Urgent need to remove cached search result jhchnc 1/24/13 10:17 AM
Hey Kousha,

I'm just following up because I hadn't heard anything yet.

Do you know the status of my request?  The search terms are still showing the deleted page in results.

Thanks,
John

John, thanks for following up about this. I'm still working on it with members of the G+ team. Hopefully I can reach an answer soon. Thanks for you patience.
Re: Daughter Cyber Bullied via G+. Account deleted. Urgent need to remove cached search result Kousha N. 1/24/13 1:23 PM
Hi John,

We have looked into the matter and can confirm that the account no longer appears in results.  While account deletion is immediate, profile name and photo may appear in search until the change hits our index.

Take care,
Kousha
