|Google is Changing My Page Titles in the SERPS and Getting it Wrong||Taylor Toussaint||9/13/11 11:38 AM|
I have read the FAQs and checked for similar issues: YES
My site's URL (web address) is: hypnosiscenter.com
Description (including timeline of any changes made):
I found a query that changes my Title in the serp and its not good. Search for "cal banyan reviews" without the quotes.
The results for hypnosiscenter.com are:
Banyan Hypnosis Center Logo
www.hypnosiscenter.com/ - Cached
Click the button on the left to hear an introductory message from Cal Banyan. Thank you for stopping by our website. Cal Banyan Hypnotherapist. Calvin Banyan ...
That that is not a very helpful Title and Description. When you go to hypnosiscenter.com you will see a better title and description. Why is Google changing it? Do they feel that our titles and descriptions are not helpful enough?
So I took it a step further and searched for "site:hypnosiscenter.com logo" again, without the quotes. And it looks like Google is appending "Banyan Hypnosis Center Logo" to the title in the results.
Now I know that Google reserves the right to alter title and descriptions based on the search term to return results that are best for the user. But to me, this looks like a bug in this experiment that Google is conducting.
Any suggestions for me, or are you just going to pass it to the engineers?

spammy title and description

<meta name="description" content="Hypnosis Training & Hypnotherapy Certification & Services at the Famous Banyan Hypnosis Center, a California State Registered School of Hypnosis. I thought about that but when I search for other terms like "hypnosis training" and "hypnosis certification", my Titles and Descriptions are not changed.
Wouldnt they be changed there too if Google thought of them as spammy?
Thanks for the reply by the way...

You might want to check out Google SEO Starter guide for your site. Have you ever read it?

It is a strange occurance indeed.
Have a look at the cache of your home page. ( Text only version )
You'll see at the top of the page - your ALT text ( logo ) is appearing almost like a heading.
If this is the only page ( home ) where this is occuring, it could be Google had a problem crawling the page ?
Maybe a Google Employee will find this thread, and provide the kind of insight only they can provide.

Thank you Mike, I missed the ALT tag on the image. It looks like I will have to change that.
It is strange that Google didn't use the TITLE tag for that image.
